I've thought about it

In Reply to: Positives and Negatives of working at home versus inhouse. - Just another MT
After having the taxes done, I was so disappointed. I made really good money, but after the deductions and then figuring the hours I worked, it wasn't so great after all. I'm tired of working weekends and holidays. I'm tired of the nightmare I go through every time I take a day or two off to get caught up.
I would think the benefits alone would be worth returning inhouse ... if you get them. Sick Leave. Vacation Leave. Retirement. Insurance. No more self-employment tax.
And no matter how hard I emphasize that I am not to be disturbed when working in my home office, there is always the interruption for "just five seconds." I'm tired of the lack of respect for my career and my working hours.
I say, "GO FOR IT." Good luck!

I've thought about it---
It's just that I know people in the Whitehall-Twin Bridges area-- they have all been keeping their eyes and ears open for me. Also, I love the mountains. Eastern MT is a lot more flat, hotter in summer and colder in winter. I did like Miles City when I was there for the Bucking Horse Sale a few years ago. We'll see---.
i've thought
-- if i didn't have to work at home -- that it would be "gravy" to do the dictating for a physician -- at least we'd know how to pronounce things correctly and what things are important to the MT on the other end. Don't know how lucrative it would be tho...
yes, I've thought of that ....
but it is a union position and their hands are tied, as per HR. My boss would give me more $$ if she could. Our sister hospital is NOT in the union and that MT makes $4 an HOUR more than me! Aagghh!!
Well, as for me, I've always thought sm
intense heed is very important, don't you?
LOL. Wow, you've thought about that one a lot, haven't you?
It's good to have a plan, I agree. I'd like to set up an SEP retirement account for myself because I know social security won't be there for me.
No, I'm just really tired of job hunting. My perfect job would be parttime with regular steady hours. I don't care if I'm SE or IC. It's not about only wanting to work when I want to. I know that the company needs coverage. However, I'd like to be able to take a day off when I'm sick instead of being told, "No, we need this work done. Nobody can do it except for you." I could even make up my hours, but IC seems to mean you're not allowed to get sick or anything. It just seems like you sell your soul to the devil just for the "luxury" of working at home. I'm so extremely tired from everyone demanding from me all the time. I pitch in all the time when they're out of TAT or someone else is absent, but I'm not allowed to have needs of my own. The more you give of yourself, the more everyone wants. I feel as if there's nothing left inside of me.
I've thought about it, but am usually too burned out ..(s/m)
.. at the end of the day to want to do more transcribing. But that may be a good way to get my feet wet... maybe filling in as a part time IC for someone who is on sick leave or vacation, so it would only be temporary.
Thanks for your thoughts!
I've always thought the difficult dictators should be
weighted at the very least to compensate the MT at a higher rate for their effort. I think the cherrypickers, if they are not going to be stopped, should at least get lower pay for their reports.
Of course, if you paid 2 cents more for Dr. ESL's work then you'd have to set a limit to how many blanks could be accepted period or the cherrypickers would do them and leave nothing BUT blanks to get the money.
It would have been better for them to have never tried the "send back to pool" block than to let the complainers overrule and win. Sad.
Do you have a bachelor's degree? I've thought about
but the lack of a bachelor's degree is really the main weeding-out tool/stumbling block for me, darn it. I didn't realize it was such a major requirement for this type of job too ... as far as http://www.fdch.com goes, anyway. I thought maybe not having experience in court reporting/CAT machine transcription would be the breaker, actually.
Interesting, but.... (sigh)
I've always thought that podiatrists are trying to trump themselves up into something
s
Great idea...I've often thought of doing some...
thing similar. After all, AAMT was started by individuals with an idea. Unfortunately the original, most likely that *good* idea has been long lost.
So, form a new organization. Set up testing. Issue a credential. Actually represent the American MT. What a concept.
Don't understand why not. I thought I've seen other posts similar to this before. I'm not t
cause any problems, but as I work for DSG, so I'm naturally curious. As I said, I liked working with them both. Is it a secret?
I've thought about sitting in the camper or locking myself in the bedroom before,
but those wouldn't work either. I've been trying to take a nap all weekend due to lack of sleep and a nasty cold, but every five minutes, someone's pounding on the locked bedroom door and whining for Mooooommm!!!! Cripes, sometimes I can't even use the bathroom or take a shower without five or six interruptions. As much as I love them, my entire family has been driving me apestuff this past week. My office is currently in the living room with the phone, TV, video game system, stereo, front door, and most of the household foot traffic running through. That's going to change soon when we turn the old dining room into a private office with soundproof walls and a locking door.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I've seen quite a few names, first and last, of people
mgmt on this board in the past, in similar situations, which is why I felt I could post this question. I certainly don't think I was not being tactful to the people I asked about, as I complimented them and enjoyed working with them. I wouldn't mind my name being on this board if someone said something nice about me.
I've thought of doing it too! Anyone remember the ROS School of Transcription? The lady that SM
started that school was an MT working out of her home. She ran the school out of her home too! It was a distance learning program. She contracted with CMT Transcirption Service to let her students type some of their accounts. CMT in turn employed a mentor who would basically train the students, check their work, and give them feedback. Once they graduated the program, CMT usually hired most of them if they had enough work.
I know because I used to be an IC for CMT as a Mentor/Editor. Pretty good job at the time except once everyone got trained, there was very little left for me to edit. That's when I started thinking "hey, maybe I should start my own school!"
Now with ROS defunct, I was thinking about again. There really is a need for a good school created by MTs and run by MTs where the sudents are mentored by real MTs. But that's just me, I'm always full of big ideas, but can never really figure out how to make it happen, ya know?
I use EXText with my current job and I've used at a couple of other jobs I've had. I've ne
used DocQscribe, but I have used Meditech, Cerner, Vianeta, the Precyse platform (I can't remember the name), Dolbey, and Lanier platform I think was called Cequence (?).
Out of all the different platforms I have typed on, I have liked EXText the best. In my opinion, it's very user friendly, easy to learn, and I really like ESP which is the built in abbreviation expander. Plus it is very easy to create your own normals which I love. My fingers literally never leave the keyboard because there are macro keys for everything. You can use your mouse if you prefer or learn the function macros. I love it. I think I'm more productive on EXText than with any other platform.
I've thought about coding. My DH does medical coding and I think with an MT's medical termino
background and anatomy and physiology knowledge, a transition into coding wouldn't be hard at all. From what I can tell by looking through my husband's books, an MT would have to learn insurance regulations and legalities. We've basically got all the medical background down or we should be if we're worth our salt as an MT.
I even contacted AHIMA and found that the qualifications for taking the CCS or CCP coding exams are completion of the a coding program, RHIT program, or RHIA or related work experience. Transcription is part of HIM, albeit the red-headed stepchild of the HIM department, but a part nonetheless and so satisfies the qualification of having work experience.
The test is tough though. My husband didn't pass it his first time out and I think I read something like only 20% or so pass it the first time. So it would probably be best to take some sort of formal coding class, in my opinion.
Spell as best you can or blank them and keep going. I've passed many tests when I've left blan

