Don't feel ill - it look me a very long time to find it and you can too.
Search, search and search some more. You will be surprised what you can find. It takes time, but those accounts are out there. How do you think MTSO and large MT companies get accounts? A little research and many phone calls.

its a waste of time yet you take the time to respond?

Utter waste of time, unless you have a lot of time--then have at it! nm

    Don't waste your time there
Very unprofessional. Outdated system. Lacks work. I resigned shortly after getting hired, and I gave them the 2 wks' notice, still worked during those two weeks, mailed an invoice, and still has not received my pay.
You are a big waste of our time.

    IMO waste of my time
VR is not taking over the MT position anytime soon. I hated doing editing because it was twice the work and half the pay. I always ended up typing everything over because it was so wrong. Especially w ESL. Docs have to train the computer to recognize their voice and they don't take and don't have the time to do so. I found a company with straight transcription and I am much happier.
    Waste of time

Then you shouldn't waste the time sm

going on the cruise if you are going to have to worry about work even if it takes you no time at all to get it done.  When you have an opportunity for rest and relaxation you need to take it.   It will be more trouble having to worry with the work on vacation.   I agree... see if someone locally does MT and get them to do it while you are gone.  Have them sign a contract or something so that you don't have to worry about your accounts.   Or I would be they would hold their dictation and let you do it when you got back.   NO WAY should you take the work with you.   If you have been with them for 5 years, you have already proven your worth.   Chances are if you tell them you are going to take a short vacation since you haven't in 5 years, they will respond and so go, we will hold it til you get back.

    Good luck, enjoy yourself!!

I used to waste sooooo much time
looking things up, then get sidetracked, etc. When I started using the stopwatch, I wouldn't reset it until the end of my shift. I just started it running everytime I stopped typing and then stopped it when I started typing again. At the end of the day I nearly FAINTED when I saw how much time I was losing.

I have a 3 to 5-minute limit now. I start that watch and in 3 minutes if I am no where near finding the information, I put a blank and go on. If I feel I've almost found what I'm looking for, I continue but at 5 minutes I call it quits and it gets a blank to QA.

Don't hardly ever send blanks to QA because I can send 2 blanks to the hospital without any trouble.

Still, it helps me keep on task and at the end of the day I can see where I have not been productive if my lines are really sucky. LOL LOL LOL
Why would any decent MT waste their time with MQ

Don't be fooled by their latest spins. If it didn't benefit them, they wouldn't be doing it.   The only ones with a good deal at MQ are the suits. They should be eating some of the slop they feed MTs.

Just seems like a big-time waste of money
to buy a keyboard just because a letter is worn off.
Don't waste your money or your time. sm
I was a CMT for 15 years. It never did a bit of good money wise. Like another poster said, there use to be bonuses for production with some companies (large bonuses) and they never had anything to do with CMT.

You will be spending more money than you want to as well as having to get CECs all the time. AHDI doesn't care about American MTs. This test (in my opinion) is just like the "almighty" BOS, just something else to get the MTs money that will never do the MT any good but keep funding AHDI.

AAMT/AHDI or whoever they are has been saying for years it will be mandatory to be a CMT some day. That is baloney. Any decent employer will go by your experience and what you can show them you can do and not by any stupid CMT certificate.

I wouldn't think a second thought about it if I were you. Its not worth the paper its printed on.
I wouldn't waste my time going to any sm
MT school. This profession has gone down the tubes and continues to go down very quickly. By the time you get out of school, you aren't going to be able to make any money anyway. You will be singing the blues like everybody else here.

Just trying to warn you not to do it. Find another profession and don't waste your money.
OMG! This is too weird! You can't comprehend what I'm saying, so I won't waste your time!

cherry picking is a waste of time

if you get an ESL that you cannot understand, type them anyway the best you can.  If you have to leave blanks, then leave them.  You will get used to the doctor eventually.  (Sometimes I think it will never happen with some!)  Also, if you send the same doctor in enough with blanks, they will usually send you samples or maybe the doctor might start actually speaking BETTER if enough MTs are having issues and send him in to QA often enough.  The cherry pickers are hurting themselves in the long run.  If the same MTs keep getting them and doing well because they are used to them, then they will not get sent to QA.

