as a foster parent. Here's some suggestions for you:
- Don't negotiate a kid's negative behavior like that counselor recommended all of the time - make negotiating a rarity instead of the actual standard rule. YOU are the parent and in charge, not the child. If you negotiate then they'll always think that life is a big negotiation pool.
- Be consistent. Set up the house rules and consequences/rewards and even write them out for the child. For example, set up a sticker chart and every day the child brushes his teeth without being told twice to do so he gets a sticker, and when he gets "x" stickers accumulated he gets a small prize. In my house we have what is called a grab bag, which contains items that I got at the dollar store. The grab bag is a dark laundry bag and the child cannot see in there - they have to reach in there and grab a prize out. On the other hand - anytime the child misbehaves, i.e. does something to make the younger sibling cry on purpose, they lose a sticker. Kids his age usually do well with having to obtain around 10 stickers to get rewarded.
- Talk with the teacher about what is going on and ask them to try techniques to help build his self-esteem. Oftentimes they'll do things like this by asking your child if they'd like to be the team captain for a game. A lot of schools have school counselors available for free, so if this is available ask the school counselor to also spend time with him.
- Socialize your child as much as possible with other kids. Sports are great for this and allows them to burn off energy. Playgrounds are superb as well.
- I also love the John Rosemond stuff - he's great on getting kids negative behaviors turned around.
- Most importantly make sure your child knows you love him. Spend a few minutes each day snuggling/loving on him or at least trying to. There will be days he'll be refractory to this but other days he'll appreciate it.
- Never speak negative about his biological father to him or when he can hear you. Kids don't understand when they have a parent that is bad and things like this often cause them to misbehave more. I've had kids come to me whose parents were horrible parents/people yet the child still loves them.
- Don't forget to take time out for yourself. Enjoy that bubble bath!

I didn't take an MT course but had lots of experience. sm
I had a a lot of inhouse (limited) experience. Then I started with a very small company locally with varied specialties part time and then added on a national part time about 1.5 years ago. It still wasn't easy even with 17 years of experience. The testing was awful and I was actually surprised that I passed it.
I had a lot of help and guidance from the small company that I'm still with after 2 years. Great boss.
I'm sorry too. Please have faith. You have lots of experience.

I've taken on lots of odd jobs, even nonMT ones, to pay debts.
I've waitressed for friends with bar/restaurants through the holidays, but not this year. I've been trying to find a weekend MT job or 2 hours per day, but no luck. I've sold stuff on Ebay, too. Do you have a significant other? How many hours are you working versus your SO? Being a Mom is a fulltime job, too.
Lately, I've been doing the ebay thing in the morning before everyone gets up, working my regular shift, then doing my extra job in the evenings and weekends. I definitely feel stressed. It's not enough money quickly enough. Everyone else is fighting for work, too. The house is not as clean as I'd like it. I have to run to the post office and box things up every day, and that's not great money either. The kids are acting up because they always do this time of year and they want more attention. It's all depressing.
I've been doing lots of dental notes. Not boring at all
when you think about the ease and money you can make cuz they always say the same things. I'd take it.
I've typed LOTS of reports on trampoline injuries
Some of them VERY severe, including head injuries when the person bounced off the trampoline and landed on his/her head.
ANYTHING can be dangerous if you aren't careful. Way back in the disco era, I typed a report on a guy who had fractures of ALL FIVE metatarsals - from dancing!!

Same experience here. I've had
MTs/CMTs apply who completely failed the testing, and become very, very nasty when I sent them the test results. I loved finding ANYONE who could ace testing, and if they were a CMT that was just fine. But having a CMT in no way demonstrated that they could transcribe reports better than anyone else.
I rejoiced as much the day my CMT expired as I did the day I received the "you passed!" letter in the mail.

