I agree - font has nothing to do with line count

I just changed font as well down to 11 font because they only have a typewriter and want to make corrections on reports I have printed and they do not have access to the reports (old doctor), but anyway, there is no change in line count. It just makes the font smaller.

I agree with splitting shifts to get more rest, etc. I just had a baby and my line count went down
for the first trimester, peaked for the second, then back down for the third. My only advice is PLAN for that drop in the third trimester by working when you can in the second, then if the drop doesn't happen, great, you're ahead of the game. I ended up on bedrest and in the hospital, so take care of yourself and I know it's hard, but hopefully the bills will not put too much pressure on you.

You need to watch your line count. I was working for them and got reports that had line count of 0 in them. They did not pay for templates, they would deduct the template even if it was not used and deleted. I notified them and said they could not change it.
So I asked to be put on another account and they refused. I quit.
I was also promised they would have an incentive plan going into place if you type a certain # of lines. Two years went by and nothing.
I was really disappointed in OSI.
They also offered to pay half on joint AAMT, which they failed to do.
I am glad I am no longer there.
Take the character count divded by 65 and that will give you your line count.

Font and line counts
Here's another question in this regard. A friend of mine always worked in-house and they were allowed to use Courier New 12. She is now working for a service where the font is Times New Roman 12. She finds that her line counts are half of what they were when using Courier New 12. Does this sound right? This service said that they were paying her for a 65-character line with spaces. I am wondering if they are really paying her without spaces. Maybe this is the difference in line count. Any ideas of why such a difference in line count?
not OP, but what is standard font for gross line that most are using? sm
how would you go about it if the acct suddenly decreased font size from 12 to 10, but expects to pay the same? to me it is kinda like a decrease in my pay!!!! well it is technically because i am doing the same amount of work for less money and i am not happy.
This is one place the font and line length absolutely
make a difference. If you have to use a small font and long line length, you will make the same or less than a 65 character count. Always check out the number of characters that can be put on the line with their defined margins. For example, 1 company uses 1 inch margin, but a tiny font, so the line length can actually be 104 characters, or almost double what the counted 65 character line is. Some have a "secret" formula for saying it will come out the same as a 65 character line, but that is a hoax, as well, as only part of the report is adjusted for that, not the entire report. The only gross line count on WP51 was the only good way for gross lines. Word has really changed that picture.
New England, 16.50/hr, 8 cents a line after minimum line count..
full benefits available with general contribution by the hospital before you start paying for them, retirement, 403b, all benefits, and working at home as an employee, BUT, you have to live local to the hospital.
Do y'all think the size of the font matters in line counts?
If your font is smaller takes more characters to make a line? I just wondered this today.
Yes, watch margins/font. Unlike 65 chars line, this
I was paid on gross line for years, and I found that it worked out to be about 2 cpl higher than 65 chars line. Thus, 8 cents per gross would equal to roughly 10 cents per 65 chars. However, as other poster stated, you have to make sure it's a 12-size font and 1-inch margins
Gross line was 7, not 8. Depending on font size and margins
7 cpl is about 8.5 cpl.
I've been seeing a lot on this board about fonts and font size affecting line counts and I was...
wondering how this is possible? I mean if your lines are based on a 65 character line then what difference does the font type or size make? I mean, a character is a character whether it's type in Arial, Times New Roman, or Courier.
I use MP Count to count my lines and I decided to do a little test. I typed a document and saved in Arial 10 and 12 font type and size, Times New Roman 10 and 12 font type and size, and Courier 10 and 12 font type and size. And then I ran a line report on each individual document counting lines by 65 characters per line strict (no spaces) and came up with 24 lines each time in each font type and size.
There was an MT below who was saying she types in Arial for her client, but bills them for Courier like it made a difference in the lines. Maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't see how it makes any difference at all.
I agree check with your facility. Enlarging the font size can cause problems once a report uploads
I wrote a macro that would take the font size back down to 100% once I was finished and ready to sign off. I think I assigned to something like CNTRL+ALT+F and I got into a habit of doing that before hitting whatever function keys to spell check and sign off. It worked great.