Take as many different worktypes as  you can and as many different doctors as you can, it will benefit you in the long run, make  you more flexible.

well, actually i had responded and given her the answer so it did waste my time. sm
if she was only doing "practice tapes", why try to be so perfect? Practice tapes to get an idea of the profession doesn't mean trying to find out exactly what each word is. i am not usually tacky on this board and don't like it when others are but i did consider that a waste of my precious time to help her when it sounded like she didn't need the definite answer just to get "an idea" of the profession and was most likely needing test answers. someone in the medical field should know those terms.
it's a natural law. don't waste your time posting
hate on MT boards or you will fall under nonsurvival natural law.

just sayin.... truth might not be pleasant but helps to prioritize what you do with your life and time. you don't like what your doing and can't make enough money, get a new skill. the higher up the education you choose to pursue, the less likely you break your back in a field or scrubbing commodes at a fast food restaurant. natural law for modern days.
CMT is a waste of money & time. Times are different in the MT

industry anymore and having a CMT doesn't make a hill of beans difference. Companies are going to pay what they want to pay. Having a CMT isn't going to get you anymore money.  That's a fallacy.  There was a time when having a CMT would have gotten you a little better pay but those days are LONG gone. Save your money because that's all AAMT wants.  AAMT are big corporation suckups, offshore suckups, and will suckup to anyone or any company that has BIG BUCKS!  AAMT care NOT about the American MT, which became crystal clear with the announcement of their upcoming name change.

Who wants to waste their time reading this stuff here? nm

Or a comedian. If dont want to waste time,

Sorry, I was saying 'No' to CS being a waste of time! Yes, to CS being legitimate!

I had previously put in the subject line "NO," but that was in response to the question about if CS was a waste of time. I didn't want anyone to get the idea that I was saying CS is not legitimate. It most certainly IS LEGITIMATE and worth every penny I paid!:) I just had to clarify that. :) Sorry, I don't usually frequent this forum.

writing out by hand --> big waste of time! sm
do it in your word processor -- just switch windows between documents. Or better yet, invest in software such as MPLite and then at the end of each day you can run a summary report by office or doctor for all the work you did that day. This software will also simplify your invoicing procedures.
Don't waste your time, with your experience, you don't need those initials (nm)

Outer Banks, NC...Don't waste time on VA Beach
I live in Virginia Beach and there's not much to do here and definitely wouldn't recommend taking a vacation here. Unless of course you like rubbing elbows with all the tourists crowded on the boardwalk. We love going down to the Outer Banks. It's much more laid back there and you can claim your own little stretch of beach cuz it's not so crowded. The locals are much nicer there and you can rent a beach house for pretty cheap if you look around.
Waste of time and hard-earned money
when you can only make may be 1 cpl more if you are a CMT.  They should not charge you, they should just let you take the test and send you the certificate.
clicking on your post to see an answer was a waste of time

5 minutes tops; if not tend to waste too much time - sm
google what you think it may be, or key terms in the phrase and usually you can figure it out that way pretty quickly.

I agree with the other posters that I found them to be a waste of time ...
I sent them a resume with over 20 years of acute care experience and they didn't even extend me the professional courtesy of acknowledging that they received it.

The archives yield posts by other MTs stating more disappointment with them after making contact than favorable results.
Nope. Huge waste of time and money.

Just wanted a quick reply, not a lecture. No time to waste. Thank you.

Get involved? With AAMT? You've got to be joking. What an incredible waste of time.
It wasn't ALL that and it was expensive no matter.  I'm sick of hearing the same old blather and seeing NO change that benefits AMERICAN MTs.  I'm in California so it was nothing for me to hop from the mainland, but EVERYTHING on the Hawaiian Islands is expensive.  Of course, the Modesto Mavens were there in all their AAMT glory. Can you say PUKE?  Sorry, but that's the way I feel about it.  I went to see if anything had changed, REALLY changed, and most of it was a big bunch of double talk.  Oh, and to think that I actually thought that I might interject in conversation!  Boy, was I wrong.  I'll never attend another AAMT convention again in my life. What a waste of time and money.
i'd call that brownie points for heaven LMAO...and a waste of time!
    ;)
Depends. Is it strictly transcribing? Is all patient info provided so you don't waste time? Any d

