I have a love-hate thing with Vonage.

In Reply to: What do you do if internet goes down? How do you call cable? - Lonnie

Can't beat the price but yeah, quality is hit or miss and if cable goes down, you're SOL.  We have a TracPhone for backup.  I live in a backwards land where it's considered long distance to call the next down over so Vonage has been a huge bonus to the maxed-out budget, but I swear the cable company, who has their own version of Vonage, does something to the bandwith to frig it up in the hopes that we will get so disgusted that we switch to their pricier alternative.

Love psych notes. HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE,
HATE ER notes.
I hate vonage

We tried vonage in several states and it does NOT work in any of them and they give various reasons.  It would disconnect continuously when trying to dial in years ago.

We switched to MagicJack and have not had one single dropped call, no fuzz, no problems whatsoever.

Love cardiology, hate podiatry. Hate discharges, but

I'm sorry, one more Vonage thing...

They cut me off in mid--report. No dial tone. Nothing. Then they emailed me a note saying they were going to charge me $39.99 to cancel my account.

Fortunately I can use my regular phone line as the account I am typing on tonight is local.

love, love, love the show. hate american idol. this show is for real.
the only reason i entertained watching it was because of mark burnett and as usual he has such genious casting and editing. btw, don't know who anything about "metal" music but these performers make me like it. love marty and jd as performers. HATE JESSICA. susie is so nice and so emotional. it seems they all support each other and enjoy each others skills. regarding ty and bob marley, ty was excellent but he also lucked out on the song! bob marley was genious too and his music is very easy to listen to. i don't like 3/4 of what the others are given to sing but their performances make me love the music. dave navarro shines on this show, very gracious for the most part and letting the contestants down easy when they have to leave. he was great last night with brandon (?). sweet, sweet show. i am so impressed with everyone involved.
People either love it or hate it. I personally love it
but I know a lot of people say you cannot make any money on it and will not work on it. I do okay. I'm obviously not getting rich but I am making a living. I found it easier than Dictaphone and faster such in downloading and uploading job and you only have to log on one system and not like Dictaphone where you have to log onto the VPN and then log onto the program. It's always worth a try, but yes, the biggest complaint I hear is that no one can make a living and the cpl isn't that great.
VONAGE - LOVE IT!
I could kick myself for not doing this sooner! I've had Vonage now for 4 months and have never had a problem...It works beautifully...No one would ever know your calls weren't going through the phone company..I pay 27.24 per month and it is so well worth the money!
It is worth it. Love Vonage! nm
:)
I have Vonage and love it so far. My understanding is sm

that as long as you cable or DSL access, you can hook up your modem anywhere and use it for your phone service.  You might give them a call and verify that this is correct, though, or check out their website at www.vonage.com.

Good luck!

I use Vonage with a C phone and Lanier with no problems, love it.

the DEP -- i love it. Would hate to use anything else.

Love the pay, hate the job
Anybody feel this way. Apparently I am way overpaid, so even if I apply at other places no one will pay me this amount. I don't hate the job, I am bored to tears with it and the industry as a whole. I am just so burned out with everything. I can't remember the last time I took a vacation (a real vacation). I have my certification in interior design and would like to venture into this business, just don't know where to begin. I've done one home so far, so that would be the only reference I have for a client of the work I've done. Also, how do you keep a full-time job and try to start something new at the same time? I am so stressed out that there are days I can't see my reports because my eyes are filled with tears. Any ideas would be appreciated. You guys are the best (and the best board in my opinion). Thank you.
Love being an MT--hate the company I
work for most days. I have left several times and find myself coming back. I have decided to stay because being at home far outweighs being out with all the stupid people!
I'm with Penguin, love my job, hate my pay! nm

Love/hate relationship
There are so many things I love about this job, working on my own, being at home, no office politics, better money than I can make anywhere locally, (I live in a rural community) can work in my jammies, flexibility, intellectually challenging...but then again so many things I dislike too.. no appreciation, being squeezed out by technology, not being paid what you're worth, forcing yourself to be self-disciplined, sitting for hours, hands aching, no respect from doctors or the public (Hey, I can type so can I get a job doing what you do??? UGH!), ESLs and poor dictators... it's hard to say which side of me wins out on most days.. It's a job, like any other job, good days/bad days... suits my lifestyle for now so I'll keep at it.. but always keep my eyes open for the future.
Love Clinton, hate Bush
Rather have a lover of women in the WH than a lover of war, death, dividing the country, alienating the world, destroying the environment, allowing gases to rise, water to be polluted as he cuts back regulations for businesses, cutting the rights and protections for the middle class, on and on and on and on and on....Bush is a disaster..a freak..a sociopath..check it out on the internet..doctors have posted articles that Bush is a sociopath..and I agree, my four years of psychology in college lead me to this conclusion, never said anything but now Ph.D.s are saying it too.., LOLOLOLOLOL
Love the softwares but hate the company.

