I truly am very sorry for your losses and your pain. You are not alone there though....I lost my father last year and Father's Day is tough for me now, and my sister committed suicide moons ago but we, as family, never get over these things, not really. So we come into the web/forums/boards, etc....to perhaps ease our load/minds. Everyone has losses, no one has cornered the market on losses, that's a given. Again, I'm sorry if I offended, wasn't my intent. But I do not agree that asking a question as I did is *name-calling* - I'm totally against name-calling in the entire life. Being a year older than you should tell you that I truly was joking and again, sorry for the *hurt* you seemed to get from my post. I have since removed the *LOL* also.
Be well.....

Job losses
My job at a hospital was eliminated after 8 years. Even with living out in the sticks and in the hills, they were able to figure out things so I could work from home for 3 of those last years - a real blessing as I drove 50 miles each way every day. But then they decided to use the new modern technology and go with point and click and soon to be going VR, so my position was eliminated as my family practice notes and ER notes were going point and click. The psychiatric office was low on work, so they took that away from me and gave that to another girl there. I was the fifth out of 15 to leave and not being replaced. I expect they will get rid of about three more when VR goes into action and all they will have are the ones that cannot write or speak plain enough to understand. With living in the country in the hills and sticks, of course, we cannot get any kind of high speed here - obviously, there is no use even looking for another transcription job! So, now I have switched over and became a manager for a multinational company that works with Fortune 500 companies. Life is tough and this takes time to build up, but we are surviving! There is life after transcription!
You can't bank "self-esteem" and if she wants to cut her losses, give it up.
Besides that, you take this to any court, small claims for instance, they can award you the money, but the court does not collect it. It's up to you. So you lost time on the work. Then you lose time in small claims but woo-hoo you win. Then prepare to waste more time collecting the debt small claims said is owed you.
What is your time worth. Mine is worth about 25-30 dollars an hour. I don't have the time or money to devote to chasing down a bad debt. I LOSE AGAIN. Self-esteem? I have self-esteem with or without a company not paying me.
