I've heard people have to try a new food 10 times before they know for sure they won't like it
I heard that somewhere.

I had a SIL who actually SAT on her young children and force-fed them new foods if they refused them at the table. We were appalled, but weirdly, the kids often got up from the floor and happily ate the food they were just force-fed!
Just realize that there are healthy able bodied people...
who make minimum wage in Florida and can barely afford to put food on the table never mind stock up on a little extra.  Also realize that with that kind of  destruction I don't think anyone can be prepared.  I rode out two storms last year and each time I went outside and saw the damage afterwards I was overwhelmed and in shock for days....months after the storm driving along I-75 to get to family in Naples I encountered the Port Charlotte area and the destruction that those storms brought to that area was terrible...those people to this day are still living in FEMA trailers and have little else but the shirts on their backs.  Before people become judgemental of what the government shouldn't do realize that one day that just might be you or someone in your family.  I work with a girl who lost everything to Andrew and to this day when a storm comes into play she is very apprehensive and anxious....Try to be a little more caring than judgemental.  It makes the world a much better place to live in.
As long as healthy, able-bodied people
are willing to maintain a poverty mentality and continue to be content to work a minimum-wage job without making any effort to better themselves, they will remain trapped in the misery they've created for themselves. There is no reason why able-bodied people in this country should not be able to provide adequately for their families. There is nothing noble or pure about abel-bodied people choosing poverty and misery just because it's too much trouble to improve one's life and it's so much easier just to get some mindless minimum-wage job or just sit and collect welfare. Their selfishness deprives the truly needy of the help and resources the rest of us pay for that should be devoted to helping those genuinely in need. If able-bodied people decide to make stupid choices--which includes not preparing for emergencies as well as the well-known stupid choices of breeding more children than they can support, choosing to bear children out of wedlock, choosing addiction, choosing to drop out of schoos, etc., etc--they should not automatically expect to be bailed out of the consequences of their poor choices. It has nothing to do with compassion or lack thereof. It's simple common sense.
Garlic keeps you healthy. You smell so bad sick people avoid you.

When you can no longer handle what life gives you

you get on your knees and pray. Just surrender every care to God and ask Him to help because you can't do any more.  Just saw something on Oprah when she had Faith Hill as a guest and she said she was depressed and fat and wanted a role in a movie and she just fell on the ground and remembered the words to a hymm, I surrender all.  Faith Hill sang it and it brought tears to my eyes.  (Oprah got the role she wanted in Deep Purple.)  Anyway, I was in the same position and literally didn't want to go on and suddenly after my prayer things started happening for the good which I really believed was an answer to my desperate prayer.

PS:  Hope this post doesn't get dinged or offend anyone.

Maybe this will help.

if you live among trashy people, low income people, people w/o goals or direction,
content to just get by, you by default become a part of a group. "people" have decided to group trailer people as trash. that is because there are enough people in that group to earn the title and even if you aren't trash, you are categorized by others. did i think i was trash in lower class neighborhood surrounded by people who drank and fought all weekend? no but i knew i wasn't staying and did not try to pretend that all the fools in the neighborhood were just nice folks who ended up where they were because high horse snobs deemed their neighborhood low class. people for the most part live exactly where they belong because they don't want to educate themselves, they don't mind "trash" around them and they don't want to be bothered trying just a bit hard to extract themselves from that world. they justify everything to themselves i guess saying everyone who doesn't like their lifestyle is a snob and the comedians (Jeff Foxworthy/Chris Rock, etc) who make fun of them are just ill-informed.

As for me, I fought hard to get out and don't even want to look back. It amazes me people stay for generations.
why yes the quality of air where i live is quite different than where the city people live.
Lots of pollution.  That's why everyone is moving away from the city and areas zoned for multiple housing units and low income housing and trailer parks.  Population is dense and near manufacturing.  So yes, the air is different but millions of people pay a little extra for the quality, the space and privacy afforded to those who move out of polluted crowded areas such as you defend.  There is always a reason why some areas and housing is cheaper than others.  Maybe it is the air and maybe it's something you can't quite put your finger on but you know you would prefer not to live in certain areas.  You know what I mean or are you living in one of those areas?  They tell after awhile you block out the sounds, the smells and get used to the pollution.  I don't know.  I didn't stay long enough to test the theory.  My mental and physical health is way too important to me.
At least I live my OWN life and not my husband's

I have heard over and over and in real life,
not reel life. Commonly used except white people and others who say get blasted for using it.
Never in my life have I ran something over with my car, heard a thud, wondered what it was and

not the parents or cartakers, don't you think?

Maybe you should both get your nose out of the bible and live the life He gave you...

Dishes once a week? My goal is to live life better than the day before.
Try to enrich my life, even if it's just a little extra prayer or a little thoughtful thing for someone who doesn't expect it. Everyday.
That sounds so nice. I'd love to live the simple life again. nm

WOOOW. You are the biggest idiot i have ever heard...GET A LIFE!