I hate to admit this, but the one good thing I learned Focus Infomatics
was the Escription platform. Trust me, that is the only good to come of it. I think even if you get a few months under your belt, you'd be better off for it.
I love Dog -- Thought I would hate it, but really like it, same goes for that new show Miami Ink, -

don't know which channel --

Hate to hear that love Christmas Story!

Doing for the ones you love is one thing
constantly playing the "poor, poor, overworked me" crappola is another. Trying to make one's self look like a hero at the expense of others is being a martyr. They're not doing it as an unconditional love thing, they're doing it for attention and recognition, as well as to fill a void in their otherwise empty unfulfilled lives. Two different scenarios.
One more thing, I LOVE MY JOBS! Does anybody feel the same? nm

Love my Kirby G5 -- got it used for $500 - the thing is a tank and works great!- nm

Well, I love some Autocorrect features--best thing about Word-- and I backup *.acl file---so I never lose it. Just replace it in the Windows folder (copy and paste my newest backup *.acl file--which I copy once a day--into the Windows folder on the C:drive). takes less than a minute, never "lose" Autocorrect anyumore. For years I did, though, before I figured out where it was. Just search for *.acl on your computer and copy the file that comes up as owner.acl or whatever you named your computer-- and then put it on the desktop as the backup file, jsut make a folder or whatever, newest backup acl-- along with Normal.dot-- and copy these once a week onto a disk.

I hate those but I hate trauma notes on children even more sm
I used to work for a large hospital that saw a lot of children for various horrible things.

The very last one I did was a 12yo boy who had hung himself while his mother was at work. She thought he was in school. The doctor cried, I cried (as I usually did) and I just couldn't handle that anymore. That was the longest report I swear. Short in lines but the length was almost an hour. The doc didn't pause the machine, she cried, horrible gut wrenching sobs, and I did too, right along with her.
I don't hate AAMT at all, ks. I don't hate
their book. In fact, I love the BOS2. It is not a regular grammar book at all - there are hundreds of issues in it that are point specific to MTing and medical field. I have dozens of regular grammar books, too, for other purposes, and they are not similar at all. I purchased the BOS2 when out job interviewing for a few months. Every single employer wanted me to have my own company, and they all tested off of it. Several used it in their daily work, and I have found it priceless over all. I think its even on sale now, but $89 is not a lot for a professional tool that we should use if required, or if a newbie. MTs who don't like to buy books are not very wise in the big picture. Its like shooting yourself in the foot.
Yep that's it, 4000. Love, love love the zoom
But I feel like a dork typing...every time I try to type But it is coming out as Nut!
Ebonics: Not a black thing or white thing. (sm)

I don't think there's any cause to get upset or defensive here.  Look it up on line...even colleges are offering courses in Ebonics!  ...well of course they are more sociology-type courses, but still, people are PAYING to learn about the why's and how's of this "other" language.

A quote from one of the sites I found:

"UT-Austin's "Introduction to the Study of African American English," teaches students that the sentence, "Nobody didn't leave" is not "mainstream English with mistakes," but rather a legitimate English dialect. "Ebonics: Myth and Facts" and "African-American English" are both offered at Harvard. Penn and UCLA also promote Ebonics as a legitimate dialect in, "Introduction to African American and Latino English" and "Afro-American Sociolinguistics: Black English," respectively."

