I guess ya'll missed the point, but not surprising

I asked for opinions only of people who had SEEN the movie, oh well. I saw it and found it very sad, sad that people are condemned for who they love!!!

You missed my point I

being a roadside idiot holding a stopandgo sign.

that is the bottomline.

I have many years of experience of transcription.

If you don't see the writing on the wall of where MTing is going - well, whoa be it for me

to explain it to you.

I'm just bowled over by the fact that after this many years

my experience is worth less than if I had never learned

how to type, learned English grammar, learned to type 100 cwpm, struggled my way through computer education on my own,

learned medical terms, drug names and values, learned foreign

dialects, learned many specialties .......that here 30 years later I

can hold a sign and make the same money.

But you stay in the field if you feel like you will come out ahead.

Since they have turned the career into a profit making machine for

a bunch of suits - the respectability of it and the career side of it

seems to me has flown out the window and the MT has become nothing

more than a part of that apparatus that can be replaced at their whim, and rather

cheaply -

LOL. I think you missed my point, too. sm
I said benefits "should" be paid to employees, not that employers were required to pay them.  That is one of the main reasons people choose to be employees, the benefits.  Hopefully, your MQ PTO has improved.  When I left them approximately 4 years ago the PTO was a measly 3 days for the whole year to include holidays, sickness, and vacation.    At least now I have 6 paid holidays plus 10 days PTO a year plus other benefits including company-paid life insurance, short and long term disability, etc.
The point you missed is...

The OP never said that her supervisor asked MTs to work extra.  If your supervisor asks you to work extra and you do, and there is no work for the other MTs during their schedule...then this is a different story.  This would then be considered a problem with management because they are allowing others to work extra and grab another MTs lines.  If MTs are not being asked to work extra and they are anyway, then this is a problem with greedy MTs not working their schedule.  There is a big difference between the two.

The bottom line is:  The problem starts with MTs not working their schedule.  If management does not follow through and take care of the problem, then it becomes a problem with management.

you missed the point entirely.

You missed the point
You *apologize* in order to keep the peace/keep the job WHILE you look for another one, or decide to stay and re-negotiate terms.

I'd never leave an unprofessional comment or email hanging (no matter how much justified) UNLESS I was prepared to allow it to cost me my job.

It takes nothing for a professional to say "Sorry about that statement...etc."
and all I was saying is that ameliorating the situation could save a job you haven't yet replaced.
You missed my point. sm

Obviously if someone is socializing or otherwise not working, no they shouldn't be compensated.  I've been in that situation too. People like that are what drove us to a production-based industry.  I've also worked in-house in places where the newbies refused to do the ESLs and the difficult reports so they never learned.

There are lot of us that do work and work hard that have 20-30 years of knowledge and expertise and are not compensated for it.  Sorry don't think its right for a newbie to make the same amount as someone with 20-30 years experience.  You'll say. "There are some with experience that don't know what I know."  I don't believe a newbie knows what an MT of 30 years' experience knows no matter what.  It just doesn't make sense.  You can't cram 30 years into 1-2 years.

There probably are some imcompetent experienced MTs out there just as there are imcompetent MTs period, but don't lump us oldies altogether.  Of course, nobody knows it all.  When it comes to quality versus production, quality is most important.  IMHO.

No, you MISSED my point.
In the post above, you said you ''NEVER said anybody should walk out or strike or quit anything.''

Yes, you indeed DID, and I quoted just one of the times you did and linked to the post that came from.
Thanks, I guess I just missed that!

Gonna get it ordered today because I have 1 podiatrist who is kicking my butt.

Thanks again!

you screwed up and you know it. you missed the point and you know it.
the jokes on you. hey i'm am more than happy to have the router give you the hard stuff. whatever. i got bills to pay and when they route crap to you, i keep the good stuff.
You missed the point because it is on your head.
You are a typical QA person who needs the last word. Get the point? Have a look in the mirror.
Geez, you missed my point.
Benefits are not mandatory.

You totally missed the point
Educated = higher credibility in the world of employment/success.

