Docshuttle and waveplayer. I had contact with them throughout the period of waiting for the software to arrive, etc. If you purchased the disk and not just the download, you can return it.

Which company is best to purchase digital recorders from?
I want to be sure I get good tech support along with my purchase and the original software that should come with the recorders I purchase. (I have "heard" that some company may send their own software with the recorders they sell.)
Bytescribe Company - May Purchase Their OratorPro Dictation System - Any Input?
Does anybody have experience with the company called Bytescribe and their telephone dictation systems? I am looking into buying their OratorPro system where I can have doctors telephone in and dictate onto this system.
Thank you.
Mine is great. I just started though and
she has been very nice--on the phone, responding to emails, providing me with copies, etc.
It is a GREAT company and great deal! I've had
Vonage about 6 months now and I love it. The only mistake I made was trying to keep my original phone # - I wouldn't recommend that. You have a temp # for a while, and the other provider can fight for the old #, etc. Go to vonage. com. They have new features all the time! There is even a new soft phone that is a phone on your screen. You don't need a real phone when working - just headset. It has 800 #s you can have very inexpensively - great voice mail. You get emails when you have new messages, etc. I only wish I had used them a year ago! Nothing but good things to say, and I complain about everything!
My company has recently started sm
assigning jobs by the TAT, not by the work type. Again, maybe you need to refresh yourself on the various specialties/work types. The SUM tapes can really help with that. If you are interested, email me. I bought them on ebay, and can make cheap copies if you like.
I just started with a new company this week, so I will let you know how it goes. SM
I am still working for Spheris just in case, but if this new one doesnt work out I will look elsewhere. Kind of fed up.
I started a new company not long ago, too
and they were detail-oriented. Like you, my transcription was great, but I kept forgetting the little things - how they like their dates formatted, when to add headings, when to expand abbreviations. I printed out the emails with the corrections I got and made myself a cheat sheet to keep beside my computer. I reviewed it before each shift and referred to it frequently while transcribing.
Learning the formatting/account specifics is probably the most difficult part of starting a new job, and I'm sure their QA dept is aware of that. I made it and so will you. Just stick with it and double proofread things. I also doublechecked my demographic information prior to submitting just to be sure. One thing to remember, when in doubt, flag it for QA.
I started out working for a company ...sm
that gave you everyone who worked there's IM and then the company who bought them out isn't that way. They don't encourage contacting other MTs working there. Which has not stopped me. I still have managed to get email addresses and then get their IM. It does help tremendously when you are able to talk to others on the same account as you.
What a great post! I have 3 kids and my oldest just started college ...
I miss him like crazy even though he comes home every weekend with his laundry! He is also a drummer in a band and for some reason, their new drum set is at my house. But, I realize that soon enough my house will stay clean and the noise (i.e. - drums, guitars, laughing, fighting - not sure I'll miss the fighting!) will quiet, so I try to enjoy it all as much as possible. (excuse me while I go have a quick cry and then get back to work! )
Happy New Year, everyone!
Just started with a company 4 days ago and having same issues!!
VERY frustrating. I am paid hourly while I work, no work=no hours, so I charged them for the hours anyway. I went from a job with too much to do to nothing to do BORING!! They promise it will pick up and I am just keeping my fingers crossed!!
I started work for 1 company this past
year that was really out in the sticks. They had dial-up because they were not close to anything and that was a company!! What I dislike so much about having my DSL is here in Atlanta with Bellsouth you have to have a land phone if you have the DSL. I am hoping with the take over of Bellsouth with AT&T maybe they will give you the fast access without the land. I spend sooo much on something I rarely use but went with another provider here in town and not satisfied with the service so back to MA Bell. I have to have the fastest. I really don’t want to try any others as that switch was sorta nighmarish!!
