I've lost more than one hard drive on Dell computers
That's the message you get normally if the hard drive if fried. I just called Dell and they diagnosed the problem and sent me a new hard drive and I returned the bad one. Is yours still under warranty?
Wow, just sit back and think a minute sm
You are getting some good advice on here. As for the company, please, don't worry about them, quitting will not hurt their feelings! Believe me, they wouldn't worry about you, not really. What if something horrible happened and you HAD to quit? They would understand. Hey, instead something wonderful happened. You are very nice to think about the company, and that says you are so nice, you really deserve what you want in your heart. This is your gift. No guilt please! You can be smart and put some away and use some to take some time off. Cover all ideas. Congratulations! javascript:editor_insertHTML('text','');

I did and hated every minute of it. I am now back to
SE and so much happier. I couldn't handle the sitting for eight scheduled hours every day. I like the flexibility of getting my required lines for the day and then typing more whenever I can. Fortunately, I didn't need the insurance benefits (my husband carries insurance) and I went back to SE after seven months of full time. I am sure there are people who love full-time, just not me. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best. Have a great day!
Is it possible to do a system back-up (hard drive information) to a USB
zip drive? Have you done it? How do you figure how big of a zip drive is needed? Thanks.
We lived on Riverfront Drive with the river running through the back yard.
I always figured it meant riverfront property or the house was in front of the river. LOL
We get them all the time. They'd sooner drive over the border
and pay cash here for medical treatment than to wait for Canada's healthcare system to kick in.
I have a friend who lost quite a bit of weight but gained it back.

I have lost my entries in autotext. Does anyone know if I can bring them back? - sm
I know this has been asked before but could not find in the archives. Thanks in advance for your help.
I use a APC ES-500 with 30 minute battery time - sm
I think it was about $60. Best money I ever spent. We don't have a lot of power outages here but every now and them have a lot of flickers which noramlly would kick off the computer. I no longer have to worry about that, and lost work if I had not saved recently.
Yes, I lost 42 pounds on LA Weight Loss, but gained back 50 a little more than a year later . .
I was on the program for approximately four months and lost 40 pounds. The weight did come off really fast. At the time I was a member, there was a rebate if you kept the weight off for one year. It sounded good, but you had to buy the supplements for the entire year, which by the end of the year added up to a few thousand dollars.
In any case, after I finally lost the weight, I got pregnant with my fourth child. I am now trying to lose the 50 pounds that I gained while pregnant, but my metabolism seems so much slower now. The weight isn't coming off nearly as fast as before. :(
Lost time?
Maybe you are all spending too much time doing searches?
In training we were told don't spend much time - let it go to QC because the clerks have all the census information, etc. that we do not have access to and it is easy for them.
Some things to consider:
If it's an old dictation (more than a couple of months), it probably won't be in the database. If it's a preop for the future, it won't be in the database; just type in what the dictator says.
I was hit by all 3 that summer, I lost power, I lost work, I lost savings...but..sm
NEVER did my employer in any way imply or threaten or dare even mention that my job was in jeopardy because I could not work immediately following a trifecta of natural disasters! My jaw agape is not at your concern about working, but at your concern that you would lose your job because of it. Companies have to have a heart in some situations. You're one MT, your company won't go under without you working for a week or 2 or 3.
Question on what the average time is to transcribe 1 minute of dictation?
I know this is going to vary widely but any sort of general idea would be helpful. I know this is a tough question!
Thanks for your help!
I'm not wasting 45 minutes of my time for a 2 minute voice file.
I'm not wasting my time on a physician who can't or won't speak half way decently, English born or not. I don't have to work for crappy doctors. I found ones who are willing to make an effort if they can't speak English, they try and spell things as do my English docs. I've been an MT for a VERY long time. I'm an excellent MT and have nothing to prove to you. Have a wonderful holiday season filled with KINDNESS. Try being a little less judgmental. Sounds like you ride atop a very high horse.
we've lost our sense of community, no more back yard fences, no more coffee klatches
It's the sense of community we miss, and there is some semblance of it here. My son has been online since age 10, and he knows the status of the marriages and pregnancies and jobs and traumas of his gameing friends, from his age on up into the 60s, male and female. They comfort each other, congratulate each other. Ranges from students to cops to medial installers to computer geeks. It's a sense of commnity that has sprung up, but that society doesn't really recognize as REAL yet, it's too new.
17, lost him to Hodgkin's; 24 the next time, divorced him then
36 the next time, happily married for 4 years. Third time is the charm.
