I usually figure what they are paying per person for dinner and then give that as a gift times the number of people in my family who are attending. I also think it depends on how well you know the person. A gift should be a personal decision. The bride and groom should have invited you b/c they want you there not b/c of the gift they are expecting from you.

I guess it all depends on what part of the country you live.
I could not live on $2000 a month. Our house payment is more than that, not including electric, cable, car, etc. One day we will retire down south!!
I live out in the country and
I initially could only have satellite out here in BFE. It cost me 60 bucks a month for mediocre service. It was faster than dial-up but still not very fast. You have to deal with the weather. I went through Hughesnet and they have a broadband fair access thing where they only give you x amount of broadband per 24 hours and if you exceed that, your internet is so slow you might as well be on dial up and that lasts for 24 hours until your account rejuvinates itself. It was such crap.
We recently got AT&T out here. We get local phone, unlimited long distance, and DSL internet including wireless throughout the house for like 65 bucks a month. Way faster than Hughes.net ever was even on a sun shiny day with no clouds in the sky.
We literally saved ourselves 50 bucks a month going through AT&T for our phone and internet services.
It depends on the country.
I worked for Club Med for a few years in the 80s and worked closely with the European-born French, Spanish/Mexican and Germans. The Spanish people are truly grateful when you merely attempt their language. The Germans are pretty helpful if you make a mistake but they all know English as it is required in school. The French, however, are very strict. I found this when I worked with the Club Med administration in the Caribbean, Mexico, and especially in Paris. I took four years of French in high school, know French diction pretty well, but was still corrected with Every mistake I made, and several times (in all countries) was told to not even try if I couldn't speak it perfectly. That is my experience, and I'm allowed my opinion as it has been proven in many countries. My point about the Indian MDs is that they were not trained here, or they would have been corrected in their use of some English. Some of it can also be legally misinterpreted. There was actually a "medical" school in St. Lucia in the Caribbean (next to Club Med). Many Americans attended it. They couldn't get into the mainland-based medical schools. It also used to be hard for foreign-trained doctors to practice here. My point was that it's a shame that we have to suffer with these doctors, not just us but those poor patients.
What part of the country do you live?
That is really very, very low. The hospitals in California pay $17 to $25 an hour.
it really depends on where in the country you are located
if you are in NYC or Long Island, the amount is never less than $100. Further north of NY can go about $50. If it's a close relative you go higher in $$.
I'm not sure of anywhere else.
I live in a quiet country neighborhood sm
but it is 6 a.m. and the birdies have started waking up. So loud!!
i live way out in the country of GA, dont have dialup but
was lucky to have ATT serve this area. You must be moving way out if you cant get cable internet or DSL!!! Good luck Hon!!!
We live in the country in the south - been using it for years with kids and pets - no worries or pro
.
CPL definitely depends on where you live
I live in Arkansas and the most you get here for locals is 10 cents if you are lucky. The rate here is usually between 7-10 cents and that is with printing, pickup and delivery. There are not many MTs around here but these docs here are tightwads.
depends on where you live
Why would u drive 50 minutes for a pt job though? Can't they email it to you?
Depends on where you live
Do you have to pick up and deliver? Print reports? There is time and $$ involved there.
If you receive files electronically and deliver electronically, then I would guess 13 cents per 65 character line is reasonable. More is always nice. Also depends on how badly you want the job.
Even if you pick up and deliver, depends on how many miles you have to drive, but still 13 seems like a nice mid range. You don't want to get piggy and ask 15 or cut yourself off and ask for 10 cpl....
It depends on the state. In NC where I live,
you must be legally separated for a year before you can get a divorce. The legal separation is treated like a divorce though, so anything accrued by either party after the separation papers are signed are not considered marital property. I think she may want to obtain a second opinion just to be on the safe side.
Depends on where you live I guess. sm
My cats have been outdoor cats all of their lives. One is 13 and the other is 10. Where we live, they sleep in the street. They're both neutered and up-to-date on shots. They don't wander too far from home anymore as they get older.
We moved here from a farm on a dead end road and I tried to make them stay indoors at first, but they wouldn't have any part of it.
Like I said, it depends.
Everyone in our tiny neighborhood knows them by name and dogs fear them. :)
(They're 15 lbs. each).
Guess it depends where you live. sm
Clerk didn't care if I would lose day(s) pay and also said I wouldn't get the $50 a day reimbursement as I was self-employed and had to pay myself.
No, I guess it depends on where you live (sm)
Like I said above, I have heard it used in a derogatory way many times. I am definitely not the prejudiced one. Anyone can look at the term "ebonics" and see where the root word comes from.
I guess it depends where you live...
Some employers require or "prefer" certification, but I don't know whether that earns you any extra money or not. Most do not require certification, at least where I live, and do not come out and offer extra pay to be certified or encourage you to be certified. My opinion is that it is a waste of your time and money.
I guess it depends where you live. Grocery
I don't know of anyone who shops at Walmart for groceries. Not one. No way I'd buy perishable stuff from Walmart. I was desperate one night a few years ago and bought milk at Walmart and BLECH! It wasn't past the expiration date but it tasted like it was nearing expiration and the coolers were lukewarm.
It depends on whether you are working for someone as an IC or you have your own clients. I live in
Hampton Roads and was told that I would need a one if I was going to solicit my own business. I was told by the local office where I got my license that I could not send out brochures or advertise in any way until I got it. I do know of a local company here that requires their ICs to have one as well. I think it is because he had a problem with an IC who did not report her income to the IRS and he was audited because of this. I am not sure how this protects him, but he requires all of his ICs to have their own business licenses.
Sorry, this absolutely depends on the county you live in. Going through
She was just told they won't even look at expunging her felony drug conviction until she has a clean record for 10 years. In the meantime, she has had to fess up in a couple of interviews and hope for compassion. She finally got a job she lives but she's always afraid what will happen if she loses it.
I agree! I'm from Florida at the opposite end of the country but
agree with you 100%. The officials pretty much decided the result of the game. And the touchdown before the half by Pittsburgh -- it sure looked like the ball came down behind the goal line and then was "placed" over the goal line by the QB. Seattle really got cheated in my opinion!
I agree with you, but big business runs this country now,
Depends where you live? Small town big city? sm
Hospital billing? Clinic billing?
It all depends on what state you live in and what their laws and requirements are. Check with your

