I do LOTS of ops, really almost exclusively, and the ones I have ... (drum roll) ... lol ... SM

and use primarily are Stedmans Equipment Words, The Surgical Word Book, and HPI's General Surgery/GI Words and Phrases. I also have the Stedman specialty books, but the only one I really tend to use of those is the orthopedic one, for some reason. I also use Google a lot and, again, primarily for orthopedics. That seems to be the specialty that changes a lot....well, that and cardiology but I don't do much cardiology right now. HTH

I use laptops exclusively...sm
I have used a laptop exclusively for years and years and have never had a problem with the screen. I currently have an HP with a 17" screen and keep it constantly during the week. It is about a year old and is just fine. My old one that is for personal use is still going strong after 3-1/2 years.
I wouldn't say it is for Dictaphone exclusively (sm)
I've used it in the past to call in for dictation and to transcribe on a few different digital but not internet systems (RTAZ and a couple others); it doesn't work with Lanier systems. I used to re-record from those, as well, onto microcassettes. Boy, that was a long time ago.
I still have mine and keep it on my desk for a work phone. It can hold 16 different phone numbers, or when used for dictation/transcription, those slots can be used for different function keys, although those functions are pretty much exclusive to Dictaphone but not all. It was a good investment at the time and still is, imo. The only problem is that it requires a 2-prong headset.
And, BTW, most newbies do not ask exclusively their question on the
world help board.
They ask their question on the board, while doing at the same time research themselves with their references.
They do not sit there waiting for the answer, twiddeling their thumbs.
Or they continue with the transcribing to save time becausee of production, what's wrong with that?
That's a good idea, but when I type exclusively
and don't move from my chair or do anything on the net still down 50-100 lines an hour from old platform. More likely because we don't get paid for header info anymore (even though they said we would). I think it takes longer to do the searches than just type in the info..........
I've been using a laptop exclusively for 6 years.
I use an external keyboard 99.9% of the time, use the laptop keyboard if I'm in the car. I'm used to the monitor, but if you're used to a larger one you can also hook up an external monitor. Not sure how many USB ports computers have now, but I have 3 on my laptop and I have a USB hub I can connect if I need more. I haven't used a desktop in so long, but I can't think of an advantage of one over the other.
I have a power box that all my equipment hooks into that I sit my laptop on top of. You will need to elevate it in some way or you'll get a crick in your neck.

(Eye roll)
Oh good grief! What's the big deal? Act like the professional you are and just transcribe the dang thing; then go on to the next dictation! Don't make a mountain out of a molehill. I transcribe for Hollywood celebrities all the time; if I had to stop and tell my supervisor that "I know this person," I'd never get anything done or make any money!

I am being nice. My advice: Do research - not just this time but all the times - and it will pay off tenfold. Now if that ain't nice, I don't know what is, unless you're implying the info should be laid out on a silver platter garnished with parsley, strawberries, powdered sugar, etc. Now THAT's not nice.

And did anyone ask you to plan the meals in their homes? No, they didn't!!
I try to tell myself to let it roll off
She just likes to be in the spotlight and wants to make sure no one else gets in, oh well. I shouldn't take it so hard. It is kind of petty really. It just makes me so angry that I want to place my foot where it doesn't shine. Friday as I was leaving to go home super MT and another Obnoxious MT were talking. All I heard was "she this.. and she that and as I got closer obnoxious MT said "bye" and not a friendly bye, have a nice weekend it was more like "get the (bad word) out of here" type bye. Gee, wonder why she flunked out of nursing school. I got paranoid thinking they were plotting something to make me look foolish or insignificant in front of the supe, like they did earlier but then again the supe knows how long I have been there, she knows the work I do so why worry....but I do.
Agreed. Roll with the changes in the
be phased out. Those who refused to switch out of WP5.1 and learn Word or some other windows-based program now have a much more limited set of work options. The same thing will happen with ASR. You can learn to work with it and learn to be part of it or eventually be obsolete and out of a job.
I like the Roll-Up Keyboard
I bet it's throwable too!!
So you'd just "leave it alone?" BIG EYE ROLL!
No wonder docs are farming it out overseas!!
sway and roll
If a boat goes by with a pretty big wake -- which they are not supposed to do, you will feel it go up and down. No one has gotten seasick while visiting. When the wind comes up it does remind you of being at the ocean. We have a fire boat here on the island and when there has been an emergency they have jetted by in the middle of the night and that does wake me up. But since we are tied off on three sides now to concrete pilings, we don't move like a boat at all, if anything it kinds of puts you to sleep. The worse time for a rock and rolling though is when you are sitting on the toilet, that is when you notice it the most. But after 11 years, I barely notice it at all. Thanks again to all of you, it may be Saturday but I don't have a lawn to mow at least. I tease my newphews about coming down to ride the riding lawnmower to mow my lawn, instead I have a paddle boat that we paddle around the moorage in.
just had another funny on - i'm on a roll! sm
typing neurobehavioral tests for my neurologist doc. Part of it is a question regarding knowing the name of the current president. The patient's answer just slayed me.....
Question: Do you know the name of the current President?
Answer: "Bambo"
Now that's one for the books!!
One quarter short of a roll...nm

LMAO! You're on a roll!
I was thinking the same thing!
How great thou art, my Mensa MT!
LOL
i remember having to roll pennies
to buy gas for the car, and it wasn't 30 dollars. Gas was about 1.50 at that time, but doesn't matter how much it is if you don't have the money! Another time, I had a 25 cent coupon good towards some cleanser...the store clerk forgot to take it off my grocery order, stating that "it's only a quarter!" I only replied, "I hope you never have to find out just how much a quarter is." Unfortunately, I found out a few years later that, yes, she found how much a quarter meant.