Every time I transcribe someone who has lost their spouse...(Sm)
or other family member and is having a hard time getting through it, my heart just sinks and I feel so bad for them. It is amazing the empathy we can feel for people we don't know. This pt is having a hard time today because it is the one-year anniversary of her father's and sister's death. How very sad.
I had a doc that lost his tapes. Once time left
for vacation. Had them in his pocket. Realized that when he got to Florida. Mailed them back to me...
I would not do them back to back - I have done 2 and 3 jobs at the same time -- all PT - sm
It is possible to do of course but you will burn out fast. Now I do one almost FT (about 30 hours a week) and the other is about 8-10 hours a week-- I still get beat doing that and that is w/o set hours. I find that the older I get the harder it is to work late and I am only 40! But a mid afternoon 30-minute cat nap helps a lot in order to keep going on busy days.
Are you pregnant? That happened to me when I was pregnant. I think it
x
Best battery backup with a reasonable amount of time - just lost report when elec blinked Grrrr
nm
Paid by the minute... new to me... does $1.14/minute sound reasonable?

I recently lost 20 pounds. That means I lost 80 sticks of butter.
Going Back in Time?
Hey all! I have another side of the old MT coin for you! Well, I got the nerve up to leave that BIG national that we all know and love. I have a job with a company, actually 2, that is nice enough, but...I really miss the technology of the big nationals. I can totally remember not having work via the internet, but what I had forgotten from "the good old days" were the days when your supervisor got to "load" you with work - whether it be those old tapes or pooling work to your C-phone. THE PRESSURE! Its been only a few months, but I hate this. I had forgotten the drudge of C-phones and dialing in, and then the game of having to finish all the work in your pool "or else"... One night I started at 9 pm and wasn't done til 7 am the next morning. But I did it like a jerk. My husband was furious with me when he woke up and found me typing - when he realized I had not gone to bed the night before. He was like, just hang up! But i'm the perfect wimp personality for being dumped on - how could I hang up? The work was in my pool, or the tapes were in my desk. Remember those days? I do remember those were the days when I used to make BIG $$$$ - the tapes and work pools that you absolutely had to do, or you got fired. Period. But I don't like it, either! I am really stressed out again, and dread work each day. I tell my supervisor I only want to type around 500 lines a day, but I get double or triple that. I really hate it, and am getting really stressed out again. Its funny to me as well, with all the talk of voice recognition and Indian MTs, there are still LOTS of companies out there who use C-phones and tapes no less! So, I feel like I'm going back in time instead of forward! I just read an inspirational message on my Sparkle paper towels...I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails...shows a cute little fish, but I feel like I'm swimming backwards........................has this happened to anyone else?
Man, if I could only go back in time...
Once upon a time, back when I lived in a city, I worked three 12-hour overnight shifts at an answering service and was all by myself. It was considered full time and had all the benefits that went with that. Sometimes it was busy but most of the time not so much. If I knew about transcription back then I would have totally double dipped! All I did all night was either read, watch movies, or surf por...um...educational stuff.
Personally, I adhere to the "don't ask, don't tell" policy myself when it comes to these sorts of things. So long as one doesn't interfere with the other, go for it. Like I said, if I had the jugs for it, I'd totally be hooking up a boobie cam so I could earn a little sumthin' sumthin' while I typed away.
I think it's about time we took it BACK.
There should be a stiff financial penalty to them for doing that, too.
So let's all remember that when we go to the polls in November!
Mine too and 3/4 of the time I have to look at his back
while he puts everying in the computer. It's impersonal, it's rude, and it's the way of the future.
I applied with them some time back.
I was interviewed and asked to test. The test recordings were so full of static and hard to hear that I decided the tests weren't worth the time or frustration. I sent the recruiter an email regarding the poor quality of the recordings and never heard another word from her. Has anyone else had the same experience with their test recordings?
This has actually happened to me some time back sm
I transcribed the report. I didn't tell the doctor about it. I didn't tell the little MTSO I worked for and I didn't tell my family member. I have not ever disclosed any of the information I heard, either. As a professional, I can't be "interested" in what I am doing, not in that way. What is contained in the medical records is not my business either. I transcribed the report as any other. I have to say that the family member in question doesn't know I transcribed anything to this day, although it was years ago. It was, and is, my job to produce accurate medical records and not to concern myself to whom they belong.
I have talked to other MTs that this has happened to and they all did exactly what I did. As a fact, the MTSO above had this happen to her. A friend had an abortion, but told everyone she had miscarried. This MTSO had been working for someone else at the time and had transcribed a report that discussed the abortion. She kept it to herself because it was the right thing to do. A gal who was a nurse at the doctor's office knew both the MTSO and the woman who lied. SHE was the one who broke confidentiality, but before all was said and done the MTSO had been blamed for it, her boss had been blamed for it and there was quite a stink, but the leak didn't come from the MT end of the equation.