I think it depends where you live. My parents threw a huge party sm
for me when I graduated with about 150 people. The gifts weren't in the $100 range but it was 23 years ago. I received over $5000 in gifts and that was used to help buy the things I needed to go away to college such as bed linens, dorm furnishings, etc. The rest was used over the 4 years to subsidize when I needed extra for something. Yes, my parents paid for college, to the tune of $25k per year. They were happy to do it and proud when I graduated with honors and got a good job afterwards.
I'm going to do the same for my 2 kids that my parents did for my sister and I. There is nothing wrong with working hard to give your kids the best in life and nothing wrong with celebrating their milestones. If you don't agree with graduation parties, don't go to them, but if you don't celebrate your kids' milestones and make them special occasions, who will?
i agree, it depends.

Also depends on what you get. I agree with poster below. sm
I was told (also 20+ years ago) that I needed to learn how to type. Hated it, hated it, hated it.
I expand everything whenever possible. I had a doc the other day that I just fly through and found I did over 300 lines in one hour. Unfortunately, he disappeared after that. :(
Then I got a huge file with a page flipping mumbling sigher who would do the finger drumming while looking stuff up and I did 85 lines with that report and it took me a half hour. Talk about minimum wage. :)
I guess I was one of the lucky ones as far as speed was concerned. That's just something that will come with time. As far as required work for typing class, I think I ranked somewhere below an "F".
I agree it depends on the co. and the platform
I worked for a guy who actually thought about doing that to his MTs, and I said "ARE YOU CRAZY???" It's not "business," it's insane to punish your employees for working smarter.
I agree. I only live 15 minutes away from the Wal*Mart here in FL where they were duking it out
at the store. I could see myself with my 6 y.o. and my elderly mother in the middle of that mayhem and people diving for laptops one on top of the other...no thanks! Got everything last year via mail in time for Xmas and never set foot in a store.
I agree, it depends on who you work for BUT also the account
and how long it has been on VR. If it has been on VR for a few years, piece of cake. If it is just starting out on VR - tedious work, low pay as it takes longer to edit than to just transcribe it.
I have been doing VR editing for 4 years now with an account that has been on it that long also...can make up to $50 an hour, and some times as low as $30 an hour when we add new dictators.
Hope this helps.
I agree depends on client. Typically
my accounts are verbatim and if I were to add temperature, etc. they would consider it padding. I can't even put an "A" in front of a number when starting a sentence and instead of typing out the number - say fifty-six I have to use 56.
Yep, I agree 100%. I live in such a rural area, though, that my neighbors, the natives, think I'm
NUTS cause I keep my dogs in the house, and actually still walk them on a leash in my yard. We all have about 2 - 5 acres minimum each of woods in our neighborhood, and no real dog laws at all! Dogs run at large 24/7, which is no picnic for me with my dogs on leash, either! And they ALL keep them outdoors, tied up with the chain and the smelly old dog house. I think they just look at dogs strictly as deterents? Not sure really, come to think of it! Cause even if they were getting robbed, Fido couldn't get off the 6 foot chain! Oh well! I used to be sad all the time for the plot of the dogs here, but I can't save them all! Only my guys!
Yes, 13.50 wouldn't rent you a studio apartment where I live. And agree

