I've done all work types also and always find myself making more

doing radiology than any other work type.
I think it's mainly because it's more repetitive than the other work types.
With your three years experience, you should do fine jumping back into it.
Good luck.

Does anyone know of any websites where I can find different types of x-ray views? TIA
Have a hospital I work for and they consistently change work types and do line counts. (sm)
Management just doesn't understand in order to crank out the work you need to be proficient by typing the same accounts. Go figure, they just don't get it ??
i used to work for a company that divided the work types up and i loved it. sm
there were only 4 of us working a major teaching hospital. someone was assigned surgery, different assigned discharges, different admits, etc. we all had the backup work type in case the original assignee wasn't available and were cross trained. it made us much more efficient, ability to get used to dictators, set macros, and in the long run we were all much happier.
Work types
Has anyone ever quit a position because you get work types you were assured you would not have to do? I absolutely despise discharge summaries and was told upon hire that I would not have to do them, there were plenty of other reports I could do, now I get big chunks of DS throughout the day, I never have liked them, I lose about 75-100 lines/hour doing them. Does anyone else have this problem? I am not a newbie, I just do not like discharges and get a real mental block, I think mainly because I get so tired of sitting while the dictator is trying to figure out what to say.
Work types
Yes, they all have to get done but I used to work for a company that you were given a certain work type all day long, and it either rotated or if there was one person who liked ds or op, they were routed to them - the work got done, the MT had more production, thus the company benefitted also, why take an MT who can do 300+ lines on everything but DS and put them on DS when you have people who do 150 on everything, including DS
work types
Most won't allow that.. Especially the ones that pay well. The one I work for requires you to be skilled in all ares, even radiology.. It is a great job.. Have them for 20 years and 10 years in the MT department working from home. Hospitals are the way to go.
Realistically with all work types
and various dictators, I average about 17.5 minutes per hour at the end of the day. But the first few hours I'm still working with my coffee buzz, so it is a little more, maye 22-25. I get a lot of 10-15 minute reports with a lot of dead air time, then will get a 2-minute report that is two pages long. I could never go by minutes unless it is the same thing over and over again.
Well, I have 25 years experience also in all work types
and only do acute care with a line rate of 10.5 cpl M-F and 11 cpl on the weekends.
You can negotiate it a little harder, and you will get it depending on their needs, I guess.
It is MDI-Maryland.
Not having standards hurts. Some work types just (sm)
don't add up line wise as quick as others. For me Ops are the best line count, consults and discharge summaries are killers.
all work types - 3000 lines a day @ 12 cpl 65 characters
18 cpl transcribed line - private hospital account. These are the only specifics I am willing to give.
Do not e-mail me and ask where or who - I will not reply!
I understand companies are paying 4 & 8 cpl edit/transcribed. I do not work for a company. I caught a hospital account using the platform at the right time and signed on quickly as an IC.
Hope this helps.
Poll: hardest and easiest work types. I enjoy...
orthopedics and psychiatry. Do not like cardiology, oncology.
Unproductive work types continually, for me, DS with ESLs and residents. nm

I'm making 10 cpl as an employee. I've been at this
20 years and started out at 6 cpl as an employee. I haven't had a raise in 5 years, though I think I'm going to get 1 cpl raise this year. I do acute care, can do any work type, ESLs that no one else can do, etc. The majority of the time I have no trouble making lines and if I stay on task I can do 350+ lph, so I can make good money.
Not too long ago I was looking for a new position and one company had the gall to offer me 6 cpl as an IC. The most I was offered was 11 cpl/65 characters as an IC.
I've tried to find this pic somewhere. It was awsome!
Didn't realize it was Clay until I looked at the FACE.
So where would I get one? I've looked everywhere and can't find it.nm