Done that, but it turns back off every time.
Is there a trick to keeping it on? Or did I maybe get the one messed up program?
I doubt your brother has won more than he's lost. To win that much he's probably lost 3 times
So he probably has more bills than money. Otherwise the casinos would go broke.
Thanks for your feedback. Will see about adding back the time.
/
Thank you for taking the time to post back....sm
I'm sure he must be depressed, and my brother also. I'll bring up the subject to him and see if I can make him see that they are really needing some outside help here, more than we can do just as family members. You bring up a lot of good points. Thanks again.
I know because we are back to the SAME argument but worse this time...
We have spoken today briefly. He is furious. He is saying everything is my fault, etc. I just told him I am tired of the bickering back and forth, that it is both our faults, and if he wants to do the bills he can have them - but I reminded him last time he was offered this but did not look at the bills one single time. What can I do? Nothing I don't think.
time it takes to hear back
General question for you all. I recently applied with a company that took a month getting me through their hiring process only to be told that one of their accounts dropped them so they could not hire any more MTs. Now I've applied somewhere else and interviewed, a company that sounds like a great company, but it's been about 7 days since the interview and have yet to hear back. I interviewed with them last Wednesday and was told that I would hear back one way or another by the end of last week. I sent a follow up email yesterday and have not heard anything. How long do these companies typically make you wait before hearing something back? How long before I should give up and apply somewhere else? Thanks.
I saw on this board a long time back
a suggestion that helped me. put the drugs in your Expander using maybe the first 3 consonants, ie, lidocaine is ldc. Sometimes i'll use 4 letters. for some shorter words i'll spell it out in expander, and cap if necessary. you may wish to make some exceptions to the rule too, ie for me, Neo-Synephrine is neos.
This is the last time I will post on this subject or back to you beacuse
you are most definitely a very unhappy person who needs something to fuss about...... It can never only cost 7.5% more because your social security and taxes are based on how much you make. When you add your IC income it is different for everyone, depending on what tax bracket they are in, and yes it cost me more. Even if it were 7.5% I would still say it is not worth it for ME but that is my opinion - you are free to have yours.
P.S. I do fill out my own taxes because I also refuse to pay anybody more than it is worth to do them when I can go buy Turbo Tax and fill them out myself. If you really want to see the difference, fill out your Taxes without your IC income and then put it in and see the difference!
I'm 46 and I went back to school this year full time for a BSN...sm
I was worried about because, let's face it, my short term memory isn't what it used to be LOL. Plus the program is ONLY full time. They had 1000 applicants and picked the top 70 of us. If you didn't have a 3.5 GPA, you didn't get in. But I am doing really well in school - after I got past the shock of the first 6 weeks - tons of work- and I am at the top of my class. My husband, bless his heart, is doing all the cooking and we are basically kind of ignoring the dirt. My house will be clean again another day. I am finishing up my second semester, have 3 more semesters for a BSN, and then another 2.5 years to get my masters and be an advanced practice nurse. 41 is definitely not too old! You will have to work smart to save your back but it can be done. Also MT is starting a slow slide out...you would be smart to start your second career now while you still have a job... IMHO
good luck!
A jump drive is the same as a USB drive. SM
It's basically a small device you plug into a USB port on your PC and you can store files on it (like the floppy disks of the old days but with WAAAAAAY more space!). You can pick them up at Wal-Mart now for pretty cheap. I have a 2 gig and I can back up my entire hard drive on my PC (programs and all) if I needed to.
To adminstrators. Love your new format. Could you please back the actual time of the post.
Love the little smiley faces that can be added too. And the print. Just bring back the time along with the date of post if possible.
yes I'm trying to get pregnant
My husband and I are trying I have been known to be late the soreness is what is making me think I am.. I hate waiting and I have no patience for this
LOL not pregnant!!!!! NM
z
I was pregnant at 17...
And though my circumstances were different, I do know how scared she feels, how self absorbed you become thinking of only how this will affect YOU. I absolutely believe abortion is wrong, but the other posts are right in the fact that you will not be able to make that decision for her and all you can do is love her and stand by her regardless of the decision she makes.
My mother-in-law had an abortion when she was young and it literally haunts her to this day. It is hard when you are young to see the forrest for the trees.
There is nothing wrong with stating your opinion in LOVE, but it definitely needs to be followed with...I will love and be there for you no matter what decision you make, if you still want a relationship with your neice.
