I've interviewed Indian MT's. Most have two master's. Most Indians have two master's

In Reply to: good post but MTs there do not have 2 Masters - they have a BUSINESS DEGREE...sm

it is part of their government's specific plan of action for positioning India to be at the forefront of the global economy.

Master's in psychology.
Is it just me, or do the posters who are claiming to have master's degrees in psychology seem to be the ones who are completely confused, angry, and irrational? It seems that they are the ones most in need of psychoanalysis. Heaven help anyone who actually who actually tries to get help from these nut jobs! By the way, I assume nut job is politically incorrect, but I don't don't give a flying...
I don't know that you necessarily HAVE to have a master's. sm
I had never heard of the existence of such a major the first time I went to college 15 years ago or I would have gone for it then, but I have since come across schools that offer it as a bachelor's degree. The prgoram I'm in is an online degree program from a university in another state than I live.
I don't have a straight answer for you on what the demand is for someone with this training. A lot of jobs ask for broad qualifications...like, "a degree in English, communications, or related field," so I figure that's me, LOL. It's probably something where you have to have an idea of WHAT you want to do and then find a way to get there, rather than to wait for an opening to appear.
Go into your master volume on your computer....
make sure in playback control that your wave playback is not muted and the volume is up there.

Hope this helps!
Not what I'm watching. Only has been is that stupid Master P
and he's just an idiot.
Master Bedroom--one day will have my own space though - sm
probably in 5 or so years....going to move and build on some property we have 12 miles from where we are now....so it with either be an extra bedroom or "the study" downstairs. My husband will be happier as he has trouble falling to sleep when I am working (noisy/hard keyboard).
Master Gardener Program
I am considering enrolling in a Master Gardener program.  Does anyone have any experience with this?  I would love to hear from you if you do or know anyone who does.  Thanks!
Working on Master's in counseling and sm
I have had a hiatus of nearly 3 years. I could not decide if this is where I really wanted to go. Recently, I put myself back in therapy with my last therapist after a 5-year hiatus to help me decide. Two sessions and I can see the clear path back to it and yes, this is my "true calling."

I feel pushed to get out of MT because my hands are suffering after 15 years of this. I have 3 autoimmune disorders too. I am having energy problems and focus problems...pain and all that comes with AIs. I have trouble with consistently good line counts and I am working 2 jobs out of sheer boredom with the entire thing. It has nothing to do with no making as much money or ASR or any of it. It is my body telling me to move along. I also believe I would be happier as a counselor.
I am working towards my master's and I don't transcribe any longer.

What do you need a Master's Degree in to be a science writer?
?
I am starting back in my Master's program in the fall sm

I don't have to work too long of hours to get my $3200 a month, the problem is that ONE THIRD of it goes for taxes and insurance (ins portion is a big old $130 a month of that 1/3).

I can't sit still most days, although I do all right money wise.  I am knowing that this is a dying career choice and what I am going into is not.  It is not medical either, which is just fine.  I have had careers as a banker, a child care provider, a dressmaker and now an MT.  All very different and so, I feel like I can go and be a mental health professional and like it.  I have so many people who come to me with their problems, it isn't even funny.  Even my last therapist has started coming to me for things. Honestly, if this is the case I should be getting paid for my time. I need to go and get some more initials behind my name.  I only have a BA there now, and this will be MS...

Does anyone know why the wave volume control on my master volume controls... SM

on my PC would turn itself all the way down?  It's driving me nuts!  It's like it resets itself to the low possible setting and when I go to work, I'm turning my speakers up full blast trying to hear and when I check my volume controls on my PC, the wave setting is turned all the way down.  I turn it back and everything is loud and clear and I have to turn my speakers back down and then I'll do something the internet and BOOM it resets itself!

I feel bad because I've been accusing my kids of messing with the controls and they have been swearing they didn't do it and I haven't exactly believed them, but it has happened twice to me this evening while I'm working and I know no one else has touched my PC but me.

So you've interviewed MOST of them?....LOL

Saw a program on CNN or one of those stations, and it was a call center in India filled with hundreds of well-dressed professional-looking MTs and they said:  *average age 27 with a business degree* compared to "average age 49 in the US with no degree"....

Seeing hundreds, and it was a 2005/2006 show, - I believe that show.  You may have interviewed a few dozen Indian MTs IF YOU are in the US but not MOST Indian MTs.  *S*

Have a nice day!

I'm not happy with my current position, but I've interviewed
tested and me offered positions with at least 12 other companies and none of them have anything better to offer, all less money, all set schedules, etc.  Read the job boards and see what is out there and if you want to test the waters take on a PT IC position - of you can test and interview with multiple companies without making a committment.
Yes, I've seen many pictures of all those Indians and their
nm
have you interviewed them?
I always have a ton of questions, and talk with the recruiter at great length about what I am looking for and what they are offering. That might help hone it down.
I interviewed with them and turned them down

but can't remember all the details.  I think they offered 10 cpl for IC and 11 cpl for lines over 12,000 per pay period.   You have to "punch the clock" , which I just won't do.  Sorry I don't remember other details.

