I have a good friend who is a recording artist. I could have SM

any of his music free, and I always get to hear it before it is even on the CD. I could bum music from him or his family any time, but I won't. It is how he makes his living.

I think it is stealing.

An artist, I wanted to be an artist, but
couldn't afford school, and now, at my age, probably too late, I haven't painted or drawn in so long, not sure I even could anymore.
I had a good friend who did it and I found out... and
when I found out it was when I was promoted to the transcription regional manager for the branch. It was up to me to do random QA and invoicing to make sure everything was okay. It was really, really sad because my very best friend there who started with me at the same time, on the same great account (we both did well, and this was back in the late 80s early 90s). So, about 6 years later, when I decided to go into QA and then management I did a random on my friend. This was absolutely just by chance. Well, I found out she was padding her lines about 12000 lines per pay period!!!!!!!I cannot tell you how shocked I was. These were the days we went according to bites and divided, etc. We were even allowed to use codes and that was okay too for the extra lines, like bolding, remember. Well even so, she was adding about 6K lines a week and no wonder she was making so much money. She used to laugh when we were friends because she'd put the book on the dictaphone pedal while she ran errands.
My heart broke that day. I asked her to please don't do it anymore. Well, unfortunately she did not listen to me and she got in big trouble. She was not fired, but I do not know what happened because between that and a wage cut some VP did on my MTs, I quit management. BTW: The padding in the case then was because it was an honor system. The MT was to look at the bytes and divide and type on a sheet and send the totals in, much like recent times for some companies. Only these days the software calculates it and usually it is the MTSO that can cheat by cutting line counts in deceptive ways. Oh, my, please this is a long enough note and don't get me started. I may have to hit the New Year's bottle and I don't want to do that because I go to work at 3 AM. LOL . HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE. See you NEXT YEAR heh heh.
That is a good idea. My friend and her ...sm
husband have started selling dog shirts on ebay and they are making some extra money at it.
One of my best friends has a good friend who is a chiropractor -sm
She (my friend) knows all the ins and outs. So when I was in a car accident in 10/05 I asked her....I had run into the money machine chiropractors before in the past and my SIL sees a real quack who has her basically living on herbal pills (she barely eats), and has her kids on them too. So my experience was a bit jaded. She said if you went to one who got their schooling at Palmer College of Chiropractors, then they should be a good chiropractor and be "straight" and practice straight chiropractic care and not be out to rape your wallet and use gadgets, etc. I heeded her advice and now am seeing a Palmer graduate and have been very happy with my care and my back is tons better now (after I was told there was nothing that could be done by my orthopedist). It did not happen overnight, took about 2-3 months, about $45 a visit. She "adjusts" (cracks) my back, neck and hips. I have had one "relapse" so to speak (which can happen and is normal) but that is on the mend now. I now only go every 2 weeks. I will probably continue to see her even after I sign off on the accident (my health insurance covers $1000 of chiropractic care a year, so I will be covered which is nice at 2 visits a month pretty much). As long as you don't go to a quack, I think it would probably help you but don't expect miracles overnight, takes a little time to feel better. Good luck.
Try for a short sale, a good friend of mine - sm
did that a few months ago, had a mortgage and a 2nd mortgage, and just could not keep up. They agreed to a short sale on the 2nd mortgage, and by a miracle she got a buyer. She actually walked away with about $1K. Lives with boyfriend now which is saving his butt from foreclosure now.
Captain Morgan is a VERY good friend of mine!!!

Along with his south of the border pal, Jose.

Glad I was able to help....I just keep thinking about my inspiration (friend from gym). Good luck!!

A good friend died of cancer that I suspected years before
because of a test he had and he had asked me to get a copy of, which I did, but not being "qualified", it said possible metastasis, I just told him I couldn't get it for some reason, and to talk to his doctor. His doctor, for some strange reason said it was "normal". I then asked him to get a copy of it himself, but he didn't. My husband told him to go to another doctor. It took several years, but he eventually was diagnosed with cancer after having a seizure, (it had spread to his brain) and he died a few months later.

