African Grey
I have had an African Grey for about 10 years, but he is about 25 years old. He belonged to my grandmother and she left him to me when she passed away. They are wonderful pets. He is a great talker. He can mimic voices and sounds. He still talks in my grandmothers voice sometimes...
I would definately recommend an African Grey to anyone. The only con that I can really think of is that they can be quite messy. But if you can put up with some mess an African Grey would make a wonderful pet!!

Have had parrots for years.
We have had an orange wing macaw and now have a Timneh African gray. The orange wing and I think most Amazons are VERY loud. Our gray is a much better pet and a wonderful talker. Smokey has a couple of times a day where he will " mutter" to himself, and splash in water bowl and get a little rambunctious but nothing like the macaw. I would definitely recommend a gray over a macaw or Amazon.

Troubles with Teething - Baby, Baby, Baby
Hi. My little guy is teething soooooo bad and I am wondering if any of you have some ideas that I can try, to hopefully make his life (and my life) a little easier to deal with? lol. We've tried Tylenol - with little pain relief, but much diarreha! We've tried Orajel - it seems to wear off too fast to make a difference. We've tried teething toys - help for only a few minutes (not nearly enough time for me to get any work done!). His appetite is normal, but his sleep schedule has been totally disrupted (as has mine). For the last 2 nights, he has woke up every couple hours. I would think he would be exhausted during the day....but he never goes to sleep. He is more fussy than usual and alittle more clingy, but overall he is very playful. His pediatrician gave me some suggestions (the above) that I have tried with little to no help, so I am desperate for new ideas! He is cutting multiple teeth right now (and just got a few new ones last week too) so he is in a lot of pain. Poor little guy. I appreciate all ideas that anyone has. Thanks in advance. :)

Doctors are definitely their own breed.
I used to type for a doctor who I swear had his own dictionary. He was always making up words and also using really big words that nobody ever uses. I guess it made him feel smarter and above us lowly transcriptionist. He was a very nice guy. He just insisted on using words that were not words. When you typed him, you worked for every single line you got. Your situation is exactly why I hate verbatim accounts. We had one doc that wanted us to type his reports exactly as he dictated them. He never once used a verb. Terrible-looking report, but docs get what docs want.

in comparison to the real men of the movies even ten years ago. It is actually scary to me that a woman would be attracted to this type of guy because they are kind of unisex/feminine and I really would hate to lose all the real men out there if the trend continues. Fortunately Jude Law's movies did do badly and this trend may be a passing misread by producers who were trying to ride Leonardo Decaprio's coattails on Titanic which was viewed by millions of teens.
Nothing personal. I just don't like pretty boys. I want a guy to take care of me and won't borrow my hair styling products and my clothes.

There's no guarantee yours will be a talker. As others have said, they can easily outlive humans, so before you get one, please have an agreement with relatives.

IMO, in general, African ESL dictators are the worst....nm
But the worst of all, in my experience, are a few good-ole-boy Americans who just don't care, talk literally faster than the speed of sound, mumble garbled phrases, and deliberately try to make their reports as hard as possible to transcribe.
There is no excuse for this. At least the ESLs have the excuse of a language barrier.
The kids' "holiday" programs at school were full of African and
Hanukkah music, but there wasn't an African or Jewish person in the gymnasium. Everything else was nondenominational. What I want to know is why the minorities have the majority vote? Shouldn't there be an equal amount of Christmas music?

I was fuzzy on the Ellis Grey situation too. Apparently back in the day, she and chief had something. Must have been in the 60s, took the low/safe road and married a professor or something but she hated him. When she was admitted, chief visited her and it was like her Alzheimer's went away for a minute. I missed the first few episodes because I was like, who can top ER, but I am hooked. I have not been so hooked on a show since I was in college (can you say "I pity the fool")

I haven't seen it yet. I taped it though--will watch tomorrow. I watched part of first episode and wasn't really interested. Accidentally taped the whole thing after taping Desparate Housewives a couple of months ago. Decided to watch the whole episode that night and now I watch every one! Love it! Can't wait to watch it on tape!

Meredith wound up with her hand in the guy, bomb had not gone off. EMT had run out of the room Derek was told that Dr. Grey's was now the hand holding the bomb which seemed to be a shock to him, Makes you wonder what will happen next week.. Bailey's husband was in surgery following his accident. Derek performing surgery, patient's brain exposed and he would not leave him. Derek's wife taking care of Bailey.

Watching Grey's Anatomy and never
saw it before. I couldn't tell if they were daydreaming, going back or going forward. I missed a couple of seconds when the phone rang and the Asian girl who was pregnant is in the hospital and the doctor is cuddling her. Did she miscarry?

Was anyone else freaking out at the end of that show? I swear..I hate when I get so involved in a show like this. I am so into the Denny story line. I wish George would have rushed Izzie and stopped her. I can't believe she would do what she's doing.

I had set my VCR to tape Grey's Anatomy last Thursday b/c I thought they were starting a new season; however, my tape was full and it didn't tape! I was on the edge of my seat the last episode and didn't want to miss the first one this season. Somebody please tell me it was a rerun. If not, can anyone catch me up on what I missed????? To get rid of june bugs you need to get rid of grubs. You can
use Milky Spore but it is expensive and can take up to 3 years. You can put products on the lawn for grub control and that will eliminate the June bugs.

June was $105 w/o the AC on-- drip pan was rusted out - sm
and needed replacing, unfortunately they could not just get that part for some reason, and had to get the coils to....$645 later, it is fixed as of Friday (we went a month not using it since if we did have it on it would drip into the furnace and rust out the parts there, and have a river run across the garage soaking things too). So normally in the summer the electric runs from $120-$160 with the A/C on. I think we will try to use it less. We have made it this far w/o and it has been around 90-95 every day, with very high humidity (yuck). Electric actually jumped from $90 to $105 since we have fans running non-stop, still cheaper than running the A/C though. Have had a few cooler days now (80s) and cool nights (60s) so that has helped a lot.
Moving to Hawaii in June!
I will be working from 4 am til about 10 or 11 and then going to have the rest of the day to enjoy the sun and surf! Lived there before and loved it and can't wait to get back.

No doubt a travel agent could give you an idea of how things are. If it was me, I think I'd wait a bit. They were hit pretty hard, and there is a lot of cleanup, I'm sure.

I just found the best spray for June bugs sm
and spiders, ants and those yukky black and yellow bees that go in the ground. I have June bugs something awful this year, hundreds banging around my house. And those bees were so bad last year I couldn't get in the garden, they had invaded everything and got in the house as well. I talked to a farmer who used this stuff called Suspend. He said it really worked but it was expensive. I found some on the web and mixed a couple gallons and went around the foundation, under the decks and sprayed a bunch in every bee hole I could find and wow, it's like magic. I haven't seen one bee scouting around the holes, no ants in the house anymore or in the gardens and not one spider. We get those big wolf spiders and I found 4 dead ones in the alley. It's great. It's $40.00 for a bottle (I think its a pint) and it makes around 11 gallons. I bought it at http://www.doyourownpestcontrol.com. No, I am not a distributor nor do I make any money off referrals. Just recommending something I finally found has worked.

Am curious if anyone's else is outrageously high. Mine typically is $150-200 for summer months.
I keep temp at 82 during day, 78 at night. Temperatures here soar to 95-100 though. But, I live alone and have gas hot water, gas stove.
Working at home has its pluses and minuses! Leaving the air off for 8-10 hours a day while I was at the hospital working saved me a lot of cash in this utility bills.

last month was $299. If this year is anything like last year, July will be $500 and August $600. I keep it at 78 to 80 all day.
