the poster below I usually get a 20% discount, but you have to call around to find out who will give it to you. My DD had to have an MRI last year and I got a big discount on that too by calling around.
Originally, insurance was intended for hospitalization, not regular doctor visits. I dont know how it evolved into this monster we have now, but it sure has driven the cost up.

Now all of this depends on your own state law: Mold is very prevelant now throughout the entire South, including Texas, due to previous water damage and due to shoddy building practices, including new construction. Insurance companies have had to pay mold claims for years and are now excluding mold in their policies unless higher premiums are paid. Most companies will not insure any home that has had ANY previous water damage claims, no matter how small. Some companies will even drop you like a hot potato come renewal time if you file a water damage claim. Since mold can pop up years after water damage, that is why you are having trouble getting insurance. Should the sellers have disclosed this? YES YES YES! If you can, you should consult an attorney experienced in real estate LAW (not just a closing attorney). You may possibly be able to get out of this contract for nondisclosure. Your house will be blacklisted for as long as it stands. The biggest lesson in all this? If you have water damage and can afford to fix it yourself - then do so. Do NOT file a claim with your insurance company. You are not the first buyer to go through this and you won't be the last.

Unfortunately having been switched to Amherst I havent found this to be the case. I am on multiple
accounts and running out of work and also no extra for holiday pay or weekends so if this is the way MQ plans to go do you honestly think this is better. MQ is pushing TAT to the hilt and that means overloading accounts as they are and of course as always when you do that quality will suffer for sure. So I have not seen this bright side you talk about and others have said the same thing that have been switched.
I bet other insurance carriers have insurance for their employees. Why not Wal-Mart? nm

Good for you!! We are the same as far as paying with cash.
It was (and still is occasionally) hard to be patient and save for what you want instead of using credit, but it is so, so, so worth it!! Nothing like peace of mind and not being "owned" by creditors and employers. Best of luck to you and thanks for sharing. 
Is it unheard of to cash in PTO with national?
I have 75 hours of PTO and wonder if the national I am with (starts with an S and ends with an S) would allow me to cash it in? This thought just occurred to me so will call HR when I have time to but just wondered if anyone has done this and is it an unreasonable request.

my husband passed away in january. I need the promotion or I have to get a second job and I thought to work at home would be good because I still have a 15 year old at home. Oh well, I was trying to get prepared, but God will provide. I'm sure it will all work out. The hospital I work for has been very good to me so I count my blessings there. Thanks!
The difference between a refi with cash out and a
home line is there is a variable rate with a home equity line of credit. The refi with cash out finance rate is 4.625% right now.

Unless you work in a bank or at a cash register,
doubt they would do a credit check. I remember telling my employer during my interview about my Ch13, explaining the surgery, the divorce, the agony...she sat there and then said "we don't do credit checks." This was at a major hospital. Background checks only.

with direct deposit, we are not given the choice to cash it or deny it. Wonder how that direct deposit affects that choice.

For extra cash I just started donating blood plasma SM
to BioLife, owned by Baxter. They pay about $50 a week for this (put on debit card). Does anyone else do this, and what other things like this is anyone aware of? It's not as gross as it sounds, just like giving blood, and they separate your plasma from the blood and give you your blood back.

Docs, like us, have busy family lives. I found that after Hannukah and Christmas (or sometimes with a break from family stuff) they "catch up" on dictation. Hopefully, this is what still happens. I have a son who is a professional and he likes to go in on Christmas Eve morning because it's so "slow" that he can get a lot of paperwork done. So hang in. Another aspect of today's world is that docs are carrying laptops now as is my family PCP and they are all doing their own notes. I think it's a "wait and see" thing, the world is changing and hopefully there is a survival tool for us somewhere. We are all being replaced by technology, sadly. Only time will tell. I was told several years ago that I should go into "scoping" which is kind of like editing, etc., you go into public stenographers machine gibberish and make sense out of it, kind of like making sense out of what comes back from India. I was offered this but refused to clean up someone else's "mess." Everyone should be thinking of alternative ways to get by, it's never easy. It's sad, as I have put a lot of time and $$$ into a profession that doesn't appreciate my knowledge. From your posts, Blondie, you have a good heart. I hope things get better for you. Try to have a happy holiday. How did you make out with those dogs you took in? Did the owner take them back or at least pay you? This may be an alternative few extra bucks for you. Pack years = packs smoked per day x years of smoking - sm
25 pack-years = 25 years of 1 pack a day, or 12-1/2 years of 2 packs a day.
I don't think pack-years applies to someone who smokes only cigars. But I don't know for sure.

