I love those long reports. I think of them as free money.

It's just straight transcribing with no stopping to verify patient or physician information to start a new note. I'll trade you for 1 minute long dictations by a little Russian guy?
I do understand the frustration at the duplication of information. Then again, the copy/paste feature works great at giving more lines for free with no typing. LOL I always thought that if I could find a way to simplify the medical record while still utilizing MTs, I'd be rich.

Lucky. I love long reports. I thought I got a good one, but it was a 1.5 minute
report with 12 minutes of dead air. Sit here and do nothing. For free.
LOVE teaching hospitals and long-winded reports. Less ADT time which I'm not paid for.
Hate filling in ADT screens w/ searches just to do a one minute report.
It is 10 reports transcribed for free.
The OP states the account goes through transcriptionists. I wonder why? The OP states later on in the thread they go through transcriptionists.
I'm trying to protect Lisa from getting abused from the get-go. All she has to say is "my charge is" and go from there.
Too bad if they were already transcribed. Does that mean Lisa should take the loss? NO. Absolutely not.
Again, read above where the OP states "they can't seem to keep a transcriptionist."
To the OP: Charge them! You won't regret it. If you are an IC, you have every right to charge them.
Plus, look at rockinMT's post. She bent over backwards for an account and what happened? It turns out she was spending more time than it was worth.
These are all my opinions, and I am trying to give my opinion on what the OP should do in regards to reports that she transcribed and should, yes, be paid for since she was not aware ahead of time and especially because it is a new account.
What do I know? Ya know? I mean really? Just looking out for the best interest of the OP, but hey, that's just me.
Also LOVE LOVE ESCRIPTION and make good money but...
Can I ask how you sit there for 8 hours. Lately, I'm having a motivation problem. When I focus, I can rack up the lines, but lately, I get so easily distracted. My mind wanders and I struggle to get my lines. Any tips on how you stay productive who do you work for?? I work for Transcend.
You can get free sample reports online. I would try
try the SUM program ones. You could probably find those on ebay too.
Op reports are just something that comes with time. Your employer should provide you with samples or you can ask for some.
free money
Ok everyone, does anyone remember a couple years back when Bush or whoever did this: sent out checks to taxpaying families for like $400 or so. Well has anyone heard anything about this happening again? I heard something about it on the radio but I caught the end of it. My mother said yes she had heard it. She said she heard it was for taxpayers. Which means pretty much everyone. She said it was about $800 this time for a single and more for a family. Sounds too good to be true. But I remember them doing this before. Anybody know any details on this?

Best if you are doing long reports...sm
where you are not messing around a lot on the patient demographic screens. If you can just get into the body of the report and do some work, it's o.k. Also if you don't have a lot of formatting changes, i.e. bold, italic, etc. And it doesn't have a word Expander so you have to use Shorthand for sure. The nice thing about our Meditech account is the line count does count gross lines and blank lines - but I don't know if that is just the way our hospital is set up or not. Meditech is picked for its billing and accounting capabilities. By the time any one asks the transcriptionists about it, it is already a done deal.
long reports
I do independent medical exams, which are usually quite long, for insurance companies and legal firms. they are dictated by MDs for litigation cases. The shortest ones are 4-5 pages, and I have had some up to 70-80 pages, so don't just look to medical facilities but try attorneys and insurance companies also. the company usually contracts with only one or two providers to do their exams so you are doing the same dictator(s) constantly so you get to really know their terminology and style. Mine use standards PEs, standing conclusions, etc., so I get to use a lot of macros. Because they are long you usually have a longer timeframe to complete them, too. it's a good way to go.
Long reports that drone on and on....
it's terrible...I mean, don't get me wrong, I love the line counts, but it's only 9:40 in the morning and I already want to take a nap LOL.
Silver Lining: I ran out of money and I'm smoke free
six days with no smokes...also, lost about ten pounds on an involuntary diet. It's amazing what you can cut out when you're broke...
I know this has been discussed before but how long does it take to relisten to reports that you have
typed. I know some people do that and some dont. So far I have done okay on QA but if I dont I was just wondering how much extra time per day you figure you need to relisten to reports. I usually do about 30 to 35 medium length reports acute care or 1800 to 2000 lines. What errors do you find mostly when you relisten or is it not worth the extra time it takes. Just curious.
How long should you store reports on your computer?
As a subcontractor, what is the appropriate amount of time to store transcribed reports on your computer before deleting them?
Those are long reports! I like 'em at 2-3 mins. so they

