I've had Hughesnet for over a year

First of all, it is expensive. $60 a month ($65 if want them to mail you a bill instead of having it taken directly from your checking account) You have to purchase the equipment, which can run $600-$700 installed. This dish weighs 75 lbs, so if you don't want all that weight on your roof, then it's an additional $125 to put it on a pole. If you do that, I suggest you have some PVC pipe available so the installer can run the line through that before burying the line from the pole to your house. Now, if you let the installer bury the line, he charges another $3.25 per foot for burying ( I just had him run it on the ground and I buried it myself with a shovel). There is rain fade-out and it fade or drop quicker with the internet dish than with your TV dish. Their customer service, in my book, stinks. The first customer service reps you have to go through cannot speak English and do not know that okay means yes. ( I help you Susan, yes? Okay. Yes? Okay. Yes? OKAY!!!!!) If you have problems and they get you up and running for even a second then everything is "Good". You have to keep calling and beg and beg and holler for advanced tech, where you get an English speaking person that knows what they're doing. But still, I have had to beg and beg with advanced tech to get a repairman out. And I don't know where you live, but the closest installer/repairman to Jacksonville, FL is in Georgia and if there is a nonwarranty problem then I have to pay $125 trip charge and it takes them a week to come out. Right now I have only intermittent internet service, which is not enough to work, after waiting 3 weeks for a repairman, he says the problem is a warranty part - but guess what? He doesn't have it so now it's another 1-2 week wait. I have been fighting with them since this thing was installed. I can't get cable, and DSL was supposed to be up and running here over a year ago - all the lines and boxes are in, we're just waiting for someone to 'flip the switch'. But, hey, when this thing is working, it is as fast as DSL. A girl I worked with has it and has never had a moment's problem.

Hughesnet
I did an archive of this, but did not get a really good answer to my question. I am considering satellite interneg, as that is the only high speed option where I live. I do not dial into a network, but download my dss files as e-mail attachments. I have Directv already and only lose service temporarily during heavy rain. If anyone is working with this already, how much faster than dial-up is it? I have an office where I have DSL 10 miles from here, but I would love to move everything totally from home.
Hughesnet is NOT down but beware
their customer service STINKS big-time. But, hey, if you live in the wilds like I do, with no cable or DSL - what choice do you have? Never heard of Wildblue - it must be a small starter company.
Anyone in the NE having Hughesnet problems?
Our service has gotten slower and slower recently and a lttle over 2 weeks ago it got to the point where I could run DocQscribe, but beyond that no search pages would load and IM wouldn't work. I called customer service and a tech from India tried a bunch of things including resetting our modem and by the time he was done, we couldn't even connect. The modem is not in my office and I specifically asked him if I should check it and he said no.
I called again in 2 days and talked to advanced support and he tried some things and then started wanting me to disconnect cables, etc, so I told him my husband would call back because all that is in his office. He called the next day and no one could figure it out, so they wanted to send a dish tech out to check the dish.
He came and said the dish was fine and when he looked at the modem he said it had been decommisioned and he got online and got it restarted, which we could have done over the phone if we had known, and the techs on the phone should have known it. And now they wonder why we have a problem with paying 125 bucks for the guy to come here.
We have been on the phone for hours trying to settle this. Billing won't take it off the bill without "documentation from tech support" and tech support in one breath will say that it was a phone techs fault and in the next breath say that they can't document it.
The whole system should not have been touched in the first place because it is a problem with the satellite we are aimed at, not a problem with our dish or modem and evidently we could be aimed at a functioning satellite, but no one is offering us that option.
Sorry to vent, I really just wondered if anyone else in this area is having a problem. I am in upstate NY near the VT border.
VR work & Hughesnet or WildBlue
I am looking into Hughesnet or Wildblue satellite to use with VR work. Does anyone use either for VR work and do they work well together? Thanks
if you've been at MQ for over a year and had no raise...(nm)
Wow! Sounds like you've been through a lot this year!!! sm
I can't imagine going through all of that......Yes, taking breaks, getting up and walking around does wonders for our body. What I like to do is get up for about 10-15 minutes per 3 reports. I try not to do more than 3 reports without getting up and walking around and I've bee doing this at home for almost 8 years and I have never had problems of back, neck, shoulders. I think that is why!
Even as an employee, I truly believe that MQ will be flexible with all of us. The minute they start taking away vacation times and not letting me off once in a while after I've consistently worked my schedule is the day I give my notice.
Nice talking with you both!
I've been using Vonage for a year.