Line Count...
Does anyone know if the Word 2000 line counter is generally the same as what most MT companies go by? I'm trying to see how I do being paid by lines as opposed to report.
Line count. No way, no how, ever. nm
Nope!
Line Count
I have worked for SS for a few years and I DO NOT like the fact you cannot check individual line counts. I do not like having to trust someone to be in charge of my line count and I have no way of verifying it is correct. The line counts bounce all of the place. Try it yourself. I have a line count program and one day it is a couple of lines off and others over 10%. Not good and I can't believe they get away with this.
changes in DQS line count..sm
Apparently, now the ASR count is included in the "transcription" count. As of yesterday, I had to
look under "correction" to see ASR count and as of today, there is no "correction" listed. Hmmm.
line count
When they first started ASR it was under transcription, then they separated it, now put it back. Actually QC is a level higher than QA, at least that is how it has been explained to me, if QA can't fix it then it goes to QC
mq line count
Yes, I was surprised to see that suddenly happen on Sunday, I believe it was. Seems like explanations should be given to us before or at least shortly after making such a change. Maybe their lawyers suggested they do it this way? I have not yet had a pay cut for ASR.

DQS and line count
I have been frustrated with line count on DQS since I started on program well over a year ago, but have adjusted to it. It might not have been as disappointing/frustrating if they hadn't made such a big deal about how many MORE lines we would be able to do on this program....... even had "employee statements" to back it up. I have since decided they were just actors, like you see in those drug commercials, you know, "I am a doctor/nurse/medicine man", etc. ......... It DOES get better ........
MQ line count
YES - I work for a hospital that uses the DQS software from MQ. Our pay went down 40%. Nobody knew what was going on, until we discovered that they cheat their transcriptionists! QUIT THEM... I want to see them go totally under. They are horrible, horrible people!
Line count
Can anyone tell me what is good for a newbie to get for line count? I have a company that is going to pay 8-10 cents a line. Is that good? Please help!!!
line count
No its not a IC position, its a employee position, I have benefits and so on.
line count
It depends on how the company is counting the lines. Transcription companies are getting better as to what they can count and what they don't. Spaces after lines have entered can easily be taken away. As technology moves forward, so does the ability to be more accurate with counting.
line count, etc.
It has been my experience that companies get defensive and leery of hiring you if you ask much beyond the very basics. They have sort of a do you want the job or don't you attitude. I hate it too that we don't even get to find out what their software is like before we accept the job. I usually can tell IMMEDIATELY if I want to work for them after being on their software for 5 minutes. Waste of their time and mine if I don't.
Line count
I count gross lines using the Microsoft Word. It will count the blanks between lines but I count those also. Have used Syncount and liked it, a little different to get used to and you have to save your documents differently but it did fine. You can define it to count several ways. Guess there is a lot out there and you should get several answers.