    It's been a long, long time since I've used a C-phone, sm
but I do think jobs can be paused.
I had a problem with this for a long, long time sm
I have always worked days, like from 6-3. Over the last few years, it didn't matter how much sleep I got, I became real groggy between 7 and 11. Really shoots the day. Talked to my doctor and he said my blood pressure pills were the culprit but he refused to change me to another brand or dosage since I have multiple aneurysms (2 in the brain). My BP has been stable for a long time and he wants to "keep it on the low side". I tried taking them before I went to bed instead of early in the morning, but then I had headaches all day. So, I am changing to a night shift for a few months so I can sleep when those pills kick in and so far it is working pretty good. I stay mostly awake during my shift and die when I hit the bed from 6 am to 10 am, then I lay down again later in the afternoon for 2-3 hours. I still get 6-7 hours of sleep, it's just split up during the day, plus I am mostly awake now when I sit down to type. I don't have to deal with the heat in my office, either. It tends to warm up real fast in here with the south sun on the house and 2 pc's running all day, even with the air conditioner on.
Way back when, a long, long time
ago and in a galaxy far, far away, I had my own accounts also and some years cleared $75,000.  Yes it can be done, but you need to have your own accounts.  Also lots of delivery, and other duties involved.  I work for a large national now and make much less, but I got tired of accountants, having to deal with hardware problems, deadlines, driving deliveries, printing, printers, etc.  So I decided to simplify my taxes and stay home and just type.  Don't have to worry about computers either, because the company will just send me a new one.
I've been doing this a long, long time...

I used to make $70,000 and up a year and did so for most of the late 80s and 90s (one girl used to make six figures a year working 7 days a week!)  Because we were making more money than the supervisors and Medical Records Directors in hospitals, they began to switch to transcription services which were sprouting up all over the place.  Plus AAMT came into existence and even though in the beginning it claimed it was to fight for transcriptionists (although assured us it was NOT a union), they eventually morphed into an organization that was more management friendly.  They developed the "guidelines" and the 65-char line.  That was the beginning of the end for those high-end wages.  Then all those mickey mouse transcription schools popped up, and now outsourcing overseas.  YES, we're complaining.

Been in this biz a long, long time, 30+ years and....sm
I love/loved MTing. However, things have changed so much during these years. The job definitely gets easier; don't have to look up much, can decipher ESLs much easier, in other words, you get pretty comfortable with things and you have confidence in yourself. The more experience you have the easier the job, but....

I actually made more money 10 years ago!! We didn't have speech recognition and you actually got paid for headers/footers, demographics, carbon copies, etc., you got paid for what you did fairly; today, I am not so sure.

You will feel burned out at times, but that passes and you find you like your job again.

    Good luck to you!!
How long does it take to find a job
I guess that depends on what country you live in. If your name is Bob or Joseph there is a job waiting for you in India.
trying to find a long-lost doc sm

I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas for me.  I'm trying to locate a counselor who apparently just disappeared.  I used the ecare.com and whitepages, but didn't find anything.  He had 2 offices in my city.  Fortunately, I don't need to see him, but I'd like to locate him for another reason.

While I'm at it, maybe someone knows if deceased physicians are located in a certain place.  Hopefully this isn't the case re this other GP, but he was my doc many years ago in a different state.  This is more a curiousity thing.

I found my neighbor listed on ecare (she's a PA-C), so I know it's not just for MDs.  I just wanted to make sure.

    Thanks for any ideas!

Sorry I took so long but couldn't find my glasses :)

I can't afford new glasses, let alone Lasix.  Also Lasix only corrects one or the other (near or far).  I suppose if I could afford it, I'd go for near (being able to see clearly in the distance).  However, I have looked into not only the cost, but the fact that they actuall cut your cornea part way off, do the surgery underneath and then reconnect your cornea.  I'm like EEUUUWWW, I don't think so!

I'm my husband's ears and sometimes he's my eyes.  I'll say, "HONEY, JIM IS ON THE PHONE!"  and he'll say "Honey, watch out for that curb."

We have a sense of humor about these things, fortunately.  He does read lips very well and I have gotten myself into trouble on occasion when I was mad at him. :)

Ignore QA long enough and you may find yourself out on your rear.
    :+
how long does it take to find an MT job with 15+ years of experience?