About once a year I get burn-out, but I've always been able to
shake it off by taking a few days off, adjusting my schedule, etc. This time I just can't seem to do it. I absolutely have to work as I am the main support. The bills are still getting paid, but we need a new roof, new windows, furniture needs reupholstering. There just hasn't been much extra money lately to put away for these things. I need to be at home 6 more years and I couldn't get a job in an office making what I do now so I'm kind of stuck. I am exploring other avenues though that will allow me to still stay home and work, plus I'm selling things on E-bay to try to help compensate for my low line counts lately.
I've been knitting about a year. Keep buying
yarn, not enough time to knit. I'm trying to learn to crochet too. Doesn't look as nice as knitting usually, but I do lots of charity work and it goes much faster than knitting, easier to fix mistakes too.
I've been seriously thinking about it. I actually like my company this year.
However, I have no money because work is slow and my kids and bills come first. I've been thinking about baking cookies and candies to mail. The people I would like to give the gift to work at home anyway, so sending it to corporate HQ wouldn't accomplish gifting those I want to thank. I can't afford to send individual gifts to each of them. Plus, a little part of me considers buying things for your supervisor to be brown-nosing.
I've been wearing them for a year while I work with no....sm
problem. They aren't that strong.
I've been working just under a year and am on ER.. LOVE it!
nm
so far no one has posted they've made 100 grand a year. nm

I've been using Vista for over a year with no problems whatsoever. sm
I'm even running a very old HP printer.
If you use ShortHand with Vista, you must upgrade to SH 10, but SH 10 also works on XP.
Very busy - just did my total for the month. This is the best year I've had in my 25 years of MT!
No complaints whatsoever! Hope the rest of my fellow MTs experience a prosperous remainder of the year!
I've worn mine working for a year and haven't had a problem. .sm
I even still handle floppy disks all the time. The magnets aren't that strong.
I've used it as recent as a mont ago (for a year and a half total) with no problem.
In my exeprience, it has been MT friendly. I did have some start up issues because of Vista, but that was easily resolved if you get a cust. svc rep with a little knowledge. My issue was with getting word to run inside of the scribe program like it was supposed to. It kept opening outside of scribe. By Vista being so new to the platform, It was registry problem that needed some tweeking.
no - don't check out wildblue. check out hughesnet. sm
i was on wildblue. i absolutely HATED it. i paid $400 for install and equipment and bill was $51.51 a month for smallest plan. no bills, had to be direct debit from credit card or bank. wasn't a lot faster than dial up and i frequently went over my download limit so i had to upgrade to the $80/mo plan. speed was no faster on their "fastest plan". they had a 1-yr contract and only 1-yr warranty. well 20 days (kid you not) out of warranty my tria (the eye on the dish) went out and it cost me a total of $275 for replacement and tech call (had to wait a week and a half before tech could come and then he no showed and rescheduled for the next day stating he didn't have the equipment he needed to fix me and the repair order had been in for over a week by that time. no call to say he wasn't coming either, just no showed). they TRIED to sell me the entire package all over again to get me locked into another 1-yr contract and i declined. it was best in their book so your warranty and equipment would be "new". i had to tell them for 5 months to change which credit card to debit from, never could get it right. had to tell them for 3 months when my phone number changed. i could not wait until the day my 1-yr contract was over. have heard really good things about hughesnet. i think it is a tad more a month, but supposedly a lot faster than wildblue and not near as many problems from what i have heard from others. wildblue was down for an entire week at one point throughout the year i was on it. always got lost signals and page cannot be found multiple, multiple times throughout the day. i used wildblue with VPN (with transtech) and could not keep a connection enough to get a decent line count as i was dropping signals too much and it did slow it way down. i finally got clinic work rather than acute care where time and speed wasn't a factor. research message boards for complaints about wildblue and hughesnet before deciding. also hughesnet i think told me a 2-yr warranty rather than only the 1-yr with wildblue.
I use EXText with my current job and I've used at a couple of other jobs I've had. I've ne
used DocQscribe, but I have used Meditech, Cerner, Vianeta, the Precyse platform (I can't remember the name), Dolbey, and Lanier platform I think was called Cequence (?).
Out of all the different platforms I have typed on, I have liked EXText the best. In my opinion, it's very user friendly, easy to learn, and I really like ESP which is the built in abbreviation expander. Plus it is very easy to create your own normals which I love. My fingers literally never leave the keyboard because there are macro keys for everything. You can use your mouse if you prefer or learn the function macros. I love it. I think I'm more productive on EXText than with any other platform.
Union diesil mechanic - good pay, great benefits. We swap year to year on who brings home more sm
money.....but I am an IC and he has all the benefits...health insurance/dental that the company pays for, pension plan, 401k, etc. Factor all of that in and he makes way more than I do.
to cowgirl - Last I knew, last year the job paid $25,000/year no taxes, etc.
The hospital was bombed about a year ago, but not a lot of damage, very minimal damage.