I interviewed for a job today

Most of it went well.  They pay the same cpl as most the other companies I have looked into.  They pay for headers if you have to type them in yourself, which is better than what I got elsewhere.  The scary part is that all they pay for is the training phone call and then straight production, they really don't give you time to lean the account to build up speed and make money.  I asked the interviewer if the account they were putting me on was busy all the time.   She said yes.  I asked her if it was saturated with ESLs.  She said, "it is out of Texas, What do you think?"

Those were the only 2 red flags I saw was the straight production after the 2-hour phone call and I might be stuck on an account that is saturated with ESLs. I did like the fact though that I will be using eScription instead of ExText.  I never used eScription before, I have always used ExText so I am excited about learning something new.   I do need health insurance and theirs was pretty inexpensive.  I am not sure what to think.  Am I going to be in over my head?

I applied to 2 more places and have not heard from any of them yet.  I did hear from one Friday and they said I needed to fill out another application.  I filled one out online and they e-mailed me to fill out another one.
I don't know anything about transolutions, interviewed, tested, and
offered position with Cymed.  The pay is average, lots of ESL, offered 0.5 cpl more if I do more than 1800 lines a day, which I do occasionally, but not often enough that I would have a bunch of extra $$ each pay period.   The person I interviewed with was an HR person and hadn't the first clue about transcription, so her answers weren't very good to questions.  I did specifically ask if the offshore and she reluctantly said they do.  I know they offshore to the Phillipines and probably India, and they are support of the move to offshore to Trinidad.   I was offered 8 cpl and have 20 years' acute care experience.  I was told there were lots or opportunities to earn big $$ in bonus money, but I'm not looking to be chained to my chair another 4 hours a day.   My main decision for declining the position was the offshoring.

I interviewed for an in-house pathology MT - sm
position a few years ago. What they did was a transcription typing test, so I had actual dictation and of course they timed me. I did okay there I think without any errors I was aware of but speed wise I tend to type a lot slower when being tested as I just freak at typing tests. Then they interviewed me, and I feel so dumbb at interviews, 2 people at once, totally dumbb questions for the most part with nothing to do with transcription. I thought I did well but did not get called back. They gave me a full tour of the facilities, etc, the MT office, the lab, etc. Let me "interview" the MTs there too. It was quite interesting.
well, I interviewed for an in-house job Monday
She said by today, Friday, she would let me know if I got the job.  She told me I was high on the list of being hired, but she was still interviewing.  It is already nearly noon and I have not heard a word.  I looked at the job board and the ad for an MT is gone.  Is that bad news for me?
Lord forgive me for saying this, but at the start of this, they interviewed her roommates on CNN, I
think. Maybe Fox. At any rate, the girls were rather "smug" about it all, said that Natalee was quite taken with this Dutch kid and had basically "dumped" her friends the last 2 days to hang all over this guy.  When they were asked what was "so special" about him, they said that Natalee was quite flattered that he was paying attention to her, as he was considered the "#1 Catch On the Island"...So, that certainly explains why her friends weren't "covering her back". She had ditched them more or less to be with Romeo.  Happened to me a lot in the "old bar hopping days" with my girlfriends.  One would hook up with some total stranger, and just dump the rest of us "singles" for the night.  Luckily, they all lived, though we did have a scary encounter now and again, this being in Southern Florida.
Interviewed last week, 1200 lpd, low pay, lots of restrictions. I said no. nm

I read the story and they interviewed people who work in the
Luis Vuitton store. They said they had 3-4 of the debit cards used just that day. Other high end stores were reporting they were being used in there as well. One guy on tv was interviewed and said he was unemployed yet he was going to buy a car. That means he'll probably have no insurance, probably no license. Every single taxpayer is paying for these unemployed, young "disabled" people with a bunch of kids who have chronic back pain or <insert whatever disorder here> to go shopping and not for needed things like food and diapers.
I interviewed to work in a pharmacy ... haven't heard yet, but -- sm
the company will send their pharmacy clerks to classes and pay for pharmacy tech certification, even though it is not required in New York state. Waiting to hear back from them this week.
Indians
you understand each other because you care to, there is the difference. Have a nice day!
LOL-they are probably all Indians.

