Just be aware that Alt/ puts Instant Text into full layout and when you are in full layout, Instant Text expands in the Editor window of the IT program, and not in the word-processor you may be using.

Another keyboard shortcut like Alt- minimizes Instant Text and you don't see the advisories anymore. However, you stay linked and IT would still expand.

Also, make sure you don't have another Expander running at the same time.

I am new to MT and am lucky enough to have a job where I can learn as I go.  I wanted to see if someone can tell me some of the keyboard shortcuts, like ctrl + B for bold, or function key information so that I can use the keyboard more and my mouse less.

I hooked up the mini receiver to the USB port, put all batteries in as directed, used the CD to install, turned off and then back on computer but when I type on the keyboard or use the mouse, nothing registers.  I have to then hook up my plug in keyboard and mouse (why I am able to type right now). 

What am I doing wrong?

I have an HP desktop with MSWord, less than a year old, laser mouse. 

I had a lot of problems with the keyboard, which was finally diagnosed as "keyboard failure".  It was replaced, but it seems to be happening again and that the mouse is getting in on the action. 

I want to know what the "computer speak" would be for the issues below. I'm trying to describe them in a letter. Indeed, is there a pithy way or phrase for:

1--Using the mouse or page up key cause a "stutter"--the text appears repeated (which was not actually typed) and the cursor won't move upward. The page sort of "stutters" or flickers and movement is stuck. I usually muse use the outside bar to break free and navigate up or click to another spot on the page and try again to move up via the mouse or the key.

2--Often, at the end of a document, I hit page up or the arrow up, nothing responds on the page. I may have to use the mouse to click on the page which then will get me a response to those keys' use.

As well, could either of these problems be related to my keyboard settings?

That key printing never wear down because the letters are part of the key itself.  They just don't make them that way anymore because it is too expensive to make.  Some of the mechanical keyboards like Cherry have what they double shot key imprinting and the letters are part of the key itself and don't wear off. That IBM keyboard is very noisy from the type of keyswitch it has so you may not like that.  Logitech and Belkin make some membrane switch keyboards that are supposed to have longer lasting key imprints.  I have a logitech that has the longer lasting key imprints and it is pretty good.  You have to look on the specs to find out if has the longer lasting key printing.

I have experimented so much with keyboards and have done a lot of research.  Way too much info.
