I used Stedman's when working in Meditech, but I would type in Word and
copy to Meditech.
Meditech/Word
I still use Word to type in and then use ShortHand to drop in Meditech.
Meditech and MS Word
I have recently begun working for a company and they use Meditech as their platform. I can officially announce I HATE that platform! I have read in the past that one can do the transcription in Word and then place the document in Meditech. Is that possible or perhaps I misunderstood? I am so accustomed to using the Word commands that it is difficult and cumbersome to retrain myself to use the command keys in Meditech! I am sure in time I will get used to it, but if there is a better way and someone out there knows how to do the above, please share!
MEDITECH AND WORD
Does any one out there currently use Meditech.  Our facility has just converted to Meditech but are able to use Word 2007.  I work off site and am having formatting issues.  We type in Arial 12 pt. but is wanting to convert to Calibri 11 pt. when saved.  Just curious if anyone else out there has had this experience
Meditech word expanders

I know that ShortHand and Abbreviate both work with Meditech. There may be others as well. Hope this helps.

Can you cut and paste from Word to Meditech?
Can someone tell me if I can type a report in word and use the bold function, then cut and paste it into Meditech and still have the bold sections bolded (blue)? Also, will lines wrap around correctly when using the tab key.
Meditech word expander
PCSHORTHAND is the only one I have found to work with Meditech; www.pcshorthand.com
Word/text expanders for Meditech
I would apprecaiate knowing word/text Expanders work in Meditech?  Thank you.
Export from Meditech to Word and back again?
Someone here once tried to explain how to have Meditech export or open a word file so you can type the report in word and then import it back into Meditech.  Something about Export?  Does anyone know how to do this and, if so, would you please break it down step by step as I've only been using Meditech for 3 to 4 months.  Thanks in advance!
you can copy and paste from word to meditech...
It is alt V instead of ctrl V. It is VERY slow doing it that way though.
I believe Olympus is a dictation system, not a program such as Word or Meditech - sounds to me like

Cumbersome is a good word here to describe Meditech. The designer obviously doesn't type.

working in Word..need to know..sm
Is there a way to bold without using the mouse to click on bold every time? (function keys?) Thanks
If you are working in Word...

Hello

I am not sure if you are the one who posted this on the equipment board or not, but I will repeat my reply to a similar question on that board......I use the AutoCorrect feature in Microsoft Word.  You have to build your own entries, but once you have done that, it is great.  I have a doctor who says a lot of the same phrases over and over.  For instance, he says, "Thought processes are goal directed."  I type in "tp" and it types out that entire sentence.  If you use Word as your word processor, than this feature is free!  The other way I use it, is for expanding words, such as depression...depn... I use the first 3 letters of the word and the last letter.  This usually works pretty well.  One more... preoccupied..'pred.'  If you have any further questions, please let me know.  I spent over $100 on an expander, and I like AutoCorrect better.

If you are working in Word,
the menu across the top starts with File, then Edit, then View . . . this is all without clicking on anything.
If working in MS Word, go to (sm)
Tools and scroll down to Auto Correct.  If the first option given has a check mark next to it, uncheck it.  This should correct it.  If not, please get back to me for an alternate method. Good Luck.
You are working for less than $0.01 per word!

Even at $0.01 per word, that's low for medical transcription!

To make a comparison with line rate, open a couple of your documents up, check the character count with spaces and the word count. Do the math for both, using a low number like $0.08/line. I think you'll see that you are not being paid well and hope you will either ask for that raise or find a better paying job. With 5 years experience, you should be making at least $0.08/line.

if you are working in Word you can....
click format on the toolbar, then click chane case which will give you options. First highlight all text you want changed.
If you are working in Word, sm
try to adjust your Grammar check, so it will pick up on those little mistakes you are making.

I have mine set, so I don't miss anything, including commas, sentence structure, etc.

If you are not working in Word, than just try to adjust your ear and slow down just a tad. If you proof while transcribing, you will probably catch the small things.