Not sure, but I started wtih a new company as an IC and they said they were not compatible
with 2007 and that I had to have 2003 or older to use. I think the majority of companies out there are not using the newest version.
Hired by new company and started training today.
Should have trained yesterday, but no one contacted me. So of course, I contacted them. During training today, their foot pedal did not work. When their tech put their software into my computer last week, he said he "fixed it" so that their software would work with my firewall turned on and that my autocorrect would work with their software and I wouldn't have to re-enter 3000 shortcuts. Well, you know the rest. No autocorrect and I cannot access their system with my firewall turned on. Plus I can't work because the foot pedal doesn't function. With all that the MTSOs demand of us, you would think that they should have at least some of their act together, no?
Okay...say Snopes is correct and it's a rumor started by a gas company...
How does the gas company that started the rumor know everyone will flock to them?
I buy my gas from the station that posts the lowest price, and not necessarily twice in a row. I may buy from Kroger, Walmart, or some other company, but they're always selling for several pennies below the big companies.
Just started working as an IC for a company, found out something I had been transcribing for
years was wrong. When I questioned it, they explained it to me, but for 20+ yearse no one else had seemed to care. You learn something every day in this business.
Great company
Go for it. They are a great company to work for. Great benefits, wonderful people, flexible, plenty of work, direct deposit.
Great Company!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I currently work for this company, and I can honestly say that this is the first MT job that I have ever looked forward to doing every day. The work is great, the pay is great, and the boss is great. I don't have to share "pool" work with a bunch of night-feeding sharks that eat it all up before the sun rises, I don't have to punch a time clock, and my paycheck comes precisely when it is supposed to. I have answers to my questions whenever I need them, as well as encouragement. I would say to those of you who are complaining about, but have never worked for, this company and it's owner, maybe you should find something more productive to do with your time.
MDI is a great company. (See inside)
First off, Liz was not "promoted", she is the prior owner of the company.
Jason was fired.
We have very low turnover in team leaders, and the last time it was posted was around March of this year.
Good points about the backlogs, I will make sure that Deb & Terri send out the list of accounts that are out of TAT
Oracle is a great company.
Your own schedule, their platform is easy once you understand it, they don't bug you all the time, friendly staff, good techs who are very helpful, and it sounds like they fit you to an account that you feel comfortable with. WHAT more could you ask? Okay, if you want your equipment supplied and want bennies, then you'll have to take the stricter scheduling and go with another. But for me, Oracle is the only answer.
Great company to work for!
Maybe I just work for a great company
but where I work they provide the people at home computers and they pay for the DSL, and if they are required to come in to the office during one of their shifts (we do work shifts) then they are paid for travel time to and from. I don't think those things are unreasonable to ask for. A few of us work in house here because we choose to, but most of the MTs are at home.
That is where I work and yes, they are a great company...
I have plenty of work (sometimes too much but I would rather have too much than not enough), have never run out of work in 2 years and have great team leads...in my opinion, they are the best company out there, at least for me..
great company for equipment
If you need headsets, foot pedals, or other transcription equipment, give C.H.A.R.T.S. a try. They have always been super good to deal with and fast. I called yesterday morning, they helped me figure out which generic foot pedal I needed, and it arrived this morning, and I did not pay a huge amount for overnight ship, just a regular cheap drop ship price. I just love this place!

