I bought the QLDB 2007 CD a couple of weeks ago...sm..

It seems fine.  It's the first electronic version I've ever had so I don't have anything to compare it to.  It was highly recommended over the Drake & Drake electronic version so I went with it.

I have QLDB 2007

there is not much difference between that and 2006.  the big difference between 05 and 06 was the search function.  06 would not let you search starting with an asterisk for a wildcard.  07 is the same.  but i just tried searching for part of a word without a wildcard and it brought up words that had that part in the middle.  so it seems you do not need the asterisk at the beginning of a search.

to be honest, i rarely use my electronic references.  i mostly use the net and sometimes will double check a finding with an electronic ref.

i update my references on CD for the tax credit.  and as a backup.

i use QLDB 2007 - sm

I just tried using a wildcard search starting with *...and it would not let me.  It will only let me start with a letter, then add the wildcards.  Hope that helps!

OOPS! I meant QLDB 2007 (please read above)

I have only been at it for a couple of weeks..
Having several years experience, I thought I could step right in and nail it.  There are a variety of issues/concerns most importantly the accents, getting use to the different accounts (I have several) and unrealistic expectations I have set before myself.  It is a good thing I get paid by the hour because if I got paid by the line, I would be starving!!!  Some files are easy to zip through, others are are a real dragon!!!!  I am going to give it more time though.  I have wanted this position for a while and I don't give up easy!  Thanks for letting me vent.
One of our MTs just went a couple weeks ago. nm

I'm going there in just a couple weeks.
I'm going to Sedona to check out Valley Verde School for my son. Are you familiar with it?
I also bought an Acer monitor from there in 11/2007
Mine still works great, though.
You do it for a couple of weeks and then stop.
He might like it enough that he comes to you.   Marriage is a lot of give and take, unfortunately it is 70/30 a lot of the time.
I got a call a couple of weeks ago, the #
was 777-777-7777 and the guy was obviously Indian.  I didn't understand anything he said, told him so, and hung up.   You can Google the # if you want to find out who it is, though a lot of times it isn't a real #.
I haven't had to fill up in a couple of weeks.
I don't go anywhere too often during the summer or I ride my bike. I think it's about $2.29 for the cheap stuff.
I asked this question a couple of weeks ago.
Left click on the toolbar and don't let go.  Drag the toolbar back down to the bottom and then let go.   I just did it to be sure I was telling you right and it worked.  I lock my toolbar but it doesn't seem to lock as I can move it by accident.
Newbie update from a couple of weeks ago
Sorry it took me so long to update. I wrote a couple of weeks ago about being a newbie at a company and wanting to ask about getting off QA after four months. Well, I heard back and sure enough was told that I was ready to come off QA! I am so excited! Thanks to all who took the time to give me their opinion on the subject.
A couple of weeks ago I had the same problem. It would go out, come back, go out, etc.
All the lights were on, the lights flashed as if it were sending/receiving data, but the other computers were not recognizing my network.  I turned everything off, disconnected everything, rebooted, reconfigured, and nothing worked.   It was also a Linksys router.   Linksys has a troubleshooter on their website and it showed router as working, but not connected to the internet, but it was.   You can try using their troubleshooter to see if that helps.   I ended up getting a new router and went with a Buffalo.   I have had no problems thus far.
forgot to say we had to go out of town for funeral a couple weeks after our new

Has anyone ever lived in one state and worked (for a couple weeks) in another?
My sister lives 500 miles away in another state and recently became ill.  I'd like to be able to go help her out every couple of months, staying a couple weeks and then coming home.  I could only do this if I could work while I was there.  I work for a national as an employee.

Has anyone either done this or know the rules about this?  Would the employer have a problem with this?  I realize there are different tax laws in different states.

Could I just upload my company's platform on a laptop and go?  Any advice/suggestions/experience with this would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in Advance!!!

bought a Kinesis Freestyle Solo about 3 weeks ago
The price was a little over $100 and took two weeks to do the brain retrain but it so sooo worth it. I will never go back to a Microsoft. I love that I can place each half where I feel the most comfortable, and I love the soft little clicky sounds it makes! If I was you I would find a way to pay for another Kinesis.

