I meant South Asian, of course, not East.

If they just add an E, they can be the East Asian Association for MT. nm

Not all 'oriental' is Asian!........nm
nm
Yes, Asian dictators are toughest
Some of mine are decent, but the rest are terrible. Strangely, I don't have much problem with Indian dictators, thought I would.
No one mentioned either oriental or Asian.

Have you ever heard the Asian psychiatrist
on Law and Order dictate? He's pretty good. I'd do his reports. He's a dream!
It is NOT Oriental, no such nationality. It is of Asian descent.

Asian, Indian, British, Hispanic..sm
I am old and tired and just can't stand ANY ESLs anymore, and the sad thing is the good dictators are going offshore because the Indian MTs cannot even understand the ESLs. Unfortunately, most companies are filled to the brim with difficult ESLs and i guess if you don't do ESL, u won't have a job. That is why I am sticking like glue to where I work, NO ESLs.
People are Asian. Rugs and food are oriental.

I wasn't aware Asian people were sensitive
about it. Where I live I guess we don't have the largest Asian population. Those I have met have been rather reserved and didn't discuss anything personal to someone they met in business or a casual meeting. So forgive me if I used the wrong term when I said Oriental, because I was just attempting to be vague since I didn't check on the origin of the dictator's name. As for those who suggested I leave a blank, any report with more than 3 blanks has to go to QA. So I take the time to look at his other reports for instances where he either said it better or the MT was better at that particular accent. I'm quite good at many accents, including Korean (let me acknowledge that Korean would be a particular Asian accent so we don't start another time-consuming discussion over that tiny point). But whatever particular Asian accent this person has, at least with the system we are using to record his voice, I have trouble with. But I get a few reports by him nearly every day, so I've started a list of the phrases he doesn't pronounce well. Whatever his first language is obviously didn't use many of our sounds, so I was just thinking it would probably take a speech therapist to train him. IMO, some of his training isn't appreciated fully if his patients can't understand him when he speaks, or MTs have to leave blanks in his reports. So with all the education he's had already, what would be a few weeks of speech therapy, is what I'm thinking.
Sorry, 'MT way too long,' my post was not meant for you, it was meant for Wow! Sorry!!...nm

You must live on the east coast..sm
I used to live there too and it was either rain, humidity or hurricanes. I feel your pain, and I am so glad I moved back to the midwest. I wish you luck. Keep your powder dry!.
The East Coast is a big place.
The going line rate in NYC or Boston would probably not fly in SC or FL. Your best bet is to call around to some clinics in your area and see what they're paying. Also, I would bill by character line, not report. JMO
I'm in East Central Indiana and
have Comcast. When we first had it, it was down all the time. It turned out to be a faulty modem, which they had supplied. Once they changed that out, they have been incredibly reliable. It is very, very rare that they are down, and if they are it is usually less than an hour.
they're back east... thank you for the info nm

11 to midnite East coast time
is when they'll be watching it.
Two of them are metro one Midwest and one East Coast so....
that means many, many physicians, probably hard to get used to them, probably teaching hospital, so many residents? Many ESL's??? Probably huh? Hmmmm. Scary!

When I go back East to visit relatives
I am shocked that some things are a lot cheaper and briefly consider a move, but I adore the weather here. I also don't get why they send all the good veggies/fruits back there and we get left with the icky ones (unless you go to a farmer's market - which is what I try to do). Maybe the good ones survive the trip better and they figure we can deal with the shopworn ones locally.
You are talking about the 'FAR EAST', NOT the ORIENT....sm.
and the expression'oriental' is not meant derogatory, at all.
OK, I'll bite -what on earth does the East Coast have to do with it?
Please enlighten me!
I tested at a local hospital on the East Coast...
The pay was $14.82 per hour to start. They were paying medical unit secretaries $14.60. Also the job was per diem, needless to say I didn't take it.
Are you hourly? Benefits? Pay? East/West/middle?nm

