the kids up massively as I type this. Totally off your subject but he just dropped on me that he is cutting all contact off from my dad since he recently remarried and intimated that he was leaving me and my brothers nothing in his will......DH also said the kids were not allowed to have any contact with him either. I can get around that and just leave with the kids when he is at work if I have to resort to that. But this is bullsh*t.....I fear if it keeps up I am headed for divorce court. He is getting weirder and weirder about money, though he professes not to care or want it. Then he dropped that when his dad (75) dies his mom (70) was moving in with us.......WHAT! So right now I am hoping that his mom goes first as he will never live with his dad, or that his dad lives another 15 years at least....We had promised my mom she could live with us, but now that she is dead, he says it will be his mother as he has to protect his interests (and the kids....as supposedely all his parent's money is to go to them.....he plans not to touch it). So needless to say I am LIVID, don't want to work right now, am not talking to him though he keeps coming in and ranting more....he has calmed down some but still driving me nuts. He has to stop drinking, that is what it comes down to....much more rational then. But I really think the writing is on the wall and it's scary as I have no where to go now.

Extra shift or extra work
Has anyone taken on an extra job or shift with a new company for a just a few months to get out of debt or to be able to pay for something that is needed or wanted? I am thinking about taking on another job to get out of a stressful debt situation. I am just afraid I would be going into another stressful situation working more hours with the very busy family schedule I have.
So, just simply summing it up. You have 2 kids, and they fight while you work, so you just
send them to daycare, and now they're "socialized". This thinking just is soooooooo beyond me! And you can all scream and call me negative, but its just a travesty. Daycare - daycare - the replacement mom of our society, and its NOT working. Kids these days are a mess - an absolute mess. I have no words to waste on this topic - its sickening. And for all the millions and millions of mothers who have NO choice but to leave the home and throw the kids in day care - sitting in an office with a heavy heart. Here you all can have the blessing of having your precious kids with you, but the slightest challenge - fighting? PLEASE! What kids don't fight? So, instead of training them yourself and teaching them to "socialize" with their own siblings, let alone their mother, you ship them off to daycare - Oh, yeah, there's the logical solution! Its just soooooooooooooo old, actually. Millions of Moms - even the big $$ CEOs, are realizing the fallacy of day care, and working from home to RAISE their own kids. Sure, its challenging, but the rewards are priceless, so cliche! Such an easy cop out to ship 'em off to daycare - let them "socialize" them...So what do your kids learn? Certainly not to behave at home. They're probably still acting out at home, while angels at daycare!
And if I fight every low-life who cheats, I won't have time to work.
i don't deal with anyone without references when it comes to work. i learned my lesson and have moved on. i leave you to fight the battles of the downtrodden.
Today is different and you cannot fight companies who LEGALLY can offshore work.
So all Americans refuse to buy goods, shop at stores, or work for companies who offshore. That leaves a mess. Do you realize a lot of American companies are actually owned by foreigners? Get real and move into 2005. You are going to spend a lot of time boycotting once you do the research. I doubt you will be able to shop or work at all.
Always asking for extra work.
Do you all get as tired as me when the QA people are constantly hawking the MTs to do extra work. Every day its the same old thing - but they do it in a very passive aggressive "pretty" way. I figure, if there's that much work constantly, hire more MTs. I mean, how much can we stare into the screen!!
Extra work possibility
Just wanted to post something that might help those of you looking for work... while I realize this is a medical transcription board, with our work being outsourced more and more each day, we have to do what we have to do to earn a paycheck.
After talking with a police officer and hearing how many hours they spend doing written reports of calls/incidents, I mentioned that it was too bad they could not dictate their reports and have them transcribed. He really liked the idea and so did I as I thought more about it. I finally scheduled an appointment with the Chief of Police and made a proposal to him. I had to do some research -- average pay per hour of a police officer x hours per day spent writing reports, etc, -- but that was not too difficult to get.
To make a long story short -- he tried this with a couple of his officers on their lengthy and very detailed reports.
Because it allows more time for actually being a police officer instead of being tied up writing illegible reports by hand, they love the idea.
I submitted my bid, which was approved, and the contract was signed. There is never a dull moment with this!
