But, but, but ... they always sound like Mickey or Minnie Mouse to me!
... at least on the speed I play them. :o>
Tired of being an MT - Made a mistake.
I have been transcribing over 20 years. All different kinds of specialties. I've had good jobs and bad jobs. Jobs I'm sorry I quit. Anyway, my son works at a gas station that has freshly baked goods and had a job opening for doing the baking there. In a moment of acute hate for my job I jumped at grabbing that one. Now I'm sorry I accepted the job, it involves standing for 8 hours, the pay is about the same as what I'm making now (that's why I want out of MT), but I can't stand for 8 hours a day. I haven't given notice yet to my MT job and I don't want to have this shed a bad light on my son at his job. I just don't think I could be on my feet 8 hours a day. Now I am in a mess. How can I not take the job and not have this reflect on him?
As a side note. I think I don't make enough money as an MT because I spend all my time looking for another job while I'm working, or supposed to be working. HELP!
Wondering
put your mouse on the bar, hold down the left side of your mouse and move it back to the bottom, let
hope this works
applying at wal-mart..or mickey D's
With all the uncertainty, the other day I was in the customer service dept of Wal-Mart and there was a place to sit and fill out an application and I thought for a second or two, maybe I should apply.I didnt but the way transcription is going, I envision myself working at Wal-Mart or McDonalds soon..
Go to Mickey D's where you belong before you kill someone. nm

I get tired of daily grind. I get tired of having
horrible dictation/dictators and not able to produce lines, which directly affects my paycheck. I don't mind doing the difficult stuff, and I pretty good at it, but it is stressful and I find it very hard to budget when you never know what your paycheck is going to be. I hate being tied to having earphones on all day. I have children at home (I homeschool and don't have toddlers running around) and my DH works third shift so he is home during the day. I try to work around all this, but can't always. If I had a "desk" job I could be part of conversations at least, but having to have the earphones on you can't do that. I get tired of being sedentary, my feet swell, my shoulders are tired, my elbows hurt, etc.
I stick with it because of my children, and also because I like the flexibility. I don't have to be up at 5:30 to get the kids up and ready for school, I don't have to fight traffic to get to work at 8:00. It is a trade-off. Sounds like you just need a break.
It wouldn't load with my Office. Somehow it wouldn't "read" my 2003 Basic, although sm
technical couldn't find anything wrong with my software. They really tried hard. I see so many people that like Escription, I'm sorry not to be able to use it. Hopefully I can get Office Pro on my next machine, and maybe use it then. I could upgrade, but I'm still not sure it would work.

What might WPW stand for? All he says is 35-year-old female with a history of WPW.
TIA!
What is the abbreviation for...
square centimeters, or does it just get typed out?
TIA
abbreviation q
Yes, but I believe the abbreviation "q" must be changed to "every". The use of q can be confused for a U or a 0.
RE: Abbreviation
I got into this with someone the other day. I was told Joint Commission has a Do Not Use List and this is on it. You put by mouth.
MT is abbreviation for Montana

What is the best abbreviation expander??
I normally use autocorrect, but it is very slow lately, and I think I have about reached my capacity. I am looking for a good Expander that I will be able to convert my autocorrect to. Thanks in advance for your opinions!!

Abbreviation programs
Hi - What type of abbreviation program is good? I used to have Abbreviate, but no longer have it. Is Foxfire a good program? Does anyone just use their Word autocorrect strictly? If you use Word autocorrect - do you know how to copy it and put it on another computer?
Thanks for any help!!
PO is not a dangerous abbreviation (see msg)
Go to this website:

IV is not a dangerous abbreviation.
For Pitocin it is WAS given.

Portability of abbreviation lists
Your question raises the portability of abbreviation lists when you use different trascription platforms.
Each platform offers a utility where you can create your list of abbreviations, but you don't want to start over and over each time you change platforms. The solution to this problem is that EITHER these platforms provide you with another utility that lets you convert your list to their format OR you invest in an Expander software like ShortHand or Instant Text that let you use your list practically on all platforms. With Instant Text you can import your AutoCorrect with a few clicks and then you can use it with EMDAT or any other platform. Your time is worth money. You may want to evaluate how much it is worth by calculating how much time it takes to redo your list.
Is p.o. considered dangerous abbreviation?

Thanks! I have the dangerous abbreviation list
I was just afraid I was missing something buried in the book somewhere. I just didn't want to be making a mistake. Thanks again.
Use a semicolon prefix before your yo abbreviation, then you can
type 34;yo to get 34-year-old. There are lots of prefixes you can use--see SH's help file. BTW, this also works in autocorrect.
Wouldn't that mean that you simply wouldn't have to print out everything?
cc is on the dangerous abbreviation list and should be converted to ml.

