Trigger Point Advice
I am in need of some advice. I have been dealing with a trigger point in my right trapezius area for the past 2 to 3 years. Two injections with no relief, and now physical therapy with minimal relief. Anyone out there have any suggestions on how to either deal with the pain or eliminate it? Obviously a long vacation would probably cure it, but that is absolutely not an option. Even my physical therapist is frustrated. He's been taping my back to correct my posture. Using a TENS unit. Went yesterday for probably my last visit and it has tripled in size since my visit earlier this week on Tuesday.
This thing is just unbearable to live with. I love my job and not willing to change vocations, but this pain is out of control!! Someone has to have some advice for me!!!

I go through the entire dictation first, then go back and relisten
for any blanks. Sometimes by the end of the report I've learned the accent and can fill in the blanks.

I feel your pain! This is the time of year sm
when I take advantage of my Netflix subscription, having movies delivered to my home. Also, there is PLENTY of great entertaining, informative stuff on the "cable" channels (I have a dish). I'm hooked on HGTV and DIY. The Food channel makes me way too hungry so I avoid that one. You can take a "mini vacation" just by watching the Travel Channel. Even the Weather Channel has some interesting shows.
No leg or back pain here
I do try to sit up straight and hold in my abs, which helps the back. I also try to remember to breathe deeply once in awhile - raise up your rib cage and take in a good deep breath. I also switch the pedal foot, sometimes use the left and other times the right. I started doing that long ago when I got to thinking - what if I had a cast on my right foot, how would I work? Started using both feet - solved that problem.
My problem is my shoulders. I do shoulder rolls at my desk and also do stretching. They still get tight though.
And my RIGHT THUMB! From hitting the spacebar so often. When that gets bad, I pad it with a Band-Aid.
back pain
This is probably more info than you want, but I had the same problem a few years ago. I'm soon to be 52. Had to see a chiropractor after a while. He told me it is called "tailor's seat" and the best thing to do at home is ice 20 minutes at a time, do not sit in a recliner, take ibuprofen and if you can afford it, get chiropractic treatments; if not, I would suggest using a massage therapist. I actually have done both. The ice worked the best for me. I still do it sometimes. I also bought a spine cushion for my desk chair. That helps, too. Good luck.
Back pain sm
Have had this problem for years. Tried everything. The best cure for me is one of those microwaveable heat packs you can pick up from a mall kiosk, is made of cotton with rice-like material inside and perhaps some fragrance. You can make your own but would suggest you buy one, as wouldn't want it to be flammable. After all I have tried, a few Tylenol and the hot pack, lying flat on my back for perhaps 15 min., gently relieves the spasm/pain. Believe me, I have tried every gadget, PT (works for the session, then back to pain), have everything ever made for back pain and you have to be your own therapist. Try heat, rest, lie flat and at night, instead of Tylenol PM I use plain Tylenol and a Benadryl (sometimes 50 mg (2) help me to sleep. Getting the stress off your back is the only way in our profession. It hurts!
Back/neck pain
If anyone responds to the post about upper back/neck pain, please let me know - I have the exact same problem, and it makes long hours just miserable sometimes! Thanks in advance!!
Upper back pain
In the past I have had the same problem, but I found that when I lowered my chair it was greatly improved. It seems I can type faster with my chair higher, but when I lower my chair I have much less pain. It is something to do with the angle in which my arms are.. When they are pretty much level with the keyboard that is a great improvement in the pain, although I have to sacrifice a little bit of speed it is well worth it. I also use a split keyboard which also seems to make an improvement in my pain. I have been at this work for 30 years and believe me I have had pain in all parts of my body related to sitting in this chair in the same position for many hours at a time. I wish you well.

