I am very well aware of the differences between the 2. As I stated below

in my post, I use GuildFTP server software. It is on my computer and the files are stored on my computer. It is completely secure. I pay absolutely no fees, because if I did I would have to pay them to myself. The files are sent from the physician's offices to my server which is in my living room. It does not go through anyone else to get to me. I have a static IP address which their FTP software (usually cuteFTP) uses to connect to it.

There are lots of differences
Acute care is so much broader as far as need for knowledge of terminology in many different specialities. Clinic transcription can be of any specialty, but usually if you have a clinic account it will be limited to one or two specialties.
There are many different work types in acute care. Clinic work consists of mostly a history, physical exam, and plan. Acute care includes things such as operative notes, consultations, etc. which are "a whole different ballgame" as far as terminology.
not VAST but there are differences.
I went with the electronic fee - $75.00. Some differences in...
benefits, but all in all it's better as far as I am concerned.
Sometimes cultural differences....sm
Can give the wrong impression. I've personally met Indians and Pakistanis, physicians and otherwise, who are absolutely delightful--IMO, far nicer than New Yorkers and other damyankees who tend to be what a southerner or East Texan would consider rude, abrupt, and plain downright hateful. I think those yankees just often have to live in an environment of wall-to-wall people and thus erect bobwire boundaries that a Texan or Oklahoman cannot understand or forgive. Just keep 'em away from me, I have little tolerance for their cold behavior. On the other hand, some yankees are the best, nicest people you'd ever hope to see.
India is wall-to-wall people too. It's not fair to form one's opinion of people by their nationality or ethnic background, just because of a bad experience with a few or a certain number.

Basic 4: H&P (history and physical), CN (consultation notes by specialists on staff), OP(erative) reports, DS (discharge summaries) - reports dictated while patient, having experienced a(n acute) problem, is admitted and being treated in a hospital. They encompass all disease processes, procedures, specialties, medications, analyses, surgical equipment, tools, anesthesia, etc.
Multispecialty clinics, i.e., specific specialists consulted by outpatients including OB/GYN, opthalmology, neurology, psychology, psychiatry, orthopedics, urology, hematology-oncology, internal medicine, pediatrics, gastroenterology, family practice, etc., etc.
Did anyone see the news yesterday about the differences
They said that carpal tunnel syndrome was a very rare condition and it does not come from overuse such as typing, game-playing, etc. They did quite a good job with the show. I am convinced they are right. We get repetitive strain injury, not CTS. I believe them.
I think as the medical community finds out more about injuries and diseases and medications, we have to adjust our thinking.
They certainly made a believer out of me. What do you think?
foot pedal differences
What is the difference between a 9-pin and a USB foot pedal?
No, there are absolutely no differences between Shorthand and Speedtype except the price.