I work Mon-Sat, but only scheduled for M-F. Need the extra $. nm

Demographics/extra work
How many of you are being asked to do more demographic work and other extras in your job that do not apply to your line count? An email went out telling us that these areas "had to be filled in" because it caused too much work for the hospital if we didn't do it - but these demographics do not add to our line count - so I have a hard time understanding why we are to take 2-5 minutes in each report to do work that we are not paid for - for one report it doesn't seem like that much - but add it up to all that you do in a week - and well, that's a big pay decrease from where I stand. How many of you are dealing with this problem. It is probably not a new one - just new to me.
I would work extra if it is not asked of me
too often. Would you rather they hire extra help and then there may not be enough work to go around?
My husband is now winding down...sm
a 20-year career in the AF. I personally wouldn't trade 1 minute of it. As someone else posted, all situations are different, but mine is definitely a positive one. Over the years I have been scared out of my mind for him, mad as hell, and proud beyond words. There have been many times that we have been apart and he has missed some of my children's milestones, and it is very hard sometimes, especially trying to explain it all to a child. That said though...I don't think either of them would want their dad to be anything other than what he is. They have learned to hold close the time spent with their dad and know that what he does, he does for them and his love of this country and all that it stands for. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Are you getting extra for weekend work and holidays.
:
Where's all our supervisors on this question who have to work extra to keep
accounts within turn around time. what happens when account falls out and you can't keep it up by yourself?
Hospitals should be paying us extra to NOT go to work
It would be so so so easy to show how to win malpractice cases with what I know about the medical transcription system as it is operating now.
They'll send an email out when they need extra work done.
The bonuses are tied to taking on extra work on top of your regular workload, not production or longevity. It's per extra shift or per extra report on backlogged accounts. Call and talk to them if you have any questions.
Does anyone else earn extra money at home doing something along with MT work?
I need some ideas. Fall is coming and I will have some extra time and getting burned out on MT.
I work every holiday -- don't really mind, but would be nice to have extra pay. sm
When I worked for YOG, we got holiday pay and weekend differential. I guess those days are gone. Now, I'm just expected to work every holiday and every weekend and smile and say thanks for letting me be your slave.
I should probably stay away from the boards today ... Guess I'm Bad Mood Betty! (ha)
Do you work outside your scheduled hours to get extra lines?
Or do you stick to your schedules and just roll with however many lines you make during that time?
Don't mind extra work as long as it is not abusive
I used to always work my shift and then try to do 2-3 early Sunday mornings. I was stopped from doing that because we could not work more than 40 hours. If there is help needed after my 40 hours I certainly do not mind helping out when needed - as long as this does not become abusive and you are expected to be available 10, 12 or more hours a day, night, and weekends. I have been there and it just got out of hand. I am comfortable with less than 50 hours a week.
a *sort of fight*? It WAS a fight and this was.
I saw the show with Sarah Bernhardt and she was a *guest* and was treated so poorly by Star and Elisabeth that day. Star and Elisabeth didn't like Sarah's politics or view and attacked Sarah....Star by saying *I'm looking too cute today to be bothered by the likes of you* or words to that very effect....and then the Honey line by Elisabeth......
Is this the way people treat GUESTS? I think not. The show reached it's lowest point on that day, in my opinion.
I think the show will not survive..........whether or not Rosie or anyone else steps in. It's time to retire the show. It's beyond *leaving gracefully* now. And though I hate to say it, Barbara Walter's credibility is now pretty much shot to heck......because of this show.
When time permits, I always work extra so I have a little slush fund - sm
That way when the slow weeks come around (which they always do in this business), I can actually enjoy it instead of fretting about the money I'm losing. For the last nine months I've been doing a little weekend account (maybe 120 minutes of dictation for a whole weekend) and stashing the money away and in October I'm treating my family to a week in Disneyworld. You gotta have some kind of reward to work for - otherwise you get discouraged and unmotivated. But don't try making up the difference in one week, look longer term.
Can they do surgery extra fast? What do they do with the extra glove in the pack?

In the past when I've needed extra work could get a response from co.'s within a week and be w
Now it's like zip, zero, nothing. No responses whatsoever from my emails to the companies here and on mtjobs.com.
At first I was looking for specifics regarding hospital work, clinic work, days, hours, etc., and choosing those but later got desperate and even with 16 years experience have been applying for 7-cent-a-line clinic jobs.... STILL no response from ANYONE! Well, actually, I get responses but they are automated emails stating I've passed the test(s) and will be contacted in X amount of days/weeks/months. Then I never hear back even with a followup email. In the past, I could get a new job within a week or two.
