C-phone help! Dial tone ok, but keys will not work.
There is a dial-tone when handset is lifted. Keys do not work to program, dial, ect. This is the same for 2 different units. Any suggestions?

Can I ask how you sit there for 8 hours. Lately, I'm having a motivation problem. When I focus, I can rack up the lines, but lately, I get so easily distracted. My mind wanders and I struggle to get my lines. Any tips on how you stay productive who do you work for?? I work for Transcend.

transcriptionists rank in two different categories. Emails to transcriptionists are probably much more frequent, the supervisors have alot more work to do than sending emails and are in a hurry. Perhaps concentrating on your own work instead of typos in an email would be more productive. which is more important?? geez. give others a break.
I have the ringing
constantly and it may be a little worse in the last few years from the MT work, but not sure. I've had it so long, I don't even pay attention to it until I lay down at night.
Something that may help you, which I did after attending a concert last weekend: My ears rang louder than usual for maybe 12-16 hours after the concert, and they were sensitive to noise, so I put cotton in my ears while working around the house for a few hours. I think it helped quite a bit to give them a rest. The ringing was back to my normal level after a few hours of quiet.

I have both ringing and hypersensitivity from TMJ ...
and my hearing is excellent. While ringing may be associated with nerve deterioration or damage hearing loss, it's not ALWAYS associated with either. In TMJ, it's a secondary effect of the muscle tension (though there is a vicious cycle aspect to TMJ).
Get checked by an ENT for all the usual and TMJ. Night guards are a life saver by preventing jaw-locking (and also thereby preventing eventual tooth loss from periodonal disease which is a big money saver and pain avoider.)
The hypersensitivity is called "hyperacusis" and is truly a very strange sensation. Avoiding loud noises helps a great deal but I was told that using ear protection routinely actually tended to make it worse. I wear my headphones (stethescope) model as little as possible because -- much as I love them -- they do exacerbate end of the day waves of tinnitus. Neck stretching helps me some times as often does soothing sounds (soft pretty music) and deep "relaxation" breathing. Good luck.
No, acutally it is have the phone ringing
close to you and the dictation has to keep going so it is unable to be heard OR answer your cell phone in the middle of your dictation and just hang it up then, we understand.

I was so mad, said WHAT is going on here? Got up and listened to messages. My friend said something about praying for those people on the plane. Had no clue. Some of those things you'll never forget. BTW, used to live in NJ and always wanted to work in NY but never did.

Yes, unfortunately you do have to make a pest of yourself to make it work, but.....
as the years went by that is why I stayed away from those type of companies. BTW, Noni is a fabulous product, I absolutely do not care for the "marketing techniques" they use. One of the facts of this type of industry is you cannot just recruit to make it, you have to retail. Ever since I "overhauled" my techniques and system...I never had to ask another person to some on board again. Well, nuf for now. Take care and have a blessed week!!

I have to admit that is a bit over the top. But my point was that unions are there to protect the workers and make sure they get a fair and decent wage for the work they do. If workers aren't protected, corporates would have everyone working for slave labor kind of like MT is now. Yes, MT is production paid and we all knew this when we signed on but we aren't protected and our pay keeps getting driven down by corporate. At least unions have negotiations with corporates - give a little, get a little. Compromise. We MTs have NOTHING. We have no say in decisions being made, even when those decisions negatively impact our jobs. I know as an MT I would never agree to ILP or ASR as those two decisions are the downfall of our industry, only my opinion of course. Corporate keeps making these decisions that will only benefit them and their own pocketbooks. They are not looking out in the best interest of MTs because they don't have to. As I said in my previous post, they keep chipping away at our jobs little by little because nobody is stopping them. But if we as a whole had some sort of organized leadership negotiating on our behalf, then maybe we could stop ASR and ILP from taking all our jobs and the MT industry could once again be a respected profession that we could actually make a decent living at like it used to be.

This doctor said, loud and clear, "meningismatic" for meningitic. !!! This particular dictator is also constantly making up words. It's actually kind of entertaining at times--only when it's obvious what he really means. If not, and I have to leave a blank, I'm not exactly laughing......

Oh, forgot to say all the phones ringing, overhead speaker blurting out pages, background talking
dictator's cell phones ringing, kids yelling from dictator being at home, machines in the ICU beeping off and on during the entire dictation, saws going from casts being removed nearby, and you can just imagine all the other noises such as nose blowing, sniffling, chomping on food while dictating, and on and on. EXSpeech doesn't like those noises, so the machine lets the MT"s transcribe those YUKKY reports all day long and all night long. Exspeech gets the good guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My first impression of wrong thinking was your statement of being "employed for a year as an IC." That is a contradictory statement. An IC is not employed. An IC is contracted with. The IC decides the schedule and the company, if the work is there, agrees to provide said work to the IC on the schedule offered. The MTSO does have the right to set a turn around deadline because of its contract with its client. If that IC does not (on several occasions, albeit out of your control) meet those schedules, the MTSO still has a business to run.
I honestly feel sorry for both of you. It isn't surprising on the MTSO's part to train someone else while planning your exit. That is common in most industries. It sounds like there is a lot more to this story than has been shared here. I'm sorry that you are in a pinch but at the same time, maybe you have learned something about the business of business. I hope things get better for you soon.