If the state boards are no longer active, why haven't they been removed so people don't waste
nm
I live in Georgia and I have never heard of this - I just work! nm
nm
LOL. Some people take life so hard.

Wonder what happens when something really bad happens to them.

I can believe it - I've never had a resume in my life, and I'm 59.
nm
I've lived in CA my whole life,
and I was offered several jobs. Yes, the cost of living is sky-high here, and I couldn't make it on what I'm being paid by the national I work for if I didn't still have one local account who pays me an obscene amount of money and is happy to do so because I do good work. (It ain't bragging if you can do it. Didn't Babe Ruth say that?) When my supervisor who lives in South Carolina found out what I'm paying for rent, she said shucks, girl, you gotta come out here, and I said no way, they wouldn't let me past the state line 'cause I can't talk like they do!

But seriously... this is home, and I really can't envision living anywhere else. My supervisor has been hesitant to authorize overtime for me because of the hoops the employer has to jump through, but in practical fact it has been never been actually necessary for me to work OT.
I've lost track of how many people who've asked about it to NOT
.
Yup, it's fact of life when people are paid on production..SM
I hate cherrypickers too, but part of me wonders from a devil's advocate point of view, what if everyone just refused to do the crappy dictators? Maybe they'd be forced to clean up their act. Because when you get right down to it, CRAPPY DICTATORS are the main problem causing cherrypicking, NOT the MT.
Just so everyone know, I can ill afford 50.00 but that is what life is about, helping people (inside
I have no family, just 2 pets. I am probably going to be out of a job soon myself, but if I cannot help someone else then my days are numbered. $50.00 will not kill me. It is pointless to say she should have been prepared, evidently she was, she HAD insurance. If I can make anyones load a little lighter I can live on that at least 6 months. To know you are not alone in this world might keep someones hope to keep on keeping on just one more day, then my moral values have been enlightened. The key word is "morals."

I think sometimes we are getting as cruel and thougtless as the companies who want profits at any cost. They are teaching us that. We seem to be learning well by some of the posts to this person's dilemna. I for one am not going blind yet, although my mother did right before her death and it broke my heart as she loved to read.

"Compassion," what happened to that? So far at 63 I am still healthy. I have no insurance, I cannot afford $500 a month, but I can still offer help to a fellow human being.

Merry Christmas and to all a good night.
I've never been fired by anyone in my entire life.
I hate MQ and I'm happy to tell everyone why.  However, every MT is different and every MTSO is different.  What works for me may not work for someone else.  I found my fit elsewhere.
And we've discussed this before on this board. Life is not that
simple for me. If I leave the state, I leave my elderly parents that I care for and I leave my minor children because they legally cannot cross state lines without their father's permission. He's not going to OK that. Besides, I'm happy doing MT. Who ever said I was not happy doing MT? It works great with all the family I have to care for. I just wish I hadn't wasted time and money going to college, especially when the job market in my state got oversaturated with other college grads.
I don't know where you people live
but in my neck of the woods if you are only making $20,000 a year, you are well below proverty level, with all the people who have quit from my old office, that is a drop in the bucket from what they gained from those salaries alone!!!
One thing I've learned in life is it's impossible to
stand up for themselves. Maybe only 1 in 100 will even try. Sad to say, but we've brought a lot of this onto ourselves.
Yep, sour grapes is right. Typical attitude of people who are angry with life.

I think that other people who live in the same neighborhood
also bought their homes and paid good money for them. They have the right to look out their window that they OWN and not be forced to look across the street at Bozo's Big Top.
Some people live like this for years.....

The last time I got out of the hospital I couldn't work for almost two months, and that really set me back.  I'm single so have only one income, and a house payment with a second mortgage.  You can do a lot of things with beans, rice, potatoes.  There are loads of dollar stores and outlet stores almost everywhere...... Big Lots, Grocery Outlet, Wonder Outlet, day-old section in the grocery store... even meat from the day before if you get there early enough.  Sometimes right before bakeries close you can get bags or boxes or donuts and bread for almost nothing.  As for the ice cream, can't help you on that one.  Things are tough everywhere it seems.

And why do we think that we deserve to live better than other people?

This country is plagued with consumerism and lots of people don't seem to know when enough is enough. We have garages for our cars and other stuff when people in other parts of the world don't even have anything close to our garages to live in. No where have I read that only Americans are entitled to all these luxuries that we seem to think we can't live without. (Having food, clothing, shelter and clean drinking water is considered a luxury in many parts of the world, so please don't use that as a bully pulpit.)

I, too, am tired of this argument!

I have heard many people say that, which is the
main reason I haven't purchased it.
You can't judge people by what coast they live on....
I am originally from the East Coast and I am NOT a "nasty woman". The writer was cold hearted yes....but it doesn't give you the right to blame the East Coast. You could live anywhere...it depends how you were raised in the long run. I was taught to always treat others as I would expect to be treated...imagine that from an East Coast momma! Have a good day.
are there any websites that have live chat for MTs? that actually have people in them?
???
IT people aren't paid well where I live, and I'm not
willing to move to where the money is. The job market is saturated here with qualified IT people, so we fight tooth and nail for a $12/hr job requiring a college degree. I wouldn't say I'm unusually productive at MT. I use ShortHand as an Expander and stick to smaller MTSOs with decent accounts.
I am taking it that you live in my area..and people just don't get it here..
I know this is going to probably upset a lot of people on here, but at this point I have to take up for doxie. I believe she must live in the same area as me, and it is very, very rural..a place where you can barely make enough to survive.