I don't know. I was thinking maybe they're thinking that with 16 years experience it would be easier to go with someone with less experience (for whatever reasons), so I'm considering just putting down 5 years or so as my experience instead of the truth. Could be they don't want to deal with this old dinosaur and want new blood, I don't know.
Long and winding road, but back in high school
My favorite album was Sgt. Pepper's, I listened to it over n over until the tape wore out and finally broke. I keep meaning to replace my old collection with CDs. I used to have posters of the Beatles all over the walls, collected those circle john lennon sun glasses, the whole deal.
No, usually it's just winding up as all the kids bring home crud from school.
The 4th of July is slow. Christmas is never slow for me.
After about age 35-40 everything's picked over anyway.
All that's left are:
1. Some loser that his wife threw out. If someone else didn't want him, there had to be a good reason. I don't either.
2. Some mommy's boy who's lived at home decades beyond what is appropriate. Total head-case here. Cheap, immature, incapable of making a decision without Mom's involvement and approval. No thanks.
3. The fat, the bald, the lazy, the angry and anything else that the rest of the female population considers undesirable.
If you're over 40, get a pet. They love you nomatter what, they're always happy to see you and they're not in need of therapy and/or medication.
it can be picked up and what you are
transmitting or receiving can be monitored by others. hipaa, you know.
They could have at least picked a guy with
nice white teeth, not yellow! Yuck!
eat them now, they were picked eons ago.
why wait?
She picked Steve.
xx
You know, she could have picked better songs
Sure they were done by Elvis, but she could have picked better songs, and she could have done better with the ones she picked. People complain that the guys should have done a Bette Midler week, but I could just see Elliott doing Wind Beneath My Wings, or Taylor doing The Rose...they would just have to pick songs that best suited them from that artist and then just do a great job. She should have tried Love Me Tender.
I think you have picked wisely
because the field for nursing is unbelievable. Having worked at hospitals, doctor offices, etc. I heard from nurses not only the $$$$ salary but the perks that go along with it. One nurse told me about how she got her living expenses covered by 2 doctors vying for her working for them. I have been here for 30+ years so I am not in the same boat trying to raise children, etc. but if I had to do that now I would never be able to live off the salary handed to the MTs now. Good luck!
I picked up the Homedics Shiatsu
neck massager at Walgreen's last month, and it's so relaxing! Eight or ten minutes at bedtime and I fall asleep immediately. For anyone with tense neck muscles, this is a must-have. I've tried the seat cushion too-- nice!
The signal cannot be picked up on wireless if you
even if you DON'T, they can only pick up and use your SIGNAL for access - not YOUR actual online activity. How this fallacy began is beyond me. If your activity could be monitored just because you use wireless then satellite internet would not exist and Linksys would be out of business. Many MAJOR corporations, banks and government entities use satellite internet on laptops for salesmen, traveling employees and others who work out of the office in the USA and overseas. Do you think they would risk it if there were an actual problem? Your Keystrokes are more likely be picked up by spyware, adware, viruses and worms which are prevalent on ALL internet connections. If any MTSO had a problem in the past it is because their own site was not properly secure - it had nothing to do with the type of internet connection. The MTSOs are denying employment to a lot of good MTs just because they live where DSL and cable are not available. All based on what is, in my book, an OLD WIVE'S TALE.
Is there a reason you picked Colorado or was it

I picked up a brochure and it stated that --sm
the student version did not come with outlook 2007, which I happen to like. Guess it will be the next up version for me. sigh.
I have not picked up a book in forever
I go to the Internet for everything I need to know. Keep in mind that you need to find reference sites that are legit, then the Internet is the way to go. In fact, my books are packed in a box and I have no clue where that box is. The exception to that is my Book of Style, and it is a rare use item, as well.
cherry-picked routing to VR and offshore
Ethical to route the work in a systematic way according to the documented processes of your company. Unethical to route work "as you see fit" if "as you see fit" is defined based on who you like and who you don't, as you described above. Tired of hearing the complaining? Get over it and get used to it, because it isn't going to stop and it is only going to get worse.
On what basis to you know that the "paranoid" plotting and speculation about dictation being cherry picked to go to India or VR is unfounded? I notice the natural variation in who is dictating, etc., the true "roll of the dice" as you describe it, and that doesn't bother me.
It isn't that it "has" to be more than just fate. It is more than just fate.
VR and offshore transcriptionists can't handle the tough dictation, yet we know they are being used. Do you think what is being routed to VR and offshore is random, the luck of the draw? I don't.