Indians
The company I work for sends all of the easiest work from each account to the foreign freaks --- leaving the hardest work for the American transcriptionists, who are expected to still maintain greater than 98% accuracy, and the American transcriptionists who were sending too much to QA were fired!!!!
not just Indians
One company now is going to train Vietnamese, another Chinese (just what we need, a communist country with our information).  I frankly would trust the Indians more than any of them, including the Filippinos.  The Indians have been our allies for years and years.  The Filippinos are dreadful to work with.  The company I work for only uses them and they are absolutely horrible with errors that could kill somebody. As a QA we try to teach them how to do it right and all we get back are incredibly rude emails from them.  They even say they don't have time to spellcheck, nor will they, and their QA only opens the files and sends them on.  At the risk of losing the accounts, my company tells us now not to anger them, we need them.  They used to get points deducted for mistakes, now they don't, but the domestics sure do.  It's like we are THEIR employees.  They are the worst MTs and the nastiest people I've ever dealt with.  I would any day rather work with Indians.  They were polite, respectful, always answered emails, always made attempts to do better.  The others are cocky and could care less what we think or what we need.  Needless to say, I'm trying desperately to find another job.  I don't work for offshores, nor will I.  This company now is just pushing through the files without QA because they don't want to hire even though we keep telling them the files are horrible and they could come back on the company legally, but it's all in the money.  Less QA = more money.  I would NEVER go to a hospital or clinic my company does the transcription for, NEVER.
Indians by far!!!

We have been taken over by the Indians!
PROOF POSITIVE.   I am outta here.
East Indians
Tell me about their arrogance! The apartment house I live in is loaded with them. They are dirty, they are loud and arrogant. It's terrible.
Can still do that and not help the Indians earn our money.

That's why AHDI just LOVES them Indians!
.
Enjoy your 15 cpl until the Indians underbid you at 3-4 cpl...

THE POST IS NOT ABOUT INDIANS BUT ABOUT AMERICAN COMPANIES
that want to send their work overseas and train them to transcribe it. I want to know why the moderators feel it is okay to post jobs from spheris and healthscribe and others that were mentioned in the article when they undoubtedly hire us in the US until they can train more transcriptionists overseas and then leave us high and dry.
Yuck !!! Will take Pakistanis and Indians over Asians any day.... nm

Weren't the Indians given a reduced rate to get CMT?
p
To me they are harder than Indians, Spanish or anything else. Strange.
nm
I get it. They are paying the indians 1 or 2 cents a line,
which isn't much to us but it is to them, and then they just pay QA people a few cents more a line to edit the crap that comes back (probably no worse than correcting some ASR) and there ya go. $$$$$
Focus is run by a bunch of Indians who don't know what they're doing.

Not many. A lot of Indians use Canada as a crutch to gain US business and
for processing.  You'd probably do better at MTGab since it is a Canadian MT site.
better or worse than the Indians saying womting, wenous insufficiency...
Cannot stand hearing the *w* unstead of the *v*!
They recently got rid of all their Canadian MTs, guess to make room for more Indians. nm

I use EXText with my current job and I've used at a couple of other jobs I've had. I've ne

used DocQscribe, but I have used Meditech, Cerner, Vianeta, the Precyse platform (I can't remember the name), Dolbey, and  Lanier platform I think was called Cequence (?).

Out of all the different platforms I have typed on, I have liked EXText the best.  In my opinion, it's very user friendly, easy to learn, and I really like ESP which is the built in abbreviation expander.  Plus it is very easy to create your own normals which I love.  My fingers literally never leave the keyboard because there are macro keys for everything.  You can use your mouse if you prefer or learn the function macros.  I love it.  I think I'm more productive on EXText than with any other platform.

Indian?
What does him being indian have to do with anything?
Indian MT
I don't believe you for 1 second. Indian work is NOT SUPERIOR to what is done here. A few of them are doctors, but most are not. They get the medical terminology, but their American English is horrific. Very few of the Indians who do MT trained over here or in Europe. They completed medical school here in India, which is a very abbreviated compared to US or Europe training.

The Indians are enticing American companies to invest and train MTs over there, working at next to nothing, so that when they have captured a significant percentage of the market, they will jack up their rates and the hospitals and clinics here will have to pay because they have driven out all the US MTs by not paying us living wages or giving us decent paid time off, benefits, etc.

People like you are cutting your own throats in the long run.

I am an excellent MT, QA 100% for 15 years, never miss work unless there is a death in the family. My income has gone down steadily over the past 3 years because of the greed of MTSOs. I am leaving this job shortly. I look forward to the day when you bleed to death from the Indian MTSO who will put you out of business.
Indian pay
I am not privy to a lot of info about this, but I can tell you my experience. When I lost my contracted work to a couple of small hospitals that went with India, the  administrator told me they went with India because they were doing away with lines. India took 6 of my last invoices and averaged the pay and gave the hospital 2/3rds off!! Mind you, I was only charging them 11.5 cents per line!! She then told me that the offshore company would pay their Indian transcriptionists $2.00 an hour.
Indian......
I am an Indian MT working from home and I read your post. Indian MTs are not bad, they are best. The only thing you need to do is get to a real good one rather than just these newbies who just want to make some quick money and do not have enough experience. Get in touch with some experienced one and you will them superior when compared to other MTs. I myself have been working for 8 years now and i know what it takes to be an MT to prdduce a good accuracy consistently.