Calm down now. I'm just saying the roll works out much more economically for my needs...
I double checked and it's $52 including shipping for 5016 labels (8-1/2 x 1). That's equal to 456 sheets (8-1/2 x 11) or $0.1140 per sheet. Two of your boxes (250 x 2 = 500 sheets) x $28.70 per box is $57.40. That's $0.1148 per sheet plus your time cutting each of those little notes apart. I just print off the sheet and the office separates each note without the chance of losing a little 1" paragraph somewhere before it got to the med rec dept. I have absolutely no problem with curl, as the roll core is fairly large and I use a paper towel dispenser for quick dispensing. Six of one, half dozen of another. The gal from Med Arts Press is the one I was really speaking about. Their prices are nasty. Only if you want custom colors and then I'd go to Compulabel before MAP. And BTW I wasn't trying to step on toes, just trying to help save somebody a buck. Your welcome.
I'm curious. Does it kind of sway/roll with the
Or does the ballast/weight of it keep it very steady? I've never been on a barge or anything quite like that, so I'm just trying to imagine. Seems it would be so comforting (rock-a-bye, baby...) if it does move a bit. Doesn't make any of your guests a little seasick, does it?
Love Shack and That Old Time a Rock n' Roll!!

I knew I should not have bought that roll of 37-cent stamps!
This is all my fault.
You have some really cool stuff at your site. I'm sure gonna come back here. Plane can Roll Girl:

Lots of us did.
Been here 8 and got $130. One lady got 2 cents and another 1 cent. It's CRAZY!
I have lots of them...
Hello! Email me if you still need sites for OP notes - I have quite a few good ones I can send you...

LOTS
I'm on my 4th since July.
Tried Transolutions, what a joke. Told I would be on the windows system, ended up on the old DOS system with 40 pounds of manuals to look through. Had 3 accounts assigned at once and one of the team leaders was absolutely nasty.
Tried Precyse, had absolutely NO work whatsoever for 10 days and was supposed to be full time.
Tried Interpro, what a joke!!! They act like you are taking up precious time if you even ask a single question (like how to set up the stupid program they send you).
Tried a foreign company, the work I saw that they were sending to the hospitals was so bad I didn't want my name associated with any of it!
Been with eTransPlus now since August 8, so far so good. Wanted to go with Transcription Solutions but they don't do training on any shift but days and I'm a night person.
Still looking for a part-time job, but with 20+ years I'm NOT working for 6-7 cpl without spaces!
I saw in a newspaper last night that nursing assistants are making 15 an hour now and LPNs are making 25. I would make more doing something like that, but I can't. When I see phlegm, I turn a lovely green color..lol
I think there are lots of us
I don't worry about it. I'm content being mateless. Whether we realize it or not, we're probably extending our lives this way---much less stress. No relationship drama.
I just got one for $499 with XP and lots of...sm
other great things. I was going to buy this $319 Dell one, but if you spend $499 they waive the $100 shipping and handling fees. It's all there at their website....delldotcom.....and you customize whatever you want. I had forgotten that I needed a floppy drive and went right back to the website when I ordered that 'puter and added it on. I need a floppy drive to put private MDs work on diskettes so they can upload them to their systems.
Thanks--Lots to think about
I will think it over and see what I can come up with. Thanks again!
Lots and lots sm
On one of my personal computers where I had (as usual) TONS of AutoCorrects and AutoTexts stored every once in a while Word would freeze up or close down (I forget now which) and everything would be lost. So, I made sure to back up the normal.dot and the .acl (I haven't had to do this for a few years so I'm not sure I have that 100% correct) often so I could reinstall them. I also saved the documents I was working on every few minutes and made that easier by changing the F12 button to a "Save" button. One day I had a brilliant idea and went in to AutoCorrect Options and unchecked everything I could that was not important to me and it stopped happening! I only mention this in case someone else out there has this problem.
But I have TONS and TONS of entries and I have never had one just disappear without some other reason for it other than I had too many in there.
Not only that, but lots of MTs get a little
if they have too many mistakes or blanks. So the insinuation that we would be so lazy as to just send in ALL blanks is pretty silly. If our payscale is tied to our quality, the last thing we want is to leave lots of blanks.
Lots of
unhappy people here. Glad I'm not one of them. ;-)
Lots longer
I don't know - I've been an MT over 25 years, am a super fast typist, use expanders, and have a great platform and accounts, and it takes me a good 5-6 hours, with a 15 minute stretch break here and there, to make 1000 lines. Bad dictators - a good 8 hour shift to make 1000.
THANK YOU ALL, lots of inspiration! NM

There are lots of differences
Acute care is so much broader as far as need for knowledge of terminology in many different specialities. Clinic transcription can be of any specialty, but usually if you have a clinic account it will be limited to one or two specialties.
There are many different work types in acute care. Clinic work consists of mostly a history, physical exam, and plan. Acute care includes things such as operative notes, consultations, etc. which are "a whole different ballgame" as far as terminology.
there are lots of good MTs like you.sm
but they are NOT the ones that are always applying to companies...they are not the ones that leave a client in the lurch or fit the description.
I have had a lot of really good ladies working for me for a LONG LONG time now and would do anything to keep them because a good Transcriptionist is so hard to find.
But there are those that give MTs a bad reputation just like in all professions.
Good MTs do not sit on these boards blasting people asking legit questions. Good MTs are the ones always answering the word boards, equipment boards, etc with kind and thoughtful answers. There are many of those...just wish I could find one or two more
Actually there are lots of happy MQ MT's...
but it all depends on which "office" they work for - Columbus=Happy/Amherst=Unhappy.
No consistency!
LOL! Lots of OPs? Or are you an MQer too? ;)
..."was reamed," lol.
Me too, lots of bankies.
Also hubby, dogs and cats.
i do rad work & i need lots more of it!
