I completely agree. Working alone is so much better than dealing with all that stuff.

I completely agree
These ESLs work hard to learn the language before they come here, many learning it through their school years, come here and legitimately and legally set up their practices (I haven't heard of any doctors complaining that their jobs are being taken by foreigners), and they still have to fight for any respect.
you are welcome and I completely agree with what you are saying!
it seems that so many like to twist around the Word or leave parts out that are uncomfortable.
I agree completely!!
When I first started typing for MedQuist, if there was a difficult doctor, I would skip over it. As time progressed, the more typing I did, the better I got and didn't want to skip over reports, I wanted to be able to type whatever came up! If you NEVER type these heavy accented doctors, you will NEVER learn to do them. I agree with you "Got the Letter" and am waiting for my phone call!!
I agree with you completely

when EVERYONE criticizes how the government is run and how they do things? Why put your life and those of your family in jeopardy waiting on the government to help you. What happened to PEOPLE helping each other?  People seeing that their elderly neighbors get to safety? People pulling together to solve these issues? Why do so many seem to be waiting to see what the government can do for them??  The government has enough problems!  I certainly would not rely on the government for ANYTHING!  Do these people want to government telling them what to do in their everyday lives?  If so, move to a country with no democracy!

I'm finished for the time being.. but WAKE UP PEOPLE!

I agree with you completely

and believe me, they don't give a patient a discount because they feel guilty. They don't give the employees yearly raises. While they (and the 2 office managers) get their bonuses and go buy brand new cars, SUVs, boats, vacation homes and, yes, even airplanes, they have plenty of employees struggling to make ends meet. One employee (that I know of, a newly divorced woman) recently took bankruptcy and our insurance is so bad that most of us can't afford to even go to the doctor as we have $2,600 deductible for a single person!  I would NOT feel guilty one bit!

I completely agree with you . .
Did you see Tanya Tucker's reality show? I loved that. There's one about roller derby girls and a new one is coming out about rodeo cowboys - sounds exciting to me.
I completely agree - sm

I love it when they say thank you.  It makes me smile every time.  It also makes me smile and chuckle a little when I get one that will laugh at themself when he/she gets tripped up on their words.

I agree completely
Sad but so true.
I agree with you completely!
And now that many companies are cracking down on and checking quality due to client complaints and sloppiness, I would bet many MT line counts will be going down real fast.  Remember, haste makes waste... and slow but steady wins the race!
Oh, I completely agree. (sm)
I've also seen 20-year MTs who proudly announce that they don't know the difference between there, their and they're, and it doesn't matter anyway. (?!!)

It is appalling. But those people also rarely post on boards because it's just a job they put in and they don't usually want to use a computer or talk about work outside of work (in my experience).

Maybe if somebody had let them know differently in the beginning, they would have chosen another career or taken the time to learn the English language.

You are only the second English major MT I have come across, and the other one is the best MT whose work I've seen.

Completely agree
Always have two companies, at least.
i completely agree.
"Assault" may sound nicer than "rape" but it's NOT the same thing. It's the MT's job to accurately record the doctor's words, pretty or not. Of course we may correct grammar but certainly not the meaning of a document.

These are sometimes used as legal documents and that should always be taken into account.
I COMPLETELY agree.
I mean, it's not as though we have nothing else to do! These tests take a long time and unless you have no job, they are much too time consuming. The worst is when you don't pass after spending so much time.

Also, you go through the grammar, etc. and then come to that?!

I think a couple of carefully selected files will tell them everything they need to know about your skill level.

NO. Not lazy at all!
Agree completely. Sometimes I am not even
sure if I am talking to the same person when they do not use their same initials or names with every post.
I agree completely (sm)

As another poster said, our bodies "know" when we have typed a certain number of lines.  Having worked for various transcription companies, I found it difficult to even reach the minimum lines with many of these places.  I feel very fortunate to have found an MTSO that is honest.  Guess what, I am transcribing over 2,000 lines in 5 or 6 hours!  I am saving every penny possible because I know it will not last forever.

I agree completely
Well said. It's been said time and time again there are no grammar police on this board but they're here all the time just the same.
I COMPLETELY AGREE!

nice post!

Exactly. Completely agree.

