I have IE set to display text size as largest, yet this font is so tiny I can barely see it.

It depends on font size, line length, margin size, etc.
There are too many variables.

tiny font
Something is wrong here. It sounds like this board shows up in huge font on YOUR end, but it is about an 8 font on my computer. The main board, job seeker's board, and compary board show up tiny for me, but the other boards look about 12-14 font, which is MUCH better!
Ask what font, font size and margins are
Then you can figure out how many characters would be in a complete line of text. I am not sure if I am explaining this very well. :-( I worked for one place that had a small font size and small margins. So it did not work out for me as each line averaged closer to 70 characters, and there were not many lines that had only one or two words on them because of the set up.
The font is very tiny for me. It never used to be this way. It suddenly occurred and nothing I do

When paid by cpl, does it affect your line count if you type in a size 10 or size 12 font?
Font size
I have an account and they did not indicate a font size - I know that it makes a big difference the more that you have bolded in a report - what would be a reasonable font size or the standard font size to use?
Font size
I have read with interest the thread on font size.  Now I know why one company allows you to transcribe in one font and then it gets printed in another - which is much smaller - which does make it harder to get your lines.  I thought that it was me - but could not understand until I saw what was getting printed and counted, as to why it was so difficult to get a good line count when I had always done so in the past.  Is this not in some way misrepresentation?  You see what looks like a nice report and then when it gets printed it is so small that you can hardly read it - this also messes with the end of your lines and sentences - where if you make a hard page break on what is on your computer screen it comes up as something different on the copied version on the other side.  All of the info offered was good and this is a good point to make when looking at work - especially if you are new and do not know anything different.

If you are counting by dividing characters by 65 characters, no matter what font you use it will be the same. However if you count by gross line -- line charge no matter how many words on a line you will lose money.   But if it is by by every 65 characgers (including spaces) you could use an 8, 9 or 12 font and the charge will all be the same.
font size
Every place I've ever worked or worked for has a default font. You can have text on your screen set at newspaper headline size (like my MT friend who has macular degeneration) and it'll usually default to their 11- or 12-pt font. I'm sure every hospital or MTSO's software specs are different, though.
font size
I think you just go under view and change the text size to whatever you want it to be.
what is your font size set at??
The zoom feature will not affect the size of the printing font, but the font size will. Make sure it is at least 12.
Font size
When I highlight the text it is in the font size I want, but when I insert the autotext it makes the font smaller.
Sorry. Got cut off. Nothing I do can increase the font size.

Font size! I never knew.
What an eye opener. I did not realize this was happening. Thanks for the info to all who submitted to the font thread.
The font is the size of the type, has nothing
to do with the character line count.
Autotext - font size
Hmm, I don't know.  Let me play around with it, and I will get back with you.  I have never had that problem.  When you highlight your text, is it in the font you are wanting, or is it changing from that to a smaller font?  Strange.
Brower font size
I'm drawing a blank and cannot remember how to change the size of print within Internet sites. Can anyone help with this? Thanks
HIPAA laws have nothing to do with font size.
Some in your office don't have a clue, evidently.

A summary of the HIPAA law is posted at the HHS website.
http://www.cms.hhs.gov/HIPAAGenInfo/02_TheHIPAALawandMore.asp#TopOfPage

Or you can go to HIPAA.org.
You have to be working in the default font and size of the
document template to keep autotext from changing. IOW, when you open a document and change the font or size before you start typing, you are not working in the default of the template the document is based on.
The font size could stand to be a tad bigger here for us w/old eyes! Thx. nm

Does anyone have to use size 10 font? Does it take you longer to make your lines? nm
s
Definitely a common font size. Ask if increasing the zoom on your end
s
Do y'all think the size of the font matters in line counts?
If your font is smaller takes more characters to make a line?  I just wondered this today.
Increasing the zoom view does not increase the font size.

Gross line was 7, not 8. Depending on font size and margins
7 cpl is about 8.5 cpl.
I've been seeing a lot on this board about fonts and font size affecting line counts and I was...

wondering how this is possible?  I mean if your lines are based on a 65 character line then what difference does the font type or size make?  I mean, a character is a character whether it's type in Arial, Times New Roman, or Courier.

I use MP Count to count my lines and I decided to do a little test.  I typed a document and saved in Arial 10 and 12 font type and size, Times New Roman 10 and 12 font type and size, and Courier 10 and 12 font type and size.  And then I ran a line report on each individual document counting lines by 65 characters per line strict (no spaces) and came up with 24 lines each time in each font type and size.

There was an MT below who was saying she types in Arial for her client, but bills them for Courier like it made a difference in the lines.  Maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't see how it makes any difference at all.

I agree check with your facility. Enlarging the font size can cause problems once a report uploads

I wrote a macro that would take the font size back down to 100% once I was finished and ready to sign off.  I think I assigned to something like CNTRL+ALT+F and I got into a habit of doing that before hitting whatever function keys to spell check and sign off.  It worked great.

The OP said text not font, but it does increase
all that is on the page, most of which includes the font size.

