because a better offer came along. I have always just been honest, tell them that I've decided to accept another position. I apologize for any inconvenience, ask them to instruct them on how they would like me to return the equipment, and then I always ask that they keep my resume on file. They are usually pretty diplomatic about it. They'd rather you tell them up front than waste their time and yours in training for a job you're not going to be happy with.

That happened to me and I quit and found another company. sm
The name of the game is money. If I can't make any money, I will find a company where I can.
I've gotten my equipment at Exec Communications. SM for link

I've already decided to quit.
I'm just waiting for the phone call to tell me what my MT/ME reward plan will be. Then I will tell them to take a flip flying hike.
I can't handle my base pay being lowered to 7 cents per line for ASR reports.
I feel your pain and I've already QUIT! s/m
After 17 years in this field, the last 10.5 being at home, two weeks ago I just "quit." I have zero discipline, am so burned out, and my whole family has been begging me to get out of the house. I'm a people person, am very out-going, and being cooped up in the house day in and day out, working all night at times has made me irritable and depressed. I actually had to start taking Adderall about a year ago just to try and stay focused. My doctor actually told me that if he had my job, he'd be taking it. When you have to take a drug to do a job, it's time for a change.
I have grown to absolutely detest transcription. Not only has it affected me mentally/emotionally, I am receiving radiofrequency ablation from C2 to T4 due to several back/neck problems. There's no challenge and it's just brain-numbingly boring!
I actually qualify for disability, but I'm only 37. So, I could go back to school with the government paying my tuition. I guess they'd rather pay for a few classes than give me a check every month for the rest of my life.
Even with tuition paid, my husband isn't at all supportive of me going back to school because he wants to build a house...jerk. So, I guess I'll try and find a job in a doctor's office. At least it's M-F, no holidays or weekends.
Good luck to all of you taking that brave step of tossing away the headphones!
I've tried to quit 6 times in the past 6 years but
always went back to it. The longest I've quit was 3 weeks. My mom died from COPD and she had smoked from age 16. She really enjoyed smoking and although we kept trying, couldn't get her to quit until she was on 24 hour oxygen. She told me if she couldn't enjoy anything in life (smoking), why live. She died 3 months later.
I started smoking at 13...you know, the "try it, you'll like it" phase. We both tried to quit when I was 19 but we only lasted a day. There was only cold turkey then.
I've tried the patch (3 weeks off cigarettes), cold turkey, herbal meds, hynosis (only lasted 5 hours), you name it. I've used all the suggestions possible to no avail.
With a cigarette dangling from my mouth, I told my boys never to start smoking because they'd never be able to quit easily. Two took my advice, one didn't. He also tried to quit smoking but failed. He was on Wellbutrin for it.
My husband started smoking at 8 while working in a coal mine. He quit cold turkey 19 years ago. He was smoking almost 4 packs a day and one day he got so disgusted with it, he just threw them out the window of the car. Never touched one since and smoke from other people doesn't bother him.
He told me you really have to have the willpower and just get disgusted enough to quit. There's no other way. I guess I just don't have that willpower.
I've found that most physicians who
dictate at such a ridiculous pace are trying to make up for other deficiencies....you know like "male menopause" where the older guy goes out and buys an expensive sports car, etc., etc. Seems most of the speeders on my account are DOs, NOT MDs.....guess they feel inferior in some way.
I think most recruiters are NOT MTs. They know very little about MT from what I've found. nm

It is in NJ, which I've always found weird. nm

Without a doubt the best I've found!
I searched and searched for someone who could design a small simple site with digital dictation file upload and download capability, and www.sitefever.com made me a great site and maintains it for 40 dollars every month, and for a one time fee of $150 they custom designed what I needed to upload and download my dictation files. They have been great and I have had no problems with them at all.
Hope this helps!
Dawn
I've found files sm
I have "lost" files before and found that sometimes if you click on "start" at the bottom left of your screen that you may find a temporary saved file under documents. Sometimes it doesn't save the whole document, but part is better than nothing. Probably a long shot, but thought I'd mention it.
The only way I've found to avoid this is to.....
have three part-time jobs. I used to have one full time and two part time, but just recently went to three part time.
I NEVER run out of work now, but always have in the past six years in the business. This works for me, but took almost a year to balance the three so I'm not working a ton of hours.
