write offs when working out of the home
As an independent contractor, where can I go to get a list of what I can write off legally when working from home?
TIA.
KSM
If you like to type (fast), are fascinated by medical field, enjoy working solo, you will be fine.
You may have to go through three jobs (over several years) to get to the big money. Best to chose a specialty which you find intriguing and tends to pay well (surgery, radiology perhaps).
It's healthy to enjoy some alone time. You'll adjust and enjoy it soon.

Happy to be working
I work for a national company and two local docs, and the local docs are angels. One's a physiatrist who called me last summer and asked me to work for her, saying she would buy whatever equipment necessary to let me transmit electronically. She speaks clearly even if her grammar isn't the best, she says "thank you" often and appears really grateful for our working relationship. The national company is good as well - leaves me alone to do my work unless I screw up. I love my job!
hey...it's my birthday too! Happy Birthday! Enjoy! nm
Relax and enjoy every bite!
I just started working for them and am very happy so far. nm

Office politics. That is why I enjoy working at home. In the office,
people are in other people business. Just mind your own business.
Buy if from your husband. Have him write you a receipt. Write it off completely or
depreciate it over a few years.
GO FOR THANKSGIVING!
You asked for opinions, so I'll give you mine. I know you have decided you won't go, but here is my take on that issue. You may not like your stepmother or her children. But your father is still your father. My Dad died just over 2 years ago. What I wouldn't give to have him back just for a Thanksgiving Day. You can get over your personal issues with your step family for the weekend and go and be with your father if you choose. Or you can let these "issues" get to you and choose not to go. Your father won't be here forever. None of us will. Love him while you can. Love yourself enough to be big enough to go and see him. You will never regret that. You WILL regret one day that you didn't go, and you won't be able to change it. You DID ask for opinions. That's all. Please reconsider. You don't have to stoop to your stepmother's level. Be the bigger person. LOVE YOUR DAD WHILE HE IS STILL HERE!!!! Be THANKFUL for him.Off my soapbox. Peace.
Thanksgiving
I am a newbie at this and so far no one has said anything about working Thanksgiving. Do most companies just expect you to work if you are an IC. I work for a small company in Florida and have not received any e-mail or anything about what I do tomorrow - should I e-mail them or just assume I do not have to work. Thank you.
Thanksgiving
I kkow that a paper route doesn't really count...but if Thanksgiving falls on a regular day, (which it does) then I am expected to "work" that day.
Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Thanksgiving
Thank you very much. I actually found a pretty good sample. I also found some sites in archives.
Thanks (once again) to all you kind MTs.
Anyone else stressed out by Thanksgiving?
It seems like there is always SOME sort of drama going on in my family whenever we get together - we're somewhat dysfunctional, LOL. I always find myself dreading the holidays and I hate that - I should be looking forward to being with my fam (mainly my four sisters). They seem to always be in a state of crisis or jealousy whenever I see them. ARGH. Anyone relate?
I wouldn't wait, since Thanksgiving is such...
a good time to show the house. All during the holidays, with families visiting and such, is a very good time for homes to sell.
It is absolutely HER job to show your house. She should also only be bringing pre-qualified buyers. She should also abide by your request regarding when the house may be shown. After 3 is certainly not unreasonable, assuming you aren't including weekends in that. Many buyers are out and looking earlier on weekends.
In any case, I would call her broker and change agents NOW, if I were you. Why waste another few weeks, or even days, when it is only delaying the sale of your home.
Just my opinion.
Why I'm still married - a Thanksgiving story
Not much to many maybe, but my husband still surprises me sometimes.
He works 3rd shift as a dock supervisor at a local shipping company that's only about a mile from our house. He doesn't like to think of himself as "supervisor" because he's always been a team player.
Because they load trucks to ship out the next morning, he had the night before Thanksgiving off, but had to go in at 8:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving night. "Lunch Break" is right around midnight and he found out that one of the younger single guys hadn't had Thanksgiving dinner because he had to stick around to go to work instead of going to visit family.
So I hear a bit of commotion in my kitchen around 1:00 a.m. and find that my husband had brought the guy to the house and had warmed up Thanksgiving Dinner for their lunch break.
Now isn't that just too sweet?
Of course they left me the dishes, but oh well.
Belated Thanksgiving thought
Thank you to MT Stars for not only being willing to let us express our opinions, but also for not censoring them. This bulletin board has more frank and direct information regarding working conditions and companies as an MT that without MT Stars, there would be a lot of wool pulled over MTs eyes. This board is 100 times more valuable than paid boards, because paid boards are so worried about stepping on any toes.
and a bountiful blessed Thanksgiving to YOU as well. nm