The bottom line is, we're really not qualified to diagnose or advise people. I do feel terrible guilt for it, (you should've seen me at the funeral) but there's nothing we can do. If a doctor doesn't diagnose something properly, even if WE KNOW, there's still nothing we can do about it. We don't have the capacity to treat them and nobody is going to listen to us.
Favorite artist
I love Michael Buble and Kristin Chemowith.
turn her into an artist...
I hated that my preschool daughter was going to be watching so much TV, when I got an idea. She liked to draw, so I would sit her down to watch her favorite cartoons, and tell her you can only watch these if you will draw them for me, so I can look at them later with you. I'd leave a big stack of drawing paper, pens, colored pencils, paints, and she'd get totally engrossed. So every TV show or cartoon she watched, she had to illustrate it for me. Or sometimes she wouldn't even be in front of the TV, just sitting next to me on the computer, drawing me, the cat, whatever. These days, she's 14 and has won some awards for her art work. All kids are creative in some way. Find out what they like to create. Good luck!
Yes! You are correct. He is a 3-D animation artist. nm

Wow, talk about scam artist giving MTs a bad name!

How about your husband tells the friend to tell his female friend to lose the #?

re-recording
I am trying to figure out how to record to my computer.  I can record the dictation from the phone but don't have a clue as to how to transfer it.  I just bought a Sony voice recorder, digital and PC link gadget.  I have a WAV pedal installed and tried to transfer to a file but really don't know what I am doing!  Can anyone help with this???
re-recording
I am recording to a hand-held Sony digital recorder that can be connected to my computer and somehow downloads the dictation.  You have to choose a file type and because I have a Start Stop pedal I chose a .WAV file.  Nothing happened and I really don't know what I am doing.    Instead of spending the $50 I should have bought a used transcriber/recorder!
Re-recording from C-phone

Hi!

Can anyone tell me how to go about re-recording from a C-phone onto a microcassette player?  Is this possible?

TIA!

help with recording off line please...sm

Okay dating myself, but many eons ago when I worked for YOG we recorded the work off line onto a hand-held microrecorder and then used a regular old transcriber to do the work.  I know I had a grey and a black cord and the only other thing I can find is my index card telling me that I dial in on my Dictaphone...black cord is in the ear phone and grey cord is in the microphone...that is it.

I now need to record work off line for a few weeks and can not find my cords (was 8 years ago) or how I did this.

Does anyone else record off line onto a tape to do at a later time or some place else?  I really am at a loss and the one guy at Radio Shack was not much help either...

ANY HELP REALLY APPRECIATED

DotMT

She still has to meet TAT and recording

not a good idea.  What if that report is recorded off and the hospital/office needs access to it right away?  If she is off somewhere with it on a tape, that could be a huge problem.

IC doesn't mean you can do whatever you want to do!  And if recording makes the sound quality such that you cannot produce an accurate report, then I would think that would be unacceptable.

Re-recording dictation....

HI,

What does it entail to re-record dictation.  I noticed an ad placed that required this.  What do you need and what is the easiest way to go about it.  Thanks.

Re-recording via C-phone
C.J. We were doing rerecording with C-phones all the time, years ago. I'm sure it can still be done with ease. It takes time to do it, but there are much easier ways to get the info off of a Dictaphone system these days if the client is amenable.

Funny - this is the major topic of most of my discussions when I first came on line with MT Daily, then MT Stars on the tech boards. Time goes by and the questions remain the same. Is Kent Lenox anywhere around on the boards?

Digital Recording
I need some help on setting up digital recording - I currently use the mini-cass and my clients are wanting to switch to digital recorder.  Right now they mail me the dictation tapes, I type them, and email back the work.  Can some one tell me what equipment I would need and how I would get the voice recorder file to my computer?  I have read a couple of places on the internet and I am more confused now than previously.