Yes, I think I do know what you mean. Especially since I am familiar with the account, I know what the format is and where the same ASR mistakes are made and go through and fix them while playing the audio. It's like I can read, listen, look ahead and fix all at the same time.
It is faster than typing in general; however, to keep my hourly rate up I really have to stay at it and get in the "zone," without getting up much. After a while I feel kind of stressed out. I think I have traded one kind of tired for another.

300 lph, and nearly went bankrupt when I worked for a company for 7 cpl. I didn't stay there long!
My advice is to keep your day job until you can find something better after you have learned lots, lots more.
Newbie MTs remind me of tiny newly hatched turtles heading for the big ocean! Only a few survive.
Take your time and learn as much as you can on safe, solid ground.

Experience on top, current experience first. Education second. Leave out ALL fluff.
Recruiters don't need your life story. They need to know if you can do the job. If you want, put your current employer, then state "I have 20 years in the profession doing....." Keep it simple; keep it clean. If you want to go into more detail, do it during the interview. A HUGE red flag is to see that you've worked for 10 different companies, for months at a time. I know that someone who has worked for the same company for 2 years or more is going to have some degree of loyalty and will work through issues rather than cut and run.
I use EXText with my current job and I've used at a couple of other jobs I've had. I've ne
used DocQscribe, but I have used Meditech, Cerner, Vianeta, the Precyse platform (I can't remember the name), Dolbey, and Lanier platform I think was called Cequence (?).
Out of all the different platforms I have typed on, I have liked EXText the best. In my opinion, it's very user friendly, easy to learn, and I really like ESP which is the built in abbreviation expander. Plus it is very easy to create your own normals which I love. My fingers literally never leave the keyboard because there are macro keys for everything. You can use your mouse if you prefer or learn the function macros. I love it. I think I'm more productive on EXText than with any other platform.
How is one going to get experience, when no one will hire without experience????

If you're supposed to be paid a certain $/line, that's what you should be getting no matter how they do billing unless of course it's specified in YOUR contract with THEM.

I've seen the same every place I've done acute care, and
pointing out dangerous or repeated errors (often in normals for goodness sakes!) never got the result I expected. When I would press the issue, supervisors said if the dictators didn't complain, then the mistakes must not matter!
It didn't matter if the MT changed what had been a cardiac med in the beginning of the report to an antifungal by the end - I kid you NOT! One poor girl used facial for fascial and fascial for facial!

One thing I do to get around this, is to create a macro and then link the ShortHand command to the macro. It works for me, but I do the same five clients every day and only have about 20 or 30 macros/Shorthand commands that work like this. This may not work well for you if you have lots of formats and hundreds of docs.

I can tell what's a stutter, what's another word, what's just an "uh." Years of experience will get you through a lot.
Wouldn't want to do his charts all day, of course, but a few per day aren't bad. I haven't had to send his to review in a long time, but they do take a little longer to shuffle through.
I've worn contacts for 30 years. I've had both
hard and soft. My vision is much better with the soft ones than they were with the hard ones. When I first started trying contacts soft ones were still new and they couldn't get me to 20/20, so I went to hard. Hard were okay until my eyes started changing shape and then I could no longer wear hard ones. The soft should give you better vision as they conform more to the shape of your eye.

I used to sell a lot on eBay. There are some people who buy high-priced items and play games with you. I've had to call them repeatedly, report them to different agencies. It's not fun. You put time and money into the business of selling, and there are people out there who live to manipulate the system and cause trouble.
And, I've been bullied by buyers who made unreasonable demands, insist that they pay by check when you clearly state you don't accept them. It's not fun, and is one of the reasons I don't sell anymore. People!
I've also bought from some sellers who I would not deal with again because of their unprofessional attitude.
But, overall, ebay can be a great place to be.

