I had the same thing with a client in Indiana - did their work for 5 years

Then someone from Connecticut stole the account - underbid me, and the work just kept getting slower and slower, and I asked questions of what was going on, and no answer. Finally the girl that USED to send the work to me called me and told me they were going with Mary's service, and I should be looking for something else, and that they had no intention of telling me because they were using me for stats, etc. (I didn't charge extra for stats, and she did).
So Mary, I know who you are, and I hope RP's dictation is driving you NUTS!
There I feel better.

My client of 6 years did the same thing. SM
They loved me, loved my work, but it made no sense to pay me what they were paying me when the software did what he considered an acceptable job.
I can't really blame him but it was $1000 monthly that was suddenly gone. It really hurt me in my pocketbook.
I found somebody else. I would work at a convenience store before I'd lower my rates.
I am looking for in house rad work in Indiana. sm
where are you located? I love radnet!
Guidelines are one thing, but if your client wants it transcribed a certain way, just do it.

For years, I was IC with only one client. Never a problem.
:
ICs work for more than one client, always.

It's up to the client how they wish their work done.
Yes, I know it is our initials on the report. I've done work for hospitals and physicians who want pure verbatim, modified verbatim, an old version of BOS and their own modifications, updated BOS, no BOS and no verbatim, and "just type what I say that's what I pay you for." The one thing you can do to cover yourself is just save your work to a CD/floppy/Zip. If you don't feel comfortable about something, flag it for QA and let them make the last decision, but at least you have your original to go by in case something happens along the way. You have proof of what you typed and what was changed at the other end.
Do I need both a client and a server for this to work?
I am a little confused. I get how FTP works, but not sure what I need to do to make it work...if that makes any sense.
But consultants work with the client and sm
make it their point to find out everything they can. This guy is only trying to help. He may not know all about our business, but I think if people would listen and learn.........
There are a lot of good ideas that float around on the board, but how about putting them all together and really doing something?
I guess it depends on what company or client you work for. nm

Does PC ShortHand work on Emdat or Word Client?
And if so how do I get it to work when using these platforms?
Offshore work is rarely client ready. Who is going to edit

How do you get the shorthand word expander to work in 'word client'?

Part-time work using Extext/word client/dictaphone
Anyone know any companies that are hiring that use this system? I really want to start part-time and then probably commit to full time later. I really want a company that supplies your equipment! Thanks.
Same thing with nationals. You work all the time to keep the account caught up when others dont work
and then when they decide to put a whole lot of extra people on your accounts and run you out they could care less about how much you worked.
Went thru Same Thing 2 years ago this month!
PLEASE be very careful. I know you're worried, but PLEASE contact an attorney ASAP. Go thru your state if you need a low cost attorney or free one. The same EXACT THING happened to me 2 years ago to this month. We had a landlord who we rented from for over 10 years, and then he held a mortgage for us. All was checked on by lawyers and was on the up and up. Anyhoo, we never got behind, but the market in our town tripled in 1 years' time. We had settled on a price of 179,900, I believe, and the next year the market boomed in our area. The house was now worth around $400K, or so the landlord dreamed. This SCUM, who was a very seasoned landlord/mortgage holder filed papers BEHIND OUR BACKS, declaring that we were months and months behind on the mortgage, and hadn't paid him a cent. Total lie, and we laughed cause he TOLD us via the phone that he wanted to resell the house and make some real $$$ and that we were "schmucks". I called an attorney, who knew my scumlords' attorney. This lawyer begged me to give up and get out ASAP, as this lawyer was crooked and would pull anything to get us out, as it was happening all over the county to hundreds of families. I went thru legal aid, had all my paperwork supporting our case, including the obvious cancelled checks. Know what he did? His lawyer had someone in the Court Clerk's office who was "paid off", and the whole case was scheduled before a judge and I NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE til it was all over. I could NOT believe this happened to me, in AMERICA, no less. I lost my home and most of my friends and even family. NO ONE believed us that we had not missed 1 stupid payment! Two years later, now they know the truth, but its too late for us - it was the most terrifying, humiliating, frustrating experience I have ever lived thru. All is well 2 years later and I am SO much happier where we are now - and renting, too!! Just like another poster said, I call the landlord if its breaks! And this new landlord mentioned to us that we were "such great tenants, he would be willing to hold the mortgage for us". We freaked out and said NO THANKS!! This is a very brief summation, but suffice it to say that as long as the mortgage is held privately by a person, that person can be really crooked and do whatever they want. I never thought it could happen, but it sure happened to me, and I'm no legal slouch, either! Good luck to you.
Huh? I have used it everyday for at least two years and never had to buy a thing. nm
Yes......same thing happening to me, after 25 years. sm
I am tired all the time.....I think I need a change or 2nd job doing something else, other than MT.
My butt hurts from sitting too long, day in and day out, even after exercising and walking daily.
I am burned out also.....I feel your pain.
Had Lasik done years ago, best thing
Vision so bad before and got to where I was having trouble just seeing with any kind of aid. I love my new sight. Was told prior to having if I wore reading glasses for smaller print that would not change but made no different as I was really nearsighted and now excellent sight.

