I heard they were not nice to work for. Knew people who have worked there and left.

This is secondhand information, but I trust the people that told me this.

Let me add though, the people there were awesome and very nice!! I wish it would have worked because

RE: I used to work for Freedom Type - VERY nice people - didn't do VR, just straight typing (nm)

I knew one that worked 18 hours a day and had a stroke
and could not work for a long time after that. We have to be so careful in this business.
I was nice today, and people were nice to me.
If you steer away from the nastiness, there are a few nice and encouraging posts in there.
DSG was very nice to me, but I left because of the damned DQS software eating all the lines! nm

I worked for them 5 years (left in October).
I enjoyed working for them. I was making a more than comfortable living with them. I had good steady accounts and a wonderful management team.

I worked on the 3.5 CTS (former Total eMed) platform.

Your question, however, is not specific enough for you to receive sound information on.

Beware of anyone who makes vague gripes. Complaints that are legitimate have specifics in them.

One person's opinion of what is good or bad is not another's.

Rude people? I hardly think so. They are some of the nicest people I have ever worked with. sm
Not just management, but QA as well. No one is rude. They are a very understanding staff. There is one account that is hard but all it takes is getting used to it. Once you are used to it, it is no harder than any other ESL account that you would do anyplace else. I have heard all these things about TH from the archives and I have yet to come across rudeness or any kind of thing that I have read about in the archives. I would definitely pursue them if I were you. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
The political people knew what could happen if a hurricane hit New Orleans. sm
after 9/11 they diverted the money for the war.  One should not take money from one project to do another.  This tragedy didn't make any sense and there are some people on the political board that says its the mayor fault.  What a joke.
I knew McDs was testing using centrally located people sm
for the drivethru, but this is ridiculous and disgusting.  What are these companies thinking?  Sheesh.
Never heard of Level Cross but nice to "meet" you
    .
Wouldn't it be nice if it worked out that way?!

Also add in the time needed to fill in any demographic info, research correct spelling of doctors names, addresses, or any odds-n-ends like that and whammo, that 1 hour of dictated minutes has turned into a 4-hour long day.  I'd so much rather do long reports than a bunch of dinky little 1 or 2 minute ones because I sometimes spend that much time alone just maneuvering around a hospital's operating system or filling in demographics.  Long reports I can almost type out in real time.

I worked there briefly, and also heard rumors sm

of people not being paid.  Not sure what benefits you are talking about, as they hire ICs only, or at least that was the practice in the past.

I left because of the unfair way they count lines.  They use Bayscribe, but do not count spaces.  They add in 15%, but it still ends up being a lot lower.  The accounts are easy -- clinic work, no ESLs -- but still I only did 150 lines per hour there, compared to 300-350 plus at MDI-MD.  Also, the QA person I dealt with was rather snippy and rude.  that coupled with the substantially lower pay rate (8-1/2 cpl, I think) -- why stay?  Fortunately, I did get paid, although when I left I did send Deb an email telling her about the rumors I had heard and that I did expect to be paid.

    Good luck, whatever you decide.

I see them all, too. Some people seem to be missing headings from the blue bar on the left. nm

Has anyone here ever heard of, trained on, or worked on Emdat? Any information?