I miss the food on the East Coast totally. sm
Love Colorado to live, but really miss the culture and the food on the East Coast. I stop at a simple diner on the PA Turnpike in New Stanton, and a cheeseburger and cole slaw is better than any dinner I could get in Colorado to me.
East Coast NYC area 18 cents a line, if ur a CMT

That's not right. Usually people think when 'Orient' is mentioned of the Middle East,
teh Middle East, also called Minor Asia, and the Arab countries in Northern Africa, like Egypt, Morocco, Libya, Tunesia, Algeria etc.....
Don't you?
Instead of 'oriental' one can say 'from the Orient.' also for persons. But one can say 'oriental', nothing wrong with that.
A poster mentioned China, Japan, Philippines, Korea etc...yes, this is Asia, also called the 'Far East'.
I do ER charts for East Jefferson, but of course those stopped yesterday, been worried about them nm

Airport greeting gift for hubby returning from the Middle East?
He has been gone for a year, working as a contractor. What type of gift might a man like at our airport greeting (besides me)? He is getting back in the evening, so I have really nice breakfast planned for the next day, but am wondering if he might like something special at the airport? Do you get men flowers, balloons, what? We have been married 23 years, but I am finding myself really nervous about this! You all have the best ideas, so please pass them on!
south where
Church retreats, bus tours. Casinos. (Tournaments for pinochle)....
where in the south are you?
some schools here started today, but mine started LAST Monday! It's kind of a relief, but I miss 'em already! Have a good first day of school!
And here in the south we would say...
Bless your heart, in other words you don't know any better and I feel sorry for the venom you are spewing out. You must really be one angry person! You assume this and that about the job I am doing. I format no work, keep no records, no copies. There are a lot of people out there who read these posts and it seems like you have just called a whole host of them unprofessional with the term "any professional peers" not beubg worried about their jobs. I think most of the people worrying might object to that. Just go back under your rock and I hope things pick up for you. Again, bless your heart.
looking for part-time Emdat work, preferably with clients in the East Coast
I have been making an average of 10,000 lines per pay period (bimonthly), on QA-optional status, but my accounts are based in the West Coast while I am in the East Coast. I usually work from afternoon to night to reach my daily goal of at least 1000 lines, which is not good for my family.
I would like to find part-time work to keep me busy in the mornings instead of nights. I prefer clinic accounts, ESLs or American dictators. I am willing to take a test anytime especially in the mornings EST.
Thanks!
I want our brave men and women fighting in the Middle East to come home safe and sound. sm
Imagine the Christmas their families are having. I am so grateful to them all.
I live in the south.
I was raised to be prejudiced. As I became an adult I learned better. Now I have mixed children on both sides of my family. I really hurts me to see these children, who I love dearly mistreated. Although the crime in the Holloway case may be a racial issue, I do not see that the media sensation is. She was an American tourist in a foreign country. People are interested. That sells newspapers, magazines and time on TV news. That says a lot about the American people. Missing children and teenagers in the U.S. are, for lack of a better term, "old news". Not to say that a parent of a poor missing child in this country is not just as devastated, I am saying that this is the way we have become.
South Florida, been there
eight years, IC until this May, now Employee
Hey, I WAS born in the south and I don't get it either.
But then again, I guess south Florida is not considered "The South," right?
I live in conservative N FL now and well, it's different..
You and msbeanctr are right on target and very eloquet.
have you ever lived in the south?
If not, then don't make negative comments about people you know nothing about.
I did South Beach also -
and lost the tummy area first. I was absolutely amazed how I was never hungry and didn't crave chips, ice cream and chocolate! I found it time consuming preparing the meals, but the results were worth it.
Goin South
That line was the funniest in the movie! (That and "Where's my bride?!" when he meets the 80-year-old who saved him from hanging.) Now I have to get out my old VHS tape & watch it again! LOL