LIne count
Okay, lets cut to the chase. The way our lines are counted has been RADICALLY changed. I've done this for 15 years and you get a feel for how many lines you are producing in a set amount of time or in the number of reports you generate. Everyone is denying it but the line count is NOT the same. But I'm sure the clients are still being charged the same. They also cut out our pay for headers and footers. So what to do? There is nothing we CAN do. These large companies are all about end results. If they have to hire armies of TYPISTS what do they care? They only have about a zillion QA people who can clean up the reports and make them look good. Lets pay the typists peanuts instead of paying our TRANSCRIPTIONISTS decent pay.
line count
I know I have seen this posted before, just cannot find it, is there a good line counter out there that is freeware? I have MPcount, but it does not count headers unless you upgrade from the freeware version. Thank you
Line count
Charge them for all the lines. If they have doubled their provider staff, they have to expect to pay more to have all the names on the template. That's only fair. If they had lost half of them, you would have cut the price, right?
line count
banging stapler, rummaging through chart, shaking paper clip cup while talking, looking up referenced doctors names, stumbling, starting over.
line count
Its been a while but from RAD menu, Transcription Statistics will do time frame by typist and Stats/comparitive will do line count, report or report type. That is if you have those menu options. Think that counts header too though.
line count
while you are in your document you wish counted, go up to *tools* on your toolbar. a drop down list will appear and *word count* should be there. click on that, and it will give you a character count. divide that by 65.
Line count
I have a question, I usually produce 1000-1300 lines working 6-6.5 hours a day. Would you say this is about average?
sad line count -sm
I am struggling to get a decent line count with the service I am with. I just chalked it up to being slow and probably spending more time surfing the web than I realized. Then recently I started with another service and my line count is great. What's up with that? I feel a bit foolish now for sticking it out so long with the first MT service. I don't think its anything malicious on their part but it does make me wonder. How do you know if you'll be able to get a decent line count with a company before you sign on with them? Thanks.
line count
is there a way to include the headers/footers on reports in the line count program free download here in MT?
line count
I have been making 11 cents a line for the past several years. I was very blessed to find it though. In my opinion, the smaller MTSO's pay so much better than nationals. Good luck to you!
better line count
I am only a year into MT and have been wondering something for a while. Do most MT's relisten to the dictation to edit it once they are very familiar with the dictators? I have been tracking my errors when editing and have almost none and I thought how much that would improve my line count if I did not have to relisten to every one. I'm thinking about cutting that back to just the difficult dictators. The QA people are happy with my work. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
Need help with line count and pay....sm
I don't know how to figure this out so...which is better- .085 per line at 55 characters without spaces or .08 per line at 65 characters with spaces?
Thanks
Line count
Use the free program called MP count. It even creates an invoice for you.
They can set the line count any way they like. SM
I have worked for some with that program and they had it set not to count spaces and not to count headers.
Other places I have worked they had it set differently.
When a company buys the Dictaphone system they are trained to set it up to count lines, spaces, characters, etc.

What exactly does 500 lines per day equal out to (how many hours per day, reports, etc)? I have worked for one clinic and I get paid a nice monthly salary.

I am looking for requirement information. Hospital employee required to do 1100 an eight hour day in Word-based Program. Can anyone tell me any other requirements out there. How much an hour or an 8-hour day?
Line Count
I have worked in Meditech for Rad / Pathology / and Medical Records. I have helped write transcription specifics for Meditech........
As far as the line count in Meditech, it has no reason to it really. However, it does count higher than any other programs I have compared it to. I am sure I knew at one time how the line count was programmed, but it has been 27 years since I knew that information. Now, I just type and take the line count it gives. If you are paid through Meditech line count, count yourself lucky. I do.
As far as initials, yes if someone edits your report, as long as they do not go and manually change your initials to theirs after editing a report (and this does happen when they want to print the report, some transcriptionists do not know to leave the identifer alone and just print under the typist ID instead of changing to theirs) they will get credit for the report. We use to require the report be given back to the original Transcriptionist . IF that was not possible, the second transcription would document to the Supervisor the report data, job #, patient, etc. and there would be an adjustment made to the line count at PPE. The lines would be split. OR, the supervisor would make the changes, additions, corrections to the report, and the original trans would get the credit.
Maybe this will help a little.
Need help re using line count
I recently took a job where you do your line count in Word. I am supposed to count with spaces, which is really easy, and then I divide that by 65, but if you are also supposed to count headers, footers, how do you do that. When I put a checkmark in the box to count headers and footers, the count is no different than if I didn't check it. I must be missing a step. Help! Thanks.
Line count
Not good line rate and no incentive, VR and straight, made almost 60 in the 80s, almost retired, don’t really give a rats behind anymore.