Same here. Enjoy.
I enjoy VR
I work on the eScription platform for MDI now, formerly for Transcend (the eScription VR work moved to MDI). From what I understand, Transcend is continually adding new accounts and needs more people to staff them, for the most part. I'm curious what company/platform you are doing VR for/on? I have made more money using VR, personally, and, as you say, with much less wear and tear on my hands/wrists.
So far I enjoy it
I have worked outside the home and got tired of office politics and dealing with supervisors on power trips etc. I wanted more control over my life. I decided to become an MT which allowed me have that and have been working as an MT for 4 1/2 years now. I enjoy the work (except for those difficult dictations), enjoy working from home and enjoy the flexible hours. I have made more money working as an MT than I ever had before. I find the work challenging. I know there is a lot for me to learn and I am trying to build on my experience and hope to continue in this line of work for as long as I can.
I enjoy....sm
Psych and ER, because they are interesting. Also like H&Ps, d/c summaries, and family practice.
Dislike neuro, especially with a thick accent .
Then enjoy! sm
My favorite is microwave movie-theater butter popcorn and SnoCaps or M&Ms! Anything in moderation is not bad. I do this just about every month and am not overweight either. Plus, did you know your metabolism rises during *that* time of the month? Eat up :)
Yes - enjoy .12
I make much less than I did 10 years ago - due to Microsoft Word versus WordPerfect and the fact that you have to look up "every little thing" on the internet to complete a report. No one wants blanks and because of the internet they think you should be able to find every doctor on God's green earth, their address and the number of children that they have - as well as business names and addresses, relatives, etc. all done through Google or some other search engine which takes time out of your actual transcription. There used to be people in the office who would take care of these things and now the Transcriptionist is expected to do it. I can never get a good flow going anymore because of having to stop and look up names and addresses, etc. I would be happy with .12 and just wait for the day that your job goes to India - as they are all doing.
i enjoy it
went thru a rough time last summer when they went to VR, but i went out and sold myself and became an editor. they have since thrown in the towel and dictating again. i have too much work now, but i am not complaining. last paycheck i made $1100 so it is worth what i put into it.
I enjoy it too.
Does anyone here ENJOY their job?
Does anyone on this board actually enjoy doing med tran? It seems like all everyone does on here is complain about how bad it has gotten and how they hate it. I just want to know if anyone feels the opposite and still enjoys mt'ing?
I enjoy my JOB, just not how bad the pay has gotten.

Enjoy, eat up and be merry
Prostelysing bothers me. Keep your god to you and everything is fine. Start telling other people it is okay to do something cause *god* says so, then it isnt fine. That kind of stuff belongs on the religion board. Arguments for blacks in the back of the bus, blacks not being allowed to vote, nothing wrong with smoking, drinking, not letting women vote. All of these were thought of as right years ago. We, thankfully, evolved and realized they were wrong and changed them. Same thing with killing animals. IMHO and in millions of others opinions, it is wrong and one day, we will look back in horror. Already so many young people are vegetarians, more so than when I went to school. Im amazed. I have three friends who each have sons. All four of those sons are vegetarian and they are educating and enlightening their mothers about the healthful ways of eating and ethical and kind way of living. Not to harm, tread on this earth softly. So, once again, have a feast..enjoy. Actually, the animals are getting their revenge through disease spread by eating meat. I talked to one thoracic surgeon I used to work with and he said meat eating, especially red meat, contributes to heart disease, plaquing, high cholesterol, gallstones, gallbladder disease and he said that was just the beginning, much more. But, hey, this is America. We can make our own choices. So enjoy. It is just a post about animal cruelty. If it bothers you and your gods teaching, then dont read it.
enjoy it while it lasts
i received letter from MQ stating all ASR work will now be paid at 80%. Yippee! Is the client paying less for ASR work? Is the cost of living going down 20%?
ready to retire
i enjoy your posts
you seem to have your head on straight
lol, im sure no one would condemn you for that, enjoy

Muy bueno! Enjoy some for me!
That sounds goooooood.
I'm a little ashamed to say....just I enjoy going to
I know this isn't as exciting as the other posters, but honestly...just going to the beach and relaxing is great for me!! :>
I enjoy going to them and hosting
but then again, I used to sell Homemade Gourmet, so I was one of those that counted on someone hosting a party. Never tried to make any feel like they had to though...
