I don't think this was a good place to look for a laugh at a student's expense, even though I suspect you weren't intending to be mean or condescending. We were all there once.
After 30 years in this business, much of it in QA and QA management, I've gone back to transcription and I am still learning things from my QA people. Humiliating at times, yes! But its all a learning process.

I can't stand it if I accidentally forget to put mine on. I can usually tell pretty quickly if I do. Just not comfortable to me (or anyone else around probably).

I get an attachment that is called winmail.dat but I can't open it. What can I do?

When someone uses Microsoft Outlook to send messages through the Internet with attachments and they use the Microsoft Outlook Rich Text format, some recipients report that the message includes an additional file called the Winmail.dat file. The Winmail.dat file is usually very small, but you cannot open it in the message. The original message attachment is not always separate from the Winmail.dat file attachment, and may be included in the Winmail.dat file attachment.
This problem occurs because the Winmail.dat file is used to preserve formatting that the sending client includes in the message, but the receiving client does not recognize the Winmail.dat file. In Outlook, the Winmail.dat file includes Rich Text Formatting (RTF) instructions. This type of formatting is used with the Microsoft Outlook Rich Text format and when you use Microsoft Word as your e-mail editor. Only other Outlook users can read the attachments.

To resolve this problem the person sending the attachments with Outlook needs to do the following:
1. On the Tools menu, click Options and then click Mail Format.
2. In Compose in this message format, click to select Plain Text, and then click OK.

Hope I am on the right board...
Does anyone know if there is an MT association in Georgia. I have been searching without success. Any help would be appreciated.
I hope everyone on this board isJOKING about ...
working at WalMart! I won't even shop there any more. They pay low and drive out other retailers because their overhead (wages) are lower. Takes too long to qualify for their lousy health insurance.
However, the reason I won't shop there is because they fired my son when he was out sick with mono and Strep throat! Doctor's note and all FORBIDDING him from working until he was not contagious. He went back to work on the day the doctor allowed only to be told that he was fired because he PERSONALLY had to call in EVERY DAY that he was off stating that he was not going to be in. (He had his wife call in when he had no voice.)
There is no law against this in most states ('at-will' states), and, in fact, if you are not on a contract or covered by a union, employers can let you go any time they want no matter if you worked there 30 years. I know, we saw a lawyer, and there was nothing he could do.
The Word board doesn't have much traffic for
many reasons. Some of us are tired after working our own shifts and don't want to feed answers to people who are equally as capable of looking them up as we are. I use entirely Internet based references. If I have that free access to references, so does everyone else on these boards. From my own experience, it's easier and faster to look my questions up myself. In addition, I learn more from doing my own research. If I can't find it, I flag it and send it to QA. That's their job, not the job of those of us here. Word board answers aren't always accurate either. Finally, people are ungrateful if nobody answers their questions quickly enough. That's why I stopped going there. Grumpy little untrained newbies giving tongue lashings because we didn't do their work for them quickly enough. Half of them can't say thanks either. It's sink or swim out there. People have to figure out how to do for themselves.

thread complaining. OH, I forgot this thread. Make that 2. I don't think that's so bad. Besides, people have to vent. Imagine if every time we got mad at our husbands or kids we just quit. Wouldn't work out too well.
If you had read this board, you might would have
thought differently. I just saw 1 person posting the other day and had stars in her eyes about the future of transcription even when others saying how it has gone down over the years. If I were younger and had just started, I think I would weigh very seriously the postings here, knowing they have experience in how this job has gone from 1 of being able to raise a family on to 1 of just chump change basically.

It discussed not having health insurance any more, not being an employee, having 2 IC jobs, etc. You speak of this as the CURRENT/FUTURE situation, not in the past. I know the subject of Keystrokes not hiring ICs has been addressed many times on this board.
I don't mean to make you defensive, but you posted pretty much 2 separate messages about a single job and they give conflicting information. I'm just confused.
Look down this board and read the thread titled
"How to make money MT'ing" by Dano. It is excellent advice. It should help you a lot. Also on about page 4 or so there are a couple of threads that discuss how some of the higher producers get their production, hints and tips on expanders, macros, etc.
You can do very well at this line of work if you want to and really appy yourself!!
How do you do a search on this board - my topic will never come up and I know I have read about it

Are you a new MT or a student? sm
Your first post said you were a new MT, the last post you said you were a student. If you are indeed a new MT then finding someone to help you with some of the dictation might be beneficial. However, if you are a student and you need help transcribing reports, you definitely don't need to be paying someone to do them for you. Transcribe the reports, leave blanks for what you are unable to understand or for things you cannot document. Submit the reports and await the feedback. That's how you learn. The first and foremost thing is to take some thing that you can understand and research that. You will be amazed at what you find when you look for it.

I understand that last question and mine is heck no, no one really to ask = QA does not sit and wait for calls, takes too long to get back from MTstars, finished with report by then, just have to suck it up and hope for the best.
As a student MT I can tell you
that in my program we have learned generic meds are to be in lowercase.
If you're not already looking the meds up through a drug reference website, it might be quicker than a book. Most often I only check the book when I'm really stumped.