I think it is nice of her to help other people...sm
Nothing wrong with that. Also I guess she has been doing this long enough maybe she is confidant in herself. I don't see anything wrong with that. I don't think shs is braggin on herself. Sometimes it just ticks you off when you have someone over you who acts like you don't know what you are doing.
Nice people, but pay is bad plus no pay for spaces.
Yes they also offshore. They are not very flexible.
    Amphion People are Nice
Hi. I don't work for Amphion, but I know a couple of people who do. They are both in management, and they are really, REALLY nice people. Do you have an interview for an MT position? If so, you'll be just fine! The thing that matters most as an MT is your ability to decifer what's dictated and type it accurately!!! :)
    Nice to see people care
I am relatively new to this site, but from reading the posts it seems like there are several negative people out there who probably don't care about the person you are writing about.  Unfortunately, I did not read her post and I don't know where she is, but I hope for her sake she is okay.  I have been troubled to the point of not wanting to be here anymore, but I was able to get help, and now I am doing great.  I just wanted to thank you for caring.    If you should here from here, please let us know.
I have heard many people say that, which is the
main reason I haven't purchased it.
You all are a pretty nice bunch of people, you know.
Donating to the kids of fellow MTs, taking the time to email people and encourage them on how to be better MTs.  I'm really touched.  This month has been pretty rough but y'all are certainly putting the reason for the season out there.  You'll never know how much one email can impact somebody's day.
Very nice people.. but log sheet is very tedious! nm
    .
    Nice people, good price
Well, thank you for that. It's about time we get some decent service and good prices on equipment for the work we do. Maybe things are changing for the better. Do ya think????
It's nice to see so many people on here moving to better jobs!
There seems to be an increasing trend on here.  I know there are still a lot of unhappy MTs out there, but more and more every day I am seeing MTs who go ahead and get out of their dead end jobs.  I am so happy for all of you.  Just made a move myself recently and I am so much happier.  When you get up every day and hate going to work and your life is miserable - it no longer matters how long you have been there.  It is not worth it.  This business is constantly changing and we have to change with it, hopefully for the better.  For whatever reasons, in the last 6-8 months there have been an enormous amount of unhappy MTs because of the changes being made at these companies.  Therefore, the amount of resumes and applications being submitted to job posts have also been enormous as I was told by the recruiter that hired me.  Hopefully that will settle down soon and those of you who have been unable to find a better job will have much more success.  Don't give up though, it just may take a little more time.  Congratulations to all who have landed better jobs and good luck to the rest.  We're pulling for you.
I have heard that people don't realize how...
socially demanding those kinds of birds can be.  They NEED attention, they CRAVE attention, and they get mad if they are ignored.  They can be very demanding.  I would research that aspect before diving  in.  Too many people have to get rid of parrots because they can't handle them.
Have heard hosp.pay people to sit with pts.
    x
I agree because I have heard this from many people - sm
Husband as the doctor and wife as the office manager is often a recipe for disaster.  I have seen it work a time or two, but more often than not they have this arrangement to save a few bucks and the wife has NO idea about office management, but guess what?  Hubby/doc is too busy seeing patients and she runs the show, with often disastrous results.  I say run while you can...PLENTY of places looking for qualified medical help with fewer hassles too most likely.
Pay is average, benefits are expensive, but seem like nice people.
    nm
why do people want to turn nice things dirty?
I am so sick of people like this that just seem to ruin everything.  This is how it all starts!!!! I love that this is a place I could be with my fellow MTs since I work at home.  This is like my office!!!   I love that our mod is looking out for us.  THANKS!!!!
I heard it was awful, by numerous people who saw it.
    x
Yes, I have worked for the same people
At one time or another, you will have where they do not pay right away.  You may have to wait.  It has happened on every single account I do.  I am sure others will agree.  You have to consider holidays as well.  Now I do all clinic work so Mon-Fri hours come into play, but even at a hospital with 24-hour patient care does not mean the administrators give 24-hour support.  I use my savings account for back-up.  I am in a situation however where I do not need benefits and I am not the sole breadwinner in my family.  Just some things to consider.  There are others I'm sure that will admit to the fact that when they are an IC with their own accounts, you must chase your money down.  There are stories also that the IC has never been paid at all for months on end.  If I quit because the pay was late, I would never have any accounts.  Unfortunately when you IC and are not an employee, you almost always get paid last.  They will pay their employees on a regular basis or they will get in trouble with the IRS.  So, which is worse?  Being paid a little late or constantly looking for new accounts?  A new account means you have to put a lot of time in unless you are super-MT and have no problems taking on new accounts with their particular formatting and audio.  That's why so many stick with what they have because there is a learning curve.  JMO.
Durn I wish I knew how easy it could have been..I never would have taken this work hard next to

Heard on the news last week about people leaving
the country for medical care/dental treatment.   A man went to some Eastern European country for dental care.  Even with airfare it was cheaper there and that many other countries, including India, were starting to market themselves as a place for affordable healthcare for foreigners.
I've heard people have to try a new food 10 times before they know for sure they won't like it
    I heard that somewhere.

I had a SIL who actually SAT on her young children and force-fed them new foods if they refused them at the table. We were appalled, but weirdly, the kids often got up from the floor and happily ate the food they were just force-fed!
I worked at Sonic and people do tip...
usually about $1 back then. I always tip and I tip 1$. I was very young when I worked there, but I had other people working there that had families. Minimum wage isn't anything. Just my opinion though. I also never got snooty though when someone didn't tip me. I think a lot of people don't think to.
Lots of people worked up to it.
They got it going and then used it for maybe 1/2 hour one day. Then used it a bit longer the next and so on, until they were using it exclusively.