Like I said, I found this out by accident. Glad it helped you, too. I know I like it.
for changing the size of your text on the screen
you can either:

click Ctrl+ turn the wheel on your mouse

or

click 'View', then 'Text size', then you have 4 options to choose

Largest
Larger
Medium
Smaller
Smallest

Instant Text will pull in whatever font you are using
in your actual document. No worries about types or sizes. You can also insert commands to bold, etc. within your entries, which makes it nice if one account wants bold/cap headings and one doesn't. I work for different hospitals and I have a separate glossary with each hospital name that I use for stuff that is unique to each hospital, i.e. facilities, doctor names, routines and normals by dictator. My MAIN glossary I keep as #1 and I add regular words, phrases, etc., that I would use regardless of hospital. Then I use the *include* feature to pull in the glossary of the hospital I am working on at the time. I love this product. Will never use another Expander again and won't have to, since it works with any windows-based application. I have carried it with me to 3 companies so far, each with a different platform, and I don't have to learn a new expansion program, worry about their IT depts. trying to convert my old expansions, etc. etc. etc.
Both Shorthand and Intant Text inserts the font being used at the time.
//
If you set the default font then you don't have to keep switching for autotext or Instant Text.
Both entries will slip right in with the right font. You should really use templates if you switch a lot so you aren't constantly changing it.
Tiny statements from a tiny mind.

We are trying to figure out how to get out of this screwy place without being screwed any more.

yeah but just barely - sm
I used to do closer to 60K.

Lots of contributing factors to my declining earnings. VR and subsequent reduction in line rate for VR work, then there are also personal issues.

Time for me to get out.
Well I do. AHP barely scratches the
surface of what an MT needs to know, even to begin one specialty like radiology. I know because I took an AHP graduate on. She was an older lady with excellent English skills, but I was shocked at how little her schooling had covered of medical terminology. This was with me working in the same room. If she'd been trying to work from home, it would have been a huge waste of time for a QA department that couldn't give her the one-on-one attention she needed. I only needed temporary help, so I don't if she found employment after the 2 months or so she worked with me. MTs who didn't go to a good school and can succeed starting out these days are few and far between. Anybody trying it is asking for a long, unhappy road.
Gene....who was barely even on the show.
A bit disappointed about that whole thing. But what about Uncle *June* shooting Tony! That was a shock.
I worked as one, too. It paid my bills. Barely.
I hated that job because I could so totally empathize with the people I was collecting from. Plus, we had to be real hardnoses. The thing is that our "numbers" were tied to our bonuses. The more you collected, the more money you made. I lasted 9 months and received two raises and promotions to keep me there before finally finding another job. By that time, I had developed sleeping problems and an ulcer and started smoking again.
We never got short, barely was able to take 2 days off around Christmas.

I can barely type I'm laughing so hard
Yes, you are going to get slammed for saying some of that stuff, but it is Hilarry-ious!!! And, oh so true. Oh, my side hurts!
Barely working 20 hours a week...sm
I have worked for this company for over a year now.  I love the account.  I love the work.  I am used to it and don't want to think about going elsewhere but I am not making squat  I don't get paid by the hour I was just letting you know that is the amount of time I am getting to work due to the fact there is not enough work.  I have never been able to get full time work here but more that this.  I don't know whether to stick it out or look elsewhere.  I only have 1-1/2 years exp so I don't have a lot of options with less than 2 years exp.  I don't know what I should do.  I have asked about a secondary account, but they said they don't need help on any of their other accounts.  Anyone else in this boat?  What to do?
display disarray
Yep, it happens to me. I just call the IT Dept. and the guys there can do something by remote. It might be YOU who's causing the problem. It could definitely be a Dictaphone situation. Call 'em.
Doctors patrolling themselves? What a joke! They barely have time to see ALL their patients....

Doctors today are totally incompetent for the most part.  YOU cannot worry about it when it comes to transcribing their gawd awful reports.  THAT is between the patient and the doc.  Just knock the report out as fast as you can and make sure it's accurate and then after that, forget about it.

The docs make the big bucks - you don't!  Let THEM worry about things that will eventually catch up with them, one of which is called the Karma bug, and that little bug ALWAYS bites those who don't deal fairly right in the butt!  And big time, too!

The largest end goes in the water. nm

Extext - Display Disarray
I'm not sure how to describe this. It has happened a few times to me, and I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong and how to fix it. Here's the problem: Occasionally, my fingers fly and I end up hitting keys that I don't intend to hit. Apparently, I'm hitting some sort of combo that sets of a function that I definitely do not want. At first, it appears as tho Num Lock is on, as when I hit any number keys, I get symbols on my screen. But it happens with more than numbers. It also happens with any punctuation keys, as well. If I try to highlight a portion of the text with my mouse, well... everything just goes kablooey. Click on a bit of text to place the cursor, and an entire paragraph is highlighted. Click again, and more is highlighted. All sorts of stuff happen. I try to Edit - Undo to go back to where I made my mistake, but that doesn't help. Even on my desktop, the strange behavior continues.

I'm not sure what I'm doing when I make this mistake, and I can't seem to fix it. In fact, I can't even shut down the computer to reboot. When I go to Start - Turn off computer - Restart nothing happens at all. I end up having to slam off the computer. Oy! Of course, by the time everything comes up, I've completely lost everything I was working on. This is not a regular occurrence. It happened to me this morning, and it's been months since it happened previously.

Has anyone else had this happen? Do you know what it is and/or how to correct it?
I mean, was it suppose to have a display? if so, then return it

Think you can get there doing Control Panel/Display and

that has a 6-7 digit number that changes about every thirty seconds. You use it as your password to get into certain systems.
