I know what you mean

Several years ago my friend had a fall at work where she slid into a wall headfirst. She injured her low back but at the time she also had this burning and tingling in her arms. Later the low back was so bad that that was her major complaint so they did a laminectomy. After the surgery she still had numbness in her legs. Her surgeon just blew her off, saying that she just needed to stop focusing on her pain. The numbess started climbing to where it was the middle of her waist. I had been doing research and I knew something was wrong, and I kept telling her I thought it was her neck. I went with her to the surgeon and demanded that they have her seen by someone. The guy they referred her to asked her about 3 questions and then said, "Of course, this is all coming from your neck." She had a herniated disk that was pressing on her spinal cord- he was concerned that even a bump on the head the wrong way or a big sneeze could cause paralysis. Boy did the surgeon jump when he heard this- wanting her to come in IMMEDIATELY the next morning for a myelogram when before he wouldn't even listen to her. Lucky for him things worked out okay but she still has some residual cord damage that probably could have been prevented.
Her regular doctor now is the same way- acts like she is some hypochondriac or something. I have to go to the doctor with her and tell him what I think is wrong and why before he will listen. He didn't believe she had sleep apnea (she does), he didn't believe she had anything wrong with her heart (she does). Thank God she is finally getting a new doctor now.
