 I'm sorry but in my opinion you have the worst job I have ever heard of. This explains the constant need for more help. Obviously, they've worked the other slaves to death.

My DH was on-call for 5 years; for a week every 3 weeks; but he was compensated for that...extra $400 a paycheck just to be on-call; whether or not he was paged, and if he had to to into work then it was extra on top of that, a very sweet deal. You can bet your behind that your MTSO is getting very well paid for the on-call STAT service. My DH absoluted hated those weeks and could not sleep the weeks he was on-call. I think in the 5 years he did it though he was only beeped maybe 5 times, and went in maybe 2. But it sounds like they are greatly taking advantage of you. If they refuse to take you off, and you still want to keep your job, then work out a deal like my DH had. He shared it with 3 other guys (until 1 dropped out) and they made up a schedule and alternated on a weekly basis; that way not one person got shafted continously. I hope it gets better for you.

I know docs need to remain available but give us a break! When it rings, please either turn it off or turn off the dictation machine and tend to your call. I dont need their ------g phone blasting high volume in my ear, often while some inconsiderate jerk is trying to dictate over the loud ringing. I had one clown the other day who actually left his cell ringing the entire 5 to 6 minutes during his dictation. I felt almost deaf by the time he finished. 
Anybody know how to turn off the ringer on a Dictaphone C-Phone??? TIA nm

Now, granted, my first response today was a bit testy, but I was not calling names in the other topic and I wanted to make that particular point clear. :)
Everyone has to make their own moral and ethical decisions in life, and just because someone makes a different decision than mine does not mean they're an evil person or deserve to be insulted, called names, aspersions cast on their character, etc. It does NOT necessarily mean that I'm going to remain silent and reserve my opinion on the issue, though.
Decisions with an element of risk are made every day, and most of them turn out fine. I'm not comfortable with drinking on the job and would not employ anyone I discovered doing it, but if someone else is, then that's their choice and may they never regret it.

The way to figure is how many lines an hour do you do. There are 13 lines characters in a line (65 line length)
So say you TRY to average 4 pages an hour say 34 lines a page equal 139 lines, times your line rate.
139 X 4 cents a line = $5.56 an hour
and what if you don't do 4 pages even less.
MTing hourly hourly output is not very predictablel, so ya never know and predict what you can put out each hour.
THE WAY TO TURN THE INDUSTRY AROUND IS TO SPEAK UP, SAY 'NO' THAT IS TOO LOW AND GIVE SHORT EXAMPLE.
If the MTs continue to accept, that is what the going rate will continue to be. Yes, Yes, it will. Just keep looking. Email for general lowest to highest line rate prior to testing and resume, just say it saves time on both sides and it DOES. Why waste time. Soon, the message will get out there.

That's the one I was leaning towards . . . I was hoping to learn that it did not interfere with typing. While wearing the glove it is much easier to type on my AlphaGrip, but I am still not speedy enough to use it full-time. I'm getting there though.
I kick myself when I think how I caused my own hand/wrist/arm injury. Trying to resolve my back pain, I rushed into using my inherited recliner, where I had to "reach" to reach the keyboard . . . my arm will never be the same.
I am in the recliner again now  , but I'm spending a buttload of dough to make it happen.

I never said I loved the dialect or any of it, but it IS PART OF THE JOB that doesn't make me a candidate to go live in another country. I don't care how old you are or how young you are, you are the kind of person with the attitude that makes every other MT that you work with miserable. I have worked with the likes of your kind and its why I chose to work at home for 25 of my 30+ years in this business. The complaining, back-biting etc of people like you make life miserable for every other person around them.

"Have no clue" is an understatement!!! Not being nasty here -- just stating a fact. I know an MTSO who says when she tries to call physician's offices and gets the manager and explains that she is calling requesting to speak with the person in charge about doing their transcription for them, most often the answer she gets is "What's transcription?" She swears they hire personnel based on a certain part of their anatomy and it's not the brain.
Then, if she's lucky enough to get through to the physician in charge, he is not willing to pay a decent fee. She has apologized to me for not paying me more but told me that on some accounts they are only making 1/4 of a cent after expenses (including MT pay). She said they have to bid low to get the work. She hates marketing now.
It is NOT Monday, darn it!!!!
But it's going to be one of those days! I had a doctor give the date of service as 4-8-05, and now I have one of the very worst ESLs ever dictating a colonoscopy, and he says the throat was sprayed with Xylocaine! Think these guys have been hitting the eggnog a bit early?

Suppose you worked in a department store, or as a receptionist, or even at McDonalds. You were given a specific shift, specific hours... you don't have the option of doing your work at your convenience. For argument's sake, say they gave you a 8-4 or 9-5 shift. Suppose there were very little, if any, customers in the department store or the McDonald's in the morning and you were told you had to work after 4 or 5 to make up for this, or suppose again there were greeters at your receptionist job, or no drivers at your job as a tolltaker and you're likewise told you had to work extra hours beyond your shift, or a policeman and had made no arrests in the a.m. and you had to work after your shift until you did to make up for the slack. Get my meaning? IN WHAT OTHER JOB (I DEFY ANYONE TO NAME JUST ONE, BESIDES HOME MT.... COULD THE EMPLOYER DEMAND THIS? Just name me 1!

and I'm having trouble breaking 2000. It seems like it would be faster just to transcribe.

I had a lot of trouble with static in my C-phone. I replaced the phone cord and that made a big
difference. Also, have you tried a different headset? Also someone told me one time that there is a microphone under your volume control on the right corner of the C-phone. It's a tiny hole. If you break off a Q-tip and stick that into the hole that will squelch a lot of background noise and that worked as well. As far as getting your C-phone service, I heard that Dictaphone is "sunsetting" C-phones at the end of this year. Meaning, they aren't going to service them anymore as they are considered an obsolete technology. So, I would contact Dictaphone and see what your options are.
I know very little about Lanier equipment. I've not used it as extensively as Dictaphone. Is there a local appliance repair place in your area? You might ask one of those places to take a look at your equipment and see what they think. Kinda scary, cause they could do more harm than good, but maybe worth a shot.
Not much help, I know. But I thought I would share what tiny bit of obscure knowledge I do have.

No, I don't tip them. If I thought they weren't getting paid hourly, then I might. I might tip someone who gave extra great service, like coming home and carrying them in the house for me, (j/k!) but most places where you are expected to tip, people just expect the tip and take it for granted anymore and don't always treat you well enough to deserve one!

Okay, for some reason, the first quote at the front of qldc does not show up, but in the line autocorrect.entries.add name:=qldc" there needs to be a quote mark around each side of "qldc", not just at the end.

I am not sure about you problem, because it sounds just like I have mine hooked up. The only thing I can think of is that mine has 2 line hookups in the back of the phone. If you have this too, I would just try the other one, which you probably have already done. Sorry that was not much help. I wish you luck
I have a very loud hum when using my C-phone, but no hum when I'm using the regular phone. SM
Anyone else experience this problem with their C-phone? Is there a problem with my C-phone? At first I thought it was my telelphone line and called the phone company. They sent a technician out to replace the lines and check the house, but the hum is still there on the C-phone.

We only have one phone line. I rarely get/make calls and when I do we have cell phones. I just started working with a C-phone and got digital phone. I can go a month and my phone not ring, so far have gotten 3 calls today, but I'm afraid that if I try to answer the phone that I will lose my report.
I guess I could pull up a report and have my husband call on his C-phone and test it that way and then if I lose it no biggie.