Ad-Aware SE
I have XP sp2 and have no problem using this.
What would you do if you are aware of a
already brought it to the Docs attention, but he doesn't care as long as he is making money (and he makes it hand over fist). Without going into detail....should I report him?
Are any also aware that--sm
In doing my taxes this year with an electronic program, and a feature to find more deductions, I clicked on a few of these added deductions and I was extremely surprised to find one that actually gives a deduction for people with their own home businesses if they use India personnel to do business with. Now how many people would take advantage of a deduction on their taxes if they outsourced to India? Quite a few, I would say, if all they thought about was the bottom line! In my view, it is pretty sad when our own government is undermining its own American jobs and population to third world countries! JMO
Perhaps you are not aware sm
of how much grammar rules have changed over the years, particularly when it comes to punctuation. As I said, I learned this long ago. And you are right in saying that the method I was taught is British, although I grew up in a small town in the U.S. Here is a quote from a British grammar site:
There are peculiar typographical reasons why the period and comma go inside the quotation mark in the United States. The following explanation comes from the "Frequently Asked Questions" file of alt.english.usage: "In the days when printing used raised bits of metal, "." and "," were the most delicate, and were in danger of damage (the face of the piece of type might break off from the body, or be bent or dented from above) if they had a '"' on one side and a blank space on the other. Hence the convention arose of always using '."' and ',"' rather than '".' and '",', regardless of logic." This seems to be an argument to return to something more logical, but there is little impetus to do so within the United States.
Ad-Aware
Also my neighbor who is a computer whiz and qeek put Ad-Aware on my computer and I run it once a week.
I am aware of that. I even have
2 acute care accounts that do not follow JHACO recommendations. All of our accounts specs are essentially to BOS standards with exceptions for the facility or specific dictators requested noted.
I was simply curious what other companies that use the BOS as were doing and that is why I asked specifically about companies that use the BOS as a guide.
No not that I am aware of...sm
They are a small company. I don't think they have enough work to outsource.
Yes, I am aware...
that they are 2 different features. I generally use AutoCorrect, sometimes AutoText. My files are saved in a different location than normal for Word 2003. I had an issue with this a long time ago when I was trying to move them to a different program, but I was able to find them eventually. As I said above, adding entries directly into my main Word program saved them into EXText, maybe that will help OP as well.
I'm aware of that but - sm
wasn't aware that it wouldn't show up on the pay stub. It was for this reason I wanted to verify that I was covered ... you never know with these companies, especially if you live in 1 state and the MTSO is located in another and the payroll office is in a third state.
i know, i'm aware of these things, but don't you think too
that the aggressiveness, persistence of the family of the victim makes a HUGE difference as to the continued media play?
Something all MQers need to be aware of -- why
Here is a post buried deep down the page here. (I'm going to repost it here for us to re-read)
I too am refusing to move over to ASR. and I too run out of work all the time
yet I can dial in and find work later - that was actually on the system for hours
before when I had dialed in earlier and been told NO JOBS!
SO WHERE HAD THAT JOB BEEN? WHY DID I GET A MSG THAT THERE WAS NO WORK? ..
The work room has obviously been not truthful with me - and probably others. Whitewashing it.
So, here it is. And I agree - Ain't that a great thing for patient care - let the report sit there and "cook" while people decide whether they will do it or not on ASR - then if nobody is going to do it - throw the left-overs to those of us out here starving to death - dialing in for hours finding no work.

when we run out of work, I have to call in and have them special-assign me the ASR reports that just sit there like a lump and can't come to me automatically anymore since I don't (and won't) do ASR. Getting sick of it, too.
At least I do know what's going on now, after researching it via various sources. I pity the others who don't know and just assume there's totally no more work on the account at that point without checking. Those ASR reports do "turn over" at some point and go automatically to whoever's on, but they have to just sit there for awhile first, waiting for an ASR MT to come and do them. Isn't that just GREAT for patient care, too?
Post QUICK reply
i am sure you are aware that there are still hospitals out there
that have not yet adopted these rules. I type for one major hospital that still wants the patient's name typed in the report. Another still wants cc instead of mL. Had this person tested and changed it to the "correct" form, who is to say that she wouldn't have gotten marked off for changed verbatim. Nervous MT2, hang in there, and if you test again make sure you ask up front whether they want you to follow BOS or type it verbatim that way you know ahead of time.
Be aware that your benefits will SM
likely be less than what you are getting now and more importantly, THEY WILL BE TIED TO WHETHER YOU MAKE PRODUCTION QUOTAS OR NOT. Spheris has a rule where if you are not making your production quota for whatever reason you are placed on PART-TIME status and are not eligible for full-time benefits for something like 3 months.
Yes, I am aware they are messy
My cockatiels were very messy with food, etc thrown everywhere. I'm sure a bigger bird will make a bigger mess. Are there problems with feather "dust" with Greys too? Cockatiels give off this white dust constantly. We kept them sprayed with water and that helped. How often do Greys molt?
its called being aware of where we are
Its just another point at which we are compromising our personal confidential information and opening ourselves up for identity theft, etc. I don't care if the government is spying on me - i'm sure that they would be bored to tears and giggle at my net worth if they care to see my tax return or other financial info. It is the HUGE possibility of hackers bleeding me dry that worries me - ya think theres no such thing as hackers or identity theft? Just the same, talk about lemmings running off a cliff-- saying everything George does is okay he has out nation's best interest at heart - we'll go where ever he leads without question and with utter blind willingness and trust. Sounds kinda like misplaced trust to me
I'm sure she's aware of that mistake! nm

