I live in Georgia and I have never heard of this - I just work! nm

my take is that she worked inhouse, not at home, and now wants to find out how to work at home. nm

Does anyone live in Adairsville (Georgia?) sm
If so, if you bank with Crescent Bank or know anyone who works there or does... tell them thank you.  I'm a foster parent and the bank sponsored my foster child for the holidays and today I received a lot of gifts for her for Christmas... more than I ever dreamed she'd get.  The people did a great job of making sure that this Christmas is unlike the past ones... where in the past the parents would take any gifts and sell/return them for drug money.  This year she gets to keep her presents since the parents are no longer involved in her life.
Buffy, do you live in Georgia?

Anyone out there live in Habersham County, Georgia ? sm
If so I'd like to e-mail with you about the area as we're considering moving to that area.  Thanks!
Do you want to live in the home?
If you want to stay there, you would probably be eligible for what the govt is offering, as stated. You need to make some phone calls. BK 13 is also an option if you want to save your home, can modify loan and make those payments. My neighbor lived in her house for over a year before they forclosed. Everyone worked with her, agent, bank so she and her young child could relocate (her husband had just been arrested for a white collar crime and left her on her own).

Don't feel alone, people like you are everywhere

Consider calling in to the Dave Ramsey Show or Suze Orman. You have some options.

Everything is dated and to the hour: As in: 1/30/2009 at 12:01 AM, the property at ___ will be auctioned. BK 13 would put a stay in place, and freeze any action which would buy you time. But future income will determine everything.

I am sorry this is happening and I know the stress as I have been there before once myself and hope it never happens again but you know, it's possible.

Late charges and finance charges and interest and penalties are what beat down people in this boat. It makes no sense to punish people who don't have enough cash as it is at this time in history.
"I would rather be from a broken home than live in one"
Please get out of the situation you are in.  You are not doing yourself or your children any favors by staying with this man who has great potential for violence.  The best thing you can give your children is a healthy, happy mother.  You do not deserve to live under threats all your life.  Make plans and get out - you and your children will be grateful!
If he has a sudden bronchospasm at home, he may not LIVE during the trip to the ER. He needs to go.

Gotta find a good place to live. My kids play outside.

They know to come in when the street lights flicker on.

Strength in numbers though. I'd never let one of my kids go to the playground on the next street over by themselves, but my parents never let any of us wander off too far by ourselves either. It was always with a bunch of other kids.

Find a new home.
Plenty of companies out there with consistent work. :-)
I think I misstated it - the at home people live within an hour of the hospital - sm
this is what the hospital is absolutely positively trying to avoid - having people all over the country doing the job. If the equipment breaks, if there are meetings, etc. - these cannot be done with transcriptionists all of the country.
When people find out that I do MT at home,
they tell me that they would like to do MT so they can "work at home."  I refer them to MTEC web site, I believe that's the site, which has a "test" and questionnaire to see if they would like it or have the ability to do MT.  Always works.  A lot less questions to answer! LOL.
Okay home is where the heart is but if you live in trailer park next door to red neck grits
with a mullet and bleached blond hair who drink beer all day and let their kids run wild, your little trailer park heart filled home becomes a bit of a headache because of the neighbors who may not have the same ideals or morals/ethics you do and they are SO CLOSE you can't shut them out of your world. Cheap housing brings in cheap people and in trailer parks you pretty much get what you get neighbor-wise. So my heart may be in my little trailer but my neighbors are part of my homelife.
Displaced Editor trying to find a home

I am a good Editor trying to find a new work home.  The company I work for is downsizing and I am afraid I am next.  I would like to have a place where I can have benefits as I have children.

Does such a place exist anymore?

Thank you.

I hope you find a happy new home! nm

I find working at home a breeze
I can write off all things (including part of home space, part of electrical bill, all of phone and cable service and other things on the income tax, so there is where there is a break. I keep my electric bill down by using a small heater in the winter at my feet and have an overhead fan for the summer- should it get up to the 80s, then I might turn on the air for a while but my home so large I do not care to pay $$$ to air-conditing the entire home and just me here most of the time (hubs drives long distance). I sleep as late as I like (my work starts at noon), shower, dress and walk to the next room. What do you have to do at home that you find it so hard?? I work straight through, be it in the office or at home, not taking breaks and/or lunch so makes no difference either way for me.
Majority of the jobs seem to be in-house. Never could find an at-home job that way. nm

Just return the work, submit your bill, the scurry and find more work elsewhere. sm
They will never meet with you before next week. It is Thursday, already. Be prepared to sue for payment, because you will probably need to. But, most of all, find other work elsewhere, because I have a feeling this final payment will be a long time coming.
Has anyone breast fed while trying to work at home, can you do this and still work full time?
It seems like the more literature I read on the subject, the longer it seems to take, especially in the beginning when you are breast feeding every two hours, or does it really just depend on the baby?
I work live....