As you can already see, you've come to the wrong board! By using the word professional, you've
excluded about 99% of the population of "whatever" it is that hangs on these boards. Certainly not professional for sure! But you sure are doing a good thing for someone! Its the thought that counts. Sorry you met the dregs right at the start.
HELP! I've turned my screen sideways, I can't straighten it up. I know I've seen sm
this before, but I can't remember what it is. Do you realize how hard it is to read sideways? TIA.
I've lost track of how many people who've asked about it to NOT
.
I've always verified every line I've typed (I have my ways) -sm
If you're supposed to be paid a certain $/line, that's what you should be getting no matter how they do billing unless of course it's specified in YOUR contract with THEM.
BTW, I've never caught a company cheating me ever.
I've used it. It's the worst piece of crap I've ever seen.
seriously. I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy, or their Vianeta program. Awful, just awful.
Wait until you've been there six months and if you've improved
quality and quantity, I'd say go ahead and ask. Otherwise I'd say annually... good luck
I've seen the same every place I've done acute care, and
pointing out dangerous or repeated errors (often in normals for goodness sakes!) never got the result I expected. When I would press the issue, supervisors said if the dictators didn't complain, then the mistakes must not matter!
It didn't matter if the MT changed what had been a cardiac med in the beginning of the report to an antifungal by the end - I kid you NOT! One poor girl used facial for fascial and fascial for facial!
I've used a few expanders, and of those I've used, all must be "coded" to get things lik
One thing I do to get around this, is to create a macro and then link the ShortHand command to the macro. It works for me, but I do the same five clients every day and only have about 20 or 30 macros/Shorthand commands that work like this. This may not work well for you if you have lots of formats and hundreds of docs.
I've been doing this doc for many years, so I've learned how to function with him. sm
I can tell what's a stutter, what's another word, what's just an "uh." Years of experience will get you through a lot.
Wouldn't want to do his charts all day, of course, but a few per day aren't bad. I haven't had to send his to review in a long time, but they do take a little longer to shuffle through.
I've worn contacts for 30 years. I've had both
hard and soft. My vision is much better with the soft ones than they were with the hard ones. When I first started trying contacts soft ones were still new and they couldn't get me to 20/20, so I went to hard. Hard were okay until my eyes started changing shape and then I could no longer wear hard ones. The soft should give you better vision as they conform more to the shape of your eye.
I've been a bully; I've been bullied.
I used to sell a lot on eBay. There are some people who buy high-priced items and play games with you. I've had to call them repeatedly, report them to different agencies. It's not fun. You put time and money into the business of selling, and there are people out there who live to manipulate the system and cause trouble.
And, I've been bullied by buyers who made unreasonable demands, insist that they pay by check when you clearly state you don't accept them. It's not fun, and is one of the reasons I don't sell anymore. People!
I've also bought from some sellers who I would not deal with again because of their unprofessional attitude.
But, overall, ebay can be a great place to be.
I've become the man I've always wanted to marry.
I live alone, am 46, never married, no kids, just dogs horses and chickens and just got done building a new house out in the boonies away from the rat race. (Used to live in Manhattan) Couldn't be happier. Selfish maybe, but never out of time, never stressed, and I don't take anything out on others. There's something to be said for being alone but not lonely. I'm not looking for a man to "make me complete." They only sap me of my time, energy and money (how little of it there is with MQ). I consider myself lucky getting to choose my time with friends, and not just stuck with a deadbeat partner. Ladies especially: Be strong and allow yourself to be independent. Any old man will not make you stronger!
You know I've done the grilling...I've tried it all...
And I find the best way to cook steak is in a good quality thick-bottom nonstick pan on top of the stove. I found this trick on the internet. I heat the pan on high and when nice and hot, throw on the steak, no butter and no oil. It browns almost immediately, cooks fairly quickly, and seals in the juices - tender, moist and delicious!!!! It doesn't even need seasoning but salt and pepper before cooking. ;)
I've not only typed, them, I've had a few, myself! LOL
.
I thought so. Thanks.:)

