Same thing here. I have chronic tinnitus and hear crickets
when it gets really really acute with sinusitis to go with it. People think I am crazy when I tell them I hear crickets but that's what it sounds like.
Ya know, winter doesn't officially start until tomorrow

And, I'm already tired of the cold,

tired of all the snow,

but my kids love it and I can't move.

Then consider the heat bill.....now I'm crying

Annoying crickets sm
You know, I love summer with the sounds of birds and all that, but this cricket outside my window is driving me absolutely batty.  GRRR.
How long do crickets live in the house?
There is one in my basement somewhere that will not shut up!
I have lizards, so always have crickets chirping in my house...
it drives me crazy, but my babies have to eat. LOL.
chronic illness
God bless you.  I have systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and I still work full time, I have a friend diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and she still works full time..Hang in there, honey..You can live with a chronic illness..I have lived with my SLE for 36 years and my friend with multiple sclerosis for 10 years..
Chronic Yawner!

Anyone ever have to put up with a chronic yawner who dictates during/through a yawn? How could anyone be THAT tired? Life must be tough when you make more than +$250,000 a year--poor thing--wish I could get that exhausted!

Chronic chapped lips
This seems so goofy --- go to the dermatologist for chapped lips?  I have had this problem consistently for the past couple of months.  I haven't been sunburned.  My lips are swollen (love the swelling - looks like collagen!  LOL!)  and chapped, can't get enough chapstick (no MQ jokes - LOL).  I read this could be a malignant of premalignant condition and I should see a dermatologist!  Wow!  Anyone have any insight into this problem?  Thanks in advance!
I have a chronic pain condition as well
It is giving me a break right now so I won't talk too much about it so I don't wake it up.:) This is my first relief in 10 years from severe RA which seems to have been in every joint at one time or another. So, totally understand your emotions on needing to feel like a useful member of society and take care of your responsibilities. Before RA, I worked for 17 years. I did try the disability route and was denied 5 years ago 5 times! Never tried again. I didn't want to then but to help the husband with the bills, I thought it was best and it would have been good for the marriage as well.

The hips keep me from sitting long periods, but you have MT companies who will work with you. One I work for now wants at least 800/lines per day but prefers 1000+. However, mentioned it was okay to break frequently as long as when the MT is on that the MT is very productive. So you might have a longer work day than the other MTs. However, there is hope. I would say even with your nursing background and good grasp of medical terminology and anatomy/physiology, you should still find a program in transcription or a good mentor or both. My heart goes out to you. I thought of nursing and my condition is the only reason I didn't go for it, but it is in demand, that and technology jobs are in demand also. I try to stick with the jobs that are in high demand.

I am going to try to leave a web site for you to take a look around that will give you an idea of what companies expect an MT to know:

http://www.hpisum.com/home.ihtml

You will have to cut and paste the address in the address box, but there is a lot of information there. Other posters may have more information for you. Best wishes.
Can you get cancer from chronic mouth

I have a wisdom tooth that is coming in. I do NOT do well w/ dentists/anesthesia, etc...well a few months back i had an appointment to have this removed.  long story short even though the dentist knew I was freaked out about the local anesthesia he took so long to do the extraction my mouth was no longer numb when the hygenist tested my gum area.  I freaked out, left crying and vowed to never go back to him.  Well now that the tooth is slowly coming in more and more i have an ulcer that seems to be getting bigger from where i am more or less chewing the inside of my mouth.

It doesn't really hurt or bother me that much, i would much rather deal with the ulcer than have another panic attack/heart racing event from the local at the dentist's office.  My concern is this:  Can you develop cancer from a chronic mouth ulcer? My aunt died of oral (tongue) cancer last year so i'm paranoid about it.

Any info you can give is welcom.  Thanks!

I have one PA with a chronic allergy or sinus problem....
which is, of course, not his fault, but makes him very hard to understand.  He has a very deep voice and likes to raise and lower the volume at random.  And at least every other sentence, he says "Excuse me," like he made a mistake, but then just repeats what he said and keeps on going.  He also likes to say, "Delete." a lot.  I think he is even the one who dropped a "F" bomb on me one day.
Just for giggles this winter sm
I used my electric potpourri pot with some liquid potpourri added to the water. I helped out tremendously while adding a nice scent to the air.  It didn't toss out white dust like my cheapie humidifier did and the noise of a running humidifier wasn't there either.  I also put bowls of water in front of the register in both winter and summer for a little humidity.
Winter wonderland in NH
I guess we are supposed to get about 10 inches.  Its awful to say this but I had no idea it was even going to snow, I've been so busy lately working and doing errands that I haven't watched TV.  It was a shock to me when my neighbor called and said the kids were getting out of school early today because of the weather, I looked out side and was like why, it wasn't even snowing :)  Oh well, its the start of my weekend so I guess I can't really complain...stay warm!
It already has. I have to work from home because of disability due to chronic disease.
My physicians and visiting nurses are extraordinarily caring individuals who fortunate have (more so than I had previously thought, apparently).