I have 2 middle age couple friends. One couple became pregnant from condom failure.
This is not just "irresponsible" behavior! Both couples are "fixed" now, because for them, reliable birth control was NOT. But it's an error to assume this stuff happens to people who are unmarried or irresponsible. Both these couples are raising 2nd families, now, but it wasn't "irresponsibility" that did them in!
QLDB

QLDB is a wonderful book.  You need to get some Post-It tabs to mark the different sections.  I often used the section that listed the symptom and then listed the drugs for that problem.  I had a tab for the migraine section, antidepressant section, etc.  If memory serves (I do radiology now), there is no section for just antibiotics.  Instead it would list some under, say, pneumonia and others under whatever bacterial problem they were supposed to treat.  So I put a tab on each of those sections in case I just needed to figure out an antibiotic name but didn't know what it was for.  I think there was a section for drug-type abbreviations, one for units of measure, all sorts of stuff.

I'm sticking with QLDB then. Thanks.

Me, too. I get both QLDB & Saunders new

Anyone here using QLDB 2008? (sm)

Can you do wildcard searches for drugs if you don't know the first letter?  For example, can you use *s*ax to search for "Fosamax"?  I have QLDB 2005 and I have not upgraded because someone said you can no longer do wildcard searches without the first letter (which you can do in the 2005 version). If this is so, I won't upgrade because this is a feature I really need sometimes.  I wonder if there are any other electronic drug references besides QLDB.

Thanks

I like using the books and just get the QLDB and the Saunders every Feb. when they come out. nm

Anyone else really disappointed with the 2006 QLDB?

This latest version seems like a beta version.  Could it be more time consuming with all the clicking, scrolling, and tabs required to click on?  Even the new search feature stinks as it does not bring what you typed in to the top, it just leaves it on the bottom and you must scroll to bring it up.  This one is definitely NOT built for production.  Has anyone figured out how to import things from previous versions of their drug book into this one?  I cannot figure it out with this version and my e-mails to them for help have gone unanswered thus far.

Is it faster than paging through a book?  Yes.  Is it up to the standards of their previous QLDBs?  Not in my opinion and I have been very happy with the electronic version since 1999.

QLDB 2004 & Spellchecker are taken (sm)
but I have lots of electronic drug refs, Stedman's electronic dictionary, etc., free to anyone who wants them. I'll send them media mail, glad that someone can use them, since I'm participating in the Stedman's boycott (over their new software reg policy).
I bought a wedge at Michael's for about 59 cents. Bought one for my SM
Lanier station so I could see the display and one for my keyboard.
It won't minimize so you can see Word in one and QLDB in another, and won't cut and paste. SM

There's nothing "wrong" with my CD, it's just that this edition (2007) doesn't have some of the functions of earlier versions.  It's not something you would find out unless you bought it and installed it.  If you don't care about those functions, go ahead and spend your money.  But for just the wild card or fuzzy search function there are other places on the web, that do not charge, and where you can minimize and cut and paste.

This was discussed on a couple of other MT boards, with the same conclusion and disappointment as above.

You decide.

I agree, don't like the QLDB but I do like Saunders Pharmaceutical Word Book
That is one book I purchase yearly.

A sad $11,000 for 2007, but I need to

...this is my 2nd year transcribing.  I am really going to try to pick up the pace and the money in 2008 and am looking into getting my own accounts.  If I don't do something I will have to get another job in addition to transcription. I worked for a doctor's office when I first started out making $14.00/hour, which in hindsight was pretty good for a beginner.  I guess it just takes some people longer to get in gear.  Things are really clicking for me now, and I can now fly through dictators that I used to find extremely difficult, so there's a ray of hope!  I have never made more than $15,000 per year my entire life, and I've been working since I was 14 years old - it's time darn it!