Everyone has things in their lives that are not expected and a challenge to our daily lives. Everyone, not just you. Yes, we all can become resentful about those things when they impinge on our happiness, but not all of us bring it to a message board looking for sympathy. You volunteered for work and then vented about the kind of work you got. We all have forms of stress in our lives. It is how we deal with those stresses that makes us grow as a person and spiritually. Sometimes we need to step away from our own self-pity and place those feelings in a direction of thankfulness for what we do have. I wish you many rich blessings in the near future.
The tone was not supportive
I am sorry, but the message was completely overbearing and rude. There would have been many more ways to go about giving the message with being so mean about it. Why be rude to someone who is already upset. That just isn't right.

Owners set the tone
Owners can indeed be nice, but they also need to set the tone, or the corporate culture, for *nice*. Polite and respectful has to be the clearly stated expectation for behavior by everyone. *It goes without saying* does, indeed, need to be said and reiterated every so often. The idea that everyone in the firm is a client of every other employee needs to be stressed. Some of these things are fairly easy for the owners to check. Ever call your own business as a potential new hire and see how you're treated? Ever call Technical with a problem and describe yourself as a worker instead of a boss? It can be a real eye opener, and it's something owners need to know.

They sound so vindictive. Liz is trying to remedy a lot of problems here, so the least we can do is be civil. I think we have all had problems at one time or another with something, but the sign of maturity is to try to iron out the problems and then get on with your life. Harboring strong feelings of animosity is not good for you.

That's why I call your posts whining and bitter! The other poster stated her case in a mature way, using stats as her back up. No whining, no bitterness. I have not formed an opinion on the AAMT either way to date, but am leaning more pro-AAMT by just the style of postings - those supporting it come off as calm, professional, and mature, while those not supporting it sound emotional, bitter, and whining. Just my opine and reaction to the posts!! Debate much? Its a great skill, and long lost in America...

I think what you may be looking for are actual experiences from people who have done this on a part-time basis, not as a full-time career. I'll tell you...it is very possible to do part-time to supplement your income, and it can be very enjoyable (and even somewhat rewarding) IF you find the right fit as far as specialty, employer, schedule, etc.
I started an on-line course about 4 years ago, it took me just under a year to finish it at a very casual pace, and I found a position as an IC when I was about half-way through the course. Over the past 3 years, I have applied with about 10 different companies and have received employment offers from the majority of them. I have a very good work ethic and track record, have never been a "job hopper," and it has paid off in this field, as this caliber of employee seems to be a rarity and it is therefore appreciated by employers.
I currently am working about 15 hours a week, make about $350 a week, and I love it. I won't lie, though, and tell you it was a piece of cake to get to this point. I had to work hard and "cheap" for the first year, but now I am so glad I did. It is actually very relaxing for me, and I look forward to working. However, I do not have a baby OR a full-time job. I have a husband who makes good money and supports the family and provides insurance and financial security. However, someday should I ever need or want to work full-time I at least have that option available.
I worked full-time (plus some) in a professional office for about 15 years, but after my first child was born I cut way back and have NEVER regretted it. My kids are now teens and pre-teens, and my time with them has been precious, to both me and to them. They are very well-adjusted, confident kids and have made me very proud.
Good luck with your decision, and I'd say "go for it." You seem like a very level-headed person with a lot of drive and ambition. Sorry about all the "negativity" on this board; you just have to learn to consider the source sometimes and read between the lines. It's really too bad, but there's no use fighting it; some people will just never be happy I guess.

I work for 2 companies and make
0.0825 cents per 65 character line with spaces at one and 0.10 cents per 65 character line with spaces at the other so it just goes to show it varies.

The first online company I worked for, unfortunately, found out later they were India-based. Anyway, I work in Escription and made SQUAT. It would take 12 hours or more to make $100. Now, I work for another company that uses Escription and I can make up to $26 an hour doing VR. I think these companies set something up in the line count as how to count it and also it depends if they pay for headers, footers, etc. I definitely got ripped off the first go round. I like the company I work for now and like Escription. You can make money on this platform, although I am paid more than 3.5 for VR. That is ridiculous.

PRD is on my old MQ program, but I can't seem to get it moved over to my Microsoft Word page. I can't seem to get my Stedman's Spell check over there either.

If it works for you, feel free to share with your colleagues. If double
clicking a doc or dot file opens Word 2003 and not 2007 it should work with
the company software - depending on how the company software calls Word.

I hope this will help everyone! I know it helped me. I love typing in Word2007, but for now, I will have to type in Word 2003 until my company's software is compatible with it. At least I can have both programs running at the same time! The info on his web page about creating a toolbar is not necessary, unless it is something you need to do for Word 2007.

I am 60 years old and neither need the $ nor the bennies, I just love doing transcription (of course with the caveat of having all the appropriate demographics provided as well as clearly enunciated dictation). Doubt, though, that you can understand this.