I live alone, am 46, never married, no kids, just dogs horses and chickens and just got done building a new house out in the boonies away from the rat race. (Used to live in Manhattan) Couldn't be happier. Selfish maybe, but never out of time, never stressed, and I don't take anything out on others. There's something to be said for being alone but not lonely. I'm not looking for a man to "make me complete." They only sap me of my time, energy and money (how little of it there is with MQ). I consider myself lucky getting to choose my time with friends, and not just stuck with a deadbeat partner. Ladies especially: Be strong and allow yourself to be independent. Any old man will not make you stronger!

I'm on my 4th since July.
Tried Transolutions, what a joke. Told I would be on the windows system, ended up on the old DOS system with 40 pounds of manuals to look through. Had 3 accounts assigned at once and one of the team leaders was absolutely nasty.
Tried Precyse, had absolutely NO work whatsoever for 10 days and was supposed to be full time.
Tried Interpro, what a joke!!! They act like you are taking up precious time if you even ask a single question (like how to set up the stupid program they send you).
Tried a foreign company, the work I saw that they were sending to the hospitals was so bad I didn't want my name associated with any of it!
Been with eTransPlus now since August 8, so far so good. Wanted to go with Transcription Solutions but they don't do training on any shift but days and I'm a night person.
Still looking for a part-time job, but with 20+ years I'm NOT working for 6-7 cpl without spaces!
I saw in a newspaper last night that nursing assistants are making 15 an hour now and LPNs are making 25. I would make more doing something like that, but I can't. When I see phlegm, I turn a lovely green color..lol

I don't worry about it. I'm content being mateless. Whether we realize it or not, we're probably extending our lives this way---much less stress. No relationship drama.

other great things. I was going to buy this $319 Dell one, but if you spend $499 they waive the $100 shipping and handling fees. It's all there at their website....delldotcom.....and you customize whatever you want. I had forgotten that I needed a floppy drive and went right back to the website when I ordered that 'puter and added it on. I need a floppy drive to put private MDs work on diskettes so they can upload them to their systems.

On one of my personal computers where I had (as usual) TONS of AutoCorrects and AutoTexts stored every once in a while Word would freeze up or close down (I forget now which) and everything would be lost. So, I made sure to back up the normal.dot and the .acl (I haven't had to do this for a few years so I'm not sure I have that 100% correct) often so I could reinstall them. I also saved the documents I was working on every few minutes and made that easier by changing the F12 button to a "Save" button. One day I had a brilliant idea and went in to AutoCorrect Options and unchecked everything I could that was not important to me and it stopped happening! I only mention this in case someone else out there has this problem. 
But I have TONS and TONS of entries and I have never had one just disappear without some other reason for it other than I had too many in there.
Not only that, but lots of MTs get a little
if they have too many mistakes or blanks. So the insinuation that we would be so lazy as to just send in ALL blanks is pretty silly. If our payscale is tied to our quality, the last thing we want is to leave lots of blanks.

I don't know - I've been an MT over 25 years, am a super fast typist, use expanders, and have a great platform and accounts, and it takes me a good 5-6 hours, with a 15 minute stretch break here and there, to make 1000 lines. Bad dictators - a good 8 hour shift to make 1000.

There are lots of differences
Acute care is so much broader as far as need for knowledge of terminology in many different specialities. Clinic transcription can be of any specialty, but usually if you have a clinic account it will be limited to one or two specialties.
There are many different work types in acute care. Clinic work consists of mostly a history, physical exam, and plan. Acute care includes things such as operative notes, consultations, etc. which are "a whole different ballgame" as far as terminology.

but they are NOT the ones that are always applying to companies...they are not the ones that leave a client in the lurch or fit the description.
I have had a lot of really good ladies working for me for a LONG LONG time now and would do anything to keep them because a good Transcriptionist is so hard to find.
But there are those that give MTs a bad reputation just like in all professions.
Good MTs do not sit on these boards blasting people asking legit questions. Good MTs are the ones always answering the word boards, equipment boards, etc with kind and thoughtful answers. There are many of those...just wish I could find one or two more

but it all depends on which "office" they work for - Columbus=Happy/Amherst=Unhappy.
