I got mine from networking and working

themselves asked me if I'd be interested. That was 10 years ago though and still going strong, but now I think the competition keeps one from landing their own accounts. However, it can be done. I've heard others say they've mailed flyers or gone cold-calling to offices with a business card. I guess if you have local medical facilities, it's worth a try. Even mailing a letter with a business card could land you an account. You never know who is unhappy with their current transcription provider.
One account I had (he's since retired) asked me because his Transcriptionist was retiring. So quirky stuff can happen.

Mine is working just fine.
I have mine working with my Ooma
& I can't WAIT to dump Verizon.
Actually, I leave mine plugged in while working
Most of the time my laptop is plugged in. Sometimes I unplug it to play games in bed or if we are having a storm.
I wondered about purchasing a battery back up in addition, even if you can do that with a laptop that already has a battery built in, which I don't know. :) This is my first laptop and I have only had it for about two months.
I got mine on Amazon.com and had it working in about 10 minutes. nm

Amanda, did my 2 comments help you? Mine is working,,,nm

Ask about working the holidays. Recruiter led me to believe it would be their choice and not mine,

Mine are still on the left side in blue and still working. nm

Mine got worse after staying home and working...
I think having to get up and leave the house and face people daily actually helped me. It wasn't until I started staying home that my anxiety got worse and I went back to a psychiatrist and then got back on medication. I make a point to not get stuck in a rut and venture out very often. If it is severe though where someone could not work at all, then I think this would give them another opportunity to earn a living where they wouldn't have had one at all.
Mine is working fine and turning purple...
.
Mine isn't working either. Wonder if they've taken that ability away or archived stuff so we

I've worn mine working for a year and haven't had a problem. .sm
I even still handle floppy disks all the time. The magnets aren't that strong.
RE: Networking
Don't know where you are, but networked ours through DSL provider, Bellsouth. We have 3 and it is wireless networking on mine. They are at one end of the house and I am at the other pretty much.
Networking with people throughout the day
was a benefit to working outside of my home. I am always surprised at the amount of information we absorb just by talking with others in the cafeteria line, waiting for elevators, sitting beside someone and chatting with them about daily events, common interests, places to shop, etc. When 9/11 took place, at that very moment, I was so eager to talk with another human being about it, I recall,
Re: Networking/Advice
I have lots of the same questions as the poster below about getting set up with some kind of web-based file transfers, etc. I am going to do my own research, but if anyone has a suggestion of which direction to look that would be great.
I see the point about connections, and since I live in an area where I have not worked in-house I am kinda stumped. I did once land a small solo practice account by writing a letter. It was very close to my home and I pointed out the convenience to both of us and he called. When I moved he said he would write a glowing recommendation letter to anyone.
So I'm thinking if I can get that first account, the "connection" situation can be helped along.
What about the doctor you/your kids/your mother, etc., go to? How about the chiropractor? Even if a doctor is part of a conglomerate, they might refer someone to you. I am thinking of asking my doctor (solo with 2 NPs) next time I go what her transcription situation is.
Still, what I am stumped about is how to set up getting the work. I don't want to pick up tapes and I don't want to spend thousands of dollars on my 10-report-a-week job, either!
Are you using a wireless router for networking or
do you actually have wireless internet? We got a Wii last Christmas and I use a wireless router and we haven't had any problems at all.
If you are using a router you may need to adjust the channel settings on it. I think Nintendo recommends channel 11. You can go to Nintendo.com and see if you can find a solution or Google it and if no help there call Nintendo. Their customer service isn't in India.
yeah..networking on who she can bully the most.
making herself look better only to herself. there is *bluntness* and then there is *bully*. and being just plain mean just because they *don't have time* to be nice.
G and N only apply to wireless networking. nm
Absolutely agree! Word of mouth and networking are key!! nm

