I make mistakes too (who doesn't?) but (sm)

some of the more obvious errors, like the difference in "their, they're, there", definitely spelled definately, accomodate, things like that are what I mean; they are not typos, but errors.  If someone told me I was spelling "definitely" wrong, you'd better believe I would put it in my Expander or SOMETHING.  I still say a lot of people just don't care and don't like being told anything.

When I see mistakes I repeatedly make, I make a quickcorrect for it (sm)
for example if I type we plant o instead of "plan to" I have a quick corrct so that if I type plant o, it replaces it with plan to, etc. It is hard - I was with the same company for 8 years. I do not work for anyone with an accuracy requirement though.
I make mistakes too

I have almost 9 years' of experience.  I still make mistakes and always will.  There are many things that I still do not know.  I still come across things I have never heard of.  I still get corrections here and there from my QA.

However, I think that is a good thing, QA.  I like getting corrections back when I have made an error.  That alerts me to the problem.  That makes me a better MT.  Also, I take some comfort in the fact that something I overlooked may be caught by another.  It is supposed to be team work.  The MT and QA are supposed to work together to produce a perfect report.

It is all in how you look at it.  It is very easy to get your feathers in a ruffle when given a correction.  I believe that reaction is soley out of embarrassment over making the mistake in the first place.  That is silly, however, seeing that we all do make mistakes and no one knows everything.

we make mistakes
but what makes us better human beings is that we try to stand up and do better. Forgive yourself for that mistake and be thankful for a good husband and move on. Be praying for you!
I sometimes make mistakes
On this board I am sometimes going so fast to get my message done and have come to rely on spellcheck so much that I find myself making mistakes.  But I must admit never have I in a resume.  And I also admit that sometimes my docs catch a mistake or two and perhaps three per month but with typing 2000 to 3500 lines per day and me being QA and MT, it happens.    We are only human and it is hard to proof your own work.  But on a resume I would have someone else check it.  On this board though I try not to worry as much.    I just don't think people take as much pride in their work and whether this came around when cpl was started, I don't know.
They cant take direction, make same mistakes over.

The harder I try, the more mistakes I make...
Go over report twice.
I have seen editors/QA people act put-upon because we make mistakes.
That's their JOB to correct mistakes.  And while we are working on production and a QA/Editor has time to listen to something over and over, they act like we should have gotten this and why was it sent to QA blah, blah.  Editors forget the sole purpose of their job is to fix the report and move on.  Some of them have to lord it over you with comments that are totally unnecessary.  Just give me the answer and I certainly don't need a speech or reprimand with the answer.  You do your job and I'll do mine.  I don't lecture you, don't lecture me.
Sorry, an "MT" should never make such basic mistakes,
FLAME AWAY.
Even grammar police make mistakes

we're all humans here and we all make mistakes

If MTs didn't make mistakes or leave blanks,

Sorry. I am human and I make mistakes like everyone else. Obviously I meant "two." nm

You spending 3K in gasoline to make 4K plus all that time on the road? That doesn't make sense Pat

The people proofing are human. Humans make mistakes daily.

Of course you second this. That's what MQ managers do. Doesn't make it right

or relevant.  Keep putting out those fires of MQ discontent, or at least until the big guns with the lawsuits put out MQ for good.

What a crummy job you have to defend big business against the little guys who are just trying to make a living.  Kinda have to sell your soul doncha?

doesn't this make the fed gov even more liable?
Think about it: If they knew how volatile this area was, shouldn't they have responded IMMEDIATELY to help the local gov? I imagine some people might have been afraid to go into some of those areas where murder and rape are an everyday occurrence...?

they knew how bad it was and how order was needed probably more than anyone did...
This doesn't even make sense - sm
Why are you getting these reports? Were you told or asked to do this? I don't get this at all, especially since you aren't QA.
What doesn't make sense? ..sm

From what the OP said, she wouldn’t have even known about the call if her husband hadn’t shared the information. Why would he create suspicion where there is none?

The only thing the OP’s husband did was answer his phone and tell his wife about the conversation. How many times a day do you answer a phone? How many times do you mention a call in conversation? He may have only mentioned it because he was amused by his friend’s childish ways. If the OP’s husband doesn’t want his friend using him as an answering service, then he needs to discuss that with his friend. It is between the two men.

What did the woman who called do wrong? She was given a number to reach someone at, and she called the number. If someone gives you a number to call, you assume it is okay to call that number. She may have even had a legitimate reason to get in touch with the guy.