Not only did I finally receive the proper training, but the woman on the advisory board hired and mentored me. I also joined the local AAMT and networked. Good luck. I know how frustrating it can be. A community college will have a good program to include medical language, MT courses taught by local MTSOs, business English, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, etc.
I think he makes $700,000.00 a year, and if they ask him to walk before his first year MQ has...sm
to pay him a cool 1 million dollars. You can check this out at the Medquist website. I think the CFO makes $350,000 a year, and the head of IT makes $250.000 a year.
P.S. This does not include the perks, like expense account, car allowance, sign-on bonus, etc.
Our 16 year old son has been working for a year now to pay for his truck.
He's learning how to sand and do body work and how the engine and transmission go together. My parents didn't buy cars for my siblings and I either. I had a 20+ year old beater car until I could afford to move up to a a newer one.
I see all the nice new cars parked in the high school parking lot every day. It's nice that so many disrespectful punk kids get handed something nicer to drive than what all the teachers drive. Oh, well. Honestly, I think most of them borrow Mommy or Daddy's car or are the child of a doctor who can afford to hand them everything.
Hopefully, my kids will take better care of their cars because they bought and built them on their own. You're not going to grow up to be responsible if you don't work hard for something and expect Mommy and Daddy to bail you out all the time.
Oh, my Dad lectured us on even allowing our child to have a vehicle because Dad didn't have one until after he had worked his way through college, lettered on the football team, got straight As, lettered on the baseball team, yadda yadda. He either walked or hitched a ride. Yeah, well, times were different back then, Daddy-O. LOL At least my kid has the opportunity to work and earn his own car.
IC - 30 hours week, $98K last year. So far this year - 28K. sm
Individual IC - own account(s).
Not me, owed last year, and expect to owe this year- sm
or break even, had more expenses this year. Only owed $200 but still don't want to owe at all. Need to start doing estimated tax payments again so I don't owe! Guess I will get off my butt and do that this year.

As you can already see, you've come to the wrong board! By using the word professional, you've
excluded about 99% of the population of "whatever" it is that hangs on these boards. Certainly not professional for sure! But you sure are doing a good thing for someone! Its the thought that counts. Sorry you met the dregs right at the start.
HELP! I've turned my screen sideways, I can't straighten it up. I know I've seen sm

I've always verified every line I've typed (I have my ways) -sm
If you're supposed to be paid a certain $/line, that's what you should be getting no matter how they do billing unless of course it's specified in YOUR contract with THEM.
BTW, I've never caught a company cheating me ever.