I would never begin a sentence with an abbreviation, for one thing. nm

SM for a really awesome abbreviation website I have in my favorites.
You can look up expansions for abbreviations. It also lists normal lab values, symbols and numbers definitions for the deciphering the ShortHand that nurses and other clinical personnel use on the chart. It even has the JCAHO dangerous abbreviations list. It just has a lot of little neat functions that I've found helpful. Here it is:
http://www.medabbrev.com/main.cfm
Here's a link to that dangerous abbreviation list
This is the site the BOS recommends visiting, so I did. It is a long list of stuff fer sure! Here's the link...just copy and paste it into browser.

Hope it helps!
When I use my CAPS LOCK only the first letter of my abbreviation is capitalized..sm
and not any other. The only way I can get my entire abbreviation to be in capitals is by holding down my Shift key. I thought maybe I have something set up incorrectly in Preferences, etc. but can find nothing that would be of help. Do you have any other suggestions?
Can anyone suggest a good, up to date abbreviation book? Thanks nm

The Joint Commission's Dangerous Abbreviation List... SM
applies to written entries on a patient's chart, i.e. nurses' notes, doctor's orders, etc. For some insane reason, someone somewhere decided to apply it to transcription as well which is just silly. I work for a facility that has decided not to force transcription to strictly adhere to the dangerous abbreviation list and Joint Commission has not counted it against them in the last three audits.
I will say most MTs where I work do not use qhs, qac or qd. We expand those out because WE (the transcription department) decided that we should for clarification purposes.
My dangerous abbreviation sheet doesn't list...sm
q. as a dangerous abbreviation. It lists q.d. and q.o.d. and q.n. but not just q. by itself. ?
Keyboard and mouse. Is there such a thing as a keyboard that has a mouse on the actual keyboard?

Some rules I follow..for #6, I think the first time an abbreviation is used, you expand and paren th
but no abbreviations in diagnosis at all.
It was my first mistake ever...
and I'm sure you've NEVER made a typo in your entire life. You are my idol. Oh, yes. Uh huh.
Not really NM above. Mistake.

Big mistake for me
I became an MT after my surgery because I can no longer drive at night and can no longer work in a building due to severe dry eye after the procedure. I used to be a computer programmer prior to Lasik, with the same company for 17 years. I miss my old job and my old eyes. My vision is not very good due to irregular astigmatism induced from the Lasik procedure and haze that formed in the cornea. Most people do not realize what can go wrong because you only hear about the good results. Unfortunately, I'm one who ended up with many, many unresolvable problems from this surgery and it has turned my life and freedom upside down.
mistake her for a man - LOL

My mistake
I'm sorry, it is definitely 10,000 lines, I think I must have been seeing 1000 minutes but thinking 100 minutes. Sorry about that. Very long day.
yep, your mistake then. thank you. NM

thank you Sandi, appreciate your help! My mistake
meant w/o blank lines but in my haste I worded my post poorly. Sorry!
She's not the only one who makes that mistake....
I had a medical records director 20+ years ago mark on our evaluation under "skill level", that out MT job needed little skill for the job. I refused to sign the evaluation and told her she should be ashamed of herself. Can you believe it? And she had an ART just like me...go figure!
oops mistake
Meant disk failures though your disc in your back could fail. Writing, thinking and typing all at once sometimes throws me off. Mind is working too fast.
Look, you made a mistake.....
no need to go on the defensive and start calling people fanatics. Just because someone loves their dog like their child doesnt make them fanatical. It also does not mean that because their pet is treated like a child that their pet is not trained. Are your children untrained? My goodness! My children behave very well. Treating a pet like a loved child, in my opinion, would mean they are treated with a lot of love tempered with discipline and boundaries. I think that you are fanatical in that you cannot seem to have a normal middle ground when it comes to these two issues.
SAW ON FOX NEWS SAID IT WAS A MISTAKE
They said Ryan gave a number said to be Chris's, but actually when people called in it was the voting number for the girl!!!! Everyone should hound the Idol website!!! I knew something had to be wrong!!
Just want to avoid the same mistake...nm

You are right...Homans' it is, my mistake. nm

I made a mistake....
For my hard hyphen I assigned Alt + H, not Ctrl H as I had posted.
I do remember (sort of) trying the hard space and I couldn't get it to work. I believe it put in an extra space. I'm sure I tried the backspace and pause features without luck, got frustrated and quit. I should try playing around with it again because that would be a great time saver. I know I have Dr. in my ESP as dr....but closing up that space would be better.
I believe it put in an extra space. I'm pretty sure I tried several combinationns
But you get DINERO for doing that! If it's the same mistake,