Calling the friend’s wife would only humiliate and embarrass her. If her husband is a cheat, and there is no proof that he is, she knows. When she is ready to accept that information and handle it in her own way, she’ll do that. It is also possible that her husband isn’t cheating or that she doesn’t care if he’s cheating.

This situation has obviously caused tension for the OP. Maybe this is bothering her so much because she already has suspicions, if so, she needs to figure out if her suspicions are valid or if it is how own insecurities. She should then discuss her feelings with her husband calmly and rationally; freaking out or getting loud doesn’t make anyone hear you any better, in fact, the opposite is true. Just because someone else’s husband is a skank doesn’t mean her husband is a skank. It isn’t fair to convict this man of anything other than answering his phone and having a friend with poor judgement.

What? That doesn't make sense. sm
How would the house be worth less than she paid in legal fees to keep it in the divorce? Even if she paid $20,000 in attorney fees, she still came out the winner. These houses look beautiful, and it sounds as though she enjoys hers very much. Did you actually look at the photos, and read her description? You said you didn't think she's be able to give it away much less sell it, and that statement is just crazy.
That may be true, but it doesn't make it RIGHT. - sm
I think honesty and quality in the workplace should be more important than the Almighty Dollar. Especially when the people making MOST of the Almighty Dollars already have far more of them than they probably really need, and the MTs don't have enough of them to survive.
That doesn't make any sense then
I can't believe the trees would make any difference beaming to a satellite especially if you are able to get Dish Network.
Just because she said it doesn't make it true! LOL
"Boredom comes from within." Well, what does that mean exactly? Yes, I'm sure boredeom does come from within because deep down inside I want to be challenged. I want to use my brain and find a career where I forget that I'm even working because I'm so engrossed in the task at hand. I don't think that job exists. Do you? Or maybe it does, but I just haven't found it yet. MT certainly isn't challenging any more. The only challenge for me is keeping a decent paying account that doesn't go to VR or offshore.

At job interviews, I always tell the interviewer that I like to be kept busy. Otherwise, I start clock watching and thinking about all the stuff that needs to be done around my house. Sometimes I wonder if I'm ADD because I was the same way in school. If the topic interested me, I was there. If it was boring, like government or history, I would totally zone out and not be able to concentrate. I guess we're all like that to an extent, right? It's just difficult to concentrate on MT lately because I know it's just another report with the same old physical exam section, the same diagnoses, the same plan. It's never going to end as long as I do this job. Every day, there's more work, more of the same old, same old. Yeah, I think I need to get out of MT. I don't even know if editing or QA would be challenging enough for me.
doesn't make any sense--sm
explain "in the year you reach full retirement.." and "until the month you reach full retirement." very confusing.

it doesn't make sense (sm)
Do you really think Stedman's is going to make everything available for free?

This person has posted this link at least twice - who knows what it might be putting on your computer.

I haven't clicked the link and don't intend to. It can't be a legit link.
Just cuz the BOS says so, doesn't make it correct.

That doesn't even make sense. You don't
think newbies do MT? What? Well then what do you call all the newbies out of MT school who get jobs?
It doesn't make any difference...
whether you are an IC or not, the work still needs to be done... and it needs to be done 24/7.  There are plenty of companies who pay a decent shift differential, but that isn't the point either.  You should not always expect to get more in order to do what your job requires.  And you come here and post a rant about how you cannot find a good job... I think it is quite obvious why.  You are not willing to be flexible.
I'm not sure which is right, but either way, seems like it doesn't make sense to rebuild

are you the same Laura E who did not even make 12k last year? That doesn't
sound like plenty of work. It sounds like PT and that does not mean that there is enough for FT.
No, that doesn't make you a horrible person.

Doesn't it make you just about "loose" your mind? (nm)

Your comment doesn't make sense.
Maybe you're not talking about the same India/Indians, but what ytou said doesn't make sense. If they outsource most of their work to India, how do they "not" pay Indians? Explain, please.
No, having a separate office doesn't make
me concentrate any better. The part that is nice about it is when I'm not working, I can close the door and not think about work. When I can't concentrate, I usually put in some soft music, light a stinky candle, make a cup of tea and force myself to type for at least one hour before taking a quickie break. I pretty much make a deal with myself as a reward to get it done.
This message doesn't make a lot of sense.
If you owe $$ to the state, that has nothing to do with how fast you tax return will be done. You pay when you file, simple enough. If you want to pay and then file, then write the check today and stick it in the mail. Since you don't say what state you live in, I'll assume that your 2007 quarterly tax deadline is the same as everyone else's--1/15/08. If you have no idea, then the last place to be asking for advice on this matter is this board. Go to your state's website and check their revenue page.
no offense, but that really doesn't make any sense
6/cpl is 6/cpl and that's 3 cents less per line than 9/cpl.
Still doesn't make sense content-wise.

