I am thinking of starting a neighborhood watch in my area but was wondering if people really want to get involved.  I know this would depend on my neighbors, but for the most part do people care?  The main problem I am having with my neighborhood is that down the street there is a section of what would be called *low income rental units* which are actually just one bedroom tiny houses, and the people who rent there just do not care about the neighborhood, the noise level, the litter, so on. 

The main problem I am having is noise.... It comes from about three car stereos and there is really no way to pinpoint it unless you physically sit at the end of the street and get the make and license # of the car.  The noise ends about 3:00 a.m. and starts up again about 7:00 a.m.  I have phoned the police several times regarding this, but what can they do really if they don't know what car it is coming from?  They said they can drive by the block a few extra times a night, but really that has done no good.  I have had to start taking sleeping pills and wearing ear plugs to even get some sleep lately, but the noise is still so loud it sounds like thunder, and I cannot believe somebody who lives right next to that noise does not call it in to the police.  That is why I question whether people actually want to get involved.  I can only call the police so many times myself before they think I am crazy and am hearing things. 

As for the littering, it is not just bottles and cans, it is pieces of furniture that nobody wants anymore and they push it out to the curb hoping it will magically disappear.  It doesn't disappear, and I'm getting embarassed to have any friends over to my house because they have to pass that area before reaching my end of the street. 

As for starting the neighborhood watch, would I just basically go door to door and see what kind of response I would get?  Has anybody else had a noise problem like this, and does it ever get better if people complain, or does that just make it worse?  Thanks for any input.  I'm just so tired and grouchy lately, I hate to even be at home anymore and this is making me depressed. 

I was NOT talking to a telemarketer at SBC.  I originally talked to one (I assume) when I called, but when I explained what I was using it for, I talked with his supervisor.  As long as I am accessing voice files and NOT using it for faxing, accessing the internet, or other "computer to computer" things, it is fine.  I have not had any hassle, except for once, and then when I called and talked to them and changed to a business line, I was fine.

I find it so hard to produce a good line count, and I'm assuming that it's because of not getting paid for spaces.  Can you give me an idea of the difference in pay with paid spaces vs. nonpaid spaces.  I'm very frustrated, and am also looking for another job.  Do you think they get paid for spaces from the hospitals?

I did about two years ago, two years after I got divorced with a lot of debt.  At first I tried to settle the debts at 25-40%, and supposedly would have 3 years to do so, but then got sued anyway and had two lawsuits, so I was back to where I started.  Spoke to a lawyer about bankruptcy and he said go for it and encouraged me to do it myself.  Of course I didn't own anything except for a car that was worth about $200.00, so it was easy.  It was the last thing I thought I'd ever do, but it flew through without a hitch and four months from the time I filed it was over.  Yes, my credit has been stinky, but it's coming back.  Wish I would have filed sooner.

Don't know about your situation, but a lot of lawyers will offer a free consultation so you could see if it would be worth it for you.

this lady in California won the lottery.  She divorced her husband and didn't tell him about the lottery.  He thought she was being very generous because she let them have their house and most everything else.  Well, he started getting all this mail for lottery winners and put 2 and 2 together and took her to court.  The judge was very hard on her for lying and made her give everything to the husband.   Live and learn.

I worked for Golden Isle and they had the wrong state that I lived in.  They submitted a revised form AFTER I filed my taxes.  They had the state they were located and NOT where I lived.  What a mess. 

I used Tax Cut and put down document preparation or something similiar every year and never had a problem.   

Paul Harvey.  Graduates of the Naval Academy received diplomas with "Navel" Academy on them and they all had to be reprinted.  You would think with something like that they would have someone proof and reproof before it went to final printing, and then proof again after printing.  

Along with spelling errors that drive me nuts, bad grammar makes me cringe.  When I hear someone say "I seen" it is like fingernails on the blackboard.

There wasn't any high pressure sales.  I basically called them and asked could I come in a check it out and they give you like a week trial or two weeks (my memory is sooo bad!).  Then if you decide to become a member, you fill out the paperwork and they weigh and measure you (fun, fun) and file it all away.  And then periodically they will ask if you want to be weighed and measured to see how much you've lost.

They are really encouraging there (at mine anyway).  They gave way prizes for different things like if you came a certain amount of times in like three months, you got a T-shirt.  And then there are prizes for when you lose 10, 20, etc pounds.  And at mine everyone had a little paper doll that started out at 0 and when you lost weight you moved your little paper doll around on the wall.  It was kind of fun.

Well, I've just convinced myself! 

as an IC at the local hospital and at first, didn't make much money, but as I got more familiar with the dictators, I could do 150 minutes in 6 1/2 hours. That was a good deal. I left because:

1. I got bored.

2. I worked 7 days a week plus all the holidays.

3. I thought the grass was greener elsewhere. I needed bennies and the hospital, even though my work was good, wouldn't hire me as an employee because then they would lose #2.

I started in a small hospital in the Midwest and spent 6 years there, then moved to the West Coast.  When I started, we had two reference books, Dorland's and the Surgeon's Syllabus (a red much used book).  We were on Royal typewriters, four carbon copies, all colored with different color white-out for each copy.  Our dictation came in on wax records with the stats at the switchboard station.  They would call us when one came in and we would walk down and get it.  They were on lilac wax and the others were on a salmon color.  We had little record players at our desk and we would transcribe the wax records, then put them in a press to take out the grooves and use them over and over.  I loved working there.   We then graduated to the Norelco reel-to-reel, and then to the Dictaphone plastic belts, then the magnetic belts, and then the MT/ST, then the Mag-Card, and finally to the computer, then to the Lanier pop-up tape system, then to the Sony Network, and then to digital voice.  It's been a long joury and I was with one employer for over two decades before being sold to MQ. I had the best boss in the world, generous to a fault, but then MQ came along and offshoring and the MT business went down, down, down. I make half of what I used to and I work twice as hard. Benefits are hard to come by and there is no security.  I long for the old days.

Switched to working for services from home for a while and now I work for the same hospital I started out at, but I work from home now.  So I guess you can say I've come full circle and now I'm back where I started.  I much prefer being an employee of a hospital versus an IC or employee of an MTSO.

It may be that your user profile in EXText is not set up to allow you to add normals.  I've found with services they don't give their MTs a whole lot of freedom with their software.   

and with a really good incentive plan.  I live in the Kansas City area.  $10 seems like a low starting point even with only two years experience which is the usual benchmark for hospital MT jobs. 

It's been my experience that the low end of the pay scale for hospital employed MTs was around $12 an hour.  Also, it's been my experience that the pay offered is usually based on years of experience and how well you perform on the transcription test.

I would say if their pay is that low, they should at least be making it up with incentive and it doesn't sound like they are.