People are already aware of this and
people are starting to realize that it's not such a great idea to send certain kinds of work overseas. I just saw an article about this recently, here's a link:
http://www.aamt.org/smf/index.php?topic=3342.0
You apparently are not aware of
in this business for 25 years. Used to be able to charge higher rates, but partly because of offshoring, that is no longer possible. Raise your rates, and the work will be sent offshore instead. I see a lot of MTs on this board proclaiming what how much they should get and how much the MTSO should charge, but reality is different. My accounts are all 14 and 15 cpl. I pay my MTs 10, 11 and 12 cpl depending on the account.
Even a hospital MT supervisor told me that their MT department was getting 18 cpl for their MTs to do clinic work for the doctors at the hospital and the doctors decided they didn't want to pay that much and went with a cheaper company rather than paying 18 cpl.
What you say sounds good; but it's not reality.
Be aware that this work is also
being sent to other countries, believe it or not.
Just like MT, the quality isn't as high, but it is cheaper. That's not to say there aren't still jobs available, but they pay could have gone down quite a bit. We know how that goes!
If the patients were aware of that, they could
nm
You probably have more than you're aware of.
You are permitted to take a percentage of your utilities if you work from a home office. The percentage is determined by dividing the square footage of your home by the square footage of your office. If you don't have an office, make one, even if it is just a closet.
Education costs associated with your business, advertising, and travel are just a few more areas where you'll find deductions. You should talk with a tax professional for a better overall picture of your situation, both pros and cons.
I always assumed they were aware
They know they're a PITA and I'd bet if cherrypicking is possible on their account, their reports get typed last because nobody wants to do them. So by making their reports stat they shove themselves to the front of the line to ensure their reports get typed within a certain time frame. That's the feeling I always got about it, they get tired of waiting around for their reports to get typed so they can sign them off and go home, so this is their way of ensuring they get typed. I have several that make anything they do stat, and have complained to no avail. It stinks because they ruin the TAT for everyone else and you're forced to type their crap first while the good jobs sit and wait for hours.
OP also stated.....
"obviously upper middle class"....so that does definitely have a bearing on the response made. There are so many variables here as well as trying to compare almost apples and oranges. I'm very sorry that happened to the little girl, but they knew she had been already for for 14 hours; they don't even know where Holloway is; she was in a foreign country when she disappearing and said foreign country is not sharing any information. There is a big difference between these two cases.
With all that being said, I do absolutely agree on one thing; there has been way too much coverage on Natalee Holloway. I don't believe they will ever find her. It was much too easy to throw her weighted body into the ocean or, maybe she was sent into South America to be used as "whatever they wish to make her do". I haven't heard any reports on incoming or outgoing flights from Aruba during that night have you? All it takes is a little single engine plane to do the job.
What I stated before was---
I don't object to people breaking into food stores for water or food, but why do they need to steal TV sets, break into people's homes to steal jewelry, guns, etc. That is STEALING, folks, like it or not. Why do they need to steal TV sets now when there is no power to begin with??? If they were just taking items that they needed to survive, that's one thing, but to take advantage of a horrible situation is reverting to the law of the jungle. The fact that these IDIOTS are SHOOTING AT THE PEOPLE WHO ARE TRYING TO HELP THEM IS A CRIMINAL ACT! As I have said many times before on this board-- a situation like this brings out the best in some people and the worst in others! The ones who are doing all the looting, shooting, rapes, etc. already had that mentality and are just using this as an excuse. They are not helping anybody by doing this, including themselves.
Yes, it should be stated that 500 lph
Not many people can crank out 500 lph and if they do, it's because the account has many normals and templates. That's rare, especially in acute care.
Even if you could transcribe 500 lph, 6 cpl is still WAY TOO LOW. Do not accept that rate of pay unless you feel that's all your work is worth.
Who stated they took the AHP
I am actually a graduate from one of the top 3 schools, never had any problems finding a job after school. It is a disappointing field to get into, people expect you to work like a worker in a sweat shop. I especially feel bad for people who have been in this business for many, many years, have the CMT credential and don't get the pay they deserve. In all actuality, it doesn't matter where you got your training or your credientials, you still don't get paid what you are worth.
However, I am glad I researched the schools 3 years ago before getting sucked into one of the diploma mills.
As stated below...
...the pedal you currently have should be compatible to play .wav files.
I had one the other day that stated
Patient was given an insect at 150 mg per hour for 12 hours. Yuk!
Thank you, but I'm quite aware what HIPAA stands for.
That's why it bothers me is because so many people have it wrong. Obviously, the MTSO doesn't care about quality if she can't even get it right. What's the skin off your nose if it bothers me? Why does it bother you that it bothers me? I don't need to get over it. I'm quite happy being bothered by it. Bother, bother, bother.
Yes, I am aware but there are other places he expresses himself
on this board. I could be wrong, though, it wouldn't be the first time.
Be aware before you purchase online sm
I've never ordered any of my pets' meds online but my friend has. One of her dogs was found to have heart worms and the guarantee was not honored because the product was purchased from a website which does not guarantee its products. I can't remember which site it was; you may want to inquire before you purchase. (She ended up paying $700 for treatment.)
Please overlook any typos, it's been a LONG day.
Being aware of level of concentration
Have learned to be sort of aware of when not really paying attention, rechecking those more carefully. When I'm at my best, just a 10/20 second scroll down page eyeballing it. On the medications/dosages though, I try to get it right the first time/pay attention. Problem area used to be putting off researching something til the end & forgetting, now either do right away or in some cases mark out a bolded section to go back to if waiting for question to become clear later on, so will catch bolded area on 10-second proof scroll.
I try to be aware of this kind of thing...
and make sure to attend all family functions of this sort, just so no one can say the same thing about me! But, I agree with you, I wouldn't go to the shower either. Just curious, is your mom going? How about your sister? (Yes, I'm nosy!)
Lou Dobbs should be made aware of this - it's exactly
what he describes in one of his TV videos where he's talking about American workers' wages going down, and the fact that all these H1B'ers entering the country working for much less, even though they live here. This whole situation is a travesty, and I think all MTs, not just MQ-MTs, should be screaming loudly about this.
Yes, Ad-Aware is a good one, and so is SpyBot
Below is a link to the Kim Komando site with free downloads for antivirus software and all kinds of security software. I'm aware of where this degree could lead - sm
I worked in the HIM dept of a hospital at the beginning of my 10 years in this field, so I know what position this degree could put me in. I also know that just the fact of having a degree is more than just being an MT and it will give me advantages than I currently have.
I do feel like this is almost a lost cause and that the MT industry is reaching the point of no return (or has already). I currently work for a fairly small transcription company and I am very thankful for the work that I have, even though I don't get paid what I would like, but I do have plenty of work and it is getting me by. I chose to go back to school because I don't want everything to turn upside down and I have nothing to fall back on. I wish all the best for the MT industry and if things do turn around I would never leave it, but I don't think that will be the case.
It's Transolutions, as stated above.