I have over 16 years experience and I have been experiencing the same thing
I've sent out at least 10 resumes in the past week or two and only 1 or 2 responses and then nothing. I think it's just a sign of the times. Sometimes, I feel like having too much experience is a hindrance because these companies who only want to pay 1-3 cpl for VR etc.. know it's an insult so they hope for some newbie to accept their office. This biz has gone down the drain!!!!
At this for 30+ years. I think the thing to remember is yes, it is a business, when I am home to w
working. One thing I do to start off is treadmill every morning 30 minutes, just walk, no vigorous jogging too old, just enough to get those endorphins working and then start with my cup of coffee. I don't answer the phone for anyone unless its my mom. She only call is if something is wrong, otherwise I let the machine pick it up. I will if I have personal calls for myself take time when no work or do that rather than lunch for 40 minutes or so. I do the hour stretch. I also use weights, free weights by my desk I use to lift and stretch out my neck and arm muscles. I also use a ball twice a day to lie on and roll out the shoulders. This enables me to keep at it. No house chores. After I am done I do those. My kids are raised, but this job always enabled me to be here at home for them. I worked nights for a long time too broke up my work time when they were younger. So everything at home is workable with the right approach. Just remember, you are working, just because your home don't take personal calls. I don't think I would have done this for this many years if it was not work the $$. Be creative in your own routine have fun with it and make it work enjoyable. We can go out and have coffee in the sun on the deck in our PJs for our breaks, so remember the flexibility factor there.
Indiana?
If this is the company in Indiana who has Louisville accounts, be forewarned. The accounts are nearly all ESL, the system they use to type isn't very good and the spellcheck is horrible. They also bounce payroll checks and there are no set paydays.
Not Indiana sm
No business license is required in Indiana.
I live in Indiana
this is the first year that our state has had to change time officially, however for years we have been dealing with two different times "fast time" and "slow time"... My husband and I worked on fast time (we changed our clocks), my son went to school on "slow time", my county was right on the edge of the time change, If I made a right at the end of my road I was heading into "fast time", If I made a left I was heading into "slow time"... very confusing and a real PAIN... We are so happy that we are officially changing to Daylight Savings time with the rest of this country this year as a state. It will make my life so, so much easier. I believe only Indiana, Arizona and Hawaii were the only states that did not "change their clocks" and I, for one, am happy that Indiana is finally changing!

Northwest Indiana MTs
I am from Northwest Indiana and have Comcast. It is always down. Does anyone else from Northwest Indiana have this problem with Comcast? Are there other companies out there to choose from? My husband swears up and down that Comcast is all we can get here. I know south of us there is Nitco, but I do not believe you can get it where I live. Any information would be helpful. I am trying to obtain a new at-home position and am worried about the Internet connection going down on me while I am working.
today it is 2.49 a gallon, NE Indiana

Indiana Unemployment Question
Someone just told me that Indiana unemployment has changed, in that you now have to wait six weeks for your first check. Does anyone know if this is correct or not?
Help, Mediscribe of Indiana, NOT MedScribe of FLA, need to know....sm
I am so confused, the recruiter called me out of the blue last night, don't remember dropping a resume there, but she had my resume....anyway, offered great IC position, great pay, lots of good points, sent contract....but I THOUGHT I was speaking with MedScribe, does ANYBODY know/know of Mediscribe of Indiana? It all sounds great, but I want a GOOD company, and whenever I do a search, I keep coming up with posts about MedScribe. TIA!!!
I'm in North Central Indiana
and have used ATT/yahoo DSL. Not sure if this would work for your or not, but I've used it for years and very rarely have problems.