The only solution I've found is....
to just totally quit every so often, get totally out of it and if you find no new way to make money, go back to it. The break helps, but honestly it's happened to me half a dozen times over the 20 years I've done this. It was so challenging when I first started and I enjoyed it. The catch-22 is when you finally get to high line counts it becomes monotonous. What didn't help was when the line rates went into a freeze...kind of kills the motivation to sit there and type. For me, I would get sleep attacks transcribing and would wake up almost falling out of my chair;. More than once, I've quit and said I'm never going back. Now I just quit for awhile but knowing deep down I may be back again. All in all, if you can keep the right attitude, it's a great job that offers a lot of freedom as far as flexibility and freedom to travel around the country and keep a paycheck coming in.;
Yeah, that's where I'm at, too. I've found these
for half the money I used to make. And the work isn't easier, it's harder. I used to do about 8 docs that I knew like the back of my hand. I usually knew what they were going to say before they said it, because their thought patterns had become second nature to me. But now I do several accounts, hundreds of doctors, plus nurses, PA's, med-students, etc. The reports are longer, and it's all straight typing, no templates. Even though I'm home all day, far less gets done around here than before, because I always have to work if I'm going to buy food and pay my rent.
I've found, fortunately, that
those types of people are not the "norm" in the MT world or I would have quit a LONG time. The sad thing though is they are becoming more prevalent lately, but perhaps I'm becoming jaded. I can think of only 5 truly glaring examples in the past 23 years.
I think some of these unpleasant B's are just on power trips because they have a position of "authority" (big deal - I'm certainly not impressed). I always let management know, even if they choose to be in denial or blow it off, I've at least gotten it off my chest and had my say. When I complain to mgmt. I stick to the facts/issues/dates ONLY and there is usually silence on the other end of the line (no arguments) as they are taking it all in. Funny thing though, even after numerous complaints, they seem reluctant to eliminate the offenders.
I've found that it's not just one website
I have found that the manufacturers' websites often show the brand names of the equipment used.
Not every employer or hospital will acknowledge a manufacturer's website as being a legitimate source, but at least the manufacturer often gives you a direction to look in and an idea of how a brand name is spelled.
Here's an example:
http://www.medtronic.com/your-health/bradycardia/device/index.htm
I've found it more lucrative to charge .... sm
... by the report, although others might disagree. $1.10 to $1.25 is average when working as an employee. If you're working as an IC you really should charge more, considering your overhead, etc... and make sure you charge for every report, not page. For instance a report that includes more than one requisition, such as a foot and ankle, would be two reports. If the radiologist is getting paid for each study(which they certainly are), then so should you.
Hope this helps !
I've found the answer and how to declutter.
Get diagnosed with cancer. Got the diagnosis yesterday and today I've been going through the house like the Tazmanian devil. I'm throwing stuff away, boxing stuff up to go to Goodwill and Freecyling some stuff. We were in serious need of a Clean Sweep (though I never would do it because I'd be too embarrassed that I let my house get like that). I know it is a bit of an overreaction, but both of my parents died and didn't have things in order and I was left to deal with it all and don't want the same for my family. I also don't want to look at the clutter anymore and want my house to be relaxing and not be afraid to open my door when the doorbell rings. It also helps keep my mind occupied. I only made a teeny, tiny dent in the clutter, but at least it was progress. I also don't want my kids growing up thinking that our house is "normal." I have boys and I don't think their future wives would appreciate a slob for a husband.
the lightest touch i've every found
was the Kinesis -- they are not cheap but man, i wish i would have found them years ago. Some have said before that the Goldtouch keyboards have a good touch too.
I've found an adapter that has the 2-prongs
and then you plug your headphones into the other end, just didn't want to buy them from TVPS.
I've found nothing has a higher pay level (sm)
all same across the board these days.
I've found you have to work more than 8 hours a day to
If I had to stick to an 8-hour time period, I couldn't afford to continue.
I've moved to 4 different states until I found what I want that pays what I want
The world isn't going to come to you. You have to make some effort yourself.
I've actually found Medicare very easy to deal with...
wouldn't dread the call. It will probably go better with Medicare than with the nephrologist.