I don't have to download but three dictations, one after another, usually 1-3 minutes in length, and have had no problems with my dial-up on the platform I work on. It may take a minute for three files to download, but then when I upload the first file upon completion my next dictation is already there waiting for me to begin typing right away. While I am typing, then another dictation downloads.

I connect most consistently with 50.6 Kbps and it has worked well so far. However, I have never experienced/worked with high speed connection so I don't know what I am missing. :D

I actually prefer working on a platform as to downloading from an FTP site or via E-mail as it is actually more time consuming for me when I have done that in the past. :)

I certainly will be giving the ExpressCard a try as I will be given two weeks to decide to keep it or return it. I will also keep my ISP for awhile too just to see how this all works. :) My major concern is whether I get a good signal out here in the boonies. :D If Verizon doesn't work for me, then I will try Sprint when they start getting the ExpressCards in but Verizon will receive them first is my understanding.

Thanks so very much for your feedback. I sincerely appreciate it.

If you work for a national, what difference does it make where you live?
If you work locally, then yes I think it makes a difference. I work for a national, live in the boondocks and still do well.

How to research a supposed law in California saying I owe taxes for work there even though I live ou
My boss said that a law was passed in California (not a new law apparently, but a law that wasn't "enforced") saying that out of state employees that work for whatever in California have to pay California state taxes? I can see why this would make sense and why it wouldn't. However they just sent me the form, but are now saying they aren't really sure I do have to pay now, but fill it out anyway. Well I don't want money taken out that is mine! Any ideas how to research this with that little information? Thank you!

Can't find any work
I guess I need to start over as a newbie.  Can anyone tell me the companies that hire new MTs?  I have a lot of experience, but not acute care.  Maybe, with my experience, I can start at the ground level at one of these companies that does not require experience with acute care.  All the work at my company is gone, the docs editing their own reports now.
I don't get this. Why would somebody be obliged to find work SM
for other MTs because she has a good job?
"When they find out they have not work"?
And no question mark?

Wow...
Try to find an office you can work out of where other MTs can help you out!

I work 2nd not 3rd but I find taking a nap
just prior to start of shift makes a big difference is my staying power and alertness through the shift.  I usually take a 30-minute _power_ nap.  Yes, I keep the same schedule on my off days unless family members force me to get up early!  Then I just take a longer nap during the day!  My productivity has increased from 1100 lpd to 1800 to 2000 lpd since I switched shifts.  No one else on the systems helps a lot!
Do you find there is more work at those times
and less stressful because of a good workflow?
I think you need to find a different line of work.

Don't work for a national. Find a small
MTSO that pays well. They are out there, as long as you hold up your end of the bargin. I left my hospital job to work for a national, several nationals now but who is counting. I found a small company and finally am making the $$$.

Good luck to you.
Can't find work...should I start a business?
I am about to finish up my certification at a local college and have been extremely disappointed to find that it seems no one is going to hire me to work for a company because I don't have 2+ years experience....even though I've spent the last 2 years transcribing school work....I am trying to decide if I'd just be better off to take what I've learned and try to start my own business.  Financially, I am able to do it, but I'm just not sure how much of a headache it might be.  What should I do?  I kind of feel like I've wasted a lot of time and money.  I'm pretty confident that I can do the work, but how can you prove that to someone who just wants to know if you have experience?  I just don't know what to do.
How do you find a balance in this type of work...

with family, friends, hobbies, etc and still have time to type!  Is it possible, if so, how?

Been trying to find steady MT work for 8 months now, at least
At first, no one would even respond. A few months ago I decided to take ANYTHING from anyone who actually did respond.

I'm used to getting paid 10 cents a line for the past 12 years, but when I did get a bite from a company, I took it, even at 7 cents and 8 cents because at that point I was STARVING and worried about making my house payments and paying my utility bills!

Now do you know what the problem is? All three frickin companies have very little to NO WORK available. This is consistent.

Now, at 7 and 8 cents a line and barely squeezing out any work between three DIFFERENT companies (even though they KNOW I am available to do any and all work they have), I am just about as bad off as I was before finding these jobs.