I completely agree with what you say.
However, I think the companies have the upper hand with the fact that we are remote employees who never to rarely actually see each other. If there were ever some kind of group formed to work on these issues, I'd be the first to join....
I agree completely. He is nuts.
But what did I miss with Johnny Depp???
I agree with you completely. It is our government that ALLOWS this
to happen though. My point exactly. Spend money overhauling the system. Make people accoutable for their actions. That opens up money for people who really need it. Also, people here that do not pay taxes and are not here legally, give them the boot.
I agree completely. Especially the line of
"if the company makes money"! I mean, gosh -- that's ridiculous.

I wouldn't stand for it.
Completely agree, Jess.
I could not have said it better myself.

Bravo! I completely agree.

Mine isn't working either. Wonder if they've taken that ability away or archived stuff so we

Completely agree...you have to do what works for your family.
I wish you the best of luck, and keep us updated! :)
I think it is tied into working at home and not exercising the gray matter, except for MT stuff.

I agree. I found him to be very sexy. He'd always take my breath completely away!

I completely agree. I don't care how long it's been a 'tradition'.
It's pure senseless slaughter in the purest form.  Maybe they should have "running of the Spaniards" and see how they like it!
Agree completely. I have seen some god-awful things in reports.
Things that are guessed at and sometimes even legitimately looked up and searched for, unfortunately not finding the correct word.  I told an MT once, "You can't just type that this patient is on that drug just because it is for the same symptoms.  You have to type what the doctor is saying."  I couldn't believe it.  I have seen some stuff, let me tell you, and 38 cms is the least of it.  I had a supervisor ask me once if I was "sure" that ostial was a term used in a cardiac cath and that "osteal" referred to bone.  DUH!  If I wasn't sure we wouldn't be having this conversation!  Then they get clerks to listen.  Puuhlease!  I'm not even QA and I scratch my head and wonder why people like that are in this business if they aren't in it to do a first-class job.  Once I had a team leader route me a report that she had started because she said her "head was stuffy " and she couldn't hear."   I couldn't believe the report when I looked at it.  Obviously nothing looked up, not even spell checked.  My 15-yo could have done a FAR better job.  Nobody cares.  They are just in it because they think they can still make the "easy money."  It's not bad money, but it's not like it used to be.  And management thinks we can all be so easily replaced by whoever steps off the bus next.  It's very disheartening to me.
I completely agree with the advice below. Without your books, Google.
Just be sure that the entries you find are from a verifiable source; you can also access Dorland's at the Merck website (google Dorland Merck and then add to favs).

I travel frequently and have found MT an easily-adaptable job for this. You'll want to get very used to setting up and taking down your computer quickly, as well as making sure you have the correct cords, etc. Seems like a "duh" thing, but... :)

If you have money and inclination, you might purchase a couple of your most frequently-used Stedman's on CD-ROM and install before you leave on your trip. I have the equipment words, surgery words, and emergency medicine words on CD-ROM that I use without having to have the physical books handy.

Enjoy your trip!
Agree completely.....money making scheme....

I agree about the Christian stuff

I dont know if that was necessarily why she got booted last night, but it was very obvious that LAST WEEK when she did sing the Christian song, that the judges just didnt get it.  I was so proud of her for showing her faith to the world and not worrying about it being "popular" or not.

I agree...working at home with children is possible just very hard...
I have a 9-year-old and an 18-month-old and I wake up early in the morning before the kids wake up and work and then work some more during my daughter's nap...there are days I want to pull my hair out but my children don't suffer and neither does my job...thank goodness my company is flexible otherwise I couldn't do it...
I agree with Amanda. How many people reading this should be working right now?! nm

Have to agree. Kids do make working at home "different" (sm)

Mine are grown, but the grandchildren occasionally are over.  The oldest one will play his Gameboy or some cube thing all day and only occasionally ask to be fed.  However, when the youngest one can't go do daycare for some reason my world is turned upside down.  The granddaughter has it in her head that when I ask her to be quiet it means come over to my desk and whisper.  All in all, it isn't too often that I have children in my house when I work.  My hat is off to those of you who do it on a regular basis, you are queens of organizational/concentration skills.

