that also has the number pad on the side and the keys are enough out of position that the times I have used the keyboard I backspace half of what I type.
I use an external keyboard the majority of the time.

I bought a Toshiba Satellite with keypad and hate it.
I use an external keyboard 99% of the time, but when I need to work in a mobile situation I don't always have room for an external keyboard. Having the keypad throws off the position of some of the keys just enough that I'm having to delete a lot because I'm hitting wrong keys because of key placement.
Love psych notes. HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE,
HATE ER notes.
I have a Toshiba
and I like it very much. I have the Core Duo processor and it has not failed me yet when it comes to working with so many different windows and programs open. I have the Windows XP Media Edition on mine.
I have had mine since October when my primary PC crashed and had to go into be fixed. My brother-in-law has a Dell and he also likes his very much.
toshiba
do you know if they are in US? I hate to deal with India.
i like my toshiba!

toshiba
I've never owned an Acer, but last year I bought a Toshiba laptop and it's great.. no issues whatsoever, all the bells and whistles, nice keyboard as far as laptops go...
This is a bit late.. I wasn't online yesterday.. have you already made your decision?
I have had 2 Toshiba Satellites.
My Satellites have been great, but bear in mind I use my computer exclusively for MT'ing, surfing the Net and e-mail. If your son is doing lots of downloading of music or games, or doing other more sophisticated stuff, you probably need to check how that affects the specs he needs.
I have had a Dell, HP, and a Toshiba. The
HP has been the best, but brand isn't that important. I wouldn't get a Gateway and I wouldn't get a Celeron processor. My Dell didn't have the speed that the HP you linked does and I was able to work fine, but I would definitely agree to get faster. I download and then work off-line. If you worked on-line you would definitely want/need faster.
I am using a Toshiba Satellite and it has a lot more RAM, a much faster processor, and a 17'' screen and I paid less than the HP you linked.
I have a Dell, HP, and a Toshiba. The
Dell is a piece of *rap. I've had to replace every major piece, fortunately the majority was when it was still under warranty. I've had an HP for 5 or 6 years and other than a hard drive crashing it has been a very good computer. My Toshiba is the newest, just a year old, and I don't like it near as much as my HP and I'm probably going to switch back to my HP as my main computer.
I don't know about Acer laptops, but we had a desktop and we had so many problems with it, we got an HP computer under the lemon law in exchange for the Acer.
I would recommend getting an extended warranty on whatever you get. Check to see if you can get your computer serviced locally if it is still under warranty or if you need to ship it off somewhere. Dell's customer service is in India, don't know about other companies. When I dealt with HP they were not offshore and I haven't had to deal with Toshiba yet.
i opted for toshiba
after much study on various aspects of this, largely because of Consumer Reports recommendations and reviews by users. I also found what i was looking for in that brand in a bundle at the right price. I understand Toshiba support is very good. I've heard a lot of stuff about Dell's service and didn't consider them. I'm not worrying about getting extended warranties. I wanted to get the AMD chipset as it is said to extend battery life and be better...and at least 1 gig of memory (essential for Vista as i understand tho 2 would be better). Make sure it has plenty of USB ports for your footpedal, keyboard, mouse, etc. and express card/media card reader. I wanted the dual-core as it is supposed to give the processor a boost and keep the machine cooler. Most people will never need more than 80-100 gb hard drive. I'm very happy with mine so far, which i got on line from Circuit City.
Acer or Toshiba?
Hi. Bought 2 computers tonight. Which one do I keep? They are both approximately the same price -- Acer is $50 cheaper. I just want to know pros and cons of the brands. Thanks for any advice.
Any new Toshiba Satellite with XP. Mine is a

Get a TOSHIBA!!! They're great!
Dell I found to be extremely limited, only 1-2 models. Order a XP Toshiba! $899 in Dec got me free shipping, no tax (it was a special), and a good workhorse XP with a DVD/CD multi format RW on a laptop, all the stuff I need without anything I don't.
Right now I have a Dell, HP, and Toshiba laptop
and an HP desk top. The Dell is a piece of junk and I'm fixing to piece it out. I haven't had any problems with the Toshiba but I still prefer my HP and if I were to get a new computer it would be HP.
The cheaper computers of any brand tend to have Celeron processors and they are really a cheap processer and I personally wouldn't buy one, but otherwise there is nothing wrong with the computers, they just don't have all the bells and whistles. If they last 2 years you've gotten your money out of them and they have become practically dinosaurs by then anyway.
I hate DocQSribe, I hate DocQScribe, I hate DocQScrbe, I hate DocQScribe, I hate DocQSribe.

