Even with a salary you're kind of a small business owner!
Even if you're paid a salary you are your own agent, so to speak. Why not hire a part-time helper and pay them a subcontractor rate. That's what a service owner does. You are no hero for not getting some help. MTs who have their own accounts have responsibility for 7 days a week coverage, but not all of us type 7 days a week. Put an ad in the job seekers board and pay someone to take up the overflow. You will burn out and not be able to work at all eventually. Good luck to you.
who are you anyway. Why doesn't the NEW OWNER of the board respond? That is my question.
At least I keep using my same initials of ss. You and others donot even do that, so the few of us who are on this board do not know who we are even talking to.
FROM THE OWNER OF THE COMPANY
This came from an email from Andy, the owner, last December to the employees:
"Whether we think offshore labor is right or wrong, it has become a fact we cannot escape from. OSi will not actively pursue offshore labor contracts, but we have made the decision to experiment with using some offshore labor to save this large OSi client from going elsewhere. We believe this is the best decision for our employees assigned to this account and the company because this account is growing and we can assign the offshore part to the future increases and not have to reassign any OSi MTs. OSi is committed to continue using US MTs for the majority of their work and we will continue to resist going offshore."
He is talking about Ochsner, and I was told that they STILL offshore to them and also to Sarasota and Mayo.
The problem is that they LIED AND DENIED AND LIED AND DENIED this for years. They got caught when the then-QA manager, SD, mistakenly forwarded an email from the Indian company to the company employees. Of course, she was demoted, so they hired NP to replace her. However, FA pitched a hissy and threatened to go on strike because she was overlooked, so they kissed her a$$ and moved NP to another position. Not surprisingly, that department has gone straight to the toilet, and almost everyone has either quit or gotten fired, in addition to the mass exodus of employees since this came to light, because she is incompetent, inexperienced, and daffy as hell and is the most irresponsible, nonproductive person in a management position.
Be careful. If you are not in THE circle and kiss a$$, you are so dispensable that it is not even funny.
Any company that repeatedly lies about offshoring, promotes incapacitated people on power trips, and sends the work offshore in the first place, is ruthless and cannot be trusted.
Look elsewhere. It will only get worse!
The owner of the company said this.... AND
on her site boasts about how she has 13 years experience and those working for her have superior quality, meet deadlines, and desire continued learning...
You would think since she wants such superior quality work, she would be willing to pay for it. Undoubtedly this is a 6-7 cpl company...
Yep, she no doubt gets superior quality there or newbies who will take anything and never expect more money.
I left another company because the owner sent out
an email to people she felt confident would defend the company on another website against flames (and my name was on her list) asking us to keep up with the screen names of the people who had negative attitudes. The purpose was to give this list to the recruiter who would then black ball the hiring of these people or get rid of the ones who were already employees.. After reading this agreement, I get the feeling they want something similar. One thing I learned a long time ago is that you cannot control what other people feel, say, think or do.
I turned notice the same day.
off on a tangent huh company owner?

Spoken from the true heart of a company owner (inside)
we read all kinds of things on this site. Most of it terrible things that are done to us. Companies making gross amounts of money over our backs and to spend it buying other companies for gross amounts of money. This company knew what they were doing long before they did it, don't tell me or anyone they didn't. They never even considered this woman let alone knew she was having surgery. You guys don't think that way. You don't see our faces and feel whatever you do to make a profit justifies the means. I am not a religious person but I do know what goes around comes around. Chew that.
As far as "preparing ourselves," how do you do that when pay is low, you have to work umteen hours for a halfway decent line count, and then get let go at Christmas time?
As far as short-sightedness? What is astounding is you would even say such a thing as you are probably sitting by a Christmas tree done done by Neiman Marcus. It is hard to save any money with what is happening to the transcriptionists today.
Do not answer this with attacking me. I don't answer trivial, cruel people.
Our small town Wal-Mart doesn't do that.
There is a person at the door in case the buzzer is activated but I have never been asked to show a receipt unless the buzzer has gone off.
Mine doesn't either, and they are not small town, any of them. nm

You just keep your eyes open all the time. Keep looking. You will find them. Opportunity comes knocking at the strangest time if you just keep looking.
small company would not pay.

