and I'm not sure why. I don't know where people put their arms with no arm rests. Would that cause shoulder tiredness? I don't have an idea for a new one, but I sure need one!

I like a chair with arms, deep seat and high back (sm)
so I bought a leather chair from Costco about a year ago and have never regretted it. Think it is made by Lane. It was a little expensive but since I'm in it for hours a day - sometimes 12 - I figure it was an important investment... plus it is so good looking we often wheel into other parts of house when we need extra seating :)
With short arms, I need chair with shallow seat, good back support and high back. Want arm rests

Split keyboard mounted on chair arms versus split keyboard on desk
For longtime comfort which is best - split keyboard mounted on chair arms or split keyboard to be used on the desk?
Also, why the preference over split keyboards that come totally apart versus split keyboards that are permanently connected at the top?
I want to revamp my office and there are so many different options. 
I've got a leather Sealy Posturpedic chair that I got -(sm)-
at a local Office Depot store for not that much - maybe around +/- $200. It's adjustable 6 ways (height, back rest up/down/forward/back, seat forward/back tilt, and lumbar support adjustment. I spend sometimes 18 hours a day in this thing, and I'm never uncomfortable. Best $200 I ever spent!

I am a few years outdated, bought mine in 2002, but mine is still well supported and I like it :-) I paid a lot because I am very picky as to my sound quality, my whole music collection is on this thing. Think I paid about $100, though that may be the going rate anymore; I really don't know.
Creative is still pretty common, I think. That would be my vote, or go over to a review site like maybe CNet or something.
I would agree; I think most are on the motherboard at this point. I have a Gateway PC that I bought in 2005, and it's built in. I am not certain that going into system will tell you where something physically is per se. I only found out by opening up the computer.
CNet often has video tutorials too, so that may help you.
As for disabling a sound card that's on the motherboard, you're going to need to locate the jumpers and change their settings prior to installing a new card. I didn't change the jumpers before installing mine, and literally my PC wouldn't even turn on until I did that! Acted shorted out or something. Are you familiar with jumpers?

If you accepted a per line job as a medical transcriptionist, no offense, but you screwed yourself. NEVER accept ANY job that you do not want. If the employer hired you on a per hour basis and then changed everything about it at their will and it was not the same job as you had before, check it out. BUT, I think the employer has to give 30 days notice before making any kind of changes like that, if they are allowed at all. Actually, when I got screwed over by one of my employers, who was a huge hospital organization, to this day I feel like they basically screwed me out of $14,000 savings, because I had to use it to get me through. Not only that, but after the employment office told them that they HAD to pay me unemployment benefits, I had lawyers calling my house and sending me mail out the "whazoo." Of course, I never pursued it, because although it was heartbreaking after being there many years, I actually was glad to rid myself of them. My headaches decreased, miracously I had not one more issue with my internet, and looking back, I wished I would have quit their "sorry asses" years ago. Actually, I wish I would have taken another job in another field that I think of every now and then, when I had the chance. GET OUT of transcription. Being in transcription turned me into a real bit_h and for the last couple of years working at that place and knowing what I know and that I was being "taken for a ride," it just twisted me all up and my personality was a mess. I am so much better without them and only wish that sometime in the near future I can actually get out of healthcare altogether. Good luck

This is my all-time fave. You can do partial names also
and it will list all the doctors with the same names, and then you choose the appropriate one. I cut and paste the doc's name and addresses into letters. Super easy.

Are you able to rest your arms?
Maybe arm rests? They helped me for a while until I started getting carpal tunnel symptoms from not having my hands properly positioned (due to resting my elbows on my arm rests). Needless to say, got rid of the arm rests and after a while, the pain just went away (both in wrists/hands and shoulders/back). However, I do have quite severe knots if you ever feel my shoulders :)