I know nothing else and have no college education, BUT I do know my job backwards and forwards, research skills, terminology, pharmacology, anatomy and physiology and everything else that goes with being a good, experienced MT.

Do you think I am getting paid for this experience? No. Times are bad right now, but they've been bad for me for many, many months. I just don't know what I'm going to do anymore. I rue the day I went to school for this godawful so-called profession.

Every day wake up, raring to go, hopeful there will be SOME kind of work available, at least to make $80 or $100 a day, AT LEAST.

But every day I end up stressing out, worrying, continuously being broken down because even though I'm a hard worker and a darn good MT, I am treated like low-class scum by my creditors because all my bills are late & I can't pick up the phone anymore due to bill collectors on my back. Believe me, I paid all my bills on time every time when the work was abundant and I WANT to pay my bills, but good intentions don't pay the bills. Neither does little to no work at a lame 7 or 8 cents a line.

I also have little food in the fridge or pantry, and things are beginning to be shut off left and right.

I don't know...

It's just extremely frustrating and stressful. I can't live like this anymore but have no way out.
Does anyone do any other at-home work other than MT?
I need to get more work but don't want to go back to an office atmosphere.  Any ideas would be appreciated.
at-home work
Hi there, I do web design, all self-taught through many, many hours on the "free website" places on the net over the years and help from my geek/techie friends ;) My sites are basic but luckily that is what my clients want. I really can't to all the fancy flash stuff yet! It pays very well by the hour but unless you have lots of clients, it only works out to an extra $100-200 a month once the basic site is designed and up and running. (I have only two clients at this time and its basically maintenance and small changes here and there to the coding). Its fun and interesting but if you really want to get away from a computer, this isn't a good choice! All day medical typing then a couple more hours web design can be hard on the eyeballs after a while! Another suggestion, my DH works full time and has a cleaning business (cleaning offices) on the side but that only can be done when the business is closed so that means weekends or nights. Best of luck!!
at-home work
In case you see this post twice - another person asked this question as well so I will repost my reply here too :)

Thank you!. I am trying to help those who need to work from home, but cannot

due to financial constraints.  I am also doing research for other work at home programs that are legit.  If anyone has info they would like to share with me either MT related or not that I can use that would be awesome!  This is about 1 year out as I have a lot to get together with that and some things I am doing with  my house to get it "organized."

work from home!
click on my link below for an incredible oppotunity! Only $49 start-up cost!
Definitely work at home is the way to go.
I began working at home after I had my son. I got see his first everything. I get to wake him up in the mornings (the best time to get all the kisses) and I get to tuck him in every night. I get to go to all the school functions. I get to drop him off at school and pick him up. I get to be with him all during his summer breaks. I get to go to all the sporting events. He is now 8 years old and I can say with great pride, I got to watch my child grow.

I have gotten very frustrated with the company I work for, but it all truth - I wouldn't have missed this for the world!

If you have a chance to work from home and be with your child, I would say go for it and never look back. They grow so fast and being a mother is such a privilege - take advantage of your opportunity.
work at home.
Do you really want an answer to that question about working in your bedroom???LOLOLOLOL
Looking for work at home

Sorry to be a little confusing, but I am actually looking for work at home.  I know most home-based transcription companies (ie. cymed, spheris, medquist, accentus etc) are looking more of Radiology, OR, oncology, acute care experience but all I have right now is Pathology experience.  I've been transcribing surgical reports for 6 years now and would like to do this at home as well, just to pick up some extra $$$.

Thx to Carrie for your suggestion.  I appreciate it!  M.

work at home??
Is it possible to do this from home as well or is this something that you must do from a courtroom or lawyers office or other??
For those who work from home..

Do you ever feel like you get away from transcription when working from home full-time?  I work part-time at home, and it seems (especially on my Sunday shift) that I'm typing all day and half the night! Do you just completely shut down after a strict schedule and walk away from it?  Even when I quit, I'm there in my bedroom which is where I also have my computer armoire and I feel as if it is staring at me!  LOL...calling my name...pleading with me to come work. The co. I work for part time is always needing extra help and I feel so guilty just to lie around when I could be typing.  It may sound silly, but it is really getting to me!

work from home
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!!  That is THE MAIN REASON I am taking this course, and going to work from home so i can be home with my children.  I also homeschool them, and know that it will go so much more smoother with mom being home all the time.
