I needed/wanted a job that I could do - sm
at home. I had been doing some website consulting but that was drying up and I wanted to work and make us some extra cash. I needed a very flexible job/work schedule as I had two kids and one was in speech therapy with 2 appts a week at Children's Hospital. No job in the regular world would allow me to just take 4 hours off every Tuesday and Thursday so I could take my kid to therapy, unless is was PT and I did not work those days, not worth it and we did not want the kids in daycare. A friend's sister did MT so got the low-down from her, etc., did an at-home course, passed, got a part-time job 6 weeks later, that was 7.5 years ago and have not looked back. It works well for me, kids keep me hopping with all their activities and I am still able to earn a fair amount working from home but have the freedom of doing things with the kids at school, during the summer, etc., though I do pay the price in late hours when I do that, it is worth it to me.
I didn't say I wanted to leave my job.

People who wanted to leave were bussed out, but you have to understand
that every year we hear the same thing, this is gonna be THE storm of the year, so it falls on deaf ears. I used to live in the New Orleans area and went to LSU in Baton Rouge. You can't blame the Mayor because so many people stayed. The majority of the people there, stayed of their own accord because they didn't think it was going to be as bad as it was.
However, the mayor should NOT have allowed the people staying in the Hyatt to be put to the front of the line over the people that had been in the Superdome for days waiting to be bussed out. He'll suffer mayhem over that move.
I got mine on Ebay because I needed Windows XP on it and NOT Vista. They wanted to charge me almost
it with Windows XP. So I saved money and did Ebay.

MQ SPEECH RECOGNITION INFO WANTED
Hi,
Can someone who works for MQ and is on speech recognition give the rest of us some info as to what it is like, what the pay is, and whether or not a person would want to do it? It would be helpful info to have in case our office called and asked us if we wanted to be on that or not. I don't know if they have various speech recognition platforms, but I am on DQS and high speed internet.

I live alone, am 46, never married, no kids, just dogs horses and chickens and just got done building a new house out in the boonies away from the rat race. (Used to live in Manhattan) Couldn't be happier. Selfish maybe, but never out of time, never stressed, and I don't take anything out on others. There's something to be said for being alone but not lonely. I'm not looking for a man to "make me complete." They only sap me of my time, energy and money (how little of it there is with MQ). I consider myself lucky getting to choose my time with friends, and not just stuck with a deadbeat partner. Ladies especially: Be strong and allow yourself to be independent. Any old man will not make you stronger!
I agree it is a scam to get your info. I too got one that said they needed to update my account -sm
info. Since I have never ordered or sold on ebay I knew it had to be a scam. I also forwarded it to Ebay at spoof.com. I believe I got another one with a few days and I emailed them back and told them to leave me alone as I knew they were a scam because I don't deal with Ebay. So far I have not received anything else from anyone posing as Ebay. Good Luck. Too bad people can't making a living the old fashioned way - earn it honestly!!!

I have a 750.00 chair and I have pain from it. Its one of those Temperpedic types. You would think for that amount of money it would be wonderful, but it isn't. Of course, it is better than the uncomfortable cheaper chairs I was using. My dream is to find the perfect chair - haha.
You should never leave a company until you've had
a chance to try out the new company for this very reason. I know lots of MTs that work for 2 to 3 companies because none of the companies has enough work.

I've made a decision to leave MT...
And to pursue my RN degree...I've had quite enough of being treated as a 2nd class worker...enough!!! I'm tired of paying for xxxx doctor's mistakes. I'm tired of being "talked" to by "supervisors and QA" who know even less than I do. And basically, I'm tired of making squat for wages while I work my fingers to the bone...
So, anyone done this transition before? I'm sure there are some out there who have and have been quite successful at it. If so, I'd love some words of encouragement. Unfortunately, I'm stuck doing this junk until I'm done with school, which will probably be a few years... ...but hey, I've done it this long, what's a few more, huh?
I've worked for companies that needed people
specifically to do certain reports. I have been hired to exclusively do ERs and discharge summaries before. It wasn't cherry picking either. They needed someone to catch up their backlog and keep the reports within TAT permanently. Evidently, other people were cherry picking and bypassing these report types because they're not as good of money makers as Ops or H&Ps.

