Our hospital rads went to VR
using Dictaphone Powerscribe and in 30 days were doing their own transcription with NO MT EDITING. Even the ones that didn't want to do it in the first place, even the Pakistani, and even Ol' Motormouth.

Of course when doing rads they can get pretty technical with the terminology, especially if you do nuke rads. But once you get used to the terms, you'll find that the dictators say just about the same exact thing every time (unless there's an abnormality of course) and you can make shortcuts/macros and really save tons of time, especially on the longer ones (spine series, etc).
I didn't think it was too hard at all to learn. If you enjoy a challenge and make sure you review your feedback then it should be a snap.

I hate leaving blanks but when it comes to productivity in-house or even at home, in order to make the $$ and make your quote so your not written up you have to leave the blanks. I don't feel as though I do as good a job, but at least I haven't been written up and put on probation. The only down side is just dealing with it within yourself. So I can totally relate.
Look at the ads out there. 8 cpl is just about it. It's a struggle to get 9 cpl from the well

I am above $50K but it is much more of a struggle (sm)
than it used to be. I work way harder for that than I used to several years ago.

You're right - it IS all a big power struggle. sm
But others in this country who've gotten the short end of the stick have made themselves heard on The Hill. Look at all the illegal aliens, who now call themselves "Immigrants", and fight for "Immigrant Rights". They've almost got themselves driver's licenses and HMO coverage in my state.
Look at Cesar Chavez, who got migrant farm workers better pay & working conditions. Before he came along, that was certainly an "invisible" job.
And look at this country's huge media interest in sweatshop conditions in other countries. What about sweatshop conditions in our OWN country? AND Indian MTs, for that matter... have you ever seen the photos of them - sitting shoulder to shoulder, with the boss walking around all day looking over their shoulders? (In a pic I saw once, it looked like the guy should've had a whip and a chair....) I wonder how often they get to take breaks, and what happens to them when they get carpal tunnel. Bet they don't have any bennies. And because MTSOs in India can get away with that, as well as the low pay, because in India ANY job is a good one, then the same conditions have been seeping into the U.S. for years. You're right about being mindful of who we vote into office. I think this next election is going to be a major turning point in the direction of our country, as well as the living standards of its people, and hopefully the right decision will be made and there will be a chance of turning things around. It can't all be done at once, but even if it's one step at a time, if it's in the right direction, maybe this profession can be saved, along with this country's middle class. The middle class is the one that has always carried this country economically, and if it disappears, then heavens to Betsy - the Rich and Big Business might actually have to pay their fair share of the taxes. THAT would sure be a first, wouldn't it?
I struggle to get one up. No kids living at home so
I no longer decorate. There's no fun in it anymore. Anyway, DH always wants a tree that hits the ceiling...we have 12 foot ceilings... and the last tree we put up took up 3/4 of my 16 x 24 living room because it was almost as wide as it was tall. After the holidays, it took him another 1/12 months to get it out of here. It looked quite pathetic by then.
It used to take me 4 weeks to decorate the house, yard, etc., but no more. I kind of like it this way. No pine needles to clean up into July. No arguing on taking the tree down and out. No fighting with others over that one perfect tree at the tree farm.
Our outside lights are up all year and I turn them on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. That's it. DH misses the decorating, but I told him he knows where I keep all the stuff and he can do it if he wants, just don't ask me to put the stuff away. If he wants to decorate he puts it up, he takes it down. Works every year.
Yes, it's hard for me, too. It's such a struggle to find money
to buy gifts for people. I always try to give something I know they collect or a gift certificate to a restaurant or book store. In return, I've gotten Fingerhut freebies, an employee baseball cap, and clearance bath stuff in nasty fragrances like Freesia with the tag left on. I don't see the point in it. I wish our families would agree to stop giving gifts to adults. I seem to be the only one that feels this way. Then again, that's not fair because I've got the most kids.