Good luck to you, keep your chin up, and smile!!
Thank you! When I started working in WORD ...sm
2 years ago I asked the same question and got no answer. My glasses need to be changed every 6 months since using WORD (OK...I'm over 55). thanks for the great advice!
Will soon be working in Word for the first time sm

and I was going to use Shortcut, but do I need to?  Would the auto-correct feature of Word work just the same, or is there an advantage to using Shortcut?  I am an old PRD+ user, and am now using Bayscribe, which uses an Expander similar to PRD, so now am having to evaluate options.

Thanks for your input.

Well, if you're working in Word
you can use that Word Count and do the math yourself, or there is Abacus.  I don't know of any free line counting programs.  I work in Word and just use the tools in word to count lines.  You highlight the document and count it that way through the tools menu.
Was told working directly in MS Word...sm
when I asked what the platform was, that's what she said.

Now I see why I have to have unlimited long distance, and a second phone line!
I assume you're working in Word?
Did you record the Find & Replace macro? You'd get more help if you posted your macro code so we can see where the glitch might be.
It depends on your version of Word. Which one are you working in
and which version of Windows? Later versions no longer include the WP5.1 filter but you can use the old one if you still have old installation CDs. You can also download the filter from the link below.
What is the version of word for windows that works best for you? Still working off 2000.

If working in Word, autotext/correct can be used for free, but (smsg)
if you need a separate expander, then I recommend Shorthand.  I think their cost is reasonable, and it is user friendly.  I've used it for years, and it has worked in numerous different platforms, or if not directly compatible, I could convert my list either way fairly easily.  It, too, has a free demo period for 30 days.  Aside from Word's own autotext/correct function which is limited in its compatibility to a degree, you aren't going to find a good free one.
Working in Word, and suddenly my screen splits into two pages, and I can't reverse it. HELP!
Does anyone know what I've done and what I can do to get it back to just one window? It is Word 2003 on a XP platform, if that helps any. Thanks.

You get more working the evening or night shifts and working w/o benefits. And producing like a mad

Ditto....granted I am not working much these days, but am currently trying out a new way of working
when I do work which seems to be helping.  I am timing myself and keeping a log of how long it takes to to type however many minutes.  I am averaging anywhere from 13-18 minutes of dictation an hour now doing this.  Granted the time fluctuates between who I am typing, and if I have to look up names, addresses, etc., just depends on the division I am doing at the time.  But work that used to take me 3 hours to do is now taking me under 2 hours, I am also trying to put in more macros as I go along, which slows me down initially but pays off in the long run of course.  I was working "all the time" before but took forever to get done since I was not applying myself. This new "attitude" has helped me a lot.  My goal, in the Fall, is to do 90 minutes a day consistently at 6 hours, and then maybe get up to 120 minutes a day at 8 hours, still while having at least half of the day free (do 60 minutes at night, and the other 60 by Noon).  Thereby doing 1200-1400 lines a day.  I have never really buckled down and done more than 8000 lines per pay period, so it will be a nice change.  Maybe you can do something like that and have a specific knock off time as was suggested below.
Working holidays? Out shopping in stores where someone IS working

that holiday you refuse to work?  Grocery stores, food joints & seems any store is open on holidays and you expect them to be fully staffed, so why shouldn't we?

Yes, I took off for the first time on Christmas day, in 18 years and it was great, but I worked Christmas eve and this whole past weekend.

Someone has to do it!

working IN A HOSPITAL is different than working at home.
Someone can steal you identity from the internet if they want to. Why would you go to the time and trouble to jeopardize a job that requires some level of skill to steal someone's identity or medical records? You could get a job as a retail clerk and get info easier than going through the testing required to become an MT.
Somehow working at home translates into not really working
My in-laws are the worst. Whenever they plan something last minute and my husband says that I had to work, they say, "but she works at home!". When I one time mentioned I had a "schedule" and basically punch a clock and work full time, I don't think they believed me. They will sometimes call mid-day during the week if they are in the area to see if I want to go for lunch, etc! The best is, my husband doesn't make all that much money, so where is it coming from, the money fairy? I am ready to strangle someone! So I know how you feel and I'm sorry it upset you. You are not alone.
Meditech

Has anyone ever used a word Expander with Meditech? I understand that there are several different versions of this program and we use it for Radiology. We have V. 3.25.  I was specifically thinking about ShortKeys?  Any input would be appreciated.