Smart does not necessarily mean common sense (whatever that is supposed to mean). Smart can mean lots of things - like making better choices, like having self-respect, like not needing to belittle others to make ourselves feel validated.

Sounds like you have some sour grapes going on for your family members. Try saying something positive about people. You'll be amazed at how more intelligent and classy you come across.
I am sorry to hear that you missed it by a point, -sm
I know how frustrating and disappointing that must be. As for the visiting relatives who could not hear "this is not a good time to come, how about another weekend" which your husband inferred---guess he should have been more to the point, but regardless of that, I would have just ignored their presence completely, telling them you had to study, and let your husband deal with/entertain them. My in-laws come about once a month on a Sunday, which is my work day for my weekend work. Though I try to do it on Saturday, I usually don't have it done or at least not all of it. So I work when they visit. They are well aware I will most likely be working when they visit. They don't come to see me or my DH, just the kids, so they don't care and neither do I. If you do decide to try again, say in a year or whatever, and a similar situation occurs just stick to your guns and do what you gotta do!
You totally missed the point which was...sm

North, south, east and west do not change, correct. It was funny as she said "depends on which way you are coming from." Here in our berg, streets try to be north and south, east and westbound, as that was an east and westbound street they were on. Just killed me, sorry I was entertained.
I think you missed the original point sm
its the "newbies" who ask stuff that they should have learned in school. The everyday stuff such as DTRs and things about rales and wheezes, etc. etc. That is stuff you learn right off the bat not things you ask about routinely. I understand if its a really bad ESL and it doesn't sound like that is what he is saying. But there was a poster on the word board that actually asked had anyone heard of rales and wheezes! Come on! Sounds like somebody trying to do MT that doesn't have a clue at all. There are many more similar posts. You can tell the difference.
It'll be the most expensive magazine subscription you'll ever get! No point in joining. nm

You've missed the entire point!
Duh!  It's the docs who don't want to pay my dear. You're really expecting to get blood out of a turnip, aren't you?  Quit blaming the MTSOs and look at the entity who's calling the shots - The doctors/clinics who hire the MTSO.
So sad. He'll be missed for sure. :( nm

No my elbow doesn't hurt, I think you missed the point.
Once I helped someone I didn't smirk, smile, and pat myself on the back, or bend my elbow. What I did was get on with daily living. Helping people comes in all forms, not necessarily in money form, maybe just smiling at someone who is sad or having a bad day, people have done that for me. Maybe not kicking the dog when you have a bad day, things like that. Not too complicated. Just what we are supposed to do if we are raised right.
Guess you missed the part about deleted posts. Sorry, can't repeat again
nm
Whole point...Told you have the job...Call back, oh sorry, I guess not
You just don't tell someone they have the job, then call back and say, oh I didn't check your test, you didn't do good enough for the job. Sorry.
I guess all the companies finally over-hired to the point they don't need anyone else.
:+
You'll get to the point where you won't see the line at all
Take it easy getting used to them. Wear them a while and take them off if they bug you. I can't work with mine - got computer glasses and don't always wear those. I tried the no-line and didn't like them at all. It's new and will take a few days. Be careful going down steps!!!!!!!!
Good point. I guess if you do not feel comfortable dislosing sm

a list of your clients to your subcontractors, you could only hold them liable if they try to contract work with the clients they know about, i.e. whichever accounts they work on.  If you have accounts with Hospitals A, B, C, and D, but the MT only works for and knows about Hospital A, then seems like she would be within her rights to solicit work from the others since she does not know they are your clients.  I am curious, though, if you have them sign a noncompete clause already and they are working for you, why would you be reluctant to share that information with them?  They would be bound by the contract.  Maybe I am missing something .. I usually do (ha).

Hope you figure out a solution to your dilemma.  :-)

well, I guess I envy ya'll! sm
I think I envy ya'll, anyways. For me, working that much just is not possible.  Of course, I do have three kids at home, plus a husband.  So, I don't know. I'd rather spend time with them than work all the time.  But, I'm not knocking ya'll.  I say if you can do it, go for it! Maybe one day I'll be able to work that much and make the BIG bucks. My hat's off to ya!
Thank you! Guess I'll have to go back...
and try again!
Guess you'll have to come to my house for pizza!