The CMT exam is overrated. Don't waste your time & money. Use that money on
paid anymore just because you have it.  There are a few CMT cheerleaders that post to people like you but they are pretty well sucked up into that association.
A long, long time ago, I was going thru
a really bad time emotionally and physically. I was suffering, and my transcribing suffered. I assure you - if you are to the point of not paying your rent, literally, and needing food stamps, there is something else going on in your life than current transcription rates. We are all in this industry and many are thriving, most getting along comfortably. If you are literally to the point of food stamps, you honestly would be a fool to continue. I blamed it on my job, on my line rate, on everything but the honest truth that I was ill and was NOT working as I should or could. It is a really sad thing that you keep spreading this propaganda that MTs in our culture are doomed and now destined for food stamps. Food stamps are not something to toss around lightly, as you would know if you ever had to use them. Please let's not be quite so dramatic. Again, if you are really in those dire straits, you really need to face that MTing is not the fit for you, personally, and do something about it rather than blame our industry. You dwell on the past, but we can't do that. While you may have made other wages 20 years ago, may I remind you that we were pounding away on IBM Selectrics using layers of paper and bottles of white out, going crazy trying to rewind tapes over and over to get that dang word, with no idea what an Expander was. Technology is fantastic. Things have changed, but things are still great in this industry, and in this world. Those who change and can adapt will be fine, but you need to recognize that most of us are not ready for food stamps.
If you don't take the time to find to do things

that give you joy you'll become a bitter old woman and you'll always have regrets that you gave so much of yourself to your job.

My mother died of cancer, she fought it for 17 years, but she was just 50 when she got it and the chemo damaged her heart so that she had no quality of life and she wanted to go to the beach one more time.

My father worked hours and hours, OT and weekends, and neglected his family, not out of financial need - not sure why exactly.  He developed Alzheimer's in his early 60s, was not able to enjoy retirement and it didn't matter that he had $100,000 in the bank because he didn't know who he was, didn't know who I was, was in diapers, couldn't feed himself, etc.

Make the time to do what you enjoy, if only for 15 minutes a day.  If $$ is an issue, use coupoons, buy off brands, shop yard sales, etc.

You can work until you last breath and they'll still be calling you to help with the backlog.   The company doesn't care about you, doesn't care if your children are sick, if your parents are dying, if you are puking your guts out, so why should you kill yourself for the company.

Do you find it time consuming
preparing everything?  I need to get back on it and the only showstopper is time.  The last time I was on it (obviously didn't stick to it) I lost 25 pounds but found preparing the meals and snacks was time consuming.  Please Email me.  Thanks.
I find that if I slow down and actually take time
to use my ShortHand Expander properly, my lines go way up. If I just start typing faster and using only the small 1 or 2 word abbreviations I use all the time, I get no where fast. You see, I have thousands and thousands of abbreviations, but the real time saver is the phrases and normals I have at my disposable. I just have to slow down and watch the Shorthand window. It may seem like you are wasting time scanning the list of abbreviations, but it's the only way to really churn out the lines. You also tend to make fewer mistakes requiring backspacing when you slow down and pay attention to the abbreviations window.
I would try to find something part time (sm)
in acute care, even if it is 7 cpl. Keep your other job, but do the acute care to get the experience. You will probably be slow and have to look up a lot, but the more you do it, the better you will be at it and then you will be able to move to a different company with better pay.

It will kill 2 birds with 1 stone. You get more money either way.
time to find a new cardiologist!
If that doctor admittedly is more concerned with saving a few dollars than he is with the quality of his patient's medical records, then who knows where else he might be cutting corners - and how much he's overcharging his patients!

Your mom definitely needs to thank him for his honesty regarding what is most important to him and then inform him she won't be putting her life in his hands any longer!
By dates. Find a time when you SM
are relaxed. Then go back, starting from course completion or first job. Just go date by date until current. Funny you mentioned this, since I was just reviewing mine. It's not easy when you're tired, so if you are a Nightowl, try it in the morning or any quiet time. I don't believe you need to put exact dates, just the year and any person who was your supervisor or anyone you want as referral. There are also sites online that might help, but not with your dates. :)

    Example: (Basic)
    MT course completion: 1990.
    Smith Hospital 1991.
    MQ 1991-Fall 1991.
    Jones Hospital 1992.
    MQ 1992-1993.

List all types of work done. All of them.