Pregnant at 16
I became pregnant when I was 16. I was told by my family "you will have an abortion" when the initial shock hit. Then, I was told "you will put the baby up for adoption." I went with my ex-boyfriend (who is now my husband going on 10 years and our child is 12) to talk to a co-worker of his who had an abortion - she said DON"T DO IT! I was made to look through family profiles to consider for adoption. Then when I finally stood up for myself and said wait a minute - THIS IS MY CHOICE, I was taken to talk to my minister to talk me out of keeping the baby. His words were "God has given you this gift and has a purpose for this baby, do what is in your heart." Needless to say, I didn't give it a second thought and decided to raise my child. I did so with the support of my family realizing they had been wrong to judge me and try to make my decisions for me, also with the support of the birth father (now my husband and we have a 2nd child too). I beat the odds, I finished high-school, went to 2 year community college and got a very good job. When our son was 2, I was 18 and husband was 20 - we decided that we wanted to be together, we had grown up and 6 months later got married.
My advice to anyone who finds theirselves in this situation is "do what is in your heart" and do not listen to other peoples opinions, judgements, etc. The decision she makes for her and her child is between her and her God if she chooses to ask him to help her with her decision. If she choses abortion, that is her right (I am a Pro-Choice Christian). I do feel abortion is wrong, but no more a sin than any other as God sees sin as sin, not at different levels. I would hope your niece would choose the option that is right for her, hopefully adoption or raising it herself if she wants and thinks she can do it. What she needs now is support from her family, not criticism or judgement - whether you agree with her decisions or not.
Just my 2 cents, having been there and having assessed all angles myself and now knowing what its like to be in those shoes
Pregnant
I had a son at 16 and raised him on my own. He is now going to be 11 and I am married to a great guy and we just had a daughter together. There are other forms of birth control. The nuva ring is awesome you only take it out for 1 week.
Pregnant or not pregnant??
Okay, I have a total non-work related problem that I need some feed back on.
I am 1 day late on my period, (my periods are usually right on time), and I took a home pregnancy test and there was a very faint line. So, I went to the store to get one of the digital ones, because they tell you "PREGNANT" or "NOT PREGNANT". Well, it says "not pregnant", but then I ejected the stick out and there is a pretty bright, while still a little faint, blue line. The ClearBlue Easy website says if there is any line at all, faint or not, then you are pregnant.
I am just confused. We have been trying for months now and I just want to know. I guess I will find out sooner or later, but if anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it!!
THANKS!!
Pregnant or not pregnant?
Ummmm....it's called gynecologist, go see one and he/she will tell you for sure. Congratulations if you are!!!!!!!!
Any pregnant MTs?
I have been an MT for one year and I am currently 3 months pregnant. Lately I have not been able to focus on my work I have been struggling to stay awake. I dread coming downstairs in the morning to do my work because I know it is going to be a struggle to stay awake and stay focused. Does anyone have any suggestions. I currently work 6 hours a day and do a line count of 2100 lines per day. I just don't know what I can do to stay focused and to get my work done. I take a lot of breaks but sometimes I do not even return from my break. I am an independent contractor. Oh, also I have a 20-month old sone at home with me as well while I am working. And I have a lot of mood swings. Is there any other MTs going through this same thing? Any advice from anyone. THanks. I appreciate the help.
When I was pregnant
and my hubby would use ain't or another word that was used incorrectly, I would lovingly tell him that I was not going to allow him to talk to our children.
I was 18 when I got pregnant, unmarried, of course (sm)
and even though it sounds stupid to me now why I didn't use birth control, it's just because I didn't think it would happen to me. And just FYI, a baby doesn't have to suffer. My unplanned baby is almost 40 and is a great "kid". One of my greater accomplishments. No need to insult.
pregnant niece
I had a similar situation and my niece was 19 at the time. She was not sleeping around, was with 1 guy but not using OCP or anything else because it was her sexual relationship and she thought she "couldn't get pregnant." She had sex ed and was told better, but apparently she listened to her stupid friends instead of her teachers.
I'm a little more hardened than you - I would have told her that I was taking her advice and minding my own business.
I'm not opposed to abortion. I think it is much more of a sin to bring a child into the world when you cannot support s/he and do not love s/he unconditionally.
Your niece made a mistake, a big one, but she should not have to forfeit her chance at a life because of a sexual encounter. If she can't remember to take the pill, she needs to get a patch. But she should be using a barrier method of some kind to prevent STDs.
The fact that she is not responsible enough to use birth control should be a clue that she is not responsible enough to raise a child.