Also, I can understand venting about a situation you feel you have no control over. I assume you desired sympathy or empathy or just someone to say, "I know where you are coming from," but to post incoherently and then lash out at those that reply is only going to add to your frustrations and negative feelings.

I am sorry you feel as though your health care providers don't care if you did, but I am sure that is not the reality of the situation. If you had taken the time to provide context to your rant, then you might have received the type of replies you were looking for, whatever that may have been.

Best of luck to you.
Nope, it's seasonal. Aug. 31 through winter.

Bells palsy and chronic headaches? Does anyone have any good info or help out there? sm

Unfortunately, I have had Bells palsy for the past 8 years. I got it while pregnant and had a pretty severe case. I was extremely sick with that pregnancy and then ended up with the Bells palsy. In fact, my baby quit growing after I got the Bells palsy! Thank God I was about 32 weeks when I got it. Anyway, over time the symptoms have not been as bad. For the most part to look at me you couldnt tell I had the Bells--until I smiled at you. Then, of course, you would know it. I have regained some use of muscles, but not all. I have been able to get my eye to close, but it is not tight, so I still battle with dry eye every night/morning. My forehead has been completely "dead" since this happened. Even electric stim could not move the muscle! Whenever I get a headache it always seems to settle on the dead part of my forehead. My headaches have been increasing lately, and currently I have had a headache for five days! I have tried Advil, Tylenol and Excedrin Migraine with no relief. My neurologist cant see me until January since I havent been to him for years. I can not afford an MRI right now and have no desire to start taking any type of pain med. Does anyone have any experience with Bells or have any ideas. I was wondering if a TENS unit might help. I have been reading about that on the internet. Sorry this is so long. Thank you for any help. As you can imagine, I am having a very hard time working all day at my computer with this!

agree - many MT's have chronic back/neck/shoulder problems also

YIKES!!!Got our oil contract for this winter and almost passed out!!!

Last year I paid $845 for  600 gal of oil with a 2 months to pay. Yesterday, I recieved our contract for this winter and it would cost $1517!!!!!

Guess who won't be taking the contract.  That's ridiculous. The country is going to go broke at this rate. They want $759 for 300 gallons. That takes us 3 months into the winter, but......where do they think the seniors  and others are going to get this money?

Guess old Mamma Bear is coming out of storage this year. Wood is no problem for us. We have a stockpile for the garage coal & wood stove and a friend that has 11 acres of woods he likes certain areas cleared every year.

I feel bad for others who have no access to another heating source.

Anybody go south for winter and continue working?

Hubby and I are thinking of going south for the first time this coming winter.  I've found some sublets with internet access, mostly wireless, one wired.  My work uses DocQScribe and internet based.   I use a desktop computer for work but have a laptop capable of the job.

Have any of you done this?  If so, what was your experience?  Any tips or precautions as far as wireless internet security?  At home we have a wired network with a hardware firewall/router so no experience with wireless.  I'm not high tech but not a complete novice either.

As for paying bills and accessing cash in a different locale, did you use online banking and ATMs or some other method?  I confess some hesitation about online banking even though most of my friends and neighbors have used it for years!

Thanks to anyone who can help.

We just signed up for our propane for winter.. It's gone up a dollar per gallon...
from last year.  There is no shortage of propane as far as I know.  They just raise the price because they can.  We're paying 1.89 per gallon.  Thank goodness we have 2 wood stoves, but I'm sure a cord of wood will double too. . You can't win.
Space heaters can be very expensive as I found out one winter
by just trying to heat my office and leaving the reest of house cold. The cost to use the space heater was more than the gas furnace would ahve been.
Only during the summer. Wild colored toe socks in winter.
;-D
Work some holidays - don't really mind during the winter months, but
when summer rolls around, I am at the beach on the holidays and do not work them. As an IC, we get nothing extra as far as $$ just the extra work.

Can't complain - have plenty of work all of the time.
i still use my fan even during fall/winter and turn it towards the wall but drowns out noises. nm

I just realized...
When I mentioned I had posted about Sprint's EVDO, I realized I posted that on another forum. LOL Sorry about that. (Didn't want you looking around trying to find that post here.)

I had just asked in that post if anyone knew much about EVDO/Sprint and you pretty much answered my question I had on the other forum. :D It sounds like the way for me to go. Thanks!
Yea I just realized that when I got an
email from someone LOL! Just working at the hospital for 10yrs now I guess outsourcing is the only term I have really heard LOL! I hope & pray our voices get heard on this. I pray I get alot of letters to make an impact!