stick around for the networking...ignore the doom and gloom...sm
i've checked these boards over the years; when the doom gets thick, i take a break; when i get "isolationitis" i come and see if there's someone i can help; i think you can CHOOSE your RESPONSE to these boards and their content. there are plenty of us on in this career who are choosing to make the best of a difficult situation; i CHOOSE not to be negatively impacted and keep my motivation up by helping others in the network. don't take this stuff personal...stick around...building community is always better than going it alone.... jmho
Funny! Mine is almost as large, and I don't mind cleaning mine!
It's no problem at all. Besides, I'll take lots of oodles of square footage any day of the week over living in a sardine can!
You get more working the evening or night shifts and working w/o benefits. And producing like a mad
,
Ditto....granted I am not working much these days, but am currently trying out a new way of working
when I do work which seems to be helping. I am timing myself and keeping a log of how long it takes to to type however many minutes. I am averaging anywhere from 13-18 minutes of dictation an hour now doing this. Granted the time fluctuates between who I am typing, and if I have to look up names, addresses, etc., just depends on the division I am doing at the time. But work that used to take me 3 hours to do is now taking me under 2 hours, I am also trying to put in more macros as I go along, which slows me down initially but pays off in the long run of course. I was working "all the time" before but took forever to get done since I was not applying myself. This new "attitude" has helped me a lot. My goal, in the Fall, is to do 90 minutes a day consistently at 6 hours, and then maybe get up to 120 minutes a day at 8 hours, still while having at least half of the day free (do 60 minutes at night, and the other 60 by Noon). Thereby doing 1200-1400 lines a day. I have never really buckled down and done more than 8000 lines per pay period, so it will be a nice change. Maybe you can do something like that and have a specific knock off time as was suggested below.
Working holidays? Out shopping in stores where someone IS working
that holiday you refuse to work? Grocery stores, food joints & seems any store is open on holidays and you expect them to be fully staffed, so why shouldn't we?
Yes, I took off for the first time on Christmas day, in 18 years and it was great, but I worked Christmas eve and this whole past weekend.
Someone has to do it!
working IN A HOSPITAL is different than working at home.
Someone can steal you identity from the internet if they want to. Why would you go to the time and trouble to jeopardize a job that requires some level of skill to steal someone's identity or medical records? You could get a job as a retail clerk and get info easier than going through the testing required to become an MT.
Somehow working at home translates into not really working
My in-laws are the worst. Whenever they plan something last minute and my husband says that I had to work, they say, "but she works at home!". When I one time mentioned I had a "schedule" and basically punch a clock and work full time, I don't think they believed me. They will sometimes call mid-day during the week if they are in the area to see if I want to go for lunch, etc! The best is, my husband doesn't make all that much money, so where is it coming from, the money fairy? I am ready to strangle someone! So I know how you feel and I'm sorry it upset you. You are not alone.
Mine isn't like that. Mine is 2. All are programmed different.
xx
I daydream about NOT working while I'm working.
There are so many other things I need and want to get done. I've been working way too hard lately, and summer is just slipping by again. Well, I'm outty.
Mine are 10, 7, and 4.....sm
I get up early and get my work done by noon. If I have more that needs done I do it late at night after they go to bed. I have a very flexible schedule, so as long as the work is back in 24 hours it doesnt matter when I do it. Mine are all girls, so they play really nice together. My 10-year-old is pretty good at keeping the 4-year-old playing. When the two older ones are is school, my 4-year-old is pretty good at playing with her toys, computer or books until I am done. I stop occasionally to read to her or play with her, but I am usually done everyday at noon. For me personally, I would never use daycare. I would try to make it work with the little ones at home. I used to work in a very demanding hospital job doing insurance and billing. When I started work at home I knew I would never see another day care again! Good luck to you and hope you can find a way to get the little ones to stay at home with you!
not mine
I did not make that post
Yep, that's what mine is...
That "azul" thingy - think I'll take my computer, desk and chair to that island and sip a cold drink while I type....
should see mine!
Ours this time was 441!!!
mine is for $96 - but what for??? nm

You can have mine.
What a slap in the face! I will be returning mine with a nice little letter. They obviously think we are just a bunch of idiots and are just going to sit back and take their BS. I have had it.
Mine was $27 nm

Mine are up a bit too. NM

He's mine. Now get out of here.
Do you spend at least 2 hours doing your hair and make up in the hopes that he stops by your house? I didn't think so.
Mine does - up to 14 cpl for certain...
accounts. I'm sure there must be others. Our experience has been that there are still plenty of doctors/healthcare facilities who appreciate quality. Yes, many simply want to save money. Thankfully, some know money is not the most important factor.
Mine did for me
I worked for a company (not MQ) that used DQS and I only have dial-up available to me. I connect at 50.6 Kbps almost all of the time and never had a problem. Once the first dictation loaded, which took less than a minute, the rest would upload in the background while I was working so I never had to wait. Sound quality was always very good, but of course that can depend on your account.
I currently am working on the InScribe platform for a different company and it takes a little over a minute most of the time for my first dictation to load (so it is a little slower than DQS was for me) but after that there is no waiting, just like on DQS.
I have a really reliable ISP so very rarely get disconnects, etc.
HTH. :)
that's how I do mine, too...and they are
mine is
Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here
Also keep in mine...
While it is very true what the other poster said, you also need to take in to account how much you are getting paid per line. I get paid both ways, for two different jobs I work. If I were to make say $.09/gross line (based on 1" margins all around, Courier New 12 pt. font), then I would need to be paid approximately $.12/65 characters per line to be making near the same amount (this is just a rough estimate).
Me too. Mine is really bad in the a.m. - sm
The pain is not really in one area of my arm, but all over and achey, even going to my wrist sometimes. I absolutely cannot lift my arm over my head without excruciating pain. Heating pad helps me too. Mine actually started when I got this crazy idea to add weightlifting to my cardio regimen at the gym. Since I have bad knees from time to time, I am guessing this may be arthritis. I'm 38. Arthritis is very strong in my family.
Wow! Ask for mine too and keep it! :)
Was an original member when you paid by the MINUTE to use AOL in the early 90s. I think it lead to my divorce...
d~
Mine too
I'm an IC and was fortunate enough to receive Christmas bonuses from three of my accounts this year. I was more excited about being remembered than the money! It is nice when they communicate with you other than in a monotone voice on a tape.
that is what I still use. Mine looks sm
awful but works great. I found a couple on E-bay and bought them for 4 bucks a piece but they are rebuilt and the keys are tighter. Actually I wanted the cords off of them because you can't get the cord anymore and mine had a crack in it. These are the cords the snap in and are not on permanently. I love the clickety clack keyboard and don't want to ever change. I have bought so many adapters, you can't imagine! LOL
mine is this now too:)
Why are you making a big deal about this?
mine too
of course this is my cup of cocoa since I haven't ever touched coffee.
Almost all of mine say thank you, more so than the
American docs.
Anybody like their job? I like mine
nm
I wish mine had. We'd all have been better off.
Actually I've always wished I was adopted and had nothing genetic in common with those freaks.
Not Mine!!!