I've found it helps soothe the mania and keep me

This is the best site I've found about treating fibromyalgia. It works for me, maybe it will for
I'm lead transcrip for small ofc, in the field since 88, and I've found (sm)
that depending on the person, it can take up to a year. You either have to be very smart and very driven to make it shorter, or you would have to have some exposure to the systems/docs etc. It takes a longer time if you are also new to the field of MT. But after about a year, if you don't find yourself relaxing when you are at work, talk to somebody. That's long enough, and you should be finding a niche for yourself by then.
In our area of NY, I've found that hot summer weekends are terrible...sm
for sales. No one wants to get out of their cars in the heat! Have done best in early spring or in Sept/Oct., here anyway. And a Fri./Sat. combo is more successful than a Sat./Sun. weekend. Have BIG signs at major intersections and showing the way into your neighborhood and right to your house. Run an ad in the Garage Sale section of your paper. Be prepared for early birds coming down your driveway or right into your yard 2 hours ahead of time. Block your driveway with a car or sawhorses until you're actually open, but be ready to say 'come back later' when people show while you're setting up. Have prices on everything or group things by price in one location. Have lots of singles and quarters for change. Bring your phone outside with you. Paper and pen if people want to call you later. Have packing material for glass and china, plastic or paper bags for purchasers. Some hard candy/mints on a table out of sun helps people stick around longer. If you have big jackets, long dresses, bedspreads, etc. put them up for display - on hangers, in trees, strung up between ladders. Try and keep all your displays up at table height - people aren't keen on getting down on the ground to paw through boxes or check out stuff spread out on a bedsheet. Use every card table, picnic table, folding table, etc that you can find for displaying stuff. If you have anything electric to sell, have an extension cord plugged in so people can see that items still work. Keep expensive small items near you at your 'check out' station to keep them from walking away. And always be ready to come down on price as everyone will ask you, "can you do any better?" Or "what's your best price on this?" Enjoy your sale and treat yourself to pizza after all your hard work! :)
I've found this resource pretty useful for rehab work. Link inside.
Have this as one of my bookmarks - found this handy whilst handling rehab work. Hope this helps!

I quit once for 3 years, but then started again. (Quit cold turkey when I did)
Thanks for the honesty
I really appreciate it!! I must say the only reason for doing this is not just my son. I am currently working a job where I make pretty good money, but am bored to death and have no challenges what so ever. I'm not sure if I have any advancement opps there.
I do have experience in the medical field and feel comfortable with medical terminology. I am looking at this as a career change to challenge myself. I know this is no cake walk, it is going to be extremely difficult. I don't expect to make big bucks, I really expect to have a big decrease in my salary......which i'm saving for.
People expect to become MTs and make wonderful money only doing a little bit of work...WRONG!! You are going to have to work long hard, sometimes frustrating hours to earn your dues. You must be consistent, it's not for an unmotivated person. You have to be a self starter and have somewhat of a passion or drive to really make it.
Even if I don't decide to become an MT now, i'm sure it's something I will pursue in the future. Possibility once my son is school age.
So you want honesty
I believe I have been honest if you look at all my postings. Sure I'm letting people know about the discounts, I posted the websites to find docs. I'm not trying to recruit people real hard because I just got started in the broker business myself. And as far as the MT stars terms of service. I wouldn't call me trying to help people as advertising, which was my whole goal in the first place. I am a medical Transcriptionist working from home and if it wasn't for my husband's insurance I would have none and definitely would jump on the Ameriplan discount program. So I can relate to other MTs working at home and are looking to save money on costs. So don't talk to me like you know me, because you don't.
Thanks IC for your honesty! (nm)
:)
In all honesty, I think you, yourself, have some
doubts, and thus your posting not just to 'cry on our shoulders'. So, perhaps you should listen to your heart and that little nagging voice that's telling you something isn't quite right here. You know the details of your life - follow your gut feeling, which is that something just isn't quite right about this.
Honesty?