I frequently regret it, the changes it has made to my life, but when life hands you horror, at least there is this "final solution" to your financial situation. I must admit, I sleep better, and I can finally hold my head up, and I no longer feel hopeless. Find the attorney you can work with, get your free consultation and DO WHAT HE TELLS YOU TO DO. If you have doubts, see a 2nd and a 3rd attorney, till you're comfortable with the person you choose.
How are you planning to deal with the oncoming high winter heating bills?
I'll be bumping the thermostat back another degree or 2, down to whatever leveI I can  not be cold at.  Otherwise there will be less "fun" money spent if it has to go to the oil companies!

I have a gearplayer. Don't know if there is any difference. Sorry.
After one day, it realized MDI wasn't for me - sm

System seemed nice at first but quickly turned out it wasn't.  Someone else I know told me hers kept locking up on her.  You don't have access to your Word entries and if you don't have a compatible shortcut expander, you have to start all over again in theirs.  That stinks.

I found my QA to be very, very picky, over the top, ridiculous things.  I don't think they want people to work for them because it seems you can't do anything right and I'm one who has been in this business a LONG time and no one ever complained about my work before.

I was very disappointed as I had heard good things about MDI-MD.  Just goes to show what is right for one MT is not for another.

Then I realized that no one ever shared with me, I had to
figure it all out, shared with everyone, then the happy cherrypickers would go in and take everything that I had created shortcuts or "normals" for.  I never even got a thank you for furnishing samples.    I do not get paid to help anyone else out, it is my time and resourcefulness and now everyone can fend for themselves.
this happened to me once and I realized
the sound had somehow been shut off or volume on mute down on the task bar...

I know that is probably not it, but it did happen to me once and I thought something was wrong with the pedal. turned out it was just the volume control.

good luck

I was excited until I realized you have to buy this..

A -ha! I should have realized. Thx for responding.

I just realized what I posted above

didn't make a lot of sense if you are going to be working an independent contractor because they don't take out any taxes at all, so changing dependents has no affect at all on your check.

Basically what the IRS is suggesting is just creative bookkeeping and you might come out better today, but come tax time and you reconcile eveything it will probably hurt you.

I want my bread crumbs white so I let them dry up in the open overnight (winter brings low humidity)
a very good way not to waste stale bread (aside from pudding).
LOL, yea I realized that but not getting paid for typing here and
didn't want to burn dinner. Maybe it's psychological. LOL, anyway I agree it was funny, even though I'm blushing!
YES. I wanted to ask company name, but then realized it

Wow! Same thing here. Just now realized tailbone

Just realized how good I've got it.
The company I work for pays for headers and footers, which total 13 lines per report. Given my line rate, I make the "per report" rate before I ever start typing! So everything I transcribe is gravy above and beyond. Sweeeeet.

I love my job.
One thing I have realized since I left MT....sm

is that part of the problem is that the bar has been raised as far as the skillset employees are expected to have these days. For one, computer skills are a given. It is just expected that every, even entry-level employees are proficient with computers, so the computer knowledge an MT has really isn't specialized. As far as terminology, etc., honestly learning everything I needed to know about the installation and government was harder, or as hard, as learning MT. With all the tools and communications available via computer, we are expected to be diverse and understand not only the intricacies of our own jobs but those of all the organizations that affect our jobs.

I had to learn just as many business & financial related acronyms as I did for MT including those unique to our organization, used in the financial/business industry, government/military, etc. Formatting documents etc. for business/government/military is actually harder than for MT. Learning all the financial, industrial, government, military terms, systems, and hierarchies was also much like learning MT. I started in an entry level job and was expected to pick all this up fairly quickly and pretty much on the job with no formal training because technology gave me access to all this information. This is all for a secretary/administrative support position.

My point is that since the last generation was brought up with computers, communications, and access to information so readily available, it has completely changed what is expected of office workers in larger companies. There are no more simple secretary jobs. I haven't been here two years just yet, and I am lead for an office of 50 people, expected to train 3 other clerks/secretaries under me and know everything about at least 25 different programs internal to my directorate and all the terms, acronyms, hierarchies, formatting, etc., etc., etc., related to it from personnel management to budgeting/financing, industrial production, government entities, private industry, etc.

I work with both government and private industry, as far as I can tell those in lower-level jobs are expected to be extermely diverse and well-rounded to support those in the higher-level jobs.  Those in the higher level jobs in some ways get paid more to be "expert" in their field but don't have to have nearly the skill set of the lower level employees. Most of those in higher-level jobs have been around a while, and the lower-level employees could honestly work circles around them. However, it is obvious, and everyone knows it, that as older workers begin to leave the workforce the younger/newer workers are going to be expected to know and do a lot more in the same positions simply because the base skillset of younger/newer workers is stronger and more diverse.

I don't mean to make light of what it takes to be an MT, but the business world has changed so much in the last 20 years that the bar has been raised in larger companies/industries as far as what is expected of workers. An older worker may have held the same position I am in now for 20 years, and she is not expected to have 1/4 the skillset they expect from a younger worker; yet, we get paid the same. They just expect younger workers to be more proficient in computer skills, technology, and information, and if you are not, you won't last long or go very far.