When recording a macro in MS Word
what do you do in order to be able to jump from heading to heading; i.e., how do I get from HISTORY: to FINDINGS: ? Thanks for your help.
Docs with laptops instead of recording sm
It's happening, docs typing in only what they feel necessary as they see you and your PMH only as necessary, you may have been through a lot in the past but don't think they care, they only want what they can efficiently store & do themselves. That's a fact! It's sad!
Recording files from C-phone to tape???

Hi, has anyone ever recorded files from a C-phone onto cassette tapes?  I have an account that is accessed via C-phone.  I am going to be going out of town for a couple days and wanted to record some work to take with me.  Can this be done?  I have a Lanier micro-cassette player and a Dictaphone C-phone.  Is there an attachment of some sort that could accomplish this?  Thanks for any help you can offer.

A friend of a friend is taking CareerStep - sm
she is under the misguided idea that she will be making very good $ upon completing the course (a friend of hers supposedly makes $55K a year). I told her no way, at least not starting out and not unless all the factors click together, i.e. good typing speed, good pay (not for a newbie), good dictators (unlikely) and dedication to working hard. I told her what I make after 5 years (16K) but that is PT and I have the potential to double that if I would push myself, not procrastinate so much (I web surf way too much) and work more than I already do. I am not a fast typist but am good at what I do. I will be surprised if she follows though. She told me she'd call me when she finished the course, I just hope she is ready for reality.

Electronic sound recording replaces court reporters these days. (nt)

Looking for friend
Hundreds of people are coming into Alabama and Florida away from NO and Mississippi. Go to www.nola.com (Times-Picayune newspaper in New Orleans) and look for message boards. Local papers and other shelters are posting names. Still waiting to hear about family members from Gautier, Long Beach, and Gulfport, MS. Hope you hear from her soon!
To "a friend"
I wanted to personally thank you for your opinion and also for putting yourself out there for me. The serious physical abuse for me happened mostly while I was pregnant (both times)with his children. He had not touched me in three years until two weeks ago. I am aware that I am in a volatile situation and I am doing something about it. I just needed to reach out today for some comfort and support. I feel I got both. I'm sorry I opened the door for people on here to hurt you. That was not my intention. Thank you and big hugs for paying attention to me. J.
Same here. Have a friend who is
a biller who is the same way. We all work at home and have very little people contact. It makes you a little agoraphobic. I have to run all my errands at once, or I will not do them. All the MTs I know are the same way. Can we get disability for this?LOL
Tell your friend
She can go online and change the settings on her bandwidth from the Vonage site.  We had some problems and found out it was our cable modem.  The strength of the service depends on your internet provider as well.
Is this a friend of yours? nm

not a friend...sm
actually, it's a patient that I did a note on...the doc went into great detail about her home life, her husband, her finances...but it still burns me up ! I'd love, love to talk to her...but guess my prayers will have to do...
think twice about a friend
Rather than worrying about training a newbie, I would think twice about a friend.  I have had friends as IC's whichI have helped to train as well as just newbies.   It is hard to keep that line between friendship and working relationship especially if you are the one giving her the work, checking the work and training her.   Have almost lost two friends over this because they felt because they were friends I would understand their problems, family  problems, time off needed, not getting work back, etc.   They saw me work and bring in the big bucks and wanted to share in it but did not understand how it worked.   You don't produce work, you don't get paid.    I have trained a lot of people and helped out a lot but never again will it be a friend that is actually doing work for me.   If they are working for someone else, I will help them out but just not for me.  So I worry more about it being a friend than a newbie.   Patti
Have a friend who is MT and she has
bought this, paid quite a bit for it. She had used escription before and now she does straight. She has arthritis in her hands and trying to alleviate some of the pain she has with straight but said wasted her money, tried and tried to educate the machine and still not worth the money she spent.
My friend went not once, but twice. sm
My friend went and she loved it.  I lost touch with her the last time she went back.  They did live in a compound and you had to adhere to the religious, traditional ways over there.  When you left the compound you had to wear a burka.  She said they furnished you your own really nice apartment.  I thought about going back then, but with the political climate, I am too afraid.  After all, they are our "allie" (wink), and over 10 of the 911 bombers were from Sauda Arabia our "allie" (wink).
My friend said she
could never do this as she's not disciplined enough. She's honest as it does take discipline.