Psychiatric work or long reports
Does anyone work for/know of any companies that are hiring for psych work or any other long reports like memory disorders, or compensations? I have three years working with these and acute care. I would like to find long reports to do all the time.
Please write to my e-mail address
Thanks!
Long reports, dead air time
Does anyone have any good tricks for dealing with the long reports with huge segments of "nothing"? On top of that, the people I am dealing with are ESLs so that's slowing me down enough already.
At this point, all I do is speed up and fast forward but am wondering if there are other ways to compensate for this issue.
Seems like someone would teach them how to pause when they stop dictating!
IC Question: How long do you keep your reports for your docs?
ICs, I was curious to see how long do you keep your reports on your computer for the doctors? Is there a usual time limit?
Thank you!
I work whatever hours I want, as long as I have the reports back in TAT...
I have assigned doctors...

I understand... But I will not lose money by doing free work because she chooses to bill (sm)
will a method that requires me to give away free work. I will politely explain my position when we have our meeting. If push comes to shove, I will tell her that I will switch to her method of line counting, but I will need 9 cpl rather than 8 cpl. If she won't do it, I will give my notice.
Thanks for the input! I appreciate your time!
Not to mention you're letting the govt use your money INTEREST FREE
Ack!
Now that said, I usually have them withhold a little too much simply because we can't take a payment hit.
Go to Stedmans.com and download the free trial and save your money on overnight shipping

I absolutely love ER/ED reports.
When I worked at a hospital, we had a rotating schedule on who did those and x-rays. Like poster below, if you don't want them I will take them.
They WILL refund your money as long as you complain
loud and long enough. I did and I got a refund. I turned around and plunked that money on the Career Step course and have been transcribing for 11 years since then. Good luck to you!
How long will it take to start making money as an MT?
I'm new to this career. Have only been working for 6 months or so. Does anyone have any advice for a newbie? How do you make a decent living on 6 cpl? Any advice for increasing speed? Thanks.

I LOVE typing reports for podiatrists!
My first account was for a practice of 3 podiatrists and I so wish I could find another account like that. I miss it.

I do only Op Reports and love it. Great line count too. sm
Everyone is different, although I think you can learn them and you may even like doing them. Give it a shot and good luck!
Been specializing in op reports for 25 years now. You do need to keep up with the medical equipment terms. There is something new every day.
I have been around awhile, and will last making good money as long as this field does.

I do not love money but I love what it can buy
for me. I work 4 days a week now and was not bringing home what I wanted every 2 weeks, for some reason that is at least 1,000.00. I just decided to turn up the speed and put my mind to doing at least 3000 lines a day and figured by that should get what I want in the pay line. Worked well for me. I tell people if you want to talk with me call before I go to work, do not let outside influences bother me during my hours. Other than a bathroom break, glass of water, here for the straight 8.
I do VR, love it, make good money at it
and I have no idea why people who do not do, have not done, don’t plan on doing talk so much against it.
I take MetaboLife, ephedra free. Love it, lots of energy. nm

i use lingo and love it! sm (long)
i gave up 2 landlines and now use lingo ($20/month) over highspeed cable; save lots of$$$! only downside i know of is that emergency 911 calls are handled differently, but lingo has a 911 call protocol. some people keep 1 landline just for that purpose, but I figure if there's a catastrophe the landlines will be down anyway. also, if your cable goes out you don't have phone service. my mobile phone is my backup for emergencies now. also, i suggest you lease the modem, not buy; that way if the company upgrades their system they upgrade your modem and you're not left behind with obsolete equipment...
Long ops are the best! I love the technical
stuff! My favorite is cardiac surgery. Consults are good, too. I really don't care for discharge summaries or H&Ps, short or long. But always glad to just to have any work these days!
I love TransHealth. There are many, many long term MTs...sm
with the company who are also very happy. Benefits are great. Good platform. It's acute care work, with ESLs, but that's the name of the game today.