I thought so too
Ya know, I thought so too but I think it is because his hair cut and facial makeup and eye brows are so severe..If he grew a longer beard, some side burns and longer hair, I dont think it would look that bad..However, he looks like my ex..sigh..My ex was a Latino as Dave Navarro is and has the same face..When I first saw Dave Navarro..I said to everyone, My gosh, he looks like John and they agreed..Carmen (dont know if I like her or not) and Dave sure make a good looking couple, though.
I thought it was just me! Thank God I'm

well, one would have thought it sure
would have gotten some press, for sure. But on the other hand, the story doesn't have the same 'newsworthy' features (from the press standpoint), ie, hope for a happy outcome, being a school-sponsored trip, a top student with the full scholarship waiting, the mystery of higher-ups possibly helping to hide the facts, etc etc.
Its a very very tragic thing, to have a child go missing and especially with the horrible outcome you mentioned.
If the news reported (which they can't) EVERYTHING that went on, we'd probably be afraid to wake up in the morning.
I thought of that too.
I thought about the brown recluse and I think that is why I was nervous and there are so many bites at one time. We have huge spiders here. I hope it isn't a recluse. The symptoms are similar. One scar looks pretty bad. I will watch it. Thanks for responding.:)
YES< YES, I thought it was just me!
That's what I thought...or at least that is what
the signed contract states.
Thank you for clearing that up.
Happens to me, too, but I always thought it was
when supe was pushing jobs into individual que's to improve TAT, since it is always at the end of a job that it happens -- just before another job will download to me.
Yes, it does happen. Not equipment problem, but possibly could be a connection problem -- slow connection causing this, too ????
Here is a thought..
Find MTs in your area that work at home with kids...maybe doing a kid swapping thing would help everyone. Create a MT Mommy group LOL.
I thought I won...
Thought of something else!
Do you e-mail or send in mail, or both? I have always gotten my MT jobs by e-mail.
There are so many hurdles, especially equipment requirements. It seems you have everything right on track, you just need your break!
Another thing I thought of; do you look at other MT websites with job boards? I go to other MT websites when there's nothing new at my favorite one.
Good luck, and keep us posted!
I had thought of this also
In fact, there was just a few hours ago there was a press conference on the news. The Dept of Health and Human Services was giving a briefing and said that many medical volunteers are needed, including nurses, physicians, EMTs, etc. He said on the HHS website there was a link for volunteers to register where they ask questions as to your capabilities, etc. I had wondered if MTs would be needed when I was watching this. I do not remember the specific website, but I'm sure it can be found by Googling the Dept of Health and Human Services. God Bless you for volunteering.
That's what I thought.
That's what I wanted to do, was mark it so they at least would see it, but nooooooo....they just leg it go!!! And these nationals wonder why they lose accounts!
Thanks! I never even thought much about it until...
JK mentioned it.
I second that thought!

I thought so
you are working for Frankie Boy or are you Frankie Boy.
Where is Chucky zipper or is Chucky Frankie Boy too?
I thought of that too.

Thanks for the thought...nm

I have thought about this, too.
I love Oprah - and I find myself running back and forth between commercials. I have been thinking of putting a small tv in my office. What do you all think?
Have yo thought about
applying for a clerical job in your local hospital or a doctor's office? Good luck to you!