Need some help. Weird stuff on my son's arms. sm
I'm wondering if anyone has seen this before. It's just too weird and I have worked for doctors (mostly general practice) for 20 years.
My son is 20 and he has these really weird looking discolorations on his left arm. They are flat, pink, scattered and in many different dimensions from the size of a pencil eraser to an actual small squares. They are not raised, don't itch or hurt, but they've just been appearing slowly and are now covering more areas of the arm.
He works in a kitchen at a nursing home, but the spots appeared before he got this job. The nursing home said he needs to have this checked out before he comes back to work on Tuesday (he has tomorrow off).
Rundown on his health history is that he is asthmatic (not enough to be on meds)and coughs a lot. Unfortunately, he is a very heavy smoker and I've been trying to get him to stop. He has cut down, because he's living at our house now and smoking is outside. He doesn't cough as much, but still coughs a lot.
He is 6 foot 4 inches and weighs 135 lbs. He eats constantly and never gains weight, but he's been like this since he was in grade school. He has a confirmed diagnosis of thalassemia and also has symptoms of what may be Marfan's Syndrome.
One last thing is that he had months of unprotected sex with a girl he was in love with until he found out that he wasn't the only one she was sleeping with, so he left her and moved back home for the time being.
Any ideas would be helpful.

I think you need to go to the doctor with your son in the morning -- mostly because you will understand more about what the doctor is saying (because you've been typing this stuff for so long), you'll be able to ask the right questions and be sure it's not passed off as dermatitis which it most certainly is not.

Joint Pain in Arms/Hands/Shoulders
I am just going to relate this story for what it is worth to someone else.
In 2001 I began having problems with my left hand, arm and shoulder. Orthopedist thought it may be the beginnings of carpal tunnel but EMG was neg. It was bad enuf that at times I couldn't pick stuff up and it hurt to type. It waned and waxed. A few years later I began having problems with my hands and the joints in my fingers hurting, along with left shoulder pain. My hands were so bad I could not open a jar at times. Eventually I went to a rheumatologist who told me that I had no visible signs of severe arthritis. All MDs, incl. orthopedist and rheumatologist recommended trying Celebrex, aspirin, etc. The regular stuff. I was resigned to early arthritis like my mother.
Well, one day in late 2004/early 2005 I decide to see a chiropractor for my shoulder because I'd had electro therapy for an injury years ago and thought maybe this would help. I had some adjustments and electro therapy on my shoulder.
I want to tell you -- ALL and EVERY pain in my fingers left and never came back. ALL and EVERY pain running from shoulder to hand stopped. It had to have been some sort of pinched nerve.
Not a single MD had even suggested seeing a chiropractor. And had it not been for my shoulder and my past experience, I never would have thought of it and would still be suffering, possibly with even further damage to the nerve by now.
I wedge a small pillow between me and the armrest on each side for my arms to rest on.

I use EXText with my current job and I've used at a couple of other jobs I've had. I've ne
used DocQscribe, but I have used Meditech, Cerner, Vianeta, the Precyse platform (I can't remember the name), Dolbey, and Lanier platform I think was called Cequence (?).
Out of all the different platforms I have typed on, I have liked EXText the best. In my opinion, it's very user friendly, easy to learn, and I really like ESP which is the built in abbreviation expander. Plus it is very easy to create your own normals which I love. My fingers literally never leave the keyboard because there are macro keys for everything. You can use your mouse if you prefer or learn the function macros. I love it. I think I'm more productive on EXText than with any other platform.
I need a new chair!
I have had this chair for about 8 years. I have to sit on pillows or else it feels like I am sitting on bare metal!  I am ready to buy a new one & would appreciate suggestions.

Herman Miller Aeron Chair, changed my LIFE!!!! Can't say enough good about it. The cost is high, but I felt I could justify it since I spend so much time sitting in it, check it out on ebay, lot cheaper, that is where I got mine.

When I was going to PT because of a MVA the theapist told me to allow the chair to support the back, not to sit like they used to make us sit straight and forward but sit back and allow the chair to support you. Also hold in your core muscles. Once I have done this as well as having a chair that I can easily change up and down positions, I have not had a problem. She said a pillow would not support the entire back and and thus put you off balance again and you then overcompensate for it. So I sit completely back in my chair with my entire back being supported by the chair. Also sit a little higher up. Works for me and never have a back ache. Also chair is not one of the most expensive models, $99 at Office Depot. Though I do need a new one as it is 6 years old. I work 8 to 10 hours per day in this chair.