why no, i don't live in snobville. did you think you knew me? i live in heritage hills a suburb
it takes a little longer to get to work and shopping but thank god i have some privacy and am away from the congestion. lovely trees and lakes all around. maybe about 20 minutes to a large shopping mall. but no, i don't even know where snobville is.
why yes the quality of air where i live is quite different than where the city people live.
Lots of pollution. That's why everyone is moving away from the city and areas zoned for multiple housing units and low income housing and trailer parks. Population is dense and near manufacturing. So yes, the air is different but millions of people pay a little extra for the quality, the space and privacy afforded to those who move out of polluted crowded areas such as you defend. There is always a reason why some areas and housing is cheaper than others. Maybe it is the air and maybe it's something you can't quite put your finger on but you know you would prefer not to live in certain areas. You know what I mean or are you living in one of those areas? They tell after awhile you block out the sounds, the smells and get used to the pollution. I don't know. I didn't stay long enough to test the theory. My mental and physical health is way too important to me.
I know they live a long time, so if there is a chance they will out live you - sm
make sure you make provisions for them in your will. I have only had cockatiels and some finches, so don't really know anything about the bigger birds. I love African Grey's but they are very expensive.
Live and let live. Don't force your lifestyle on me.

I used to live in MN now I live in MS and they were both cold last night!
Will take MS cold over MN cold any day, and I don't miss the snow. I miss the Mall of America, though!
I live in PA, can I help? If they are close to where I live, I would go check them out for ya!
Where in PA is this company?
You must live where I live. I ran into the same sort of SM
situation when I was the president-elect of the local chapter and the VP-elect of the state chapter. I bailed out. There was no fighting it.
LOL! Don't live in NH. Live in ConnectiTAX. LOL NM

Can you live on 7.75 cpl or do you need 9.5 cpl. If I could live at the lower, that is what I

This country has....
more safety nets than almost anywhere else on earth. There are food stamps, WIC, food pantries, missions, churches, etc. I don't believe there are policies in place to purposely make sure children go to bed hungry. There MUST be some personal responsibility here. I don't hear much out of you along that line, just blame. CEOs, big corporations, blah blah blah
what right do we have to tell another country what to do?
x
What Country do you come from?
You don't sound like you come from the USA.
Isn't this the same country that
our young men gave their lives for back in the 60s and early 70s, in order to fight communism, and now is a communist country? These greedy companies would send work to a Taliban country if they thought they could save a buck! They are causing the downfall of the USA.
You have obviously never BEEN to a 3rd world country.
x
R we talking about the same country???
He's cut everything from education to welfare to finanal aid to.....and so on ad nauseum...read a paper now and then.
Most of the people in this country
Are way too dependent on the government to save them and are looking for a free handout. While I have sympathy for those whose homes have been destroyed, I agree that you should have some sort of a back-up plan of water, canned goods, etc., to prepare for an emergency. This is just common sense. We had really bad fires in Arizona this year and I was prepared and ready to leave if I had to and didn't wait around for somebody to come rescue me. People need to be more self reliant and not wait for somebody else to take care of them. The hurricane victims had plenty of time to stock up on canned goods, water, etc., before the hurricane hit. I have relatives in Florida and they had to evacuate, but they had planned ahead and had canned food and water ready for when they came back, as they knew there would be nothing available. I think Kennedy's quote of-- Ask not what your country can do for you-- would be very appropriate in this day and age when everybody stands around waiting for a free government handout. These people would never had made it as pioneers----.
Maybe someone else in another country is typing it?
Yes, the dumbing-down of our country.
the 5 freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment but can name all the characters of the Simpsons? We need to get off the couch, turn off the boob tube and read a book once in a while. I love my country, but we aren't doing ourselves any favors by being stupid.
Oh like she was fat! That's what's wrong with this country.
And I'm not an overweight angry person....just in case you want to bash. I am actually fit but I don't agree with the mentality about weight in this country. My niece is 15 and a little bit overweight so I'm sensitive to it. What are you, anorexic? Please!