Vonage
Any of you out there using Vonage?  It seems like a really good deal, 25.00 a month for unlimited (opposed to the 110. we pay for Verizon).  Anyone using it to connect to hospitals? and do they say anything if you are using 8 hours solid for work?  I see they have a small business plan for around 50.  If any of you have it, how is the connection and the sound quality.
I have been using Vonage for almost
a year now. I didn't get the business plan and I didn't tell them what I was using it for, and they have never said anything about it. I do dial into a hospital and have used it on a personal basis. The sound quality is good. I have been disconnected a few tiimes in bad weather but not for very long and only maybe twice since having it. Go for it, I think you'd like it. Good luck!
Vonage
I would like to get Vonage but I have two extension phones in my house and they told me it would only ring on one phone and not on the extensions. Any suggestions?
It is not against the law for Vonage as they are
However, for the other LD companies i.e., Sprint, Verizon, etc., it is not allowed. I also used my local carrier only to be notified several times that I could not use it for this type of work and if I continued they would disconnect my service! I know use Vonage and have had no problems.
I use Vonage
Only VoIP plans don't put a minute limitation on "unlimited" long distance, i.e, 5000 minutes a month or whatever.  So far no problems.  I still get nervous about it though because they could crack down at any time like the other traditional LD companies started doing.
Vonage
I use Vonage.
I am using Vonage
My husband and I are using Vonage. It was a handle to get going but now seems to be smooth sailing. The only problem is if we loose our cable modem then our phones go down as well. Also if you have problems more than likely you will be speaking to someone in India, so I do not know if it is based out of India or what.
Vonage here
Vonage has worked well for me.  I pay about $27 a month on the residential plan and have had it for about 4 months.  I know some people have had problems with getting disconnected a lot, but I haven't.  It must depend on where you live.  I use a high volume of LD for MT and haven't had any troubles (so far).
Vonage
I have had such little trouble with Vonage that I sometimes forget that is what I am using.  They are great, no problems.
Vonage is
works great! love it...and hubby likes the bill ;-)
Vonage
I had problems from the beginning with Vonage and working on the internet. I finally had to take a loss and switch - went over to MCI. The rate is ok - and your first month is free (26.99) and then every 6 months you get a coupon to send in with your bill for $26.99 - so I guess it is like getting two months a few for free - anything as long as my phone works.
Vonage
Mine used to just keep going when I hit the rewind pedal and would rewind all the way to be beginning of the report.  Try changing the bandwidth on the Vonage website under your account.  Change it to the lowest setting if it is not already there and see if this helps.
Yes,that is what Vonage is...
I have used it for four years and haven't had a problem. See the messages below about Vonage. Actually Vonage is only in the US and Canada though. You can call other countries but they charge you, but from what I hear, they are very good rates.
Vonage sm
I see a lot of ads for Vonage locally but have heard negative reports on this board. Does anyone have this service and is it a good one? I am in search of a good low-cost long distance and direct cable service. I am currently on AOL and they are pushing broadband either through Verizon or Cox in my area. Someone in my family just went through a terrible business venture with Verizon for weeks and their computers were "totally down" and were unable to transmit important information, so I am being overly cautious.
Vonage

That terrible business venture ....  did you mean "Vonage" versus "Verizon"?  Okay, if you did then you should know that is a realistic gamble you will always have to take with Vonage and computer down-time.  That is just how it is.  Computer is down, work does not get done.  Second, check the archives on this board for negative Vonage comments.  I, for one, have had nothing but a big fat negative experience with Vonage.  Spent 6 hours -- HOURS! -- in total over the telephone with every "rep" that Vonage seemed to have, most of them The Patels from India type reps (all called Jason or Tom, yeah right), and even the American sounding reps could just not get there stuff together.

I was a residential user with a single phone line and NOTHING fancy involved, but they just could not get us hooked up.  Oy veh!, the frustration.  And that was just getting us SET UP?  We canceled before going any further.  The money savings is substantial, so we gave them every chance to prove themselves, but it just did not work out.  Good luck to you.  Not a lot of fantastic options, unfortunately.

vonage

Comes with practically everything.  Only $24.99 a month and unlimited long distance.  You have to have Cable or DSL for it to work though.

Vonage
Yes and at $24.99 remember you are getting what you pay for. I tried it and it interfered with my broadband and I had to cancel. I could not get an answer from them in the 1st 30 days - so I had to pay a penalty to cancel. Just another untrustworthy company in my opinion.
Vonage
Didn't work for me - what a waste of time and money.
Vonage

I am thinking of getting Vonage phone service.  Does it really work that well and how easy is it to set up?  I know the ads say that it is 24.95/month, is this really accurate?  Has anyone experienced any hidden costs.

Just trying to test the waters before jumping in.  Any info would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Vonage
When I first got vonage everytime I picked up the line my whole wireless network would go down. No help at all from vonage or my ISP. Since I was using a wireless phone with vonage I thought it might be the phone, so 3 phones later the problem stopped. I am currently using an old ATT 900ghz unit. Now, from a quality standpoint it is not like a regular phone. The thing stops when you stop talking and starts when you start talking. This results in the first part of each sentence being cutoff a bit and the last part ends abruptly so the listener has a hard time hearing the last word. Also, unlike a phone where both parties can talk at the same time, vonage has a hard time dealing with this. If you are on the phone a lot, I would not recommend it. I use it for my home phone, but for my business I still have a land line.