yes they are very flexible. They are a great company to work for.
Best job I EVER had!
AccuSTAT in Wisconsin. Great company, IC only. nm

What a GREAT idea! Good for your company. nm

AccuStat EMR/carolinas is a great company!!
AccuStat EMR/Carolinas is a great company!! I can give you names of over 30 MTs besides my own that get paid with no problems!! They do not pay if work is late or of por quality but that is told to us before we start. If you did not get paid, your work must have been bad!! They do pay and they do not lie. Amazing when people get so upset with a company for not being paid...is usually the MTs fault!! This blog doesn't show that though.
Review in great detail with the company first....
xx
There's a great company called Plantogen out of New Zealand.

I just want to add that I work for an AWESOME company with great staff and
:)
(Actually, Company-Board isn't that great a place to look for jobs -
No mssg.
no i don't love being MT but it beats McDonalds. no i don't work for a great company.
no raises and constant shift in management. no i don't make more than enough money to just pay my bills but i have cut down on overhead of regular job outside of the home.
it's an okay job relatively speaking.
Agree! This company is great! Fast service. Big selection. Willing to help, too. nm

Great company but like everyone else they over hire. Haven't had work since before Christmas *sm
because it is a slow time and I refuse to get up at 4:00 a.m. to beat someone else to it. I am in the process of obtaining a second and third account and am going to start looking out for myself from now on. I now understand why there is such a turnaround with MTs and companies - seems like the companies overhire and then the MT has to look elsewhere - they work at the new company for awhile until they find that they have now over hired and then they look elsewhere. I have been with MDI for a few years and I plan to stay there but I am going to take on another job or even two so I do not sit idle when times are slow.
I know of a company who is restarting up their mentoring program for newly-graduated MTs. A GREAT
company to work for - I think they are independent contractor status, though not sure about their mentoring program status. At any rate, they are willing to take new grads and help them transition into actually working! The women who owns the company is truly wonderful. I have been blessed to have had the opportunity to work with her, though I don't at the moment. The company is Accu-Stat in Wisconsin! Keep that name somewhere on a sticky or something! Really great people, and she did mention that she really wants to restart this program she used to have for newbies! Blessings to you and good luck! Have fun! Cause it sure can be fun, while having to work, which, of course, is not fun in and of itself, huh?? Oh, to be independently wealthy. Congrats on your new baby, by the way!! And that's SO great that your Mom is there for you! You have a good example to follow!
do we have to purchase a
Do independent contractors working from home have to have a business license to work from home? Please help as this issue has been raised. Thanks for any help!
Where did you purchase? sm
I bought one from Exprescribe like that and never could get it to work.
Does anyone know if you can purchase
a C-phone locally or you have to get them on the web? I am freaking out. A little bit of water got spilled on mine and the buttons will not work now. I let it dry out overnight and it seems fine when you plug it in, but none of the buttons will work!
Does anyone know where I can purchase sm.
VoiceScribe program? I am offered a position with a company but they only give you a 30-day trial for this program - then after that you have to purchase license for $600. I just can't afford that right now. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
definitely purchase something
I got a Brother fax machine several years ago at Office Depot for around $80 or so. I later got an HP all-in-one in 2005 at Sam's. I don't remember what it cost, but it's worth it if you'll be faxing regularly. Some of your clients may prefer a scanned version.
You could also compare on-line fax capabilities, which seems to be more current, for obvious reasons. I can't remember the details, but I've heard it advertised on talk radio.
Just a thought, especially if you'll be doing this regularly. Places like the UPS Store, etc. charge a good bit to fax, not to mention the inconvenience of leaving the house to do it.
Me too. Let me know if you find it. I will purchase it also. I also don't know whether or not
Good luck.
Need to purchase cphone
Help! I am trying to get started transcribing at home and I have work to do but I need advice on what type of transcribing phone to purchase. I have been instructed by my current employer to by a cphone that dials into an automated system to retreive my work. Please, any advice or if anyone has one for sale. The cheaper the better or I will buy used. Thanks.
It is normal to have to purchase your own
provide the PC. Some will provide the foot pedal if you do not have what is required. Some companies give you the option of renting their equipment. It all depends on the company, but yes you will have to have your own resource books.
Anything you purchase for your transcription
You might want to check out some of the earlier posts here as the tax issues have been discussed. You would probably gain information in that respect. Also, you might want to have an accountant/tax preparer for your first year. Some say, you can copy the next year from that first year, but I personally believe in having my taxes prepared for me as these guys are up on things, ya' know. Most definitely though you will want to get your own freestanding PC because down the road you may want to gain some of your own accounts, so you will need that. You will be fine. Some of these people act like you out to take their job or something??? Go figure. There is always one bad apple in the bunch, right? I learned that in grade school. Best wishes in your endeavors....
Because of scammers, if you purchase a new pc,
and want ALL the CDs, you are going to have to make a verbal request.
Yes, you can purchase an adapter just about anywhere
that sells computer accessories, such as Radio Shack, Best Buy, CompUSA (online only now), etc.
Research and purchase best available. NM

Here's the link to purchase it
https://textware.securesites.net/order/it-order.htm
If you already have version III, you can upgrade to V for about half the cost.
Is it a program you have to purchase? nm
nm
LOL - but the poster is asking to purchase
the company provided PC?
Individual MT usually has to purchase it ..