Honesty. I wish companies would just be honest with you right at the beginning of your interviewing process. If you can not promise steady work, just tell me please. If your interpretation of the AAMT BOS is different from your QA people, just tell me please. If there are no specific guidelines in which you measure the quality and accuracy of your MTs, but leave everything up to the individuals reviewing the work, please tell me. I promise it will save both you and me a great deal of headaches down the line. I try to be very truthful about my experience (or even lack thereof), please be truthful about your company. After a while you get so frustrated your productivity drops, your zeal for the job at hand is lost, accuracy goes down the tube as you try to decipher if you should do it by the CP, BOS, or hope you get the same QA person who told you to change something (incorrectly) in the first place. I do not mind ESL or difficult dictators, I just do not want them one right after the other. Once in a while I would appreciate the easier dictators that I know you have stashed away. Thank you..
More honesty.
How about employees who are truthful about their experience? How about being available to work when you're scheduled, not when it's convenient for you? As with everything else, this is a two-way street.
Posts like yours keep blasting away at the employers. There are good employers out there, just like there are good employees and not-so-good employees.
Go ahead, fire away. My asbestos suit is back from the cleaners.
Thanks for your honesty. sm
The more I hear about the "other owner", the more I distrust her.
In all honesty....
Here is my opinion. Screw Karma and all of that silly BS.
As I sit here at my computer right now I see my husband, a man who loves me and I love him with all of my heart. We have stuck by each other through thick and thin. We have been there for each other and I would do anything for him.
I see my little daughter who depends on me for things like M&M's and pretty jewelry and who I would die for in a second without another thought.
NOW...if some snotty little MT who had no more resect for me as a co-worker, let alone a person with a family to worry about and INTENTIONALLY sat there and picked through all of the good reports and left me with the junk--in turn costing me the ability to provide my daughter with her M&M's and pretty jewelry (or worse), you would have to hold me back. I would go about it in as professinal of manner as possible, but you can bet that my supervisor would be left with an ultimatum of who he/she was going to keep. Especially in a situation where they can't afford to lose anyone, as you said. You have the upper hand. How dare she sit there and purposely take money our of you and your family's pocket! And to sit there and do nothing is not only cheating yourself, but those who depend on you.
Whew...
Appreciate your honesty...
That's what I'm looking for. In my short MT career I've already experienced the "losing my job to India" fiasco! The transcription company I worked for before laid off all their US employees to ship everything overseas because it could be done cheaper! Thanks again for your honesty. Guess I'll keep plugging away and hope for the best, huh?
Thanks for your honesty
I thought I had seen where MTs were making more money with VR than with straight typing because either they were slow or had problems with their hands.
I quit two months ago. I tried to quit for over a year, but I just had to be ready.
I tried the patch, NRT gum, Zyban, everything. One morning, I woke up and just quit cold turkey. There are some good online support groups out there that can help you when you're ready.
Sorry negativity and honesty are same in this
NM
Where is honesty and integrity? WHen did it
x
Honesty best policy
I don't think it would reflect badly on your son if you're just honest with the person who hired you about not being able to be on your feet for so long. I would suggest telling him/her that you didn't realize how difficult it would be to be on your feet for so many hours and that you've made a mistake. I think everything should work out just fine in the end :)
Honesty about working schedule
I do note that many transcripitionists I know of personally, are going to school for either a degree or training in another field, and right now it is finals everywhere. Many transcriptionists are struggling to keep the balls in the air between working and going to school, among other things. This, of course, does not make it okay to skip your work. However, I do know friends who work for industries outside the medical field, and are going to school also. Their companies let them take off a few days here and there for finals or mid-terms. Just my opinion.
There's nothing wrong w/ honesty, it's the nasty
rude, mean, demeaning and downright vicious comments that we're talking about. Just because it's not all "rosy & lucratiive" doesn't mean you can't offer a nice word of encouragement. Why step all over someone's dream just because your dream didn't come true with this industry? Maybe it's not all about the money. Maybe someone is going into this field in order to be at home with their family. You can be honest without being nasty and rude, that's the whole point here. Be honest, tell it like it is, but for heaven's sake, KEEP IT FRIENDLY.
Time for some honesty with the hubs. He'll never know how
s
Better ask on the receiving end. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. nm
s
If you are receiving 8 cpl, how much do you think
ALSO IF THEY WERE GOING TO QUIT SE, THEY WOULD QUIT ADVERTISING TO HIRE SE
And I have seen a new ad in the magazine Advance that has a sign on bonus for SE's, maybe just better pay, let's think positive!!
I think other way, for receiving not sending
x
Looks like that's only for sending, not receiving?