Another way is to create a glossary with the stuff in your current Expander so that you get used to using it with familiar phrases. Then you can add to it as you get better. That's what I did. DO use the marker keys though, rather than the spacebar to expand. That takes a bit of getting used to, but it is so worth it later on to be able to get full use of all of IT's features later. :-)

I have worked with people who have requested
to be off certain accounts because of their religious beliefs and not wanting to transcribes procedures they were not comfortable doing, but not because the doctors were too hard.

I personally have almost 30 years in this business and still have trouble with certain docs, but others do them without problem. There is almost always 1 or 2 doctors on an account that nobody wants to do for variosu reasons, but I just stick it out and believe that it will make and has made be a better MT in the long run.
My people skills are just fine. I just want to hire people who want to work.
I've not been ugly, I've asked questions, legitimate ones.  Please tell me what is wrong with that.  This site is not just for MTs, it is for QA Editors, Supervisors, Service Owners, there's even sections for Billers, Coders, and Nurses.
I have heard so many people rationalize cherrypicking and seen too many supervisors not deal with i
It's a scourge on this profession ... like the folks who gratefully accept absurdly dreadful line rates because -- "it's better than nothing"

It's why we're all making LESS than we did 10 years ago, 15 years ago ... made worse because that's even without adjusting for inflation ...
I don't know! I've heard people live longer with a healthy sex life.

oh good grief. Haven't we heard enuf of this? Educated people are just

I've worked for companies that needed people
specifically to do certain reports.  I have been hired to exclusively do ERs and discharge summaries before.  It wasn't cherry picking either.  They needed someone to catch up their backlog and keep the reports within TAT permanently.  Evidently, other people were cherry picking and bypassing these report types because they're not as good of money makers as Ops or H&Ps.
I do. I've worked closely with these people for years,

I know a lot of people it helped (I worked in a doctor's office) SM
BUT you have to really want to quit before you start it. It doesn't make you want to quit - it just helps you w/ the depression and the withdrawal symptoms that come along w/ quitting. Good luck.
2 people to do that amount of work, is she nuts? More like 20+ people - nm

I've had people tell me that I would need to wait to have my questions answered until I worked...

for them.  What???  How would I know if I want to work for them if they don't answer my questions.

    Go figure.

    reason I left graphic work...
My husband had a massive stroke several years ago and I just could not handle working outside the house and taking care of him, so I learned MT so I could stay home with him. I have continued to do the graphic work on the side since, but he is finally to where he can handle me not being at home, but he still seems disappointed that I won't be at there. I guess I am going to have to make my pros and cons list and figure out what I am going to do. Thanks.
Has anyone actually left MT to work at Burger King?
I am just about ready to throw in the towel.  Just wondering if others have left MT and worked at Burger King or places like that?  Thanks!
any chance they are hiring? I did work for an office that got ate up by MQ..but I had just left.

Leaving work at work is nice, but
department, vacations are hard to come by.  We had rules at our hospital where you couldn't take a week at a time or they gave you a hard time about certain times of year to take off.  Also, management doesn't really like you having a "life outside" and will think that you should stay late or come in early to complete Dr. Whozeewhatzee who really can't dictate when he's supposed to so please to keep him happy come in at 5:30 a.m., complete the dictation, so it is ready for him to sign at 6:30 a.m.  Are you catching my drift?  Meanwhile, the other stuff gets backed up and then you have all of these doctors clammering.  Oh, and don't think you can talk to others around you because you will get "the stare" as if you should be constantly typing and never take a break.  Sorry, but that's the sweatshop I did for 17 years; never again.  If I go back to an office it will be to answer the phone.
Local clinic sent all work to the Phillipines one sunny day. Left their MTs
It is not only India. I really cannot say there is an answer other than find politicians who feel as deeply about the "Employ America" slogan as the American worker and American business owner who is a patriot.
PS.. It apparently worked..I heard back and already submitted the paperwork back.

I'm not sure how many people they are hiring but you shouldn't stress too hard over it. Do the best you can.
