I keep it on 24/7 but turn off monitor when I'm away any length of time.

I actually do turn if off every week or 2 but very seldom.  I've been told it's much better for computer longevity to leave it on.  Hope that is correct!

length of time
I usually figure 1-2 times the length of the dictation if the doctor doesn't mumble, pause, or have an accent. If there is an accent of lots of vocab I have to check, it can take anywhere from 3-4 times or longer. And as above, this is using expanders. A meeting format would probably be more difficult unless they are taping it professionally. Otherwise, people's voices may fade in and out, you might have background noise, etc. In this case, I would figure around 8 hours, maybe a bit more.
As I recall, ONLY after you've been there for a set length of time.

Turn around time

My husband had an evaluation on 5/8 with a referral to a radiologist for an epidural. I called this office today and was told that it usually takes up to 8 days for the referring doctor to send the consult and then several weeks to schedule the injection. My problem is that it takes up to 8 days to send the consult - the radiologist is in the same practice, a doorway away.

Does HIPPA regulate turn around time?

How a pain management doctor's office can delay the care of a patient who is in obvious pain is beyond me. Does this sound fair to you?

Thanks, Barb

5 yrs is a long time for monitor life......n/m

I'm no computer genius but my monitor does it all the time sm
When??  When my cell phone is near by and something goes on with it, like a message comes through via email (I have a BlackBerry now).  However, it did it before with my regular cell phone too - so I came to the conclusion that someone nearby was getting a phone call or something.  Nothing has ever happened to my monitor...
BTW, I have a 24 hour turn around time sm
but often will get an e-mail asking for charts I typed and sent (always check my sent mail) up to 4 days earlier. Guess maybe they really do need that advisor.
when an account goes out of turn around time, what does that cost

the company?  does the client not have to pay or is there a lowered price for being out of TAT?  the reason i ask is i am on an account that seems way out of TAT and it seems if they offer a bonus to get the account done, it would be better than being out of TAT and losing money on it.  anybody know how TAT affects the nationals financially and why when things are falling behind they don't offer bonuses to catch up.

thanks to anyone who may have any answers on this.

She is scared about turn around time of her business. Prob nothing you can do other than what you d
She does understand, just frustrated and wanting to prob, poke, intimidate, make you feel bad. Just stay calm, when giving her choices just stay calm and say which would you want me to handle for you. Say, I can HELP YOU with thus and thus. She knowwwws just scared and just remain calm, stick to your "Calm Guns" and don't take personally. Say, I know you are worried, this is how I can help, which will it be (so to speak, she will soften and might end up apologizing a bit. Remain at least another month and see how pans out.
It's cold here this morning!!! I had to turn on my office heater for the first time this year.
Winter's coming and it's supposed to be incredibly cold the next couple days.  YUCK  And, with the gas prices the way they are I guess I'll have to suffer with it a little colder this year.

Just turn it off and wait for the electricity to dissipate and then clean it and turn it back on. nm

Turn down such low low offers, turn industry around. sm
The way to figure is how many lines an hour do you do. There are 13 lines characters in a line (65 line length)
So say you TRY to average 4 pages an hour say 34 lines a page equal 139 lines, times your line rate.
139 X 4 cents a line = $5.56 an hour

and what if you don't do 4 pages even less.

MTing hourly hourly output is not very predictablel, so ya never know and predict what you can put out each hour.
THE WAY TO TURN THE INDUSTRY AROUND IS TO SPEAK UP, SAY 'NO' THAT IS TOO LOW AND GIVE SHORT EXAMPLE.

If the MTs continue to accept, that is what the going rate will continue to be. Yes, Yes, it will. Just keep looking. Email for general lowest to highest line rate prior to testing and resume, just say it saves time on both sides and it DOES. Why waste time. Soon, the message will get out there.
Turn off puter, wait a min, turn on with delete key pressed down, then hit delete key NUMEROUS times
dd
Well if the file is 60 min in length

How long does it take you to transcribe 60 min of dictation?   If it doesn't take that long, then swell, but if it takes you all day, then that's not much hourly...

Paid by the dictated minute is horrible especially when you've got a speed demon dictator that turns out it's actually 120 min worth of dictation because they talk so darned fast...

The font has nothing to do with the length
of a line, that is set by the margins. A 65-character count line is a line, whether the line itself has 55 characters or 85 characters. It takes 65 to make a line.
Depends on length of page
If you get $2.50 a page, that's including short pages? I find that my average page is 25 lines. They are not all full.
What about the sometimes-variable pay period length??
Twice a month, it's usually 11 working days, but can be a day shorter or longer from time to time....

We have a very generous 125 LPH requirement, which in an 8-hour day would come to 1000. Multiply that by the number of days in the pay period.

We have to average at least 1200 lines per day to make the first incentive bonus level, and it stays at 1200 lines per day regardless of pay period length. I.e. if it were a 10-day pay period, the incentive level would be 12,000 lines. For the usual 11-day pay period, it's 13,200.

My sister works for a hospital in Oregon; they have a 1400 lines per 8-hour day requirement, which comes to 175 lph.
Medium to long length acrylics.
I type a little better without them, but not enough to make me want to get rid of them!
Does anyone know how to set Page Length in Windows 97? See inside
New account, they need the page to stop at 8.9 or 9.1, and so I have to put in a hard page break.

BUT, does anyone know how to set the page length to be shorter automatically? Something I can create a template or whatever, and when I type on that account, the page length will automatically break at 8.9 and then I will know to put the hard page break in when the machine does?