WHAT did you do? I've been waiting to find out!
I right clicked and dragged a file from my desktop into ExpressScribe but it played back very distorted. Just wondering if there was a better way to do it.
Just return the work, submit your bill, the scurry and find more work elsewhere. sm
They will never meet with you before next week. It is Thursday, already. Be prepared to sue for payment, because you will probably need to. But, most of all, find other work elsewhere, because I have a feeling this final payment will be a long time coming.
Is anyone making you work sm
on your days off? Are you an IC or employee trying to make up work.
If you have the choice, don't work on your days off. Some people have to work because their budget demands it.
To me its a simple thing, either you can afford not to make up the work for your paycheck or you can't. If you can't you will make it up any time you can and if you can afford to go without you will.
Problem with an MTSO is, when push comes to shove its the people who are willing to be flexible that are going to be asked to work or offered new accounts and not the ones who are not flexible. That is just the truth of the business. Put yourself in the MTSO place. If you had a new account or work, who would you ask to do this first? The employee who is willing to work whenever and be flexible or the one who is absolutely not going to be flexible or work any days off? Thats a pretty obvious answer.
I have found also that when a person is flexible, the employee is usually very flexible when the employee needs time off also!
1500-1600 doing acute, multiple, multiple work types. NM

So nobody's making you work there. I don't have that problem because SM
I work where that doesn't happen. So can you.
Now if they give you certain benefits that you don't want to give up, then you can decide to pay the price with your line count. But the bottom line is, it's nobody's choice but yours.
That was the point I was making to myself too, just work more (sm)
and pay for a house cleaner. That way, I don't have to do it, it is nicer than what I do anyway , and I don't have to fight with hubbie how unfair it is "I" end up doing it. Sounds like a win-win.
So about $60 bucks a week or every other week? That's about the price I've seen. However, I'm thinking that I may want to go with a bigger company anyway. I certainly don't want to lose any valuables.
If you don't want to work for 8 or 9 cpl, don't. But people know what they will be making when
:+
Hmm. I'm making 0.095/hr., but the work is tough
That's because the daily minimum # of lines required to maintain employment takes not 8 hours to complete, but more like 12-13 hours per day, 6 1/2 days per week.
making work more pleasant
I've got a small TV in my office that I keep the volume on low while I'm working. Not only do I have low noise in the background, when I feel especially isolated, I can see someone and not feel quite so bad.
I've yet to find the Scav Hunt entry (nm)

Hey how do you get any work done ROFL and LOL and LOL making QA grade
and all the busy little things you need to do? I think you are management and what happens on many jobs is managements fault. And many management decisions are REVERSED by protesting and that is what I am doing. You must have heard about unions haven't you? They exist to change situations for employees and create a fair playing field. You can go along with the plan or try to do something. I will try to do something. In the meantime, pick yourself up off the floor roley poley MT. I don't like the visual.

Yep, see what our work looks like without the benefit of an American MT making 3 cpl
to edit! All you MTs out there working for peanuts just so you can say you're an editor, realize you are making the Indians look good and taking away OUR paychecks!
Any tricks on making work more pleasant??
Hey guys:
Does anyone have any ideas or tricks to make work more pleasant?? Been doing this a long (too long) time, and the isolation is getting to me. Any ideas?
Thanks all.
People get killed EVERYDAY by making bad decisions. If you go to work
driving while you are intoxicated or sleepy you are more likely to get in an accident. Do you deserve it? I dunno. Maybe people should just use their brains and they would not become victims or killed. Your logic is flawed and you are comparing apples to oranges. How about this? If you wear skimpy clothes and get drunk and hang out with drunk people instead of dressing a little more modestly and keeping your mind sober, who is more likely to be raped? It is logical that consequences of your behavior will decide your fate.
You're lucky they work for you. I've never gotten a refill to work right, ever.

Can't find any work
I guess I need to start over as a newbie. Can anyone tell me the companies that hire new MTs? I have a lot of experience, but not acute care. Maybe, with my experience, I can start at the ground level at one of these companies that does not require experience with acute care. All the work at my company is gone, the docs editing their own reports now.
I don't get this. Why would somebody be obliged to find work SM
for other MTs because she has a good job?
"When they find out they have not work"?
And no question mark?
Wow...
Try to find an office you can work out of where other MTs can help you out!