Got $$$$ back last year but this year
I have to pay them, sold a property I never lived in but I had enough sense to set aside $45,000 so just waiting on them to send me my WT2s so I can get started.
I've used it. It's the worst piece of crap I've ever seen.
seriously. I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy, or their Vianeta program. Awful, just awful.
Wait until you've been there six months and if you've improved
quality and quantity, I'd say go ahead and ask. Otherwise I'd say annually... good luck
I've seen the same every place I've done acute care, and
pointing out dangerous or repeated errors (often in normals for goodness sakes!) never got the result I expected. When I would press the issue, supervisors said if the dictators didn't complain, then the mistakes must not matter!
It didn't matter if the MT changed what had been a cardiac med in the beginning of the report to an antifungal by the end - I kid you NOT! One poor girl used facial for fascial and fascial for facial!
I've used a few expanders, and of those I've used, all must be "coded" to get things lik
One thing I do to get around this, is to create a macro and then link the ShortHand command to the macro. It works for me, but I do the same five clients every day and only have about 20 or 30 macros/Shorthand commands that work like this. This may not work well for you if you have lots of formats and hundreds of docs.
I've been doing this doc for many years, so I've learned how to function with him. sm
I can tell what's a stutter, what's another word, what's just an "uh." Years of experience will get you through a lot.
Wouldn't want to do his charts all day, of course, but a few per day aren't bad. I haven't had to send his to review in a long time, but they do take a little longer to shuffle through.
I've worn contacts for 30 years. I've had both
hard and soft. My vision is much better with the soft ones than they were with the hard ones. When I first started trying contacts soft ones were still new and they couldn't get me to 20/20, so I went to hard. Hard were okay until my eyes started changing shape and then I could no longer wear hard ones. The soft should give you better vision as they conform more to the shape of your eye.
I've been a bully; I've been bullied.
I used to sell a lot on eBay. There are some people who buy high-priced items and play games with you. I've had to call them repeatedly, report them to different agencies. It's not fun. You put time and money into the business of selling, and there are people out there who live to manipulate the system and cause trouble.
And, I've been bullied by buyers who made unreasonable demands, insist that they pay by check when you clearly state you don't accept them. It's not fun, and is one of the reasons I don't sell anymore. People!
I've also bought from some sellers who I would not deal with again because of their unprofessional attitude.
But, overall, ebay can be a great place to be.
I've become the man I've always wanted to marry.
I live alone, am 46, never married, no kids, just dogs horses and chickens and just got done building a new house out in the boonies away from the rat race. (Used to live in Manhattan) Couldn't be happier. Selfish maybe, but never out of time, never stressed, and I don't take anything out on others. There's something to be said for being alone but not lonely. I'm not looking for a man to "make me complete." They only sap me of my time, energy and money (how little of it there is with MQ). I consider myself lucky getting to choose my time with friends, and not just stuck with a deadbeat partner. Ladies especially: Be strong and allow yourself to be independent. Any old man will not make you stronger!
You know I've done the grilling...I've tried it all...
And I find the best way to cook steak is in a good quality thick-bottom nonstick pan on top of the stove. I found this trick on the internet. I heat the pan on high and when nice and hot, throw on the steak, no butter and no oil. It browns almost immediately, cooks fairly quickly, and seals in the juices - tender, moist and delicious!!!! It doesn't even need seasoning but salt and pepper before cooking. ;)
I've not only typed, them, I've had a few, myself! LOL

Ask me next year. sm
I quit as an IC telecommunting for a hospital where I was making $35,000 a year, and started for a national as an employee in April. So far, only made $4600 with them. Big OUCH! But just getting the hang of expanders and the 4 accounts I have.
Can't wait to see my end of year :(
less and less every year - sm
Used to be about $35,000, now is about $30,000
Can RAM die? I put in more RAM last year so I should have 768 -- but it says 256 now- sm
anyone have any ideas? I am positive after I put in the new card back in early 02/2005 it read 756. So if anyone had any insight or suggestions I'd appreciate it.....might explain why my computer has been a bit slow lately...we have also had a lot of power surges/outages lately, but I do have battery back up now (after it wiped my work out 2 x), maybe it got fried from that? TIA.