Back pain and chairs.
Go for the pillows. I tried to splurge a while ago and get a new chair, took it back and got a new pillow. I use a thin pillow for my bottom and a nice orthopedic pillow for my back. I'm tempted to try the keyboard on my lap like I've seen suggested here but my husband just brought me a new keyboard tray from a teardown job he was doing that sells for almost 200.00. I think he'd be hurt if I didn't try it.
Any knee/back pain sufferers out there? sm
What are your favorite shoes to wear that don't make your knees hurt? My back doesn't hurt if I wear Birkenstocks but my knees hurt if I do. I've tried countless types of arch supports and the ones that help my knees don't help my back. I have arthritis in both areas and the cartilage in my knees are shot due to degeneration. Yesterday I wore my Birkenstock inserts I recently got in my sneakers while I ran around Wal-Mart and boy am I ever paying for that today - my knees are killing me! Any advice would be appreciated.
Ergonomics for upper back pain?
I have been having tremendous problems with upper back pain right between my shoulder blades and up into my neck and right shoulder for weeks now. It makes typing just miserable.
Doc said I had brachial plexopathy, and gave me narcotics and told me to quit transcription. Since that isn't an option -- any ideas as to how to keep from getting this excruciating pain after an hour of typing? It goes away on weekends when I don't sit at the computer, so I'm sure it's largely related to my positioning. I've tried to fix my posture, but sitting up completely straight hurts worse than slouching.
Share any stretches, techniques for arm positioning, etc. I will be extremely grateful.

Ergonomics for upper back pain
I find that it helps to get up and do a few stretch exercises. I have a 3-minute workout and microbreaks pamphlet that my husband got from his work that shows and explains some exercises including neck and back stretches. It does help when you get stiff from sitting and typing for so long. If you want me to type it up for you, just let me know and I will.
positioning footpedal; leg and back pain
Does anyone else have problems with back or leg tingling they feel is due to using a foot pedal? I switch feet but have low back pain and leg tingling I feel is due to depressing and letting up on the footpedal, etc. I have read some use a foot rest but I assume one would have to be custom built so that you could place the foot pedal on it plus your other foot. I wonder if sitting all day with your feet on a foot rest since they are built at an angle would cause problems, too. I read somewhere about an MT using a recliner which sounded comfortable but I wonder how in the world you could use a foot pedal placed on the foot rest of a recliner. If anyone has any suggestions for me I would truly appreciate it. If I don't find something soon, I am afraid I am going to have to go part-time or maybe even find a different profession.

I had the same problem and had my honey make me a ramp for my pedals. one rectangle pice of wood with a 2 inch strip to give it a "lean." I have one for each pedal so it looks like I drive a stick while working. LOL not only helped the back pain, but my thighs don't swell as much either.
Know of any good chairs for back pain?
I have been using a $20 task chair from Wal-Mart for the past three years, I am sitting her now six months pregnant about ready to die from upper and lower back pain. Anyone have suggestions for a good quality chair they like, right now money is not an option, I would pay big $$$ for just a little relief.
back/shoulder/neck pain
last year I started out like that and so I checked the ergonomics of my keyboard, etc. I wound up moving my mouse to my left hand and that helped somewhat but later developed symptoms of a frozen shoulder. Do you get an extreme burning sensation? It took me a year to recover. I feel your pain.
Hand pain - needing to cut back lines per week. Anyone else done this?
I have so much hand and wrist pain from all this typing. I only do 5000-6000 lines per week and that is torture. By the end of the week I have slowed down so badly it is ridiculous. I think I am going to have to cut way back before I trash my hands and wrists for good. Has anyone else had this problem and cut back on MT work? I'm trying to think of other jobs I could do for a few hours a day to make up the difference ($$)that don't involve typing.
Does anyone have any good ideas for back and hip pain from sitting all day? Anything on the market?

Back to the point.....
I live in Florida, and we have had really bad press all the way around from ruining the presidential elections, to harboring sex offenders, etc., etc. We, however, have had major coverage of many black, Asian and Hispanic children missing, mostly children of very low income and those in the "system" in foster care, etc.
As another poster noted, it is impossible to cover each and every incident, someone, somewhere at some time is going to be upset because something was not "covered". The subject about supposed lack of coverage on the missing of the poor and people of other ethnic backgrounds has been raised relatively recently on some of the TV news shows. This is a "generalization". If you stop and think about it, there has been quite a bit of coverage on others.

I don't know where the animosity is coming from. Noone was being hateful about anything. I think it's a fair enough statement to say to her with your experiences and mine both that it's about even on the amount of companies that pay by report and pay by the line. Was just trying to let her know that by the report was not the end all to be all out there for rad. There are still alot of companies that pay by the line.
Secondly, I am very happy for you that you are making such great money getting paid by the report. I wish I had the same opportunities in front of me that you have had so I could make the better choice, but obviously I haven't had that. I would love to get better pay for what I do and have done for so long, but I have had to make the decisions based on the offers in front of me at the time.
You really didn't need to be so nasty about it...I wasn't trying to say nobody out there gets paid as well as you by the report...I was simply trying to make sure she understood that alot of us are still drudging along with by the line pay.