I work 2nd not 3rd but I find taking a nap
just prior to start of shift makes a big difference is my staying power and alertness through the shift. I usually take a 30-minute _power_ nap. Yes, I keep the same schedule on my off days unless family members force me to get up early! Then I just take a longer nap during the day! My productivity has increased from 1100 lpd to 1800 to 2000 lpd since I switched shifts. No one else on the systems helps a lot!
Do you find there is more work at those times
and less stressful because of a good workflow?
I think you need to find a different line of work.
sure i was. i'm making fun of the people who are making a case for background checks, etc
to do medical transcription at home as if they may do something AWFUL with the info they receive. So if you want an invasion of privacy let's REALLY invade it and make sure fat chicks don't transcribe because they are so busy eating they can't get the work done, they mess up the keyboard with food and if they are provided health insurance they will raise the rates for the company sky high because their health risks are higher than others. Then there are the psychological issues overweight people bring to the table. After we eliminate fat people, we can go on to eliminate diabetic people who may have low blood sugar while typing and go into a spell and type the wrong thing. I could go on and on through the process of elimination. How about prescribed medications that may cloud your thinking? So you take Ambien to sleep but you have an Ambien groggy hangover when you are transcribing? Should they transcribe. How about your teens are on your last nerves and you take a Xanax? Should you be allowed to transcribe?
Don't work for a national. Find a small
MTSO that pays well. They are out there, as long as you hold up your end of the bargin. I left my hospital job to work for a national, several nationals now but who is counting. I found a small company and finally am making the $$$.
Good luck to you.
Can't find work...should I start a business?
I am about to finish up my certification at a local college and have been extremely disappointed to find that it seems no one is going to hire me to work for a company because I don't have 2+ years experience....even though I've spent the last 2 years transcribing school work....I am trying to decide if I'd just be better off to take what I've learned and try to start my own business. Financially, I am able to do it, but I'm just not sure how much of a headache it might be. What should I do? I kind of feel like I've wasted a lot of time and money. I'm pretty confident that I can do the work, but how can you prove that to someone who just wants to know if you have experience? I just don't know what to do.
How do you find a balance in this type of work...
with family, friends, hobbies, etc and still have time to type! Is it possible, if so, how?
Been trying to find steady MT work for 8 months now, at least
At first, no one would even respond. A few months ago I decided to take ANYTHING from anyone who actually did respond.
I'm used to getting paid 10 cents a line for the past 12 years, but when I did get a bite from a company, I took it, even at 7 cents and 8 cents because at that point I was STARVING and worried about making my house payments and paying my utility bills!
Now do you know what the problem is? All three frickin companies have very little to NO WORK available. This is consistent.
Now, at 7 and 8 cents a line and barely squeezing out any work between three DIFFERENT companies (even though they KNOW I am available to do any and all work they have), I am just about as bad off as I was before finding these jobs.
I know nothing else and have no college education, BUT I do know my job backwards and forwards, research skills, terminology, pharmacology, anatomy and physiology and everything else that goes with being a good, experienced MT.
Do you think I am getting paid for this experience? No. Times are bad right now, but they've been bad for me for many, many months. I just don't know what I'm going to do anymore. I rue the day I went to school for this godawful so-called profession.
Every day wake up, raring to go, hopeful there will be SOME kind of work available, at least to make $80 or $100 a day, AT LEAST.
But every day I end up stressing out, worrying, continuously being broken down because even though I'm a hard worker and a darn good MT, I am treated like low-class scum by my creditors because all my bills are late & I can't pick up the phone anymore due to bill collectors on my back. Believe me, I paid all my bills on time every time when the work was abundant and I WANT to pay my bills, but good intentions don't pay the bills. Neither does little to no work at a lame 7 or 8 cents a line.
I also have little food in the fridge or pantry, and things are beginning to be shut off left and right.
I don't know...
It's just extremely frustrating and stressful. I can't live like this anymore but have no way out.
How to find legitimate work as an independent contractor?
I work about 25 hours per week for a company, making 7.5 cpl. I'd like to try supplementing with some IC work to try to make more per line. How do you go about scouting out legitimate work?
Thanks...
Does anyone know where you find work transcribing talk shows, CNN, FOX, etc.?
I've been doing medical transcription for years and thought it might be a change of pace to try transcription of that type of work. Does anyone know of a company that transcribes that type of work?
Supposedly more dfficult to find work as coder, than as MT.
zz
So what do you do to keep motivated to type during the work day? Sometimes I find it so hard to...
stay focused. When you're working at home it is soooo easy to turn on the TV, take frequent breaks to answer the phone, talk to hubbie, play with the kids, take a hot bath, play solitaire on the PC, surf the net, post on a message board, etc.
I just wondered if anyone had any miracle cure for the wandering mind?
You can find different work gloves in Office Max, Best Buy, Staples,
s
I also live in Georgia - how did they find out you work from home?
NM
I am extremely curious as to what new hires do when they find out they have not work. Do they quit,
do they get transferred, what happens to them.
