I don't know which Expander you are using at the moment, but I finally made the switch from Instant Text to Smartype and the only regret I have is not doing it sooner.
I know I'm in the minority, but Instant Text just had too many bells and whistles for me. IMO, the Smartype is much more user friendly AND my productivity has increased around 50 lines per hour!
Good luck!

I switched from Shorthand to Instant Text.. sm
and love my Instant Text! It is much smarter than I am though and I am still learning, but it has features that ShortHand did not. The support staff is great and the Productivity Board is also very helpful. There is a lot of information there and if you have not visited it, I would suggest you check it out as there are Shorthand and IT users there. It is www.productivitytalk.com.
I switched from Shorthand to Instant Text and my experience was...s/m
I'm curious to see what the reactions were from those that went from SH to IT versus IT to SH. I'm getting ready to switch from IT to SH and really need some input from you well seasoned professionals!
I truly appreciate your time and help!

I'm curious to see what the reactions were from those that went from IT to SH. Were you glad or did you go back? Please, help. I'm seriously contemplating a switch from IT to SH and really need some input from you well seasoned professionals!
I truly appreciate your time and help!
I switched from SH to Instant Text a couple of years ago and would never go back.
I increased my productivity another 30 percent pretty quickly. And you can still use your old shortcuts with IT. Browse through the IT Commands forum on Productivity Talk for tricks you never thought you could do with a text expander.
Instant Text or SmarType?
Not sure what version of Word I am running - software loaded on computer when I bought it.
I like Smartype better than Instant Text.

Instant Text vs Smartype
I am interested in knowing how to make as much $$$$ as I can with either Instant Text or Smartype. How long should I give each before giving up on this profession? Thanks
expanders Smartype vs Instant Text
Stuck in a rut!!!
Lost my 2-year word-expansion dictionary and am changing jobs. I noticed after my dictionary crashed and starting from scratch I was coming up with new abbreviations since I was in the mode of adding them back in. Think we can get stuck in a rut and not challenge ourselves sometimes. I have used Smartype in the past and loved it, but I am curious about Instant Text. Anyone ever try both??????
Instant Text imports Smartype file with a few clicks
Another option would be to use Instant Text V Pro.
With a few clicks you can convert your Smartype files and blocks into an Instant Text glossary and use your Smartype abbreviations with Chartscript.

Instant Text. Tried several, love IT.

Tried them all - love Instant Text
It is more money, but worth it. I like that i can take files and automaitcally compile glossaries. However, if you aren't sure about the money, i tell others to try ShortHand and some of the others. If you decide you want to go with IT, the dictionaries you create in other products will convert to IT for the most part. Have a good one!
LOVE Instant Text!
I type for physical therapists @ home and use IT. I have stored every Mailing Address once under the Address Tab. When I type for a psychiatrist with another account, he is ESL doctor too, I have keyed in the drugs and dosages per patient and they come up very quickly at the bottom of my screen in a box. I also use Quick Correct but have to have those memorized compared to seeing it pop up in IT. IT also can figure out the rest of some of your sentences. You have to keep checking the box every few seconds, but it works for me and has cut my typing time tremendously!
I LOVE my Instant Text!!! You may want to look into it because...
it has an importer/exporter that can easily convert your Chartscript Expanders into it. That way you won't have to start from scratch. It's a bit pricy at $189.00, but well worth it! Good luck!
Love EXText. I use Instant Text sm
with no problems. I like the search features. The software allows you to search for reports by dictator and work type, and view completed reports. This is a huge help with difficult dictators or unfamiliar terminology. I worked for a service that counted headers and footers in the line count, and we invoiced the figure we got in Control I. My line counts run much higher in this software than others I have worked in.
I LOVE Instant Text. No, it is not hard to use.
.
I love Instant Text too, especially the continuations feature!
I love my Instant Text. Hardly any memorizing of shortcuts and... sm
it works in any Windows program and a lot of platforms--even in this forum post. With Word and platforms that insist you use their expander, you're stuck because you can't use it everywhere and you probably have to start all over again with something else. I think I saw on the IT forum that you can use it with Bayscribe.
From what I understand from others, Smartype doesn't even work that well with Word 2003 and not at all with 2007. It doesn't look like they will be upgrading it either. BTW, Instant Text can import your Smartype glossaries if you think you're ready for a change.
Does anyone use SmarType and Word using text fields {}? When I F11..sm
to the next field {} it causes SmarType to lock up. Does anyone know how to fix this?
thanks so much
Nope. I switched to Firefox months ago and LOVE it. nm

Where did you get Instant Text?
Like Best Buy or somewhere like that?
Instant Text ?
All you have to do is add VENTILATION PERFUSION SCAN to the glossary. Type it in your document the way you want all caps with a colon or not, etc. and highlight it and press Alt and the +/= sign at the same time to add it to the glossary and then the next time you want it type vps but look at the list and pick the one you want all caps or lower case. You can always delete the lower case version if you do not need it. Let me know if you need more info. Good Luck
Instant Text V Pro
I can give you some info on Instant Text V Pro if you'd like.
The most popular features of IT V Pro include the Importer, the Compilation feature, the Includes feature and Continuations.
The Importer takes abbreviation lists from other sources, such as AutoCorrect, and imports them into IT so you can continue using them without having to start creating a new list from scratch.
The Compilation feature is used to create personalized glossaries by scanning saved documents on your computer and pulling out the most frequently used phrases and words to instantly compile a customized glossary in seconds.
The Includes feature allows you to use more than one glossary at a time.
And the Continuations feature is a feature that brings up what you are likely to type next in your sentence. So for example, if you were to type "The patient", IT will then suggest what you are likely to type next based on what you've typed in the past.