I was leaning towards Toshiba because my tech believes they are the best, but
I bought a Dell as a friend told me they are actually very reliable and cheaper to fix if they break. I don't think you'd go wrong looking in either direction given you. You just decide what you want. I wouldn't settle for less than 1 gig of RAM, 80 mg hard drive, internal wireless plus ethernet or a modem in case wireless is not available (but there are several internet cafes that you can use for a small fee and the wireless would work there). I bought a refurb off e-Bay from a trustworthy seller and have been very pleased. If you go that route, just check their feedback for the good, bad and downright ugly. You can save a lot of money if you hit the right offer. Best to you and yours.

I hate those but I hate trauma notes on children even more sm
I used to work for a large hospital that saw a lot of children for various horrible things.
The very last one I did was a 12yo boy who had hung himself while his mother was at work. She thought he was in school. The doctor cried, I cried (as I usually did) and I just couldn't handle that anymore. That was the longest report I swear. Short in lines but the length was almost an hour. The doc didn't pause the machine, she cried, horrible gut wrenching sobs, and I did too, right along with her.
I use a MSFT Natural keyboard at home and the laptop keyboard on the road. nm

If you use a standard keyboard you can buy an old IBM model M keyboard on ebay or clickykeyboards.co
That key printing never wear down because the letters are part of the key itself. They just don't make them that way anymore because it is too expensive to make. Some of the mechanical keyboards like Cherry have what they double shot key imprinting and the letters are part of the key itself and don't wear off. That IBM keyboard is very noisy from the type of keyswitch it has so you may not like that. Logitech and Belkin make some membrane switch keyboards that are supposed to have longer lasting key imprints. I have a logitech that has the longer lasting key imprints and it is pretty good. You have to look on the specs to find out if has the longer lasting key printing.
I have experimented so much with keyboards and have done a lot of research. Way too much info.
I use a laptop with a full-size keyboard (no separate keyboard)
I'm using a lap desk but previously was using a pillow with a book on it under the laptop. No additional keyboard though, I bought one with a full-sized board with regular size keys (an HP) which I LOVE and it took no time at all to get used to it. I also love that when the weather improves, I can take my computer outside and get some fresh air! What a great job... :)
Keyboard and mouse. Is there such a thing as a keyboard that has a mouse on the actual keyboard?

I don't hate AAMT at all, ks. I don't hate
their book. In fact, I love the BOS2. It is not a regular grammar book at all - there are hundreds of issues in it that are point specific to MTing and medical field. I have dozens of regular grammar books, too, for other purposes, and they are not similar at all. I purchased the BOS2 when out job interviewing for a few months. Every single employer wanted me to have my own company, and they all tested off of it. Several used it in their daily work, and I have found it priceless over all. I think its even on sale now, but $89 is not a lot for a professional tool that we should use if required, or if a newbie. MTs who don't like to buy books are not very wise in the big picture. Its like shooting yourself in the foot.
Has anyone used the Smartboard keyboard? Everyone tell what keyboard they have and rate it nm

Kinesis Keyboard and keyboard tray
Okay, any lefties use this keyboard? How long did it take to get used to? I use my left thumb for the space bar and I notice on a diagram of the keys that I would always be hitting the backspace key.
I'm really interested in getting a better keyboard. I destroyed my left hand and wrist the other week when I fell because I'm becoming a real klutz.
I bought the Soft Flex gloves, but they only help a little bit. My production is down because of it and it's driving me crazy. I can only type an hour without stopping and then have to rest the hand for some time.
I did buy a Microsoft 2000 keyboard but have yet to recieve it. Is this a good one?
Do you use a keyboard tray with it or just set it on the desk? Do you think a kayboard tray would be the least expensive item right now that would help with a straight keyboard?
Any info you can provide to help me in making any decision would be greatfully appreciated.
'Scuse me for being old school, but I've only ever used a straight keyboard.
Does anyone know of a keyboard that has the backspace key in the center of the keyboard? NM

Split keyboard mounted on chair arms versus split keyboard on desk
For longtime comfort which is best - split keyboard mounted on chair arms or split keyboard to be used on the desk?
Also, why the preference over split keyboards that come totally apart versus split keyboards that are permanently connected at the top?
I want to revamp my office and there are so many different options.
Gold touch makes a keyboard without number pad. Also the evoluent keyboard has the number pad on th
It is a very small keyboard and has laptop keys which are very quiet and light to the touch. Almost no noise.