Again, DON'T go with a for sale by owner agent. Buy Owner is the same thing.

It is a medium-small company...
but isn't hiring at this time. MTs tend to stay as they are treated with respect as well as paid well. The pay is based on a 65-character line with spaces, an 11-word line or gross line, depending on the account.
Oh no... This is a small local company. nm
nm
Small company in Ohio did that to me.
Had Indians working on something called Expresive. Wanted to pay me by the hour to put all my normals up on her FTP for the other MTs, then I got all the difficult OPs, asked to QA for 2 cpl, then stopped giving me acute care work & switched me to Rehab on a cumbersome Meditech program.
I'll bet it was the same small company that
nearly did me in as well. Do they come at you for compound modifiers? Yikes! I felt the same way - just could not do anything right, decades of experience. I finally got thru the constant QA barrage, and now am glad I did. But I know the feeling. I left the job down the road, part time and just too many rules so that it messed up my other jobs!! I would get its the same small company - they have very high QA standards, which is great on one hand, but...I also knew that some of it was a tad ridiculous! I would be sick while working, and that is NOT good!
No, I work for a small company in AR
Do you work for a national and, if so, do you like it?
Just a very small private company. nm

I make more than that as an employee for a small company ---
Maybe it is time to change to that?
look for a small local company in your area
I worked for a small company and although I did get paid by the line, I made way more than $16 an hour and could pretty much name my own hours to work. I did, however, have to pick up tapes!
I work for a small local company.
It seems that the smaller MTSOs pay better than the nationals. Maybe that would be a good avenue for you to try. I just think the low rates offered by the nationals are insulting.
Yes, small company wanted to charge me
$50. a month for 5 or 6 months to cover cost of software licensing fees. I would have taken the job if not for that major glitch.

I'm lead transcrip for small ofc, in the field since 88, and I've found (sm)
that depending on the person, it can take up to a year. You either have to be very smart and very driven to make it shorter, or you would have to have some exposure to the systems/docs etc. It takes a longer time if you are also new to the field of MT. But after about a year, if you don't find yourself relaxing when you are at work, talk to somebody. That's long enough, and you should be finding a niche for yourself by then.
I've been with so many companies, large and small, I can't count anymore. nm

Unlimited Long Distance + C-phone, small company needs MT
I currently need an experienced MT (at least three years - actual medical typing) to cover a 2 doctor account. Very simple dictation - SOAP note format. This account is looking for another doctor, so that could add in. Currently, very small amount of dictation - approximately 800-1300 lines total per week. 24 hour turn around.
If you have a c-phone and have unlimited long distance, please send me your resume + 2 references for people you have actually typed for. Start rate 8cpl (65 character). This is an IC position.
I am the owner of a small transcription company in Virginia - have had stable accounts and great MT's for over 13 years. THANK YOU!!!
We've put rabbit or other small fencing around them, added dirt, and used them as planters. Takes