Even though I got stuck in a lay off era, I still love the company. They paid well then. The people were nice (exception of 1 person) and if I had the opportunity I would go back again. Fortunately (or unfortunately - depending on how u look at it), I have a great paying job right now, so I am not looking for a change. I do know that at one time, they asked management to accept late paychecks, but never sure of the reason why. My check was never late.

I don't mind doing legal and will do it now from time to time, but be prepared to be totally bored out of your mind.
At least that's the way I feel. I love to transcribe, learned legal in college, went on to get my paralegal degree, etc., etc., but I did temp work when the kids were younger, which was about 90% medical and I would never go back to legal except for once in a while.

Only 3 years away from reaching total years for retirement
but if I had to do this and raise a family, would feel exactly like you do. The pay is terrible compared to what I used to make. I work 32 hours a week, hope to be able to continue even after full retirement age. I have worked on VR now and unless places get to where they really do not care about how their reports look, think they will need MTs. I very seldom do a report and it is 100%, just cannot remember 1 like that and most take a lot more editing. Working now because want to, not have to anymore, thank goodness!!
I dumped my ex 20 years ago, but got lucky 13 years ago
It would take me all night and pages and pages to describe what a bad person my ex-husband was. After six years of putting up with his OCD, verbal abuse and alcohol, I left him the house, took the kids (5 and 1) and didn't look back. That was 20 years ago.
I wasn't looking to get married again, but I did. After 13 years I only complain when hubby doesn't see things my way. :)
My older kids, who were 5 and 1 when I left, are married and have kids of their own now. My husband gets the Father's Day cards. Their "real" father sits alone in the perfect little house I left behind and let him have and he drinks himself into oblivion every night because nobody is "perfect" enough, including his kids and his grandkids that he never sees.
Sad, but true. So glad I smartened up and got out of there when I did.

What is the big deal. Look at your clothes, cars, items in your house. You will see mostly China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan etc., etc. We have not supported our own people like we should have for years now!!!!

When I trained, back years and years ago
We did not have spell checking nor the internet (Google for instantaneous help). OMG, how did we do it? We used Correcting Selectrics with the lift-off tape to correct errors- you only had dictionaries, both English and medical, to look up things so yes we did have to learn to spell all those big longgggggggggg words.
MT: 24 years. Same company: 11 years same co. after buyout.

Worked inhouse for years and years
Inhouse transcription from 1973 to approximately 1992 and we had no downtime for answering the phones and when the physicians came into the room (or others) needing some assistance, just part of the job. I did not feel bad about doing it then and I dont see why you would either. You don’t realize that probably you are making right now more than if you are outsourced, right? You have hourly salary plus incentive. Guess how many of us have that now? Probably inevitable about outsourcing so I would say just enjoy while you can. The pay our here now sinks further and further. I make, for instance, 4 cents a line for voice recognition and 8 for straight. Now, more complaining?

If you don't have insurance (dental, vision, prescription, chiropractic, and some locations medical) and don't have a lot to spend on insurance, ask me what I signed up for if interested.

I work for one of the TOP docs in NYC who is internationally known, so whenever I am sick, he has taken care of me, called in favors from other specialists, etc. The only bill I have to pay is the lab bill. If you work for yourself, that might be a route to go. I even got my bill at NYU Medical Center 75% off!!!
At one time Aetna was pretty good as far as rates for individuals.

UPS insurance
I have sent packages via UPS that I have packaged myself and was still covered under their automatic $100 worth of insurance. I wonder if someone at the UPS store is giving you incorrect information? I had an ebay package damaged and they paid for the item even though I packaged it myself. Can you call the main UPS number and ask someone else?