I really hate that
for you. Had you gotten past that experience I believe you would have found it to be a place where you would have really been happy. Doesn't sound at all like their techs. Could be it was just a bad day for both of you. Unfortunately that happens sometimes. Hope you find a company you're happy with soon.
Don't you just hate it when .....sm
a dictator blobbers a word/phrase and the client claims something like "if you just listened to this 40 times in various speeds, very quiet conditions and through 2 different phone systems or PCs you should have been able to figure this out." Of course we all want to rebut with "and if your dictator wouldn't talk with his mouth full of his Wendy's hamburger while driving down the interstate with the convertible top open, and on a speaker phone we could hear him/her the first time without a problem!"
I don't hate MQ, but---
I don't like the decrease in my lines since starting on DQS either. It is not what it was promised to be. I am working a lot longer and harder now and I still cannot get the lines I used to on Medrite. I also wish they would be better about giving raises to those of us who are faithful employees and are always there for THEM. I have also been with them for over 8 years.
HATE IT, HATE IT, HATE IT!

I hate when that happens...
you have my sympathies!
I hate that
I mean if they really want to talk to me why be as inconsiderate as to keep me waiting and take up my important time sitting there listening to nothing. I wait and wait so I can say for them not to call again. Sometimes they take forever to get the real live being on the line. Why would I buy something from someone who saw me as so unimportant as to keep me waiting like that.
Yep, I really like my job - it's the pay I hate :)
Happy Day!!
I really hate that!
I remember, back in the old days, we used our common sense when dealing with numbers. We'd say "an 80-year-old man who has had cancer for five years, having undergone 12 radiation treatments." Anything under the number 10 would be spelled out, except for lists, etc.; those would be in numbers. Whose idea was it to change the rules of proper English, punctuation, and grammar? (Change is hard for me, I admit.)
I would hate it and have already had a job like that - sm
though they did not call you to ask why a report took "too" long in their eyes, but they monitored you closely. I did not like the feeling of "big brother watching". Tell management to try typing the report and see how long it takes them....sometimes 5 minute reports can take 30 minutes. I average 14-15 minutes an hour, so it would have probably taken me 20 minutes; 30 it is was a hard ESL or I had to look a lot of stuff up (which I have to do depending on which doctor I have, i.e. addresses, which slows me down tremendously). If it's a good job I'd go for it, and as you already know the doctors you should have no problem. You can always quit if you don't like it.
Does he hate you now for it?
x
Hate to say it...
But you may be going about it with the wrong attitude. Think about it as a lifestyle change, not a "diet", and you may have better success. And yes, keep the exercising up, that's a great plus no matter what!
Hate it!
When my youngest was 5 or so, the time changed at this time of year, I told him to go to bed (it was still quite light outside). He said, NO, It's not dark yet, I don't have to! I said yes you do the time changed. He said "Well, put it back!" I said I can't I didn't make that change. He said, "Well call the governor and make him fix it!"
I still laugh over that, but I agree wholeheartedly LOL.
HATE IT

And don't you just hate it when they tell you to sm
schedule your doctor appointments for off work hours? Heck, I go 70 miles 4 times a year to see 2 physicians and not always on the same day. No way I can schedule these for "off work time". They are both booked solid for as long as 6 months in advance, so I have to take whatever I can get.
OT, but, does anyone hate sex?

I just HATE it when sm
my husband cuts the grass under my window when I am working. Granted, it is only about 20 minutes he is out there but it really peeves me. Oh well, I'll keep quiet about it. Otherwise, I'll have to do it myself. Really though, I am grateful I have him. It's just that sometimes.......
Don't you hate it when ...
the doc dictates a mile-a-minute, but then answers his cell phone in the middle of the dictation and speaks completely and absolutely clearly and at a normal rate of speed!!!!!!!
Aaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh!
I Hate it.
It takes me so much longer to do a report. When I get "standard" reports, my productivity is great, but my VR or "edited" reports suck. Mostly because I hate doing it. I've been looking for a place that doesn't use it because it's really killing my paychecks.
I hate when that happens. Sorry for you. nm