Now it's like zip, zero, nothing. No responses whatsoever from my emails to the companies here and on mtjobs.com.
At first I was looking for specifics regarding hospital work, clinic work, days, hours, etc., and choosing those but later got desperate and even with 16 years experience have been applying for 7-cent-a-line clinic jobs.... STILL no response from ANYONE! Well, actually, I get responses but they are automated emails stating I've passed the test(s) and will be contacted in X amount of days/weeks/months. Then I never hear back even with a followup email. In the past, I could get a new job within a week or two.
I don't know. I was thinking maybe they're thinking that with 16 years experience it would be easier to go with someone with less experience (for whatever reasons), so I'm considering just putting down 5 years or so as my experience instead of the truth. Could be they don't want to deal with this old dinosaur and want new blood, I don't know.

Need info or true ULD companies. I've
not paid attention to past posts because I never thought I'd need it. Have chance for a position, but need ULD - like now. I'm on the east coast. I have DSL and my ISP is Earthlink. They have something called truvoice where it looks like I can get true ULD, but because I have DSL I still have to maintain my land line. Not sure if I could use DSL, phone, and tru voice all at the same time.

I use EXText with my current job and I've used at a couple of other jobs I've had. I've ne
used DocQscribe, but I have used Meditech, Cerner, Vianeta, the Precyse platform (I can't remember the name), Dolbey, and Lanier platform I think was called Cequence (?).
Out of all the different platforms I have typed on, I have liked EXText the best. In my opinion, it's very user friendly, easy to learn, and I really like ESP which is the built in abbreviation expander. Plus it is very easy to create your own normals which I love. My fingers literally never leave the keyboard because there are macro keys for everything. You can use your mouse if you prefer or learn the function macros. I love it. I think I'm more productive on EXText than with any other platform.

protected by HIPAA, as we all know. I saw that ad too and was surprised to see it. Any identifying info is considered Protected Health Information, including diagnoses, tests, etc. This MTSO should have known better than to ask for that.

If you're supposed to be paid a certain $/line, that's what you should be getting no matter how they do billing unless of course it's specified in YOUR contract with THEM.

I wound up going for computer programming. Hated that. Loved typing and computers but hated the programming end of it, so went into accounting. Me....who flunked math in school, but it challenged me and I was good but not enough typing for me. Then did typing for a book company...got bored. Now I'm an MT. What a life!

It is a blessing to have this site to go to where there are others who truly understand the pain/abuse we take/put up with. Only another MT could possibly understand what it is like at times.
I also wanted to add this ...
Many may actually know the terminology but make mistakes in their transcription or typos. Still, it is incorrect and it cannot be accepted.
Hearing correctly is one thing; transcribing it correctly to the document is another.
I think many errors happen on the transcription phase, not the hearing/understanding phase.

yea... i NEVER did whatever I wanted
and as an IC i had every right to, but I stuck to my 24 hour TAT for seven years unless I was sick... i NEVER did vacations, I Never took time off... EVER. Now i'm kicking myself for it since after 7 years they have betrayed me.

I wanted to add that I do work someplace else also because I don't believe in this industry you can put all your eggs in one basket but I do think Transcend is a nice place to work overall.

 that I welcome corrections from QA's who make corrections that are legitimate, a mis-spelling, wrong term, wrong word, that sort of thing. I actually look forward to feedback when I get a particularly tough dictator and had to send it in with blanks so I can see if the QA was able to make sense of it so I will have a better chance of getting it next time. I appreciate your help in making me a better MT. The QA's that I have a problem with are the one's that send my stuff back with "corrections" that are not really corrections, things that would not impact the document in the least. It is silly, anal, and just makes everyone's job harder. I just wanted to put that out there because it sounds like from the posts that there are a few good QA's out there that just want to do their job and help us get better as opposed to nit-picking every little, tiny, miniscule thing they can find. I also especially appreciate the QA's that just give the feedback or explain why the feedback-not the ones with attitude and arrogance and nasty remarks. Those are the people that need to change jobs, because they are not helping anyone.

in reports where we know darn well it's wrong but that's what they dictate. Sic means "just as" and is used where the writer/typist knows something is incorrect or unusual but that was the way it was presented (in our case, the dictator). That way the reader of the reports would know it wasn't our error but the dictator's. However, I have never seen where this is allowed in MT.