Thanks.
The typing itself will take 3 to 4 X the length of dictation if it's easy but...sm..

I don't know what kind of meeting you're talking aboutl.  Board meetings is usually formated as an outline, which will take quite a bit of extra time even if you already have a template for it.  It's just a pain.  I hope you have a meeting outline template.  If not, keep one after the first one you type for any after that.  You could ask them for one.  Tell them you want to see how they like it formatted.  Hopefully, they'll give it to you on disc or something so you don't have to re-type the outline.

It also depends on how many people are speaking in the meeting and if they're speaking into the recorder.

I think it means any line no matter what length.
but that's a guess
Also, at times I'll skip a job due to length, not
If I know I've only got 30 more minutes to work and have to leave, I'll skip over a 25-minute long file, regardless of the ease/difficulty factor, so I like that we have the option. I can finish a few more shorter reports for the client that way whereas I might have otherwise logged off altogether. BUT, I also do my fair share of the hard ESLs and long files at the beginning of shift. I used to be 100% against skipping any files, but OTOH, if someone knows they can't do that ESL's work, maybe it's best for someone who CAN to take them on so the reports are more accurate. I would at least hope that the MTs have given it a good effort first though. I agree this might not be abused as much if MTSOs would pay for difficulty factor, though.
This is one place the font and line length absolutely
make a difference. If you have to use a small font and long line length, you will make the same or less than a 65 character count. Always check out the number of characters that can be put on the line with their defined margins. For example, 1 company uses 1 inch margin, but a tiny font, so the line length can actually be 104 characters, or almost double what the counted 65 character line is. Some have a "secret" formula for saying it will come out the same as a 65 character line, but that is a hoax, as well, as only part of the report is adjusted for that, not the entire report. The only gross line count on WP51 was the only good way for gross lines. Word has really changed that picture.
I just bought one and returned it! Headachy. I think more vertical length would be better for our pr

It depends on font size, line length, margin size, etc.
There are too many variables.
Are you a monitor here?
>>
I luv my LCD monitor
Not much to assemble. It's really a matter of popping the two cords into the back of the monitor. It'll take you about 15 minutes from start to finish ... that includes opening the box, taking out everything, reading the directions, connecting the monitor, installing the software), and throwing the box out.
monitor

If you use your computer a lot, plan on buying a lot of batteries or having a backup for a wireless with a charger.

As for monitors, you can get them on pricewatch pretty cheap now.  I actually bought my son a 21 inch Sony on ebay for 200 including shipping.  For my own 19 inch, I bought it at a rent-to-own furniture store.  Once they have them a few months, they sell them and I bought it for 40. and it's like new.

Monitor
Yes! Yes! Yes! I recently got a flat-screen and I love, love, love it. I have a Sceptre which I bought at Wal-Mart for about $150.00. Best thing I ever did. It really cut down on my headaches. Get a flat-screen. You will not be sorry. I promise. :)
Well I DO need a big monitor...
these days. After hitting 40, my eyesight definitely isn't what it used to be, LOL!
monitor
i used to have this happen, and with mine, it was not a precursor to going out. But i can't remember what supposedly caused it -- power surge, interference?? but in my case, led to no other problems.
Monitor......
Buy a shield or screen for the monitor that minimizes glare from the lightsource.
Need help with monitor

I recently had a monitor conk out, so I got the one out that came with my personal computer (a couple years old but never used).

Everything was fine for a few weeks but lately, out of the blue, my page will shift to the right for no apparent reason (leaving 1-1/2 inch of black on the left and the right edge of the page not in view) and then it will shift back at some point.

When I press on the monitor menu button, nothing happens at all.  I know when I first set it up, the menu and selections worked fine.

Any idea what is happening here?

Do you use more than one monitor?...

My husband and I "built" our new computer on Dell's website last night, and they are offering a second monitor for a very reasonable rate.  My question is, does anyone have this set-up using 2 monitors to work?  I didn't quite see the use for 2, but maybe to have one just for typing, and the other for my references?

Apparently, it is set up that you just have to move your mouse and it will move over to the other screen....seems easy enough.  But, I don't know if it would be worth the extra space it would take up on my desk and work area.  So,does anyone have this set-up and consider it a must?

Thanks very much for your help!

What monitor do you have?

This has nothing to do with the monitor...sm
It's about how the page will be printed:

Portrait or Landscape.

Click on 'File'
Click on 'Page Set Up'

Then you have the option: Portrait or Landscape, click how you want it printed.

Portrait prints it vertical
Landscape horizontal (for longer lines)

who are we to monitor what they do with their money?
What is the *proper manner*?  What you think they should do with money?  These are grown men and women with families.  They can decide what to do with the money.  There but for the grace of God go I.
Software with monitor
You install the software that comes with the monitor. It's very straight forward. Insert disk. Install software. Enjoy monitor.

Try moving your monitor up or down, too. sm
When my monitor is not positioned correctly, I get terrible neck aches and headaches. Sometimes just a half inch really makes a difference. Or even move your keyboard up or down. When I worked at the hospital, maintenance had to move my whole desk up onto 2 x 4's to give me that little bit of extra I needed and then I was comfortable. They had a desk made for kids that I had to sit at. It was really cramped.
guy got me a Hyundai monitor.....sm
Believe it or not, Hyundai sells monitors for around $140.  It was compatible with the Dell.  Hope that helps :)