Doxie, I have been an IC for many, many years and love working this way. If you would like to talk about it, please feel free to get in touch with me. I understand what it is like to have to live here and make a decent wage...and I can even tell you how to go about being an IC..which is what your original question was. :)
I have heard that people don't realize how...
socially demanding those kinds of birds can be.  They NEED attention, they CRAVE attention, and they get mad if they are ignored.  They can be very demanding.  I would research that aspect before diving  in.  Too many people have to get rid of parrots because they can't handle them.
Have heard hosp.pay people to sit with pts.
x
I agree because I have heard this from many people - sm
Husband as the doctor and wife as the office manager is often a recipe for disaster.  I have seen it work a time or two, but more often than not they have this arrangement to save a few bucks and the wife has NO idea about office management, but guess what?  Hubby/doc is too busy seeing patients and she runs the show, with often disastrous results.  I say run while you can...PLENTY of places looking for qualified medical help with fewer hassles too most likely.
I've 2 children and live in TN. LOL
I can see that it bothers you very much for anyone to be anything less than employee, but frankly it is a CHOICE for us!! We do it for a reason!!!

You sound very much like a recuiter! LOL

Thank you for your advice but I've been there and done that and I will not go back. Thanks though! Just don't worry - we all have options in case we change our minds!!!

I've heard that before sm
then the account suddenly and mysteriously dries up and there you sit on OT waiting and waiting and waiting.
Now I've heard it all.

I just saw on CNN (which is NOT my news station of choice, now I remember why), that people in other countries feel bad for the people on the Gulf, but they figure it is "our fault"  because it is because of global warming and that global warming is the fault of the United States.  Please.  I was wondering when President Bush would start getting the blame for the hurricane.  I guess it won't be long now.

I've heard of that .........
and have a friend that seems to have it. I just give him a hard time about it *weg*, since I have menopause. 'Sides, its IMPORTANT for me to give him a hard time at all given opportunities LOL
I've never heard of this. Why? nm
//
Oh, please. Now I've heard it all! nm
nm
Well, I've heard it all...
Well, I'm struggling through a dictation and finally figured out the problem.. The doctor is driving while dictating (quality is wobbly and he is by nature a VERY fast dictator) and his wife/girlfriend/friend/significant other is on her cell phone talking just as loud and fast as he is... It's terrible.. yak-yak-yak-yak-yak. She hasn't slowed down one bit to even take a breath.. 4 minute dictation.. has so far taken 30 minutes!   OUCH!!!!!  Why do I put myself through this??
I've heard of it
...about eight months ago and it was pretty user friendly, I'd say, based on the tour of it they gave me. Do you mind if I ask you the per-line rate they're going to charge you?  When I talked to one of their reps last year, the per-line rate they quoted me was pretty darn high, which is the reason I didn't go with it, but if they've lowered their per line rate a bit, I would consider using it. Thanks, and please let me know anything else you find out about IntraScript.  I'll keep an eye on your post and replies.
I've actually never heard that myself, but
I wouldn't think you would be any less fertile than you were prior to this pregnancy.  Be sure if you do miscarry to keep in touch with your doctor and when the bleeding has stopped that you go in for an ultrasound to be sure it is complete.  I did not pass everything during my first miscarriage and ended up with an infection and was on antibiotics for a couple of weeks.  An infection could obviously cause problems with fertility if left untreated.  After both of my miscarriages, I was told to wait three months before trying again, but I ended up having a D&C in the office for the unexpelled contents the first time and the second time I opted for a D&C in the hospital under sedation because I found out the pregnancy was not viable and my first miscarriage was very painful - a lot worse than menstrual cramps.  The three month wait could have been because I had the D&Cs.  I am so sorry to hear someone else is going through it. ((((Hugs))))
Okay, now I've heard it all
I could be mistaken, but I think I am transcribing a doctor who is breast feeding while she dictates.  I can hear the baby (sounds like a newborn), and her soothing little comments, and then a definite almost like an "ouch" sound, but she keeps trying to talk through the pain.
I've heard both..sm
I leave it on the majority of the time, but on the weekends or when I know I won't be working I will turn it off to let it rest (so to speak). I don't know why but I just can't leave it on forever, which is why once or twice a week I turn it off.

Now I've heard it all!
Nice try, but your excuse just doesn't fly. Everyone's "overbooked," as you say and the vast, vast majority of people's salaries keep going down, down, and DOWN!  We'll see how much you appreciate doctor's padding their wallets when, God forbid, you don't have health insurance and your doctor won't treat you or your child unless you're able to pay for it all out of pocket.
I've heard like maybe being put on (nm)