Excuse me, but as has been stated
very different. I'm happy that you have a good one, but we don't all get bonuses...even if we have excellent QA. So how 'bout gettin' off the high horse and jumping to conclusions when you may not have all the FACTS?
As I stated right at the beginning....
If it were ME, I would be blaming myself. Each and everyone of us are responsible, one way or another, as to what happens in our lives. Too many people over the past so many years find it much easier to place the blame elsewhere. That is one of the problems with our society. I was "accused" of being an over-protective parent as my child grew up, but guess what, he never, ever even came close to an incident such as that, or close to being kidnapped or any of the other things going on in the world; didn't fall down steps; wasn't involved as a passenger in a car accident, wasn't around drug users or "bad" people, because I PAID ATTENTION...I didn't allow accidents. Accidents are only LACK OF ATTENTION and lack of common foresight!
Also, my "over-protectiveness" did not in any way inhibit my child's growth. He is a Gunnery Sargeant in the Marine Corps and handles great responsibility well and has the foresight and the attention needed to prevent accidents!
As for the driver of that car, I'm not trying to "take their side"....I'm just saying we don't know what the circumstances were....my goodness, we have all run over something in the road at one time or another and when the weather is inclement or it is dark, sometimes you don't know what it is. I would certainly hope that if they knew it was a child, of if they find out through newscoverage that they ran over a child, that they will come forward. I'm sure that at least 99.9999% of people out there will not willfully run over anyone. Perhaps he/she looked down at the dashboard or the left rear window for just that one second and felt a thump as he car moved on. Probably wondered what it was but had no idea whatsoever that it was a child....why would any driver in their right mind think that a 2 year old was out on the highway at 2:00 AM or midnight or whenever it was?????
as stated below, sounds like
office mangers padding their own pockets, NOT MQ policy... I would take it all the way to corporate
You have just stated my feelings exactly. nm