Go to a site called "Nada Chair" it is not a chair but a device that pulls your spine forward by attaching a belt via a strap to your knees. My son is a PT and one of his patients swears by it. Just check it out. Been there, it's painful, every little bit helps, also ask for a TENS unit. Good luck! I empathize!

my sister visited a chiropracter in atlanta and was told of an office chair called herman miller but is pricey. She has one and loves it so far. it is the best one out there of late. visit CSN-chair.com they have different types, but they sound like a dream! Hi - I've had many various chairs over the past 10 years, and just found the perfect one for me for about $250.00.
It's the Unanimous model chair from the Hon company, part of their 7600 series -- specifically, the 7602 model is the best. It has a high back and adjustable everything -- seat depth, back height, arm width and height, etc...
I've spent lots of money on chairs and love this one!

I would try out some chairs at the office supply stores for good lumbar support. I also found that chairs with arm rests were very tiring as the arm rests got in the way of my elbows. I use a pillow to push me forward and also a Nada chair device. They have a website which explains how this work, pulls your spine forward by straps that go over your knees. It was a gift from a therapist. Works pretty well. Also, a microwaveable heating pad helps. Good luck, sometimes more than a chair is needed. It's painful, I know!

I have been working from home for many years, and over the years, I bought a new chair just about every 12 months, until this past year. I splurged and bought a Henry Miller Aeron chair, and it's wonderful. No more back pain, no more neck pain, no more shoulder pain. I wish I had saved all the money I spent on a chair every year and bought this one back then. They are expensive, but check online, you can find some good deals with free shipping, and sometimes no tax. The chair is well worth the investment if you can swing it. Hope this helps.

I bought the chair in the link below and it has been the BEST chair I have ever used. I have major back problems (we're talking 2 back surgeries in the last 3 years) and I can sit in this chair with no problems at all. It has multiple functions for lumbar support, back support, and the arms can go up and down/in and out. I highly recommend it! Also, if you live anywhere near an Office Depot store, shipping is free. The closest Office Depot store to me is like 75 miles away and they still delivered it for free.

I am very happy to share this information. My daughter graduated from college in May in interior design. She found this chair 2 yrs ago and after I took a week off and came back to my old chair and could not get out of it, I drove and bought this. Go to google. Allsteel chair, the one I got is #19. I spent a lot of money on it, but it is SO worth it, all my pain is GONE! You will have find a dealer near you. I live in upstate NY and drove 180 miles round trip to get it.

I went online and found the closest Herman Miller distributor (which happened to be Las Vegas for me) and drove there and picked it up. I have had a few people tell me they have seen them at Costco, but I am not sure if they are authorized distributors and if buying from them voids the warranty. Because it is such a big investment, my recommendation would be to buy from your closest authorized dealer (per the web site.) The shipping is what it is - but the main thing is to get your chair from a reputable dealer. -Dana
My dog sleeps right behind my chair..
She has been having a real hard time with the weather and is always itchy and has hot spots, so when she sleeps or relaxes, I just here until she gets up on her own. Seems like she has so few moments of peace this summer. Her coat looks awful.

I have one too and they are so worth it! My back used to kill me sitting for 10-12 hours a day. Now I never have that problem. I know they are expensive but if you can at all swing one, buy it! Think of it as an investment in your health.
KNEELING CHAIR (SM)
Has anyone used a kneeling chair? Are the comfortable? I would like to alternate between my regular chair and a kneeling chair to change positions during the day, but was not sure how comfortable they were.

I have used one of these for several years and used a foot pedal - it can be done. It's just not as ergo as it would be if you didnt have to use your foot. I do change from time-to-time, though to give my back a break and use a regular office chair, but I love my kneeling chair.
Love my HM chair!
Got to the point when I could hardly get out of the chair after 12 hours of working, went and ordered me a new Areon HM and love it to death! I have been using this chair for 3 years now, still love it. The arms are easy to remove if you like. I have mine set low so I can type but that they they are still there..it is all personal preference really, but my back is not sore after the long days like it used to be and I can sit forever without needed to get up due to feeling sore from sitting.