Meditech
Has anyone ever used Meditech?  Is it user-friendly?  Fast?  Thanks for any info you can give me.
MediTech
No to all of the above questions.
Meditech

Hello ladies.  Can any of you give me referral for the name of a good medical transcription service company to work for?  I've been with Spheris for almost 3 years and am looking.  I've been requesting to change from an intimidating and threatening supervisor for months, and it hasn't happened.  MANY PEOPLE are leaving Spheris.  I'm just wondering -- can anyone give me the name of a NICE COMPANY to work for??

Thank you very much.  Have a nice day.

Meditech
User-friendly? LOL. Shorthand helps.
Meditech?!))!!**
I hate it!  Been working through Meditech. A huge hospital account and it's constantly going slow, booting you offline. And, it's been like this for years. They are losing a load of MT's because of it. It's okay for the hospital users, labs, docs, etc. NOT for transcriptionists. You need a dedicated line, not a system that serves a metropolis!
Does anyone use Meditech here?

I work for a hospital and I am forced to use Meditech.  There is nothing to help a Transcriptionist except for autocorrect.  The F11 key is diabled as well as macros.  Any one else experience this problem, and how did you get around it.

Going crazy without my tools.  I can't stand not being able to F11 to my next stop, let alone make templates, etc.  Autocorrect on this computer is terrible as well.  It will only take words in a line, not a paragraph, for example.  Sheesh..  Any advice???

Meditech
Yes - Have your supervisor get Smartype, which works well with Meditech in Word program or Abbreviate, which is cheaper. I have worked at a local hospital with same problem and they would not put Smartype on, would do nothing to help at all. Good luck, hope you get somewhere, it is like typing with one hand behind your back isn't it? Pain in the neck and takes so much of your time.
meditech
Meditech does not count lines.  It only counts black characters, no spaces.
Meditech
I would charge by the line - at least 12-14 cents per line (if you are the owner of the account)or charge 3.00 per report - 4.00 for specials. I have found with Meditech that this is about the only way to make any money. I had an account like this and found that radiology by the line if there are a lot of specials is the way to go - longer reports - more lines, especially if they use a lot of normals or negatives as some call them. hope this helps - you are probably being way underpaid if you are working on Meditech.
Meditech - What's it like to use?

Companies that have it always seem to want people who are already trained on it.  Is it hard to learn if you have learned many different softwares?

Meditech
I have used the oldest version of Meditech, without a spellchecker and the newest versions with Word and not in Word. Even when I used the older version, I made excellent money. You can use ShortHand and with the old version, I used abbreviate. Of course when I used the old version for 8 years, made 10 cents per line and even the newer versions made 10 cents a line in radiology for all. The Cerner will slow it down, but not all the time. It is an old system, but you can make good money using Meditech. I use RadNet now which I love. Meditech is fairly easy to learn and your line count you get out of your main menu for Transcription Statistics, but not until the next day, that is the only bad thing about it. Good luck. It is not the worse platform. I have used 3 different Meditech programs, two of them old and one the newer one.
New Meditech is not like it used to be
Yes, you do need broadband access and internet.  So, good thing u've got DSL.  The new version is a whole lot better than the dial-up version - very user friendly.  Congrats on the new job!
meditech
I have a manual here but no fax machine - is there something in particular I can look up for you?

Meditech
I've used Meditech and it is a very simple, user friendly program. Only problem I had with it was that there were no expansions.
Meditech lag
I also found Meditech to cause a huge problem with lag and it drove me crazy.  The Meditech in Word is better.  Have you updated your internet explorer to the new version 7?  If so, that may be the problem as I heard it does not work well with some of the medical software for companies, so I have not upgraded mine.  There is a web site www.worldstart.com, and they have a message board there, lots of people on the boards and maybe someone can answer your question about the lag time and what may cause it.  I stopped using Norton antivirus and have used AVG free as the Norton missed 200 viruses on my computer a couple of years ago.  What I used to do years ago is transcribe in Abbreviate and cut and paste into Meditech and that was faster.  Maybe you do need to uninstall your program and reinstall, that may help.  Good luck.  I know how frustrating this is.