Just finished canning 30 pints of pizza sauce from my homegrown tomatoes, peppers, basil, garlic, oregano and husband grows the onions.  Husband and his brothers own a large crop farm so can and freeze lots of veggies.  Also made salsa last week.  Almost always make my own pizza anymore because of the artificial color problem.  Haven't quite perfected it though (that pizzeria taste) but have got the crust almost "right".  Would be happy to share my recipe for dough.  Also sincere the in the shoulder if you need one- would be willing to share email address to correspond.

Ezcema is such a bummer!!  I have several nephews (husbands side of the family) with it.  Was worse for them when they were younger and has definitely gotten better now that they are older teens now.  Food allergies did seem to be a culprit for them.  Can you believe that when my daughter was totally covered all summer with hives that I went to my mother in law and asked her if anyone in the family had any allergies that she knew of because I was totally at a loss, immediately she said no without a thought.  (Couldn't be anyone in "her family").  Then after I almost killed my daughter with Amoxicillian (strep throat), Gatorade, cough syrup (cold/cough), Benadryl (hives) and Advil (fever) (all of which have red dye which she is most allergic to) and her face and throat swelled up the mother in law suddenly remembered her sister stops breathing if she has artifical food colors.  Golly gee thanks for your help. Her sister has food allergies and so do the nephews thanks for thinking of your granddaughter.

I guess you'll have to wait for the TV version then

Well, I guess I'll take my pay rate as a compliment then.
I graduated top of my class, and no, I didn't go to one of the "Big 3". I was actually hired 1 month before I graduated. I had 5 different job offers from various nationals and I chose one. I do not think 8 cpl is high at all. In fact, when I was doing my research on companies before I graduated, that seemed to be the going rate whether you had experience or not. I consistently type 1200+ lines a day and my QA score is 99%. I feel that 8 cpl is an appropriate rate for a newbie MT, especially when you consider that a lot of companies want to pay that for years of experience. If I only transcribed 1000 lines a day (8 hours), 5 days a week at 8 cpl, that would average out to $10.00 an hour. That is not a lot. I'm a single mom and frankly couldn't work for a company that offered less than 8 cpl.
Guess they'll be in with food poisoning next time
since they ate that gangrene...bwahahahahaha
I do. I guess I'll wait a few mintues before disconnecting from the VPN
after I close out EXText.  I guess I'm just in too big of a hurry to shut down when my shift is over!
I guess we'll stay home and eat Ramen. Hadn't though about food going up too.

Surprising
I'm surprised that no one mentioned in this thread that AAMT and AHDI was/are heavily involved in offshoring and the training/certification of offshore MTs.  IMHO, the conclusion to draw from this is that AAMT/AHDI is not particularly concerned with USA MTs gaining professional pay or, at the very least, it is not a concern/effort that you will find on their priority list.
Why is that so surprising? If the service SM
is $100, $20 is really 20% (a normal tip).
It's surprising how many places are paying 6-8 cpl
even though I know some people make more, cpl is dropping in MT, not rising. If you are not a fast typist, may want to consider doing something else.
More surprising is what the parents are letting them do. sm

My daughter is in 6th grade.  There is a girl in her class who is ELEVEN years old.  Now keep the age in mind for a minute here.

This 11-year-old girl has piercings in one eyebrow, one side of her nose, her bottom lip, her tongue AND her belly button.  Both ears are also pierced all the way around with about 12 studs in each ear.  She wears full makeup and tight, low slung jeans. She told my daughter that she is getting a tattoo for her 13th birthday.

Sort of a "teenage right of passage" so to speak?  After all her parents have pretty much run out of things to give her permission to do.

I've met the "parents" and it's obvious that the apple doesn't fall to far from the tree.

Shall I suggest a uvula piercing for her big 13th?