I agree.. I would be working from home even if I didn't have anxiety attacks!
Thanks for sharing!
I agree with this; hence, my query about how folks who say that they're working for SERVICES ...
are making this kind of money.
I totally agree. Them not paying is NOT hearsay. It is fact so why let them scam hard-working MTs.
SAY NO.. to their advertising. What a scam they have going.
Unfortunately, their way of dealing SM

with what they call a "troublemaker" on that forum is to state that the discussion has gone as far as it can go and they proceed to lock the topic.  If you try to open a new topic, they lock that one also.

There are so many issues they have done this on, their advertising ethics, the cost of the BOS, not giving the journal to student members...they just say IT'S BEEN DECIDED, NO FURTHER DISCUSSION.  Really makes someone want to join, doesn't it?

Dealing with it
We went to a lot of counseling and at first I did not agree with the counselor but now I see where he was coming from.  It was worse in my situation as my husband is a truck driver and was on the road a lot and so I was the main discipline, rule maker, etc.  His son lived with us twice and when he stole our car, etc. he did go back to Florida where his mother lived as he had outstanding juvenile warrants down there that his mother forgot to tell us about when she shipped him to us.  But looking back I definitely see where it was the unstable life style and the first time that he was as bad as he was, we should not have sent him back to him Mom where he wanted to go.  That is how he controlled us was by being bad.  Now I see what the counselor was saying that no matter what he did, we were not to send him back to his mother but we did.  Even if we had to separate but basically what the counselor was trying to do was to get Jeff to quit his job and stay more at home and be with his son more which he refused to do, so the first time (age 11) he took a butcher knife to new furniture, stole money and checks and took his bicycle trying to run away to Florida.  Then he came back at age 16 and did the car thing.  But I truly think that if we had stuck it out the first time, it might have made a difference but who knows.  But my ex also had two daughters from a second marriage and I am closer to them than he is.  We are now divorced -- no children -- after 22 years but I stay in contact with the kids --well grown kids now and see them.  One got married a year ago and I went to the wedding, Dad did not.  The easy thing to do is to walk away and give up, the hard thing to do is to love them and try to shape their life somewhat.  It is hard but I really don't think it is impossible at this age.  But your husband does have to lay down some rules, give you the support when you need it and let them know that they must listen to you as well.   You are a family and I always worked with the kids mother to show unity and in fact am still friends with one of them but have gotten along with both of them better than he did.   We just tried to do what was best for the kids.  But again, they do need to know you are a united front and together and at this age, they have two choices,  follow the rules and be part of a family or not and be alone.  My oldest stepdaughter called on Mother's Day to say hello and she had lived with me/us from age 19 to 21 and gave us especially me since I was home most of the time a run for our money.  Nothing like the stepson but doing some partying, not calling, things that normal kids do.  She did move out after a little over a year but stayed in the area.  She did apologize and say that she now understood where I was coming from and wished she had been a little different but she did appreciate everything I had done for her and was glad that we were still friends.   So that kind of made my day.   Again, counseling would be a good idea.  Remember that kid is coming from a different lifestyle and we expect them to adapt immediately to our lifestyle.  Like when you first get married and your first Christmas comes along and you realize you now have to deal with celebrating Christmas two different ways with two sets of traditions, it is hard.   Good luck.  Sorry I rambled on so much.   Patti
That is exactly what I am dealing with....nm

Dealing with burnout

Hi:

Is anyone out there dealing with burnout due to their transcription job? I have been doing this for 7 years as an Independent with only 1 vacation in that time. I work weekends and holidays and feel like I am about ready to yank my freaking hair out from the responsibility!!!

Lynn

I don't like any commercials dealing with

gender, medical, racy or adult topics.  I mean, really, when's the last time you saw a feminine product on TV and decided that you simply must run to the store right away to get you some?  Cialis and Viagra?  Come on, maybe E.D. was invented to give women a break for once in their adult lives.  And all those pills being pushed by the manufacturers?  Yes, let's go to the doctor and demand pills because we're all self-diagnosing.

The only one having trouble dealing with anything is you

If your life sucks it's no one's fault but your own. Successful people take accountability for their lives and move forward instead of placing blame wherever they can and being angry at the world like you obviously are.