You get out of it what you put in. Pretty simple!
i have a friend
Who is working for Inscribe, and is very happy there. She says that the people are nice, and there is always enough work. They hire part time, as long as you can commit to 20 hours a week.
very well put my friend.

I have a friend...sm
I have a friend who works at home as a MT for a hospital and her internet is disabled somehow where she can't go on or check email or anything. I was like I don't know what I would do because like you I think the quickest way to find something you aren't sure of is to go on the internet. But the computer she uses to work belongs to the hospital so I guess she can't say anything.
your friend
Gosh, been there, done that, religious beliefs has nothing to do with it, went to one of these hospitals to "heal" and give them my all in terms of experience, etc., willing to take less for the comfort of being in a peaceful place. This was nothing near what I expected; in fact, the worst experience of my life. One of the "supers" was nutty as a fruitcake, slammed doors in people's faces, made people cry, etc., but no one did anything for a whole year about her after I left in tears. The suits rule, but put your complaint in the "Bishop's" hands and see if he has what it takes to walk his talk. I can relate, it was the worst 6 months of my life but somehow evil will not prevail if you have the guts to go forward with what you know she went through, even anonymously, if you have to, then let the chips fall where they may. Hopefully, in God's hands, not yours. So sorry for your friend, I know what she went through. Thanks for sharing and God bless you for caring
re your friend.
this is America. Talk about what you want to. My heart goes out to you all in the loss of your friend. but stand up and don't be a door mat. You cannot be walked on if you don't lay down and let them. I had a mean supvr and it happened to be in a Catholic hospital. I refused to do what i was told (practice forging doctor's names) and it was quite a scene. Once i stood up for what was right, it gave the others courage to do so. i didn't lose my job either. but if you do, you were looking for one when you found this one, right? be strong; set the example and don't follow in your friend's footsteps to the same end. God bless. p.s. Catholics follow the pope first and Christ second. To me, that does not a Chrisian make.
So sorry about your friend
Maybe this is just my personality constantly bucking heads with authority, but I really enjoy working from home. You have a very marketable skill, and there is a lot of work out there for you to do. They do not own you. You rent PART of your life to them when you work. They have no right to work you to death. Would looking for other opportunities, home or otherwise be an option? There is a lot of work out there for experienced MTs.
very well put my friend.
x
I had a friend who was...
a pharmacy tech.  He went to school for that believing that it would pay decent, but he ended up disappointed.  He said the pay stunk and it was extremely boring.  Maybe others have had a different experience.
Had a friend who did it. (SM)
She was about 40, I think, when she made the switch. I know the training took her almost two years to get the point (speed, accuracy) where she was employable.

I remember she told me they start you out doing "one voice", then "two voices", etc., until (I think) you get to where you can do either five or six voices like a conference or a deposition.

It was very hard, but she's making pretty good money now. She works for herself, not for a court, and has a number of attorneys and companies for clients.

Also, my friend who is an MT at one of
these hospitals has virtually no work now that they are in the process of converting to EMR. She is being sent to different doctor's offices to abstract (pull important info from reports to put on EMR) since she has no (or very little) MT work now.
Had a friend who was on VR
she had rheumatoid arthritis and her hands after years of straight were killing her. She did not like VR and at age 50 something got inhouse job working at hospital in town, not doing transcription but in the medical field. Not for everyone.
I think its great what you did for your friend
A few of us were planning an "intervention" where we confront her basically to tell her we think she needs help, because the pain has made her very depressed and she is just not herself anymore.  I will look into finding her a rheumatologist myself, since that is probably all it takes, and also pushing her in the right direction.  Although like your friend, I know she will be angry, but gotta do it.  She can barely move and I can see the pain on her face.  I don't think anyone should live in chronic pain.  Thank you for your kind words