I'm in East Central Indiana and
have Comcast. When we first had it, it was down all the time. It turned out to be a faulty modem, which they had supplied. Once they changed that out, they have been incredibly reliable. It is very, very rare that they are down, and if they are it is usually less than an hour.
It was in Indiana. Loved the job. Even miss
it sometimes. But not meant to be, I suppose.
Man, its HOT in Indiana! Talk about global warming!
How 'bout where U live?
I'm from Northeast Indiana and have Comcast. I have few problems SM
with Comcast being down, but when I do I usually unplug everything from the modem and wait a few seconds, plug it back in and I'm good to go.
You are in Maine, right Hayseed? I am in Indiana, and I totally agree SM
with you. It has been bitterly cold the past week with snow most every day, including today. I am glad I dont have to go out in it.
I get frustrated over the same issues as other MTs, but I just do what you said, walk away and try to keep a good attitude.
It seems it does not pay to work and to the right thing...
Sometimes I want to just sit back and kick and scream. Work my ____ off and still can't keep up with the stacks of bills or calls calling about the bills. When my son was born with an illness I could have taken the easy way out like so many do. He has a life long illness that qualifies him for benefits but my DH and I make too much money. LOL. He's a teacher and I'm scraping by with transcribing. Sometimes I think why should I bust my butt when I can sit back and collect "benefits" and be there for my child when so many people do this. Taxes and the increase of cost of living expenses are about to do us in.
So sad how I work so much harder now doing the same thing...

Good thing you work at home
Hopefully one day when you need to vent, you at not treated the way you treat others but what goes around does come around.

I do the same thing now and then, have a glass near the end of my work, usually takes me an
I find it relaxes me a little and I type a little faster, but I certainly don't do it on a daily basis, maybe Friday or Saturday night when I am winding down. As for the open bottle, get a vacuum system for it--rubber "cork", then pump the air out of the bottle, it will keep for a LONG time, no more tossing of flat wine. Works great!
There is such thing as taking pride in your work. nm
This is ironic. We are going through the same thing at the company I work for. sm
They want to set the standard at 15 dictated minutes per hour for clinic, 150 lines per hour for HIM and 15 reports an hour for radiology and cardiology. Can anyone tell me if we are in the ballpark? Are these realistic? I am a lead and do not want to scare off my team, but I think we do not get the dedication that we could.
Can anyone else share their quotas with companies (no names necessary) or hospitals?
Are we getting lazy or are expectations too high?
Everyday thing for me. I work till sleepy, then set my SM
phone not my clock to ring. I get about 5 hours every night, have for years.
Ten years ago work was being
I find this nothing new. It is just accelerating. I wouldn't recommend this field to anybody new, unless they are ready to eventually find something different.
Remember back in the 60s and 70s, the steel industry was oursourced to Japan. Now I think it is going to China. It never came back. Everything is being outsourced. We are losing (or have almost lost) our manufacturing industry. The jobs go to where they can pay a few dollars a day and get away with it, they don't have to pay taxes, no environmental protection, no worker rights, unemployment, social security, etc.
I don't know what will happen with this country if this trend continues. I hear politicians say the answer to outsourcing is Americans should go to college and get degrees and become doctors, lawyers, etc. These jobs are also being outsourced. They already are reading our x-rays in India by outsourced radiologists. Now I hear an insurance company is encouraging their customers to go to a foreign company for surgery. Go by a pair of pants. They are all made in China, it seems everything is.
This is those "fair" trade agreements our government has made. And don't blame just the Republicans and Bush, this started back with Cliniton. The Democrats and Republicans are equally guilty. I don't know what the answer is. The world is changing and that is a fact of life. My strategy is to just try and make sure my family is provided for.
After 25 years, nope. Just work. But I used to. nm

I work for a company in NY and they had to do this a few years ago. I think sm
that most will need to do this as the IRS does not think that MTs are eligible to be ICs.
The company that I work for had to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines because of it all.
For insurance, for professional liability insurance, I was told that you have to be incorporated. I don't have a problem with this. If I hired someone to build an addition for me, I would want him/her to have insurance. Why should medical records be any different?
I actually make more as an employee. I still take my deductions as unreimbursed employee expenses (per my CPA), take home office expense and do not have to pay the 7+ % for SS match that the employer usually does.
I have work going back years - sm
others keep it a month or two. I have one doctor who sees patients on a yearly basis, I pull the previous report so I don't have to retype a lot of it, as he basically repeats the old one with a few changes, I'd have a lot more work to do otherwise. I have another account that constantly misplaces their work, I have to retrieve work from months earlier because they cannot find their copy. I can either pull it from my stash, or the MTSO has a FTP where we back up all our work just for this purpose, she keeps it all there going back years. I have no idea how often she cleans it out, but she hasn't in the almost 2 years I have been with her. On another note, I only keep the sound files for a month, then I dump them.
We bought a boat, damn thing keeps breaking down and I have to work more now for repairs.
Well, I have 25 years experience also in all work types
and only do acute care with a line rate of 10.5 cpl M-F and 11 cpl on the weekends.
You can negotiate it a little harder, and you will get it depending on their needs, I guess.
It is MDI-Maryland.