I've been in this situation and it doesn't
get any better. we were a large facility (3 hospitals total) but since the transcription dept was considered an "overhead" dept they watched every move you made. people who worked on campus (only about 15 out of 50) had to bring their own pens/paper/ref material and anything you might need to get your job done. it would really hit the fan if you ate lunch somewhere other than your desk and bathroom breaks were frowned upon. each year the bennies got worse but got more expensive and then they finally redid the pay scale and that's when the good people started quiting. we had a joke for a base pay but when you met a certain line count there was incentive so what they did to cut costs was to double the minimum line count needed to reach incentive and then cut the pay of each incentive bracket so the slackers were still bringing home the same amount of money because they never got incentive to begin with and the producers got a huge pay cut. this was after, of course, they started outsourcing about 75% of our work and leaving all of the impossible docs for us and we had to fight to get the very minimum just to make line counts.....needless to say, the good ones left. they would print out productivity reports on everyone (about 50 mt) twice a day and if they felt you weren't doing what they thought you should be the would lock you out of the system so you couldn't work. you see, if you quit they don't have to pay unemployment but if they fire you because you're job is outsourced or cut back, then they have to pay unemployment so the more they can micromanage and get under your skin and push your buttons, the more it saves on the bottom line. there's no such thing as caring about the patient's when money is involved.
My first job was a total cold call to small local company...got hired over the phone- sm
give it a shot. Look in your yellow pages or on-line white and yellow pages and see what you can come up with. MT Daily has a list by state of MT companies to with their contact info. Also test your butt off anywhere and everywhere on line, you will learn a lot during the process. I found it quite enlightening when I was doing it 3+ years ago. Good luck.
I've tried comcast as well...doesn't work!
I've got one, but the cyst itself doesn't hurt -
the osteoarthritis underneath it in my wrist is what hurts. In years past, I could simply give it a rest and wrap it with a compressive wrap, like an Ace bandage, for a while, and it would go away. But now I think I'm stuck with it, as I think the arthritis underneath it has caused to reappear. My dad wanted to hit it with a book when I was in my 20's, but I wouldn't let him! Went to a doc, and he said I could:
a) Leave it alone, or
b) Hit it with a book.
I chose 'a' !!!

Overloaded with work - MY company doesn't offshore, so no problem for me
Our cable company doesn't offer phone service yet, and anyway,
I don't know if I'd want everything dependent on their service for all my needs. Even my internet is not as dependable as it should be, yet there is nothing wrong according to them. I already pay for internet and TV to the tune of $147 a month and they are raising it in Jan. again.
Collision or comp doesn't matter. I called my insurance company
when I was hit by someone. I only had liability but their adjuster made sure I got the best deal out of it. My rates didn't go up either.
My company doesn't offer health insurance. I'll buy it at Sam's Store.
BTW, you can eat yourself up and waste a lot of time hating and smearing Walmart. People support the store and it is growing in spite of your MT Stars posts. Walmart shoppers don't care about your posts or if Walmart doesn't offer health insurance to their employees. They are looking for a bargain. Walmart has them. At least half the US workers have lost health insurance and as for my company, it costs at least $200 a month for health insurance if I want to BUY it. Get a grip.
I've never heard of a company having to pay
when they got out of TAT. In the contract it states that TAT time is, and if consistently out of TAT is a negotiable point for renewal/cancellation of the contract, but no financial penalty to the company for not meeting it. My company is out of TAT 80% of the time and rarely offer a bonus to work extra, though does occasionally offer bonus, more often just asks everyone to work 2 more hours.
Try #*11. That's the code I've used with every company. sm
That was # * 11, pound, star, 11 just in case you couldn't see it.
Good luck!

No, and I've been with the company 3 years. sm
If you're having problems e-mail me and maybe I can make some suggestions.
You should never leave a company until you've had
a chance to try out the new company for this very reason. I know lots of MTs that work for 2 to 3 companies because none of the companies has enough work.
I've been seriously thinking about it. I actually like my company this year.
However, I have no money because work is slow and my kids and bills come first. I've been thinking about baking cookies and candies to mail. The people I would like to give the gift to work at home anyway, so sending it to corporate HQ wouldn't accomplish gifting those I want to thank. I can't afford to send individual gifts to each of them. Plus, a little part of me considers buying things for your supervisor to be brown-nosing.
Maybe your company wants it that way? I've used it for years and Never had it check

A small national is a national company that is smaller
than a big national. There are a few "big" nationals, where they have hundreds, if not thousands of employees. I work for what I call a small national, only has about 30 employees. An MTSO could also be considered a small national.