CMT since 2007 (sm)
It's not that bad. The transcription portion is not difficult. There is a CMT prep book that has much harder practice dictations in it than the test will give you. You won't get a foot pedal in the test, but you only have short snippets to transcribe.

However, the first part of the test is the multiple choice part, and that was the part I found much more difficult than I anticipated.

As far as studying for it, I personally think working is the best way to study for it. There is a lot less emphasis on the BOS rules in the CMT test than I anticipated as well. I found it to be a transcription and knowledge test, not a memorization of the endless rules in the BOS.

Just go register for it and take it. Let us know what happens!

Word 2007 is the best
I used office 2003 pro since it came out and hated it. It was so slow. I just got the new office 2007 and it is MUCH better than any other version of office.
How did you get Office 2007 when it has only --sm
been released to businesses and is not available to the general public yet?? just curious. (wish I had it)

Thanks for the info!
QL DRUG REF 2007 . . . WHAT DO YOU USE INSTEAD

I have always used Stedman's QL electronic drug search reference material.  I loaded my 2007 and discovered that they have built in something called a Launch Ready Reference Bookshelf  that completely changes the way the drug reference works now.  One thing that is missing is the fuzzy search, which I have always loved and used tremendously.  I called Tech Support at Lippincott and at Stedman's and they both tell me that it is no longer part of the program and this new Bookshelf is going to be linked to all of their electronic products -- hence no fuzzy search.  So, my question is, what is everyone else using.  I have the Saunder's Pharmaceutical Word Book 2007 and I hate it as well, it takes too long to load and uses too much RAM to leave loaded.

Hope someone else has found an answer.

Word 2007

If I buy Word 2007, can I put it on more than one computer in my house or is the license restricted to just one computer?  Thanks for sharing if you know the answer.

Word 2007

Has anyone had any issues; good, bad or indifferent, on Word 2007.

Thanks

Word 2007

I updated to Word 2007 - I took the time to watch the learning videos and was able to create new macros and boilerplate very nicely.

But I have lost all my add-in word books and dictionaries that were in my tool bar. Does anyone know how to get them back?

2007 survey
Says MTs make an average of $27K a year.

Remember pay is production based. If you don't have experience, you're going to be slow.

I would advise you to enroll in one of the better schools. You're going to have a very difficult time getting a job otherwise.
Word 2007 sm
Word 2007 or Office 2007 was made for Vista and, I believe, is not compatible with Word 2003 or Office 2003. Perhaps they have another file conversion tool on their site. This is the only reason why I cannot upgrade to 2007, although I would love to. There are many platforms and programs that are not compatible with it, as yet, either. It is MS way of trying to *force* the general public to upgrade to Vista, which I think stinks, but there are so many programs and companies that just are not ready for the change. They will also soon stop support for XP home edition, as well, but will continue supporting XP pro for a while yet. good luck to you.
Word 2007
Could users of Word 2007 share what you think of it, please.  Do you like it, hate it, etc.  How does it compare with other Word versions?  Thank you.
RE: Word 2007
It is ok. You just have to learn how to work it. It works a lot different than the other. You have to learn where everything is. But, I am using it and not much trouble with it. The old one was the best one.

I am trying to start using word 2007. There are a lot of things that I copy and paste. When I copy (ctrl+c) it does copy but when I try to paste (ctrl + V) it does not paste. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?
word 2007 Help
I am trying to get used to Word 2007. When I try to copy (CTL +C) and paste it will not paste with CTL + V. I have to use the mouse and click on the paste button. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Word 2007
Word 2007 does have its issues/quirks. We are having problems with its compatibility with our programs too.
If you can locate a copy of Word 2003, I recommend you get one. I bought a copy from e-bay. It was used, but I only paid $40 for it, and it works just fine. You can still have Word 2007 or other versions on your computer too, just don't overwrite your other versions is you are able to find a copy of 2003.
Word 2007
Good point. Thanks.