I didn't apply, so that's a moot point. The point I was making is that
she's ranting here about something that doesn't even pertain to most of us. You can't come to a MT message board railing at MTs without getting a response. That's why it's not called MTSOstars. Also, it's unprofessional of a business owner to let her emotions overrule her common sense. As for the newbies, they'll learn. We were all newbies at one time or another. None of us was born perfect, not even the MTSO.
The point wasn't that it was copyrighted. The point the poster tried to make
:(
That's not my point. My point is previous owner hired

I broke my right ankle slipping on ice and was lucky to have gloves on because the palm of the glove was totally torn up and my hand was okay.

Good luck and be sure to do your exercises when it is time.

I'll vent and I'll sign my name sm
I have two IC contracts right now. I recently went back to a job I had quit earlier in the year to work for the other company I am still working for.

The newer job has 80% ESLs. I transcribe OP notes primarily and I can fill in other work types as the opportunity arises. I am frustrated with this particular situation. After 6 months, I am making less money and working longer hours. I am past the learning curve and I should be doing better, at least in the number of hours I am spending doing the job. We have run out of work for 24 hrs at a time at least 5 or 6 times since December 1, and in November it was more than that. I have a friend who worked for this company as well and she was having similar difficulties. The only thing that we can figure is that they are shorting us line count some way, because after 6 months at it, it should be easier/faster/more money, but it is less and less every single pay period. It is not a nice thing to accuse a company of doing, but it SEEMS that way to us. I am fed up with being expected to type every single OP note that comes in 24/7 and meeting the 6 hr TAT for them on weekends, evenings, holidays, wee hours of the morning...

I took back a job I held for 2-1/2 yrs. The team leader has changed and this gal thinks that I should be on call 24/7 for whenever she has work. I might have some at 7 a.m., or perhaps not until 6 p.m. or later. I can't plan my personal life and between these two IC situations, I find that I am not eating on a daily basis, not showering on a daily basis and not sleeping more than 3 or 4 hours at a time. I have lost weight and I don't feel very well. I woke up today with a rip roaring head cold (my first in nearly 8 yrs) and it has already moved to bronchitis and I am expecting pneumonia by the weekend because I develop it very easily. I already have deep pain in my back.

Yes, I should call in sick tomorrow, but I really can't take the fallout. The job I took back I am covering for another gal who wanted vacation over the holidays and if I have to call in sick, the team leader will call me and pitch a fit about how this is my responsibility. It IS my responsibility, I did say I would do it, and I will do it, despite being quite ill. In the past, when I worked for this company, they would not allow me to call in sick for a "cold" without a doctor's note. I worked through many illnesses with them and only called in sick when I developed West Nile Fever and while I was sick for over a month, I only called for my last 12 reports one day when I could no longer see the computer screen because my head hurt.

The problem is that yes, many MTs lack work ethic. They don't take their responsibility seriously. This is not a work as you please career, not even for an IC. I can see the MTSO's point of view, I truly can. Like finding experienced, reliable and capable MTs, for the MTs who are these things, finding a company will treat you like a human being is equally difficult. I sit here, feeling lousy and like I am an utter slave labor with no consideration whatsoever. I know that my work needs to be done, but when I am this sick it is better that someone else do it for the sake of the work, for accuracy and for speed of getting it out. I know that I am needed, but to be the MT these companies need me to be, I also need to look after my own health.

I will also mention that when I have asked for vacation, I have been approved for the time, but the MTSO queues up my work and calls me then I am not on the system getting it done. I have told them I had been approved for time off, but the MTSO didn't schedule anyone to cover for me and I am told to get on work, vacation or no, if I want to keep my job.

Thus, I work 24/7/365 and have for years. I work sick, I work when I am in pain (I have an AI disorder), I work exhausted from staying up all night covering for others who are allowed to call in sick and have vacations when I can't have either. I work having no health insurance and not being able to afford the $125 a month to buy some with a high copay so I can see a doctor. I work without breaks for breakfast, lunch or dinner and I sometimes come close to having an accident because if I leave my desk to go to the little girls' room I get nasty calls about where I am at and what I am doing.

Many MTs are mistreated, and I am one of them.
I missed it.
What happened? I wanted Janelle to win so bad.