I saw them in concert about a year back...
It was at a venue that was tiny, compared to most places anyways. They were on a stage that would spin around. It was so intimate and probably the best concert I have been to. The opening band was awesome too, Lennon. It was mostly just her playing the piano and singing. Awesome, awesome time. And, this is coming from a 26-year-old who loves them! lol
I went back to school this year
In my area both the RN-AD and dental hyg. programs have wait lists, however the dental hyg. wait is like 4 years versus the RN wait being 1-1/2 years. I am just finishing up all my gen eds and I should be off the wait list and into the core program next fall. I am taking extra psych classes to fill my "elective" courses as I was told that hospitals prefer nurses with their BSN to have psych minors, and I'm only in the AD program (associate degree), but I can still list extra psych courses on my resume. I wish you the very best of luck!!!

Upshot? There WAS memory loss happening. It was not due to hormones. Middle-aged women were SO busy and SO stressed and had SO many things on the brain and things to do and places to be and things to remember about spouse, kids, job, parents, extended family, that they were STRESSED TO THE POINT THEY COULD NOT REMEMBER IT ALL! Bah on the hormone theory. We just get full up to our eyeballs of all the things we have to do and something has to give.
Like, spelling the word school or something. No can do, school does not exist in this brain any more, it got kicked out so I can remember to pick up beer on the way home!

I'm 46 and I went back to school this year full time for a BSN...sm
I was worried about because, let's face it, my short term memory isn't what it used to be LOL. Plus the program is ONLY full time. They had 1000 applicants and picked the top 70 of us. If you didn't have a 3.5 GPA, you didn't get in. But I am doing really well in school - after I got past the shock of the first 6 weeks - tons of work- and I am at the top of my class. My husband, bless his heart, is doing all the cooking and we are basically kind of ignoring the dirt. My house will be clean again another day. I am finishing up my second semester, have 3 more semesters for a BSN, and then another 2.5 years to get my masters and be an advanced practice nurse. 41 is definitely not too old! You will have to work smart to save your back but it can be done. Also MT is starting a slow slide out...you would be smart to start your second career now while you still have a job... IMHO

Actually it broke the 15, the night before we left for Disney on a Make-A-Wish trip for my daughter Jenny....(we had a blast)...got back 2 days ago, it broke again that night (21st). DH got it running again, but the heater guy disassembled it last night and has not returned yet to put it back together and fix it. Luckily we have a propane fireplace or we'd be in big trouble, still chilly though especially since it goes down to 25 at night, brrrr!---so any $$$ if we are included or entitled would be wonderful...but I doubt we will get so lucky since it was so long ago that I was a "member" of AOL. Guess I will just have to work even more to pay for the repair, fun.
Yes, I lost 42 pounds on LA Weight Loss, but gained back 50 a little more than a year later . .
I was on the program for approximately four months and lost 40 pounds. The weight did come off really fast. At the time I was a member, there was a rebate if you kept the weight off for one year. It sounded good, but you had to buy the supplements for the entire year, which by the end of the year added up to a few thousand dollars.
In any case, after I finally lost the weight, I got pregnant with my fourth child. I am now trying to lose the 50 pounds that I gained while pregnant, but my metabolism seems so much slower now. The weight isn't coming off nearly as fast as before. :(
My 8-year-old threw up on the way home from family celebration Christmas Eve, all over the back seat
Then threw up approximately every hour from 10:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. Christmas morning. Not the Christmas I had planned, up cleaning bodily fluids all night. Somehow Santa managed to come overnight, too. My husband, me and the 2-year-old didn't get the bug until last night, it's vicious! Hopefully that's all over now and we can enjoy the rest of our vacation!

Some doctors do give standard discharge summaries, so you could just make copy and then pull it up. It is not easy, especially when they give 20 lines of lab results.

Seems to me like QA should get dinged, not the MT.
TRS is your typical admin-heavy, treat the MT like a number company, made more offensive by their assumption that everyone in America is "Christian" and will adore prayer requests and other off-topic crap on the company email.