I struggle every day with whether or not I can take another take of sitting here..I feel socially is
I've gone back and forth so many times. When I'm home, I cant wait to get back to a job outside the house, and when I do that, I want to be back home. I've done it about 3 times in the past 2 years. Some days I just sit here and stare at the computer wondering how much longer I can do this before I lose my mind. I immediately get another job outside of the home but ended up hating it every minute and come back home. I've just come to the conclusion that I'm tired and plain burned out. I really just want to do something different..like travel and enjoy life...this working stuff is for the birds. I think it makes it harder on me too that my husband is "retired" so he does what he wants when he wants to and I just work, work, and work with no quality of life. I told him I want to be him in another life LOL..Anyway, your not alone. Every since I have been doing this at-home stuff, I've ended up with a depression problem and I wonder how much comes from not being able to separate work from home and social isolation. Well back to work..

besides, volunteering in your community is a GOOD THING. You can volunteer, pay for the box and give to a family who is in need. Many, many people did that. An older person who is on a fixed income and who can't get food stamps would likely welcome a box on a monthly basis. This time of year, all the food banks around the country are in need because it is not a holiday, so few give and the need is greater every month. It doesn't have to be for your family.

Working full time at home with small children is hard but part time works great
is almost impossible. You will either have to work when your spouse is home or for only a few hours during the day and then more when they are asleep. I work part time at home and my kids (2&5 now) have done very, very well. They are great kids, very well behaved, don't get into much. I stop working to check on them/give them some attention every hour or so while I work (5 hours each afternoon or so) and they get all my attention in the morning and at night. It has worked out beautifully for us.

full-time in office/ part-time at home
I currently work full-time in a physician's office and have started part-time online. My hope is to eventually go full-time online; however that will be done the road for a single mom with a son in college. My suggestion would be try to type part-time for a MTSO and see how that goes i.e work and money with a decision down the road for ultimately being home all the time. A guaranteed paycheck is always a necessity for me. Hope this helps.

I work a full time and a part time, but not sure about 2 full-time...
My hubbie is disabled and I am the only one in my family working also, so I fully understand. You will not have a day off at all working 2 full-time as that is going to be the only way you will get in all your hours. I work one job in the mornings from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the other from 5 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and do have off one day a week, but if I had to get in the extra 15 hours to make the other job full-time I am not sure how I would do that other than lose my only day off. Also, make sure you have your account specifics in front of you at all times because you will get yourself confused as to who is what and having notes will help in that area. Good luck to you, as it is possible, but forget about your house being clean, having any social life, etc. Feel free to email me personally if you just need someone to talk to, as I have been where you are and still am.

I was just stating how I took her post and the fact that I am worried about how my son will react since he is already getting quite upset. But, yes, any parent SHOULD be able to admit that they need a break from time to time...we're only human too! :)

and most do this during the wee hours of the morning when MOST people are sleeping and not using the internet. They need to upgrade their services and virus protection just like the home users. This is probably what occurred.
I recently requested time off for the first time...
(3 days off) and gave 2 weeks notice but was asked by my boss to give more notice next time. I thought 2 weeks was decent, but next time I will give at least 30 days.

It's crazy how these nationals or even smaller MTSOs think that we should be working set hours as an IC or even set lines as an IC. I totally stay away from those companies. Also, stay away from the ones that keep you on messenger (like Advanced in Oregon) or require you be logged in their platform, etc. or require a time clock as an IC. This is against the law. They cannot clock you and expect you to work certain hours under an IC status. They are getting away with it though, time and time again. It's a shame what we MTs put up with in this profession for pennies!!!

All I use is autocorrect and it takes me 60 to 70 minutes to do a 30 minute tape of straight chart notes and about 475 to 550 lines on my internal medicine account. On my surgeons with a lot of consults/letters it can take me 90 minutes but I get over 1000 lines. If it were to take me 4:1 I think I would quit.

I never had a problem with anybody being nasty to me about it, but I rarely request time off. When I do need time off, I just send in an email and state I won't be working my shift today. period. I don't phrase it as a question, I make a statement. I think that is a major benefit to being an SE.

It seems worse when I get to the bottom of the report-- sometimes I can almost type a whole sentence and it "hangs up" on the screen and prints out all at once. Bring back MedRite-- no problems with it-- sigh!