So I don't know why I shouldn't suspect that if on the average, in an ongoing trend, dictation is getting worse for domestic transcriptionists to a degree that could not be a cooincidence, it means that for reasons other than coincidence, easier work is being routed somewhere else.
I can tell you are comfortable with "the way things have always been," and change makes you nervous, but get used to the fact that whether it has always been this way or not, it is not going to continue to be that way.
Get used to the ideas of MTs standing up for their rights and fighting back or quit reading the complaints and type away in your happy, sheltered world. The status quo is not going to continue.
my supervisor cherry picked the normal
cataract surgeries, normal any other type of surgeries she could using the same illogical reasoning that you have used. That is because she is too incompetent to do transcription.
They offshore so you get the cherry picked leftovers.
Sound quality is lousy. Totally rigid on their schedule. They have the attitude that you should be grateful to work for them.
I'm sorry you feel picked on. Yours was the post I responded too because SM
yours was the one I found to be most unbelievable and in case you didn't notice, I wasn't the only one who found it unbelievable.
Maybe you picked the wrong week to stop

The only way to fight this (I do know what you mean now) is to SM
refuse to work for companies like this. I've said it many times before. I have worked at two hospitals as an at-home employee. Many accounts for other hospitals, fill-in stuff, doctors' offices.
The company I work for ow is pretty large, its employees national, from PA to Alaska.
We do have account specifics. But somehow, some way, the MTSO has always kept our "welfare" first and foremost, except for some niggling problems with turnaround time that *I* don't agree with. They are fairly minor, I just get aggravated over the hospital thinking they own us.
We are assigned a certain number of minutes a day...whatever we've asked to get. If we do that in 15 minutes, wonderful. We just made a jillion dollars an hour. If it takes us 10 hours, well, we made less.
We can plan our lives. We make decent money. She absolutely does NOT let anybody pull the above crappola on us. There's somebody else on this board who works for the same person. I imagine she feels pretty much the way I do, but I can't swear to that.
SAME fight again with DH....
Please tell me if I am wrong. I told my husband that I need an ergonomic keyboard now as my hand and arm have been sore and achy recently. I am going to do whatever I can to avoid CTS. Well, bills are tight, of course. The thing is I asked him IF we can swing it anytime soon, can we get one. Here's the thing: I take $100 out of my paycheck every 2 weeks for spending money, i.e. going to lunch with friends, w/ my kids mind you. He tells me to use my spending money to but the keyboard instead of going to lunch. Okay. The thing is lunch every couple of weeks is the only time, and I mean only time, that I get to go anywhere due to time/money issues. HE on the other hand constantly goes to his dad's after work, where all the boys hang out, and comes home after a couple/few hours of hanging out. That does not bother me. What bothers me is that he doesn't get that it will always cost money for me to go out because either we pay a sitter or I have to pay for something, Lucky him that the beer is provided. Must be nice to have your freedom. I don't think he really gets how good he has it. I am the only wife that doesn't give him an earful when he comes home after being out with the guys.
Am I being a shrew?
Like I said, not your fight...sm
As long as it is not your husband I would not lose sleep over it, nor should you let it cause a fight and tension between you and your hubby. What his friend does is his business. Breathe....and let it alone. Chances are this isn't the first time he's found a "friend" in a bar and won't be the last.
Maybe we can fight them together!
I have never given up looking for ways to shut them down. The more we come forward -- the best chance we have of the right people hearing us! What comes around goes around and Toth has it coming!!!!
ONLY WAY TO FIGHT THIS IS...SM
to educate the public in general, on a population-wide basis, that their private medical information is being sent halfway around the world. As with any big business abuses here in the U.S (banks, credit card companies, etc, etc) it happens because the government allows it. If there are strict privacy laws re. patient medical information, how then does it extend to giving the whole world carte blanche to it, even sell the info to insurance companies and the like?? The PUBLIC has to be made aware of it... the media is best... but I wouldn't be above passing out fliers in doc's waiting rooms or hospital lobbies. A lot of wheels have to squeak first before this one gets any grease!!
First , I am a seasoned MT, no need to train, tapes are picked up, i type 'em. and that is about it.
dd
Yeah, that is why he picked Condi Rice as Sec of State. nm

Nope, my hubby picked mine up last year and
hopefully his deductions will clear out mine this year.
I'm not starting a fight.
I just wanted to know why you thought I had no friends because I don't like the skank. That's how it came across by responding right under my post about not liking Angelina. Or did your post directed toward another person go in the wrong spot under mine?
