I don't think you can just get updates but have to buy 2nd edition book. I need cheap. I did find one place for $70, anywhere cheaper? I checked the equipment board here for the last month and didn't see any offered.

AAMT BOS second edition-sm
Does anyone have this for sale for a reasonable price or know where I can purchase it for a reasonable price? Thanks in advance.
AAMT BOS Third Edition
Anyone know when the third edition is due to be released?
My 1995 edition (called the 1st edition by most)
is 519 pages long.
Maybe you're thinking of AAMT's old gold Style Guide for Medical Transcription? (though my 1985 edition of that is only 70 pages long)
AAMT BOS 2nd edition cost?
Does anyone know how much AAMT charges for a new BOS? I am looking to purchase the 2nd edition AAMT BOS (have the 1st edition) but cannot get on the AAMT website to comparison shop. I have looked at Amazon and Half.com. Any help or suggestion would be much appreciated.
Do you have the AAMT Book of Style Second edition?

AAMT Book of Style-2nd Edition
I am a new MT, I was wondering if anyone was selling any "AAMT Book of Style-2nd Edition" or the CD Rom version? Also looking for a current Medical Spellchecker?
Please let me know

AAMT constantly changes the rules every time they have a new edition of their BOS to sell.
They've been taking advantage of MT's for years and have no shame. I want no part of it, and never have.

BOS 3rd edition changes sm
For those who do not have the 3rd edition of AAMT BOS, thought I would let you know the changes. Just got my copy. I think some of them will take a lot of reeducation. I do QA, and I know how hard it has been to move everyone toward putting 3-cm lesion. Now we have to tell them it is wrong! Sigh....
* Dropping the use of hyphens with numeric values and metric units when forming compound modifies (2 cm incision rather than 2-cm incision)
*Dropping the use of periods in most lowercased Latin abbreviations, like legal abbreviations (et al, eg, ie, viz, etc) and literary reference abbreviations (p, pp, sec)
*Continued trend toward dropping the use of periods with abbreviated personal and coutesy titles unless it is known that the person in question prefers the inclusion of a period (Dr, Mrs, Jr, Sr)
*Dropping the use of a comma to separate a person's last name from titles, such as Jr, Sr, or roman numerals following a person's last name from titles, such as John H Smith III.
*The inclusion of a space between the numeric value and the degree symbol when expressing temperature values and their scales (using degree sign)
*Dropping the space between parameters when expressing TNM staging for malignant tumors (T2N1M0 rather than T2 N1 M0 OR T2, N1, M1)
*Dropping the use of subscripts with EEG electrode references.
Stedman's 4th edition is even better...
than the 3rd. It's true there may not be every single radiology term in Stedman's, but I don't know of ANY reference, text or electronic, that has every know term. For any book on ANY specialty to have every conceivable term is impossible - unless we want books 10 feet thick.
stedman edition
u dont know how much i appreciated this bit of orientation. I just started my first oficial transcription job at a nephrologist office. I'm so proud of myself after trying in within two years to KICK my foot in the door. This week has been tough but I'm learning and quickly catching on. I just cant wait till I can effortlessly fly through my reports. Thanks for the advise. I will purchase my book through ebay tonight.
thank you again,

Thank you Cindi, I do have that one, 28th Edition.

Error in Book of Style 2nd edition!?
Hey! I just paid over $60 for this dang BOS (my new employer requires I have one), so I'm studying it diligently, and on page 297 they're referring to Salter-Harris fractures as "Slater-Harris". Thought I was going nuts, checked Stedman's and they say its Salter. Am worried there are other errors in it, and I won't know it! Do they publish their bloopers anywhere?
I'm not a member of AAMT (and probably never will be, I'm not a joiner), but I'm pretty doggone disgusted I just shelled out that kind of money for published errors, especially after reading repeatedly in the book how regular MTs aren't worthy of putting letters after their name unless they've been certified by the all-knowing AAMT! Guess I'd never pass their test since I'd say Salter-Harris instead of Slater!
Anyway, I feel ripped off, especially since all editors/employers act like the AAMT is holy like the pope! Thanks for listening to me vent!
You need the Book of Style, 2nd Edition, to work out here. Some used

Turbo Tax Home Business Edition! Tax Q's!!
OK, I know you probably are sick of taxes, but here I am just getting started, as usual. I always owe so much $$ that it makes me sick, and so I procrasinate. At any rate, I had used Turbo Tax Home Business for several years and it was GREAT until last year. Then they changed the program and it tanked for me, but I have high hopes that maybe this year its better and improved??? My problem is that I work for a company - that big one who shall remain nameless, and am an employee, but I always take the home office deduction -- have done so for 20 years, as my home is taken over by my office. At any rate, last year on Turbo Tax Home Business you could NOT enter your rent or mortgage or any utilities off of a W2 form - you had to be an IC. I also am a per diem IC, so I have a few hundred dollars in W9 forms. But Turbo Tax last year would NOT let me use this home office deduction - it couldn't recognize it from a technical aspect with the W2 form. I'm just about to blow $100+ on the online version, and thought maybe I'd ask here first. Has anybody used Home Business edition TT this year? Is it great like it used to be? Any snags? I know I was not alone last year with this business office deduction as April 14th this board and all other MT boards were jammed up with hundreds of us trying to figure out how to manually override this snag! With no luck.... Anybody have any experiences with TT this year? Those are my only deductions, by the way - just home office and utilities, no other itemizations. So it should be easy.... LOL! LOL!
This is getting ridiculous. I REFUSE to buy yet another edition of the BS of Style.
Those broads at the AHDI or whatever it is called now have too much time on their hands! They need to get real jobs. Get back out there in the trenches, have someone QA the crap out their work, and see how they like every changing quicksand of MT.