Americans spend time carefully deleting old files, etc., IN THEIR OWN HOMES while current records and sensitive information are allowed to regularly be sent to insecure terror hot spots like Mumbai?

It's all about PROFITS--not security or privacy.
Unskilled labor doesn't make much more than minimum wage anywhere.
How they can afford to work for minimum wage or purchase health insurance is a whole different issue. I don't want to subsidize unskilled workers benefits by paying higher prices at Walmart or anywhere else. And my dear poster, that's what it comes down to. If you force any company to pay "benefits" (health insurance is not an entitlement) the consumer will absorb the cost or the business will fail. Same with minimum wage going up or taxes. The prices go up to cover the business expenses. I go to Walmart for bargains. If I don't get bargains because the prices are high, I don't shop there. Walmart knows they need to keep prices low and they cannot afford to subsidize unskilled workers health insurance. My company doesn't and I understand the reason.
replace "should" with "could" - there, doesn't it make it a lot easier now?

Busy MT, your statement doesn't make a lot of sense. First of all, if US staff did walk out, MQ

one, because they don't have enough people in India to cover a large walkout and, two, their QA staff put out about maybe on a good day 70% quality.  Even the quality that gets back to the client I work for now is horrible because there are certain MTs who apparently some not too bright supervisor thinks is producing work that is good enough to go to the client without being checked over and the hospital is having an absolute fit over it.  I say, let em walk!

Most mistakes are not mistakes at all.
They are merely personal preferences other than those found in the the AAMT BOS which, incidentally, is not an "Official Rule Book of Medical Transcription" as AAMT would like it to be in order to sell more copies.
Mistakes

If the majority of us were QA'd every day they would find mistakes on all of us with the quantity  that we type.  We are all human.  But is there someway TAT they can give you everyone else but that one doctor.  I am the other way because I have one doctor that comma's me to death and so I hate to use a comma.   You have been with them for four years for goodness sakes that should be something especially if this is the first complaint against you.   They should bend knowing that since you are now aware of it you will be extra careful.   Talk with them again and explain to them you need more.   Good luck.   No one is perfect.

There would be less mistakes if
there wasn't such a nursing shortage and the nurses and physicians spoke English reasonably well. Our American HMO's and PPO's recruit these foreign physicians. Most hospitalist (and other specialties) are from foreign countries and only take care of patients who are associated with their HMO's and PPO's. With the nursing shortage, recruitment has been heavily extended to foreign countries. A friend of mine recently had CABG and could barely understand some of her nurses, nor could they understand her. The health care system in this country has become merely a business rather than a service to the sick and the system is broken!
mistakes
I caught my QA person making changes to my work a few months back - not small changes, but life-altering changes where a medical record is concerned. She is no longer with the company - having been let go on Friday after I reported it on Thursday. Have had no problems since. I would speak up. If the company has any integrity - they would want to know what you have found and correct it.
Mistakes
Are you noticing any pattern to the types of mistakes you make? Try to notice (if you haven't) and some answers as to how to fix the problem might come from that realization.

I am fairly new also and understand all your frustration. I get so frustrated with myself for not being able to retain info that I have repeatedly looked up.

I absolutely cannot imagine how people did this job before there were word expanders! Hats off to them!! :)
I think the majority of mistakes are
merely typographical or expander errors.  If MTs weren't paid such rotten line rates on production, maybe they could afford to relisten to and reproof every single report.  However, the people responding to the original post have evidently never made a single mistake in their entire lives.  Ah, yes, condescending, snotty superiority complexes on the rampage.  I'd be interested in seeing the MT profiles on those quoted reports, how many lines per day they produce, how many years of experience, and so forth.  For that matter, we could all sit here and rip on the mistakes we've found on completed reports, but personally, I don't feel better about myself by trashing other people.  My self esteem isn't measured by how stupid I think everyone else is like some people on this board.