I won't work for a company that requires me to pay long distance
After getting reamed over by one MTSO who verbally promised to pay my unlimited long distance bill and didn't. I have no use for long distance because I use an inexpensive calling card or the Internet.
Company requires a C-phone. Will a Lanier Lx-219 work as well? sm
What is the difference in a Dictaphone, C-phone, Lanier LX-219 and Lanier Expresswriter or Voicewriter?

If you search the posts, I think the Company board, you will find that the monies paid to AAMT
for CMT/RMT cerifications are being used to offer "India" rates to workers in India to test for their CMT/RMT cerifications. I REFUSE TO BELONG TO SAID ORGANIZATION AND I WILL NOT CONTRIBUTE MY HARD-EARNED FUNDS TO HELPING INDIANS GET CREDENTIALED.
It was for a job, which requires me to ....sm
download ExpressScribe. I am trying to get this on there and it won't let me. To take the test, I have to have this ExpressScibe. So that is why I was trying to do it.
If it requires that much knowledge
above the normal they might consider paying a wage for it - starting .07 cpl doesn't exactly scream you're valued for your knowledge.
Editing requires a somewhat different set of SM
talents and skills, Carole. Some make more, some less, depending on that. Also, very important, depending on how the lines edited are being counted compared to the amount of work required--this can vary widely, even within a company depending on which account being worked on.
Excuse me, but VR requires the same
skill as a QA also. It would be exactly like reviewing a report sent to QA as it has to often times be corrected for grammar, punctuation, spelling, words, etc.; just as if an MT had sent it in for a question.
That doesn't even matter if the DOJ only requires your
SSN and address. The criminal background checks aren't coming from the DOJ. The MTSO or national is requiring a criminal background check. That's their prerogative. You either submit to the criminal background check, or you look for work elsewhere. It's that simple. There is NO law requiring background checks. It's not a violation of privacy because you agree to it before it's done. As the other poster said, what's wrong with it if you've got nothing to hide? Many times, you're getting a computer and access to people's private health records. I don't want a criminal having access to my medical records.
Co. requires outdated version...
Trying to get started with Focus and they require Microsoft Office Professional 2003. I cannot get this from a reputable company. They tell me that 2007 is not compatible with their system, but the people from microsoft doesn't see how it couldn't be. Does anyone know a legal and reputable way to get this?
I have 1 year of experience. Does anyone know of another good company that willh hire PT with this experience. Thanks.
But QAing requires much more knowledge
and experience than VR editing. They can hire newbies to do VR editing, but not QA.
If the law requires that a patient's record be
protected by HIPAA, and HIPAA laws have no effect overseas, wouldn't it logically be a violation to send the record overseas?
Only if your city requires it. I work as an IC
and my city does not require a business license for this.
My question is why do you want that kind of pressure in a job that requires you to
work 80 hours a week? If working 80 hours is part of the job at any given time, why would you want it?
Becoming a nurse requires education and certification.
MT does NOT. A flying monkey could become an MT with a little training. Some people make it sound as if we're doing brain surgery here. Honestly, we are glorified typists. Anyone who thinks it's more than that is just trying to feel better about being a medical typist. I get slammed all the time for this opinion, but the harsh reality of it is that this is NOT a difficult field to get into IF you have the proper skills. Don't slam someone for being a nurse and wanting to transition to MT. She has more education and certification in the medical field than we do. As long as she has good grammar, spelling, research, and typing skills, SHE WILL DO GREAT!!!! Why do people have to be so egotistical and negative on these boards? We ought to encourage newbies getting into the field instead of telling them it's too difficult or they aren't qualified. Hey, let's just alienate all the newbies and send the work overseas to people who don't have EFL skills.
You need Microsoft's Word. It is a program that requires
installation. The account sounds good at 13/cent a line. Better invest in Word (costs a bit) unless you have a kind friend who will share theirs with you.
Thanks for all the info. I will check and see what my State requires(nm)

PA requires you to charge sales tax on your work...
if you send your completed work to a MT company or doctor within PA. However, I send my work out of state, so I don't have to charge sales tax and I don't need a license. I had asked someone at one of the companies I IC for and she said that she had heard of that before from one of the other girls. When I lived in WA state, I had a business license from the state and had to file every year. The sales tax thing was a real shock to hear at first!
